    Large paid parking area
    Tiffany P.

I joined the Y a few months ago and have been checking out different locations across the city. Gym area: pretty decent, most equipment is old, but there's a good selection. Parking: There is a large paid parking lot. It's $2.50 per hour and you have to pay from 10am-5pm daily. The tap to pay part of the payment machine was either broken or not set up, so coins were still required. You also have the option to pay using the pay-by-phone app using a credit card.

@Mital @ymcapresidio: Pleeeez put some more weight benches in this gym It gets too crowded for a whole community to be sharing 5 benches Thanks

I visited the YMCA Presidio around a year ago. Today was my second time, and this was because the location I normally attend (Chinatown) is currently closed for a few days due to renovations. I was aware that today, being Labor Day, I had to make sure I knew their schedule. The website said "Holiday Hours September 2: 2pm", I was surprised right away, because it didn't specify anything about a different schedule for the pool; it was strange because for most YMCA's locations, pools tend to close 15-30 minutes earlier than the rest of the facilities. They have listed on the website the hours both for the pool and the gym; so since for Labor Day it only said 2 pm; I didn't think much of it. I had completely forgotten that the pool wasn't at the same address than the gym so I went to front desk at 1:00 pm and asked for directions, doing that plus walking to the actual pool took me around 15 minutes. Which was fine, because I had planned a 35 minute swim. As soon as I entered the pool's front desk I wasn't greeted, instead I was received with a "just letting you know, you'll be kicked out off the pool in 15 minutes". I was surprised and said "why?" to what she replied "well, because we're closing at 1:30 pm." She said this with the most condescending tone, and I told her that the website said that they were closing at 2 pm completely dismissing what I had just said, she repeated "just letting you know, we're closing in 15 minutes, you have plenty of time". Not sure in which world does 15 minutes is plenty, (let's also take off 5 minutes to properly change into swimming attire) unless that's all she can handle when swimming. I was really mad and ended up leaving, I didn't see the point of staying. I shouldn't be surprised that the staff at Presidio is rude and entitled. I went back and informed the staff at the gym's front desk, I told them that coming from the Chinatown facility, I'm more than aware that the pool always closes earlier than the rest of the facilities, but I decided to trust the website. I want to make clear that this isn't the main problem, set aside that it was a mistake from whoever posted on the website, I understand this can happen to anyone. What is not right, is the way I was "received" at the pool. She could have said the exact same message with a different delivery, on top of the commute I had to do, plus the fact I wouldn't be able to get a swim session; the last thing I needed was a rude and patronizing receptionist. Do better.

Folliculitis from Presidio YMCA hot tub or pool
    Kevin L.

Swam at the Presidio YMCA pool and used the hot tub. A day later I developed red bumps on my back... initially thought it was bed bugs but realized it was from the pool/hot tub after the bumps kept growing (I was continuing to swim) and we found no signs of bugs at home (and no one else in our household had it). Fair warning to be careful of hygiene at this location.

    Fantastic cardio and machine room
    John S.

The Presidio Community YMCA is a fantastic asset to the Presidio community. The staff here are amazingly helpful. The strength training area is easy to use and not overly-testosteroned so you can stay comfortable lifting lower weight. They have a huge number of cardio machines of every variety. You never have to wait for a machine if you go any other time than after work. This YMCA also features tennis courts! Bring your racket. In fact, they have four different tennis courts called the Fort Scott Courts, the Infantry Terrace Courts, the Bowling Alley Courts, and the Ruger Courts. Ask at the front desk and they will show you where they are. This facility also features a large child care center. Bring the kiddos!

Front of the YMCA , comes with a nice covered seating area

Its nice to be able to go to the Gym, and know that the space is Clean, that the Machines Work, that a Fresh Towel is waiting, that the Facility is being Well Kept, and that its not crammed with people every hour its open. 1st. Parking is Pay 10am - 5pm, at $1.20 per hour or $7- for the Day ,, That might seem annoying, BUT it also means the Gym does not get huge crowds during the Day. If you can suck up the fee it will result in gym equipment that is easy to access. 2nd, The staff is friendly, but not obtrusive, and with 3 Areas to Work Out, a nice mix of Aerobic Machines, a Large Basketball Court, and 2 Spaces for Classes most members will find their needs fulfilled within the main building. There are many more things via this YMCA, such as the Nearby Pool, a Variety of Classes, and even a nice place outside to leave your dog. For me its a civilized Gym option.

The Presidio YMCA is a pretty laid low facility and it's an understatement to say it has great amenities and a positive community behind it.

Ask the Community - Presidio Community YMCA

    Is there free parking nearby?

All parking in the Presidio requires payment, no free two hour parking either. In the past, they generally did not enforce parking in the lot in front of the YMCA, however, that has changed and they are ticketing cars ($30) in the lot now. Parking…

Are there a lot of free weights & things like squat racks, benches, etc?

Are there swim lessons provided for adults?

Hello Maria! Yes, Presidio has one adult swim lesson class, it currently looks full, but they can check the community portal programs for any aquatic classes. You don't have to be a member to look up our classes…

Do they offer towel service? Also do you need to bring your own lock for the lockers?

Hi Albert. We do offer towel service, we also recommend our members bring a lock! Thank you for your interest in Presidio YMCA!

The reason i rate this three stars is the multiple rude female trainers who will hog equipment for their clients (eg both sides of the cable machine when they can switch out attachments on the SAME cable between sets), not let you switch in, and can often be heard talking snark about random other people. Not to mention the ones hustling for new biz who will offer unsolicited "advice" which is either plain wrong or simply annoying. Staff are a big component to how a space feels. There used to be an amazing trainer couple - both of whom brought warm, helpful energy. They are gone and there is a lot of trainer turnover constantly. There are at least three female trainers who are unpleasant should you need to use a station in proximity. None of them even look fit or healthy which is the ultimate testament to whether you should take strength or fitness advice from someone.

These pods are probably around 12ftx12ft in size and include a squat rack, bench, and weights - really everything you need to have a great strength training workout. No sharing necessary! Even though the membership costs over $100 per month, and I knew I would only be able to use it a few times each month due to my schedule, I decided it was still worth joining so I could swim. Overall, I would rate the facility about 2.5 out of 5 stars. The staff does make an effort to keep the gym clean, but because it gets so busy, some areas can still be messy at times. The main reason I joined was for the swimming pool. Unfortunately, I found that the pool is almost always crowded. I tried visiting on different days and at different times, but most of the time all the lanes were occupied. Occasionally I could swim right away, but more often I had to wait anywhere from 5 to 20 minutes before a lane became available. However, the biggest reason I'm giving this gym only 2 stars has nothing to do with the pool--it's because of security and parking. My primary transportation is an electric scooter. I initially tried driving and parking in the garage, but I repeatedly experienced problems with the parking gate. On several occasions it took me 10-15 minutes just to leave because the security gate malfunctioned and someone from the Fillmore Center had to come reset it. It was frustrating, especially when I was in a hurry. Because of that, I started riding my electric scooter instead. I used it only three times. On my third visit, I locked my brand-new scooter with a $60 security lock to the bike rack directly in front of the main entrance, where people are constantly walking in and out. After my swim, I came back and my scooter was gone. I immediately reported the theft to the front desk. They told me they were not responsible and that I needed to contact Fillmore Center Security. When I contacted them, they said they first needed a police report before they could assist me. I went to the police station, filed a report, and returned with the paperwork. I then asked what they could do to help. They said they would review the security camera footage to try to identify the person who stole my scooter. Since it happened right at the main entrance, I believed the cameras would clearly capture the incident. I was then told to come back the next day to speak with the security manager, Sean. Unfortunately, he wasn't available. After several unsuccessful attempts, I finally obtained his direct phone number from the security department. I texted Sean multiple times explaining that my insurance company could not process my claim without the surveillance footage. He repeatedly told me he would send the footage to my insurance company. Days turned into weeks, and weeks turned into months. Despite his assurances, my insurance company never received anything. Eventually, my messages went unanswered. This was extremely disappointing because obtaining the footage should have been straightforward if the security cameras were functioning properly. Without that evidence, I couldn't complete my insurance claim for my stolen scooter. At that point, I decided to cancel my membership. Because of my busy schedule, my scooter is my primary way of getting to the gym. If I don't feel confident that it will be safe--or that I'll receive meaningful assistance if something happens--it's simply not worth the risk. After reading other online reviews, I realized I wasn't the only person who had experienced security-related issues at this location. That was even more discouraging. I'm not writing this review to discourage everyone from joining SF Fitness. If you walk to the gym or have another reliable way to get there, you may have a completely different experience. My purpose is simply to warn those who rely on electric scooters or bicycles as their primary transportation. Be aware of the potential risks, and understand that if your property is stolen, you may find it difficult to get the assistance or documentation needed afterward. I genuinely hope my experience helps others make an informed decision before joining.

She reminds the kids what they need to work on and gives super detailed feedback to perfect their lesson! We love her! Dash also had the pleasure of learning with teacher Jennifer on weekends and she is exactly like Veronica too! Same enthusiasm! Also, also very friendly and firm about the lessons! Great feedback to help him move to the next level! Finally my son is in his final level of journey with La Petite and we are so honored to be working with teacher Mina! My daughter is also at La Petite and started her journey this year. Her favorite teacher is Amanda! My daughter is not as brave as my son so she was very specific with only taking lessons with Amanda. The bond between the two is amazing. Now she's been teaching her from 3-4 years old and the results have been amazing. Our daughter started out afraid to get in the pool without us. Now she can swim 15-20 feet without fins or any help from Toni. Toni explains at our daughter's level (and then repeats to us at our level). Toni pushes our daughter to swim longer distances and encourages the hard work and effort needed to be a great swimmer. Thank you so much teacher Toni!
