What a fantastic place! We arrived and were told the kitchen was shutting down and we could have meats and cheeses which was fine with us. Total shout out to the Yelpers for reviewing this place. I honestly would have never known about it if it wasn't for the reviews. It's kind of behind the main township of Tanunda, and is not obvious. There is no signage pointing until you are very close, unlike other cellar doors. The Artisans of the Barossa restaurant / cellar door has such a lovely set up. The building is big and open. They have installed large foldback glass doors, so it opens the area so you can enjoy the view outside. I also imagine that in winter it would still provide a great barrier for the cold outside, while framing the view. So, you get the best of both worlds inside and out. When you arrive at this restaurant, be sure to report to the counter to be seated. When I arrived I asked whether we could find a table. I was very abruptly interrupted and told that I would need a reservation. The gentleman that I think ran the restaurant was quite precious about the seating. So, lucky I asked. No need for that attitude though, I didn't just sit down. I did ask. Anyway... The Artisans of Barossa is a fine collection of boutique wineries & food sourced from local produce. The menu is impressive, and seems seasonal. We wanted some shared plates and went for the Fried Chicken, Jamon and Beetroot skordalia. The fried chicken was really tasty. It has been marinated for a while, so it had a darker colour. But, it was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Perfect! I could see that it was a popular dish as well. Many orders were running past me. Next up the Jamon. Well, you know when you have a great quality Jamon. It was sliced thin, but not too thin. It was sweet, not too fatty and was nicely preserved. A nice accompaniment with the pickles and artichoke. Finally, the Beetroot skordalia. It was very fresh and earthy. Served with crumbled feta and (wait for it) beetroot chips. Oh yes, what a fab idea. It gave it that crunch and body that worked so well. It really lifted the dish. If you go to the Barossa, be sure to visit here. You would be silly not to. There is something special about this place. Might be worth booking ahead though. Otherwise, just be polite to the Restaurant Manager. read more

Our last visit here came when they had just opened and they were still finding their feet a bit, but happy to say Artisans has come leaps and bounds since. They are a tasting room for 6 wineries, giving you a huge tasting range if just here for a bit of fun with something for everyone, and the serving staff were happy and friendly, really seemed to enjoy their jobs. We decided to stay for food, getting a great spot on the patio. The dishes are made to share, so dining with a small group is the best way to taste your way around the modest sized menu. Everything comes as a small serve but each was truly excellent - their food game is A+. The only dish I wouldn't get again is the salmon - small serve doesn't quite justify the cost there, but it was still lovely. There's beautiful picnic grounds around, and bocce and cricket for the kids, or kids at heart, making Artisans a perfect place to come to taste, eat, and play away the day. read more

Tasting room for 6 wineries and great glass-lined and modern restaurant with a view. Dishes were perfect for sharing. The hummus was among our favorites, with a great, not too creamy texture and a good level of lemon. The croquettas were divine. Don't hesitate. Just order them! The meat in the empanadas was a bit dry, and the dough was not of correct kind for this classic snack. The sauce/relish was a great match. The chicken was super nice and crispy and not fatty at all. Not a succulent piece of meat but the sauce was very nice. The goat was well prepared and delicious. Beautiful combo of flavors with pomegranate, and Greek yoghurt, a.o. The two desserts we tried were both excellent. In summary: lovely venue. A great option for lunch when in the Barossa. read more

Word of mouth - a funny phenomenon. Like the innocent spark from what could be a roaring fire, landing on a veritable tinderbox ready to be ignited to something fierce. That is how I would describe hearing about Artisans of Barossa (AoB). The concept behind AoB, from what I could grasp from the brief comments from the waiter, is that this place is run by the local food/wine makers of the Barossa. As they describe themselves on their glassware, Artisans of Barosssa are 'the keepers of the future' (quite romantic, n'est ce pas!'!) The lovely ladies at Langmeil winery recommended this place as a great place to grab a bite during our wine tasting day. From the moment we stepped in the door to the moment we left, the individual attention was spot-on. We were admittedly a little perplexed when we first spied the food menu - it reads a little like an encyclopaedia for exotic nibbles. So we went for the easy option - feed me like a Barossan - $45 a head. If everyone in the BV ate like this every day, they'd be a much fatter bunch of people! We were stuffed! It is a much more modern looking building than that which we had seen during the day, but it still had all of the charm and quality of that expected from a world class food and wine region. The crowd eating in was decent but not so large that we couldn't get a seat (as per the sage advice from the Langmeil ladies!) To eat like a Barossan: According to the staff at AoB, this means eating large amounts of delicious bites and drink top quality small batch wines until you're about to explode - and then eat some really decadent desserts! I will just say this - all of the food was amazing! And the service was spot on! We didn't wait too long at all between each serving. These guys have got the serving formula down like clockwork. Nice little winery. There are a few bags and jewelry on sale here. We'd had so much Barossa wine already that this was of coffee/water stop. They have a full coffee bar, which was nice and we hadn't seen that at other wineries. We sat on the big deck looking over the vineyards. Staff was ace. read more

Great food. Had lunch, and a tasting and what a great experience. Excellent service, and as a plus we met John Duval, owner of his own winery from the same name, but was Penfolds winemaker in the past. This is a great find, have some lunch, taste some of Barossa best vino, and ship a case home! Our guide Ben turned us into the place from Barossa Lite Cabs, wonderful group of people. This is a great place with a beautiful range of wines and food to tempt any taste bud. The staff are wonderful and friendly, showcasing a vast array of knowledge of their craft. Also, for those wondering, artisan does not mean 'artist' as in paintings, etc, as some others have commented. Brilliant location and a clever idea. 7 winemakers and a chef get together to create a wine bar with a difference. When I went Gregg Hobbs (winemaker of Hobbs of Barossa) was roistered on for a shift at the cellar door. It was great talking to him about his wines, but he was just as knowledgable of the other 6 brands. I arrived at 5pm with the sun setting at 545 on a deck you could hardly beat. Artisans represents a number of smaller local wineries, providing "cellar door" tastings for a huge range of locally made wines of various styles. Additionally there is an attached restaurant that we unfortunately did no eat in but the menu looked very tasty and interesting and we definitely wish that we had. All the wineries would be considered to be premium so don't expect to pick up any cheaper wines. Having said that there was no pressure to buy anything, probably because they know that the wines they serve are so good that it is difficult to walk out with nothing! The staff were absolutely fantastic, really enthusiastic and keen to not only take you through the styles hat you know you like but assist in expanding your appreciation of other styles by suggesting those which they (correctly 90% of the time!) believe will suit your palate. read more

This venue is great, has a really nice outlook into the vineyard and lovely staff. In terms of wines they've got a whole bunch of different labels who seem to have chosen this venue as a way to not have to have a separate tasting area for each label - certainly its a cheaper option for vineyards. Nice food but a bit overpriced to be honest. A few pieces of crispy chicken was 26 bucks! Go for the sliders...they look awesome and are cheaper. Having said that, the pumpkin, halloumi & pesto and the falafel were so yummy and were decently priced. As for the wine tasting...it's kind of a bar atmosphere, not as authentic as most of the other tastings around the Barossa. read more

Wow!! That is all I can say. This was by far our best food experience in all of Australia. It was amazing. I believe the best way to dine is to choose the "Feed me like a Barossan". You get more food than you can eat. Beautiful views and great staff. Highly recommended. read more

We were recommended this place by several friends who had great reviews however, our experience wasn't as good as what we were expecting. The food quality was average for the price we paid, and we it took a long time for the food to arrive. The service was below standard considering of quality restaurant. Had to ask to be seated. The staff were rude and dismissive, like we were an annoyance even entering the premises. I had to ask for a menu and was rudely asked if I had been seated, implying I had just sat down myself. I also had to flag down someone to get me a menu and take my order. This place is super disorganized and seems to have trouble coping with all the tables. There was no order to how to get a table and i would recommend reserving so can make sure you get a table. A couple of the dishes are nice and there is a nice view that I think makes people overlook the bad service. read more
