They actually have alumni come back and teach and bring their children to take dance. I can't express how this studio, Meg and all her teachers made this a Safe place for my girls from the age of 2 till now! All their shows are like going to a Broadway show, excellent choreography and music choices, even the dads love the shows! Heck, a few years the dads actually performed in the show!! It was the Best! During the COVID pandemic Meg ran the studio as best she could and did an incredible job keeping her students, teachers and families safe. She kept in touch with the health department as recommendations changed, did an outdoor show for a few years so the dancers could still perform, as schools were not allowing performances indoors. The dancers work all year for the big performance and Meg made sure to think outside the box and make sure they got to have their big performance for family and friends. It was actually fun to bring a picnic, blanket and chairs and watch the performances outside for a change. If you haven't seen one of Nutmeg's recitals indoors, get there this year, they really are professional and the dancers work so hard and are amazing! It is like a night out watching a Broadway show! I can't say enough good things about this studio and all the teachers and what a huge impact they had on all four of my children growing up, my two daughters and even my two sons both danced there a few years for boys hip hop and partnering! At this time I've never taken hip hop lessons before, but was really excited to try them. But when I got in, I felt unwelcomed from the start. I'm the type of person who can usually break into any social situation well, even if I don't know anyone. But in this case, everyone seemed so closed off.. including my dance teacher, Brendon. He was so uninterested in getting to know me. He'd always let us ask questions, but whenever I asked or didn't get something, I was ignored. I felt like he didn't care whether or not I fell through the cracks. The only good thing about this class was that Brendon played dope music, but that was it. The other two girls in my class totally ignored me. I'm sure they weren't trying to be mean, since it seemed like they knew each other. But it was just uncomfortable and made the classes unpleasant. This is a great place if you've been here for years and you get tons of attention. But if you're new, good luck!

The food was delicious, and our server was Jessica. She was a joy. Smiley, upbeat, funny and gave the most wonderfully animated recommendations of the menu... a true asset to the establishment. We returned the last two times with other family members, hoping to have Jessica serve us and show them a great experience, only to be disappointed to find out she was no longer employed there. Our experience with the other servers was mediocre at best. Slow service, bland personalities and couldn't be found 90% of the time. Please bring Jessica back so that we can come back knowing we'll have another great experience and feel like we're more than just a "tip".

Their emphasis is on emerging artists, independent musicians, and other non-mainstream creative types. A lot of local scenes have coalesced around this place. Admission is kept low making all events affordable for the local community. The venue is supported by door donations, fundraising, and grants. Periodically Flywheel puts on large scale shows featuring acts like Fugazi and Le Tigre. Flywheel is currently on hiatus due to the renovations being performed on their relocation space in the former town hall. Their previous site featured a cafe, zine library, art gallery, and performance space. Local scenester tip: Don't call it "The Flywheel". I look forward to visiting them in their new incarnation!

Like the old space, Flywheel still puts on live music, art exhibits, film & video screenings, children's events, dance parties, record fairs poetry and spoken word, performance art pieces, and more. The cozy cafe area shares its space with the zine library, and leads out to the performance space. Flywheel has recently been the venue for Ladyfest and benefit shows for Pioneer Valley's Zine fest, and looks forward to showcasing more local bands. It's all volunteer-run, and people are free to donate some time to help out, either with shows or at "work parties" (like the bi-weekly party for cataloguing zines) as much or as little as they can.

We spent a very nice hour and a half strolling the grounds of the Storrowton Village Museum today…read more It's not a museum in the traditional sense, but rather a reconstructed village of 18th and 19th century buildings from Massachusetts and New Hampshire plopped down around a traditional town green. It reminded me a lot of what I remember seeing in Colonial Williamsburg or Old Sturbridge Village. The green has a big gazebo, and we saw a family taking graduation pictures there. The gazebo is also a popular location for wedding photos. It's located on the grounds of Eastern States Exposition, sort of on the fringe of the Big E. The buildings around the town green have an interesting history- they were all purchased, disassembled, transported, and then rebuilt on site. A sign in front of each building has a QR code so you can read up on its history. Here are some of the buildings we saw - Phillips House - Built in 1767 in Taunton, Massachusetts with hand-hewn oak sills and beams, hand-forged nails, and hand-shaped bricks. This is the village's administrative office and gift shop. Union Meeting House - Built in 1834 in Salisbury, New Hampshire. Religious services were held here, so you'll see pews of unpainted pine, a choir gallery, and a white paneled pulpit. A gorgeous steeple with a clock and bell were added during the rebuild. The building can be rented out for weddings. North Center School - Built around 1810 in Whately Massachusetts as a one room schoolhouse. The brick building has blackboards on all four walls. The museum hosts quite a bit of their educational youth programs here. Clark Blacksmith Shop - Built out of granite around 1850 in Chesterfield, New Hampshire. It was deconstructed stone by stone for its move to Massachusetts. Today it serves as a classroom for a blacksmith program and is a popular tourist attraction during the Big E where folks can see the blacksmiths put their forge and bellows in action. Potter Mansion -You'd expect any building named a mansion to be impressive, but before I get to describing the building, let me say or word or two abut the gent who lived there. Captain John Potter was an officer in the Revolutionary War and he built the house for his fifteen children from two wives. Now THAT'S impressive. The mansion was built in 1776 in North Brookfield, Massachusetts, and construction lasted ten years. You'll see all sorts of ornamental woodworking, a parlor, a dining room, and a kitchen with an oversized hearth, brick bake oven, and pine cabinetry. Gilbert Farmstead - Quiz time! Ever hear of anyone with the first name of "Peletiah"? Yeah, I thought not. Anyway, Pell Gilbert and his brother Levi built the farmhouse in 1794 in West Brookfield, Massachusetts. It has some very interesting construction features, like hand-hewn timbers, wrought iron hardware and nails, wide wood plank floorboards, a granite sink, raised panel trim, and a scalloped corner cabinet in the parlor. Eddy Law Office- Built in 1810 in Middleboro, Massachusetts. It's a small professional office building typical of the style of the day -one or two rooms. The building has a distinctive curved roof. The Tavern - Built around 1789 in Prescott, Massachusetts and originally known as the Atkinson Tavern. Here's a cool piece of trivia about Prescott - it doesn't exist today! Prescott and three neighboring towns were claimed by the Commonwealth of MA to be flooded and became the Quabbin Reservoir. In its hay day, the tavern hosted dances and town meetings upstairs and a store and taproom downstairs. Today, the building is the home of the Storrowton Tavern and traditional New England. If you go there for dinner, check out the granite hitching posts outside. The museum offers a heaping portion of history, education, photo ops, and plain old coolness.
