We have tried several different approaches using drapes and valences and never found anything that we liked. We called Theresa and she came out the next week. She gave us a few options and her recommendations. Based on her recommendations, we decided on a material, color and style of drapes. The new drapes arrived last week and they are beautiful and perfect. Paul did the measuring and installation and he is an artist and perfectionist. The room looks great. If we ever need window treatments again we will be calling Theresa.

She helped us pick out new furniture then and when we moved this year, she helped us too. She measures and picked out shades for the whole house. She helped us arrange our old furniture and helped pick out new pieces to fill in the spaces. She is extremely easy to work with. Friendly, professional, on-time, and extremely talented at design! I'd be remiss if I didn't mention her shade installer (and picture hanger) Paul. He's the best. He can hang a huge clock on a wall above the stairs to making 3 heavy prints align even when their hangers aren't even. He's amazing!

HOWEVER we had our kitchen done last summer and we were told it was going to be a 3 day install. We all can suck it up for 3 days right? We did the gutting out and floor tiling prior to them starting the install. There was a 1 man install crew for 2 weeks then the 3rd week a 2 man crew showed up (only after we began to complain about the time it was taking and the limited progress daily). It took 3 weeks to get 9 top cabinets in and 9 bottom cabinets in. We had to take time off work to be home during this time and when we were unable to be home, make arrangements for others to be here. (I should note that the contractor acknowledged and validated the extensive install however Joy didn't see this as a problem because the countertop couldn't have been installed for that time period anyway......ummmm but we could have got the appliances put in allowing us to cook and not have a living room full of dishes, tupperware, food etc! not cool) My husband called and went in to verify how to cut the area for the pantry, I will add he is skilled at this kind of work. He was given specific instructions and cut it accordingly however when the cabinets came they didn't fit and Joy indicated "that is what happens when homeowners do things on their own". No! Either the directions were wrong or the cabinets were inaccurately ordered. Either way.... the trim didn't flow with the rest of the kitchen. When we pointed this out to Joy she didn't see the flaw (although everyone that saw it agreed it didn't flow). We have since made alterations to it on our own to make it flow and it looks great now. Ultimately we love our new kitchen and would not likely use Kitchens by Design again based on our experience.

I initially had a great experience with Jaime Langer and genuinely believe she has strong design…read moreskills. However, my overall experience with her ended in deep disappointment and frustration. If you choose to work with her, do not let her refer you to Hummingbird HRD (Crystal and Brian Mansanares), as that is where everything unraveled. Jaime first helped me after a Christmas morning plumbing disaster, and at the outset, she was fantastic--quick to respond, knowledgeable, and actively engaged in creating thoughtful layouts. Because things seemed to be going well, we also hired her for additional design work in our kitchen and living room. But when she referred us to Hummingbird as the general contractor, she stepped away entirely, leaving us in the hands of an inexperienced team that led to an overpriced, incomplete, and poorly executed renovation. Where Things Went Wrong Jaime and Crystal turned out to be personal friends rather than longtime collaborators, and our home was essentially a "guinea pig project"--a fact Jaime admitted only after things had gone terribly wrong. The staggering lack of professionalism from Hummingbird resulted in months of stress, wasted money, and a home that remains unfinished to this day. After Crystal declared the project "done" (despite glaringly poor workmanship), I asked Jaime to see the state of things herself. She agreed with me that the quality was unacceptable and even apologized for how badly things had turned out. She admitted that Crystal lacked the necessary experience and recognized that we had been unintentionally used as a test project. To make matters worse, she also told me, "Wow, I didn't realize you were so detail-oriented--I would feel exactly the same." As if they thought they could get away with subpar work and I wouldn't notice--truly insulting. Jaime's Final Disappointing Choice To her credit, Jaime convinced Crystal and Brian to attempt to fix their mess, but she ultimately abandoned the project. Despite personally acknowledging all the flaws, she later sent me a completely contradictory statement: "I have every faith in Hummingbird completing the project as promised, and overall, I believe they have done an exceptional job." This project was supposed to take 4-6 weeks starting in March--it was still dragging on in November, at which point I cut ties entirely because it was no longer worth the emotional toll. To this day, our home remains unfinished and cheap-looking, a painful reminder of the stress and financial loss we endured. What We Actually Got for Jaime's Fees After paying her design fees for both the bathroom and kitchen/living room, all we truly received was: * Layout options * A recommendation for Hummingbird (which proved disastrous) * Help selecting a kitchen table and rug Had we gone with a different general contractor, I might be writing a glowing five-star review. Unfortunately, given how this played out, I cannot recommend Jaime Langer at all.
