It's an extension of the Shoreline trail with a switchback trail and a rock climb. Large flat, very stable rocks that you can climb...there are steps....but also a variety of ways to get from the bottom to the top. Nicely landscaped with beautiful views this area is a new addition to the hiking available at Artpark along the Niagara gorge.

I found this place after doing a little bit of research, and I was not disappointed. The trail is a bit bumpy, unpaved, and difficult to go through. I personally love good trails and hikes, so it doesn't bother me. But i'll recommend wearing good running shoes with strong grip. As you're going through the trail, take it slow and easy so you don't slip on any unstable wood or rocks. You first go down a large staircase from the area I went through, then a 15 minute path. Once we reached the water, I was in awe. The water is bright blue, clean, the trees are as green as they can get, and the breeze is beautiful. The wind was blowing, which was refreshing after a sweaty trail walk. The views were unbelievable, including falls further away. I couldn't even believe it was in the Niagara area. If you're looking for a short trail and stunning views that transport you out of the city, this is the place to visit!! I will definitely be back and try different pathways :)

The boardwalk isn't too long but there's enough room for all the visitors who come by. Purchase tickets at the counter or online, and then take the elevator down. You enter and exit the walk through a tunnel which stays very cool. It feels amazing on a hot day! There are a couple areas where you can take steps down to a dock that's closer to the water. There's also a lot of informational signs about that stretch of the river too, so you can learn more about the water itself and how the land was developed. Once you're down there, there's nowhere to get water, so make sure to stock up at the lobby gift shop and refreshments.

An elevator takes you down 70m go the base of the Niagara Gorge and onto a beatiful, well maintained boardwalk trail. FYI, It is not a long trail. This trail takes you right up close along the Niagara Rapids. Unique view compared to the typical Nigara Falls. You walk back the same way you came to get back to that elevator which leads you back to the entrance/gift shop. Washrooms located accross the street. Option for a shuttle that goes to and from Clifton Hill area (about a 10min drive) from the central Niagara attractions.

Along the way there are several fruit stands and attractions like: the flower clock, views of the Niagara River, Niagara Botanical Gardens, the Whirlpool Aero Car and Niagara Falls Whirlpool Adventure Course, etc. You dip down into a little town on the way that has plenty of character. On our way back we stopped at a wonderful produce and gift store, Walkers Country Market, and relaxed with an ice cream and bought some butter tarts to go, a delicious reward for all the exercise. Please note: the trail has a few challenging spots, a couple hills. But other than that, most riders should have a very good time.

The Niagara River Recreation Trail is a beautiful trail running all the way from…read moreNiagara-on-the-Lake to Fort Erie, past the botanical gardens, wineries, fruit stands, historical houses, art galleries and of course, the incredible Lake Ontario and Niagara Falls. While staying at Harbour House Hotel on a recent vacation, I was able to utilize this trail to continue my training for an upcoming race. The trail begins at Ricardo Street and Nelson Street (directly across from Nelson Park, a TINY waterfront park) and continues along a mostly flat path, all the way to the falls {there is one major hill right before the Botanical Gardens!} The trail is paved and mostly shaded once you get past Fort George and is a 22.6km walk/run/bike to the Falls. FYI: the Botanical Gardens are a much more manageable feat if you're looking for a nice bike ride, about 15.2km (takes about an hour from the start of the trail)! The trail gets busy during the day, but is quiet in the morning, although you will regularly see bikers/runners and dog walkers even at early hours, but a much lower 'nosy' crowd. There are lots of picnic tables, grills and you'll even find some parks along the trail with bathrooms. I didn't see any water fountains. The trail has kilometer markers every km, which makes for a convenient way to track your distance. There are many small parking lots along the trail with free parking (occasionally you'll see a paid parking lot, this is most likely in conjunction with a historic house, just go a little further down the road, and you'll find a free spot in no time!) I highly recommend checking out this trail if you're a runner, biker or just looking for a beautiful walking trail while in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

I had originally planned on just doing a quick lunch walk to do some bird watching but when I got there I quickly realized I'd be there longer than expected because there were so many rarer birds I had never seen and the place was so beautiful! The trail along the gorge rim was really gorgeous. Pun intended Some of the other trails inside of the woods were pretty muddy and a bit hard to follow because of the leaves, but using the alltrails app helped a lot. All of the trials were well marked too, which I really appreciated. It does seem like this place needs a bit more upkeep, but for the most part it's a really great park to walk at and it's dog friendly. All of the trails are pretty moderate and not too strenuous.

Just a beautiful day for a walk, there was full sun but it felt wonderful & shaded on the trails (11 or so miles of them). We will definitely go back. A small brook and a pair of picturesque walkway/bridges are the highlights of this wilderness…read moretrail. But let me emphasize the "wilderness" part of the trail name; it's not as well maintained as some hiking trails you'll find in WNY. From the start, it was clear this was a hidden secret of the area. With no parking lots at the trailhead, parking was limited to a small cleared area alongside the road. This space was only large enough for about three vehicles. Getting into the woods, the ground was uneven and rocky, and any trail markings became lost or confusing. Trails were overgrown with tall foliage, and poison ivy and poison oak encroaching and often crossing the trails. This said, however, the well-constructed benches, the bridges, and numerous signs about the local wildlife did demonstrate that this trail had at one point been lovingly built. Be prepared. Wear appropriate footwear. Mind where you step. And keep an eye on the brook so you know which trails to follow. It is not a difficult hike, but it is more rough than was expected. Mostly due to the need for maintenance on a few of the supposedly marked trails.
