I lost one of my keys to our house so we needed to get the main door to our condo changed. I called Art answered and said come right down and he would take care of it right away. He even explained how easy it was to remove the lock assembly. I arrived at the shop and Art greeted me and was just finishing up another job. I handed him the tumbler assembly and asked for 4 keys. He completed the job in less than 15 minutes which was awesome. This is small shop but large in taking care of his customers. Social distancing signs are enforced and Art is masked. Awesome small business. 10 stars! I made the drive out there to get some car keys cut. I bought the blanks on-line and was going to program them myself. I called them ahead of time and they verified they could do it. They wanted to know the make & year. Quoted me $10, but when I arrived, only charged me $10 for 2 keys! I have passed this business for years and have never required their services. I like staying local when possible. Last week I added a new tumbler lock to a bike rack. I jammed the lock and needed some expertise. I went into their shop for assistance and was immediately disappointed. The guy working the counter told me he had never seen a lock like I brought in. Weird, because I see them on every bike rack I come across. He barely looked at it and said, "I guess you can drop it off." I asked for my lock back knowing he could careless about helping me. I walked out puzzled for his lack of enthusiasm. I drove 1/2 mile away and the next shop had it fixed in no time. Went with 2 stars instead of 1 because at least the curb appeal is nice. I mean they're your local locksmith and key maker (I think that's a term?). I brought over my older model van that needed a second key w/a chip. They were able to take care of that. I also had an issue with a door lock. They were able to explain how to fix it, and with that advice I solved the problem. All in all, I left with a new key and the ability to fix the lock on my door. I lost my key fob to my car and bought a replacement on Amazon. I tried to program it at home using advice from the internet but was unsuccessful. I took it to Art's and he was able to quickly program it to my car using a computer that he plugged into the car. He finished programming it within 5 minutes. He then cut the emergency key that comes with the fob. The price was reasonable versus having the dealer program it. I was in and out with the new fob working withing 15 minutes. This company has been around for decades; that's why I trusted them to re-combo my 4-drawer safe. I haven't used it in a long time and have lost the new combination. I phoned them last week to either retrieve the combo or to send someone to install a new combo on the safe. First, they don't keep any record of combos they reset. Second, they weren't really interested in doing it - - "We might be able to fit you in, in about 2 or 3 weeks." The next company I called was able to come out the following day. read more

We've been climbing through the back of our Honda CRV for over a year. It's the only way to get into the car when it's locked. Stopped by Art's (with no appointment) and asked them to take a look at it. An hour later, it was fixed. Even though each step of the process presented a new problem, they persevered and got it done. But that's not all. My wife called during the process and reminded me that she needed to be at school and I needed to be home to watch our son. When they overheard that, the other guy at the store stopped what he was doing and helped out. Wow! It's a third-generation, family run business owned by Livermore residents. Personally, I think that's a great thing and only adds to the value. I'd definitely recommend Art's and I'll be going back again. I needed a car key replacement for my Toyota Camry. They quoted 200 odd dollars and four days to get it done since they didn't have any blanks in stock. I checked with Daryl at Tri Valley. I got it done at half the price in 20 minutes. They probably would have done the job as well as the other place but charging twice as much seems excessive. Unless the keys are gold plated I wouldn't recommend getting car key duplication done here for the price they charge. Update: The owner was kind enough to call and let me know that they use an original Toyota key while others may not. That is the reason for the price difference. That makes sense. So far, I haven't had any issues with my key that doesn't use an original but that doesn't mean it won't in the future. I will update my review to make it a 4 star. read more

I needed a new car key. Over the phone they provided the possible prices....If it could be cloned, then $80, if it had to be programmed, then $115. Simple and direct. I went to the establishment and he was able to clone the key for $80. I was in and out in less than 10 minutes. Compare that with Livermore Ford who quoted me over $250 if they could clone it. My girlfriend slightly bent an old car key and took it to Orchard Supply where the key guy deftly tried to straighten the key with his fingers and broke it in two. He then announced there was nothing more he could do. Yeah. Thanks, buddy. We Yelped "locksmith in Livermore" and Art's came up. She took the two halves of key in and amazingly, they were able to somehow duplicate the broken key. I can't tell you how much heartache would have ensued had our one key been lost. We recently moved back into our home and wanted new locks. We also wanted to refresh a couple of the outside lock sets with the surfaces damaged by the sun. Scott came to our home, was polite and informed. He said he would get back to us that afternoon. We heard nothing. We called 3 days later and were told again he would get back with us that same day. We heard nothing. We called six days after his visit to the home and finally talked to him. We were told "I cannot find a dealer who carries your equipment. If you can get it I can install it."
