This is one appointment I never wanted to end. Nicole was amazing with everything from the shampoo to finishing touches. Nicole knows how to cut hair. I've been getting a bob for 30 years and I am very particular about how it is done. Nicole took her time, getting everything exactly straight, layered and evenly cut. I am most impressed with the back of my hair. The best bob I have ever had. It was my first time at Aru, I was desperate to get a cut for an unexpected outing, but was feeling slightly intimidated by the word 'spa'. This place is very relaxed and super friendly. This was the worst experience for a pedicure. $70+ and all I got was a nail colour change. No exfoliating of the foot, no anything really, toenail clip and colour. Charged to use credit card and not advised they were going to do that. I would have used debit if they had told me. read more

Aru gave me a FREE cut & style to donate my hair to BC Children's Hospital! It deserves 5 stars for this alone, but I did have to remove 1 for a couple reasons (read on!)... First, **if you're interested in donating hair**: Call Aru to ask for the "application", which is a few questions to answer by email. You'll need (1) a South Surrey address and (2) at least 8 inches of virgin (never chemically treated) hair to spare -- with a photo to prove it. My application was approved within a day, and they were able to get me in for a next-day appointment, which was wonderful because I was leaving town the following day. I arrived a little early, and the stylist (Serena, I think?) ran late, so I sat in the waiting area for ~30min. Nothing major, especially since I was offered a drink and given a "warm buddy", which I thought was a nice touch. Serena gave me a pretty quick consultation, made 100% sure I was going to be ok with short hair, and went ahead to chop 4 ponytails approximately 8in long for donation. After that was the usual wash with massage, cut, and blowdry (plus styling which I declined). I thought Serena could've been quite a bit gentler with my scalp, but I also didn't say anything, so... The cut was fine, not exactly what I wanted (the ends flip outward rather than inward) but not horrible. The entire thing took only about 30 minutes, which made me think Serena could've put more care into the cut, even if it's a straightforward one. But...I can hardly complain when it's all free! (I did leave a tip). The only other thing that was a bit iffy was that, when I left, those 8in ponytails were still just sitting on a counter. What actually happens with them? I was trying to save money and bought a Groupon for this place. Booked an appointment with a girl I heard was great. When I went to my appt is was not the girl I booked, but a super young girl who totally screwed up my hair :( Why would you agree to book someone for an appointment and then not tell the client it changed? So unprofessional. I ended up going back and had another girl fix it. I'm disappointed my hair is now back to it's original hair colour (with very minor change for the better), and is now fried from being dyed twice in such a short period of time.  While I'm glad Aru Spa was able to get me in a 2nd time to "fix" the disaster that was made the first place- I'm out over $120 (2 tips, extra product cost & the Groupon cost) and wasted 7 hours of my time. I've had three massages here with different masseurs. They have all been wonderful and professional. the environment is relaxing too with shower and steam room. However, today I can't believe I see an ant crawling in the bath robe! And I don't want to let my imagination go about the where else could have had other things... I had few times massage with them, last time I booked an appointment with them, and confirmed by email two days before. When I was being there I have been told the appointment has been cancelled the day before, they were saying someone did call them to cancel it, and the staff saying she's remembering my voice and the guy called them get my name spelled right. I'm not usually one to complain, but I am feeling very disappointed and frustrated that after repeatedly telling the stylist Stephanie that I did not want a wolf cut, I just wanted a bob -- I came out of the chair with a wolf cut. I noticed that she seemed to be putting a lot of layers in my hair, so I checked with her to make sure she was just doing a bob, not a wolf cut. After it was styled, and it was very clearly not what I asked for and was instead a shaggy wolf cut, I asked her to trim off the weird flippy tail ends of the cut to make it look more like what I asked her for (I showed her a reference photo at the beginning of the appointment, a blunt bob with minimal layers) she then barely trimmed the ends with no visible difference. She then told me it "probably just looked that way because of how she styled it", acknowledging that the cut was not even close to what I asked her for initially and offered to have me book another appointment with her to fix what she had done. Overall she didn't seem confident in her skills at all, and seemed to get more nervous and unsure as the haircut went on. I will not be returning. read more

well can I just say this place is amazing, been coming here for 60 years as a regular customer and have never been disappointed, always given the best of care when I need my pubes trimmed, the worst they have got is about 4 inches but its alright they take care of them, make sure theres no ingrown hairs in the wrinkles and cheeks ;) so I would recommend this spa/salon to anyone who needs what they do, I always leave a tip as they give such good care for such low prices. the quote team work makes the dream work really is true as it takes about two hours per appointment and takes about four different members of staff to tackle my bush but they enjoy it im sure as they have to spray air freshner when my bloomers are pulled down, definitely make the trip for this place if concidering a spa/salon trip , I rate it 10/10 read more

This was my first time to Aru Spa. Its started out good, had a steam and relaxed before my massage. During my RMT massage her nails kept scratching me. When I finally mentioned it she said " I dont have any nails". The whole massage felt a bit awkward. I've worked in a spa for many years and the service was mediocre if that.. Massage therapist has long finger nails that are digging into you, which was not relaxing! They have no air conditioning, the room was so hot they had to leave the door open during the massage! I recently purchased a Groupon for a hair cut to try this salon for the first time. Unfortunately I was not satisfied with the cut at all as it was quite uneven. I was however satisfied with the prompt and courteous help in rescheduling an appointment with another stylist as soon as possible. Lenka was very pleasant and took great care in giving me a cut that I was very happy with. I would definitely ask for her again when I visit Aru. read more

I went into the salon a little under a week ago and got a treatment for my hair - "hair botox" Is what they called it I believe. No word of a lie when I say it has been the BEST thing I have ever done for my hair. I have crazy frizzy hair and in the summer it is so hard to always straighten it and keep it in place, but even just one day after the treatment I was able to shower and leave my hair to air dry and ALL of my frizz was gone leaving a very natural beach wave. The treatment is $300 and only takes around 2 hours. Which is actually incredibly reasonable as the treatment is said to last around 3-4 months. I never write reviews but I just had to as this was the best thing I could have possibly done for my hair!!! read more

Went in today for an eyebrow tint and really enjoyed my experience. It is a chilly, winter day in S Surrey but I was greeted with a friendly smile and warm atmosphere. I waited for my esthetician, Cynthia, in a cozy, cushioned alcove. It was so peaceful and calm! Cynthia was very thorough and thoughtful - she was spot-on with the color, told me about eyelash tinting and why it would benefit me (without being pushy), and even gave me an eyebrow shaping tutorial. The only thing is I wish the pricing was a tad lower. Overall though, very pleased with Aru! read more

Just went here for cut and color as I saw their ad and thought to try out a place closer to home. The pictures on their website make it seem MUCH nicer than it really is. The treatment itself was well enough but I had to go conservative with the cut as it was my first time at Aru. Staff weren't overly friendly and nobody seemed to want to be there working. I also didn't like the fact that the staff were not busy so they kept looking over at us and talking. Ladies its not cool to give your customer the feeling that you are talking about them. Their prices were on the higher side but they did carry professional products. Also parking was not convenient as they don't have any. There is supposed to be valet parking but.. i had to get out of my car and go inside to ask someone where the valet is. Anyway.. i think sticking with my regular stylist is worth the drive... read more

Went for the couples Japanese experience, ended up costing me about $450 for the both of us which was expected. The one BIG issue that I had was the customer service and also the questionable levels of sanitation that the spa maintains. The couples treatment includes a full body exfoliation, the Japanese bath, and then a one hour massage. The exfoliation was nice and then we entered the Japanese bath. In the romantic Japanese bath, I ended up stepping on BROKEN GLASS. Yes that's right. The relaxing bath had BROKEN GLASS at the bottom which I stepped on. This was not only concerning, but also brought up many questions. If the bath had BROKEN GLASS in it for me to step on, when was the last time they had cleaned it? They told us we were the first customers that day to use the bath. So essentially we thought it wasn't cleaned daily, and we were soaking in the last peoples warm dead skin from their exfoliation. Needless to say this ruined the experience for us entirely. Pay 450 dollars, step on some broken glass and relax in other peoples floating dead skin, nice. Luckily, they said they were sorry, and offered me a free $10 gift card with a minimum purchase of $50 on my next visit (never going back). Also, they said that the next day there management would call us to right the situation. It's been 2 weeks now and they never bothered calling. WOULD NEVER GO BACK Notes: -Went for Japanese couples experience -Stepped on a shard of broken glass in the bath of other peoples dead skin -Said they were sorry and gave me a $10 gift card if/when I spend another $50. So a maximum 2% discount. -Said they would call to right the situation. Never did, it's been 2 weeks. -Spent $450 for a non-relaxing semi-grotesque experience. read more

I wouldn't even give a star if I had the option.. Be careful the staff tell blatant lies to avoid admitting to their mistakes. Their "skin care specialist" left product all over my skin during a facial. When I complained, she lied and said that she told me she was leaving product on my face due to a nose piercing (the product was left on THE OPPOSITE SIDE of my piercing) but that I did not remember this warning because I "was distracted on my phone the entire time and therefore wasn't aware of what was happening" (I didn't even have my phone with me!). I paid extra for a foot massage that was apparently 15 minutes, but it lasted about 2.5 minutes TOTAL. Again, I was told "since I was on my phone" I just didn't notice that a massage had taken place. I offered my phone bill to PROVE that I did not even have my phone on me the entire time but they ignored that. After a month of contacting them (me having to call and email repeatedly to remind them that they haven't responded to me), I finally asked for a refund but was told the owners "are not available for contact". An upscale spa and you cant even contact head management with a complaint?! They will take your money, and lie to cover up poor service .. not trustworthy!! Dont waste your time, they will lie about the service they give you when you enter their spa. Currently filing a complaint with the better business bureau since they claim that I cannot contact the head manager/owner. read more

While the stylist was cutting my hair, she was actually complaining about her job and gossiping with the other stylists while she was cutting my hair. I went with my partner for the package where we got body scrub, massage and a couples dip in their huge bath. It was amazing. we were greeted by very friendly staff. the entrance is a little dark but that's because the walls are black. there was product all over the walls for sale but i didn't ask about it. we checked in and we were shown to the male and female dressing rooms. there were lockers in the dressing rooms/bathroom and a shower and a steam room that smelled of eucalyptus. after a quick steam and a change into fluffy robes we waited in this circular pillow lounge thing. there were magazines, and we were offered water or tea or wine! we were then greeted by two very nice ladies who were going to provide us the service. we were led to a big dimly lit room with two massage tables. the music was nice. it was sort of asian with gongs and pan flutes. the tables also had little sarongs on them or something that gave it a bit of asian flair. we started with the body scrub. It smelled so good. arms legs, back, and optional stomach area. then the girls stepped out so we could rinse off the scrub in the shower area that was IN THE ROOM. oh i forgot to mention, there were rose petals everywhere. leading to the shower and huge deep bath, candles lit. we showered off and hopped into the bath filled with bubbles and the water was milky and so smooth and soothing. while we were in the bath, the girls brought us more wine and changed the sheets. after about 20 minutes or so the girls told us it was time to hop back on the tables for our couples massage! my skin was so soft already from the bath, that the massage felt like a dream. after the massage we put our robes back on and headed back to the dressing rooms to change, shower off any oil and have more wine if we wanted. it was such a great experience, and the staff was so nice. I love visiting Aru, and really enjoy their massage treatments. I've visited for their one-hour RMT services 3 or 4 times now, and always leave feeling refreshed and relaxed. My husband and I have gotten couples massages, and have found that the best time to book is towards the end of the day. If they can manage it, they'll book the men's change room for a couple so that you can use the steam room together after your treatments. You can ask about this in advance. If they don't have any other men booked for appointments, they can usually accommodate this request during the day, too. Although this is a high-end spa, I've found that the staff are very friendly and warm. I've visited other salons and spas with very pretentious, stuck-up staff and I always find it very off-putting. This is not the case at Aru. Before and after treatments, they serve complimentary wine. The receptionist couldn't tell me who made the wine, but the red is really quite good. read more

I received the worst haircut of my life here. So bad in fact, that people at work were asking what happened to me. Words literally can't express how awful it was. I wanted a trim and came out with an honest to god mullet. It was appalling and for the first time in my life I cried in a salon. The so-called business manager then hacked some more off (at which point I told her it was fine and to leave it bc frankly I was running out of hair) and told me that when it grew back to come in and they would fix it for free (my mom had already paid $70 for the cut otherwise I would have refused to pay). When I called back the few months it took to have enough hair to cut the business manager then said "Oh you were happy when you left" (I was crying when I left) and then proceeded to tell me I was under the mistaken impression that they were going to honour the commitment to shape my hair up when some had grown back. I told her at that point that she had terrible business practices and that I would make sure that the people I know who go there, stop. I promised her that I would make sure that it was advertised that this is how they treat customers when something goes wrong. It took 2 years for my hair to grow back and I refuse to set foot in that salon. I suggest you refuse as well bc when they ruin your hair they will not make it right. read more

I went to Aru for a facial and absolutely loved my experience! I can't wait to go again. When I arrived, I was directed to a wonderful spa like bathroom / changeroom to change into a robe. They provided a locker for my personal belongings. I changed into my robe and was offered tea / water in a private lounge while I waited for my appt. ( I was early). The Aru signature facial was the best facial I have ever had. The room was cozy and relaxing, and my spa therapist knew just what to do to make me feel wonderful. I loved that when she put the moisturizer on face, she massaged my neck, all the way down to my arms and fingers. My face felt so fresh and clean, I left the spa feeling beautiful! I would highly recommend a visit to Aru for their signature facial! read more

I don't mind when offered a service and being told it will be at an additional charge but when something is done without making it clear that it will cost more it's very frustrating... I had difficulties and poor communication (no callback) scheduling my appt at Aru Spa. I had to email to ask if their automated system had dropped me "between the cracks". On the day of appt, i had a BUSY, full morning ( in swimming pool). After arriving for appt, i had repeated phone messages (including one from my husband, so they TRIED to contact me) informing me they had personnel off sick, and wanting to reschedule. But someone was there for my scheduled massage. The steam room is lovely. An RMT student was friendly and kind - massage ok, but i was disappointed. The spa appears cosy and comfortable - low lighting, spa music, tea and waters, but is not so clean. The lounge area was tired and cluttered; after my massage, I went to use a "sterilized" brush, and it was full of ratty hair! Ugh. I had been here a couple of times 2 years ago, and I now remember why I hadn't returned. I will not return and I do not recommend this spa. I cannot comment on the salon. Suggestions 1. Monitor and follow up automated, web-based booking system. 2. Hygienically critical areas should be spotlessly, clinically clean. 3. High end services are required for high end rates. read more

I had a god awful experience at this spa. I wish gift certificates were refundable. The girls were caddy and bitchy to me seems like they had nothing to do with their time but stare and pick their nose. The treatment itself was gross. The room was cold the girls breath stunk like crap as she was doing my facial she also added on a service I did not consent to and later was told at the desk I had to pay for it. I had an extremely disappointing experience at Aru. I went for a French mani/pedi on the day of my brother's wedding, I wanted my nails as fresh looking as possible. The girl who did my nails, took SO long on my fingers, there was no time left to do my toes. As well, my fingernails were a mess! There was white polish all over my finger tips. I took pictures and emailed them to the manager, (who wasn't there the day of, a busy Saturday afternoon and no management on staff is ridiculous!) and all she offered me was 15% off my next service. I went here to get my hair done for a special event, and left highly disappointed. My stylist curled my hair, and everything was fine, until she got to my bangs. I really didn't like how she was doing them, so I suggested I do them myself, but she refused, and instead twisted them and pinned both sides to my head. It looked terrible, and I ended up taking them out and re-doing my bangs myself. for 80$ it is most definitely not worth the money. I didn't even get an updo, and my style took 25 minutes (no wash or anything!). I got my makeup done there on the same day, and again, it wasn't what I wanted at all. I won't be returning read more
