It's very wide, and it was windy on that bridge the day I was there. I also saw that people put all kinds of locks on this bridge, not sure what that means. The Uptown neighbourhood is really great and rivals Plaza in some ways (not others) as the coolest neighbourhood in town. You have Tucker's Onion Burgers (my fave location) which are delicious - and then right next door you have a bunch of some of the best Chinatown stuff you can imagine in such a small City like Oklahoma City. Chinatown is technically separate from Uptown, but they're neighbours, so it works out. The Chinatown here is really growing and is surprisingly awesome. Try Quoc Bao for Banh Mi sandwiches, and the smoothies (Honeydew, Berry, Taro Coconut, Mocha) at Bambu. Now if you'll excuse me I have to hang out with Alexa Rae Joel.

Downtown Oklahoma City is quiet and sleepy and not particularly thrilling. You wouldn't really realize you were in a downtown except for the tall buildings. It's nothing like the bustling downtown of Dallas. But it's a pretty and it's a nice area to hang out in, especially for the hot dogs at Chili Dog Express.

This is a controversial and risqué piece located near the Oklahoma City Memorial. It is commonly…read morereferred to by a NSFW name. There is metered street parking available right by the piece. The piece is located at the weird intersection of Broadway and Dean A. McGee. It was installed in September 2018 and is in excellent condition. The circular piece is made of stainless steel and has the letters OKC, in various sizes and orientations, all around it. In addition to being an art piece, the ring hides a power transformer for the streetcar system. It is the focal point of a small little plaza that is well landscaped and has benches. It is also meant for those scootering or walking around town to take a break. What makes this are installation is controversial is the words or phrases that people can form with the OKC letters. Some see three Ks, while others see a four-letter word that begins with a "C" and ends with a "K". I find this piece interesting. It is difficult to determine who designed the piece. I have tried but have not been able to find out who it was. The piece looks amazing at night. The letters are formed with plexiglass that is illuminated with color changing LEDs at night. The plaza area also has some lights along the walking path. There is no surprise that this piece is a top attraction in OKC and gets a lot of traffic. Even without the controversy, it is a nice piece. In my opinion the controversy just adds to its mystique. It is definitely worth a visit, especially for those with a weird sense of humor like me. Anyway, as with most public art that I review this is not particularly a destination piece, nor is a very long stop. I got my chuckles and was there less than 5 minutes. So, you may want to consider planning out additional stops at some of the other attractions in the area, or making this stop part of a larger itinerary to maximize your time and trip. As I mentioned, The Oklahoma City Memorial is right around the corner from the piece.

Military Park Vietnam War Memorial holds a special place for Asian District and OKC. Briefly, the…read morememorial was on display in Military Park on July 8, 2017. Sculpted by Thomas Jay Warren, the statue is to dedicate the millions of Vietnamese civilians and Republic of Vietnam Armed Forces soldiers, and more than 58,000 US serviceman and servicewomen, who served and sacrificed their lives during the Vietnam War. As a member of the Vietnamese Community of OKC, I was fortunate enough to be involved in the process of the renovation of Military Park and the fundraising for the statue (Brothers in Arms). The idea of the memorial came about when Vietnamese American communities across the United States wanted to have a memorial statue dedicated to their cities. Oklahoma followed this thinking but is not the first one with the Vietnam War Memorial. The Vietnamese Community of OKC worked tirelessly to fundraise the memorial. During that time, we did not have enough money to rent fancy venues for fundraising events. Not only did we planned the events but we also set up and staffed the events. We were doing everything from hosting, setting up, serving, cleaning up, selling merchandise, you name it. The supporters and different committees are on the statue but I would like to list the members that actually made all the fundraising events possible. Vietnamese American Community of OKC members in 2017: Minh Do, Loan Le, Thinh Dinh, Tuan Pham, Thuy Le, Chau Nguyen, Uyen Phi, Oanh Nguyen, Vi Nguyen, David Nguyen, Phuong Nguyen.

I am drawn to War Memorials because these brave citizens have fought for the freedom we enjoy every…read moreday! I first saw this Memorial by chance when I went to see the Milk Bottle Grocery across the street in Sept of 2018. It is quite visible from there. I headed over to the memorial, read the inscriptions and took a close look at the sculpted soldiers. This Memorial is dedicated to the Vietnam War. Thomas Jay Warren is the sculptor of this amazing piece. (Side note, he also sculpted King Kamehameha III in Honolulu, HI.) The title of this sculpture is "Brothers In Arms". There are 2 soldiers, one American and one Vietnamese (from the south). The U.S and South Vietnam were allies during the Vietnam War and fought against Communist North Vietnam. This sculpture reflects that. You need to take a closer look at the sculpture or you could easily think there were two American Soldiers standing as "Brothers In Arms". This memorial was put in Military Park's Plaza of Flags on July 6, 2017, and dedicated two days later. There is a flag flying for the United States of America and for South Vietnam. After seeing this, I realized that this is appropriately placed in the Asian District of Oklahoma City, OK. There is a large Ceremonial Urn in front of the memorial for burning incense. I really like this entire concept and seeing it! It is a very thoughtful memorial that pays tribute to our heroes.
