    Trap in laundry hamper
    Candace T.

A very close family member was staying at Carroll Manor for physical therapy and medical supervision. I had to bite my tongue a lot to be sure they at least got half decent care but as best as I can help it, they will NEVER be back here. The medical notes indicated that the patient is diabetic but for every meal, they were served some sort of dessert... A male nurse walked in on her showering as the female nurse had walked off and left her alone. Clothes where listed in detail on the inventory form but twice clothes had to be hunted down. Not to mention the hamper was never used because who wants to place their clothes in a hamper holding a roach or mouse trap?? Then to make matters even worse; when leaving, the patient asked for the wound care supplies that their insurance paid for during the nursing home stay so they can be used by the visiting nurse at home, and they were told they were in the bag and that "you can't see everything"... Well, no supplies were in the bag and now we're having trouble getting the proper supplies sent to the house and the wheel chair they said would be sent to the house still hasn't arrived. This really was a learning experience. I wish more people would write good and bad reviews on medical facilities to help take the guess work out of finding a good place to send loved ones for care. I had to return to pick up a personal item that was left behind and all the nurses acted as though they didn't know who or what I was talking about.

So, when my father had to be out there after his stroke for subacute care...I was worried. HOWEVER...I WAS SO INCREDIBLY PLEASED WITH WHAT I WALKED INTO THE SECOND TIME! The entry hall is lovely and clean, the room my father is in looks great. The door on the bathroom clearly wasn't renovated, but I don't mind because the rest of the place is WONDERFUL! My dad used to live over at a similar place on Thomas Circle. Initially, I was impressed with it, but then it kept getting worse and worse. Elevators and AC weren't ever working, leaks weren't taken care of, my dads dryer wasn't locked down into his washer (so it won't fall) and it has almost fallen on him (and my son and me) on several occasions. They definitely overcharge for the service he gets over near Thomas Circle, which is a darn shame. I had so many hopes for that place, so it makes me sad. That's why I can tell you with all certainty I WISH I had put my father at Forest Hills! Had I known they were going to be renovated I would have jumped at the opportunity because everyone who works there is so lovely. I will say this...IN SHORT: I am so happy with what Forest Hills has done for my father so far. Everyone who works there is patient, kind, and loving. You can tell when someone likes their job--and from what I can tell everyone who works at Forest Hills must love it because they make everyone who lives there happy! :0) (The ONLY reason I don't give Forest Hills 5 stars is that it is IMPOSSIBLE to get in touch with anyone who works there. Also, I have been given incorrect emails from staff...BUT, once you get in touch with someone THEY ARE GREAT!!)

This place has no business caring for people! My husband and I were required to take a covid test when we arrived. We were both handed a box and told to read the instructions and take the test. The woman told us to go to the kiosk, register and take the test. Seeing so many people walking around and no dedicate area to take the test, I went back to the desk. We were told to stand in the entrance...yes, we were swabbing our nose as people were going in/out of the building. This was embarrassing as well as disgusting! We took my brothers clothes and other necessities on the 15th. As I entered the facility there were people loitering in the hallway. Staff were talking loud, joking and playing with each other. The smell of urine in this facility is horrendous! As my husband opened the closet to hang up my brother's clothing, a large bag fell out with someone's belongs. I checked the drawers and they too were full. Two days he was moved. We found his clothes in a plastic bag with whatever remains were on his food table. Hiss new underwear, socks, and deodorant were missing. VA transport picked up my brother for a doctor's appointment and when I met them at VA Hospital. I was told that my brother needed to be changed. Yes! They sent him out probably with the diaper he had on the night before! As we were talking to the doctor, he asked the doctor if someone could change him. The doctor looked at me, I was so embarrassed. The next day I found my brother in the bed with a sheet draped across him, and the door wide opened. He told me that she had been gone for a long time. I closed the door and stood there for about 10 minutes waiting for someone to come back. My brother had a stroke, and could not feed himself. They were putting his tray on the table and removing it, if he doesn't eat. VA was paying them for full-skilled care which means someone should have been feeding him. My brother's room was extremely hot. I was told that the heat had to be left on because the man in the room with my brother had breathing problems and need the heat to breathe. WTH! It's 100 degrees outside! My brother was sweating badly. I contacted Veterans Administration and told them of the situation, and they immediately started arrangements to get him moved. Just 2 weeks after my brother entered this facility, I was finally getting him out! He is in a beautiful, loving facility that is taking good care of him. One other thing, don't let the manicured lawn with the flowers, videos or pictures fool you. The inside is a dump full of some uncaring humans. I say some, because I know there are some people working there who truly care. You have been warned!

Initially, we thought the only option with documented success was a specialized out-of-state hospital treatment center. We knew it would take weeks to get accepted into the program and then to hopefully get it approved by the insurance company. We thought we'd try bringing her to Dr. Frye for relief during the interim. The drops and salve provided immediate improvement. Her pain level is no longer 8-10. In fact, she rarely mentions any discomfort now. She's sleeping through the night and has less anxiety. She also suggested eliminating foods that have shown to cause inflammation which we've implemented. Needless to say, we are totally pleased and have no need to pursue the other intensive rehabilitation treatment center option.

I called the billing department and they sent me paperwork that didn't agree with the BCBS Explanation of Benefits. I tried calling the head of billing to see why it was so high. I checked their website but didn't see anything about billing amounts or questions. I called the patient advocate who recommended calling the head of the department and gave me the contact. The contact no longer worked with MedStar and the person I eventually found said that they charge by the exercise in 15 minute increments. BY THE EXERCISE? I asked her to check. Never heard back. Figured that they realized they had gotten the right amount between BCBS and my co pay. 7.) Just got a new bill for... $1,000 +- with no explanation. My emails have been left unanswered, texts have been left unresponded to, and the mailbox for every number for the office I have tried is full and hasn't been cleared for months. To start, I had a great experience until January of 2022, but afterwards, my experience with Got Your Back has been an absolute nightmare. While I paid up front for a 12-session treatment plan, I only received 8 treatment sessions before the office closed with the promise that Dr Klein would be in touch. Months have passed and I received no call from him. To add insult to injury, the office has sent repeated invoices for the treatment I already paid for despite me speaking with the billing office two months ago and them telling me to not worry and that it was simply a clerical error that they would be sorting out. Fast forward to this week, when they sent me a letter saying that I was delinquent on payments and they would transfer my (already paid) balance to a debt collection agency. They have been consistently unresponsive and unprofessional through this whole ordeal. I have received no offer of refund or completion of treatment plan, and instead been hounded for payment which was already processed months ago. Overall, it is a shame that GYBTH has come to this because the care was truly great beforehand. I only hope that this finally gets the attention of the office and catalyzes action. If not, I highly recommend you take your business elsewhere.
