Good care, given challenge of staffing levels at all such facilities. Clean, good security, pleasant staff, nice time, good food.

The entire bed, handles headboard, mattress had salvia embedded into the plastic We witnessed a patient in a wheelchair with bloody toes on both feet with a pair of dirty booties. He indicated that the nurse would not give him batteries for his hearing aid or stop the bleeding. Most importantly on the day of his arrival in order to receive care the social worker had our family to attest that Knollwood was his primary residence in order to receive payments from and to Medicare and Blue Cross. As of today it's been 5 months since leaving Knollwood continues to submit invoices for services to Medicare and Blue Cross Blue Shield and Knollwood continues to bill and is receiving payments. Knollwood presents itself as a prestigious rehabilitation facility but in fact patients that should be in memory care and acute long term care are put on the same floor as those who are short term rehabilitation care. How are they getting away with billing insurance companies and sending payments, both to a nonprofit and for profit company which all of Knollwood intake documents are specifically for Military Families Members While in Knollwood our family kept their outside doctors and upon leaving we were given a slip for his doctors to sign. We learned on the day we were leaving noticed that from our outside doctor evaluation reports were put on-transferred onto Knollwood treating doctors medical history and recorded as if Knollwood was the doctor treating our love one. As a caregiver having had to endure overwhelming pressure and with the staff of unqualified doctors and nurses, some that couldn't understand English did not give and correct dosages of medication and could not interpret the diagnosis therefore his medication prescribed was not given throughout the 21 days such that we received calls each morning to tell us that they were trying to kill him and because the three types of medications were to keep him alive. At the hands of Knollwood was something like a SYFI movie. The staffing communications were a joke and the conditions were horrific which caused a tremendous amount of anxiety.

There are musical performances and other cultural and healthful activities. It's difficult for anyone to adjust to a new environment, and even more so for an elderly person with dementia. The Kensington Park staff do their best to welcome and acclimate new residents - which, with the added problem of Covid, is a challenge. They are kind and attentive, dealing with irritability and other behaviors with grace and patience. The management is very open to communication from family members and every issue is addressed. Visits from family members are easily scheduled. It's a good place.

Subsequently, I spoke to my friends' daughter who told me "since her mother broke her arm, she was not participating in activities, and was too tired from too many visitors. The supervisor's recommendation was no visitors other than once a week from each daughter, as per my friend. My friend is 97 yeaars old. The elderly NEED verbal stimulation, not isolation. My friend, the elderly lady, does not like this place and has expressed it in no uncertain terms. My experience with ideas like this ends in the life of the elderly person in less than 8 weeks. My friend (the daughter) has placed her mother in a prison because caing for her mother is an inconvenience.

I have been watching this lady sit in my grandmother's chair and watching Mom on TV since 11:46. My grandmother does not watch TV during the day, and even text me to hide the remotes the next time the aid is supposed to be there. She also told me that the aid went upstairs to look around, even though my granny, her bed, her clothes, and bathroom are all on the first floor - this upset my granny so much that she has talked about it since it happened... such a cruel thing to do for an Alzheimer's patient... My grandmother even got out of her bed, let her dogs out, and got back in bed without the aid even moving. I sure hope Mom reruns are enjoyable because I will be complaining of the care to Inova and anyone else who recommends Life Matters. I have been calling Life Matters to cancel any further visits for more than 30 minutes with no answer. Update - I finally reached someone. I was told I wouldn't be charged for the day and they would offer a "free" day for the trouble. They called and told the lady to leave, which I watched happen remotely. I've never seen anyone move so fast in my life. I was told this isn't what is expected of aids, which I believe is true, but in my opinion, this woman was far too comfortable walking in and just sitting there watching TV to not do this regularly. Thankfully, I was able to see what was happening, and hopefully it won't happen to someone else.

I was managing my sister's care remotely from Missouri and could not remain in Arlington indefinitely after her surgery. The intake procedure was handled by an excellent social worker. While I was promised reasonable continuity of staff members going forward, instead we were assigned a different social worker for each subsequent follow up. Sadly, there was no continuity from one visit to the next. All I received was an email summarizing my sister's physician visit that I could easily have obtained, as medical POA, without paying $300+ for info I could have easily from the physicians' office directly. The geriatric care manager concept is a sound idea. However, attempting to effectuate it with no staff continuity devalues the service. This is a temp service, not professional geriatric care management.

So, when my father had to be out there after his stroke for subacute care...I was worried. HOWEVER...I WAS SO INCREDIBLY PLEASED WITH WHAT I WALKED INTO THE SECOND TIME! The entry hall is lovely and clean, the room my father is in looks great. The door on the bathroom clearly wasn't renovated, but I don't mind because the rest of the place is WONDERFUL! My dad used to live over at a similar place on Thomas Circle. Initially, I was impressed with it, but then it kept getting worse and worse. Elevators and AC weren't ever working, leaks weren't taken care of, my dads dryer wasn't locked down into his washer (so it won't fall) and it has almost fallen on him (and my son and me) on several occasions. They definitely overcharge for the service he gets over near Thomas Circle, which is a darn shame. I had so many hopes for that place, so it makes me sad. That's why I can tell you with all certainty I WISH I had put my father at Forest Hills! Had I known they were going to be renovated I would have jumped at the opportunity because everyone who works there is so lovely. I will say this...IN SHORT: I am so happy with what Forest Hills has done for my father so far. Everyone who works there is patient, kind, and loving. You can tell when someone likes their job--and from what I can tell everyone who works at Forest Hills must love it because they make everyone who lives there happy! :0) (The ONLY reason I don't give Forest Hills 5 stars is that it is IMPOSSIBLE to get in touch with anyone who works there. Also, I have been given incorrect emails from staff...BUT, once you get in touch with someone THEY ARE GREAT!!)
