I finally got the chance to go to Ascot Hills Park. Initially came here specifically to see the sunset. What held me back was that I read some reviews on Google saying there were coyotes, and car break ins. My overall thoughts was that it felt pretty safe. I went around 3pm on a Saturday evening. Lot's of free parking. The trail was nice, all paved. Around this time it wasn't crowded at all. Most people come here to take photos with the city view. I really enjoyed this short hike and highly recommend at least coming here once!

I hike here all the time with my dog. Good exercise from the uphill and relaxing walks afterwards.

This is such a great place to do some hiking! There are plenty of trails to choose from. When you go to a higher spot, you can see great views of LA. There is one path where the slope was extreme...good thing I didn't start that side to go up because it looks exhausting! The strangest thing I see are the snails all over the branches. There's a dirt lot to park the car at the entrance. There is a few parking spaces as you go down the road. I did see people park on the side of the road.

Amazing views but just be careful there's coyotes and snakes there's cute little bunnies

Recently visited here again and still just as good as the last times. The views are simply gorgeous and unbeatable. Though there are other places where you can see the skyline and view of the city, I find that Ascot Hills is so accessible and convenient.

While on a trip to the Los Angeles area, my friend brought me here for a hike. As an East Coaster who usually hikes in New Hampshire, this wasn't your traditional hike. The first part of the hike I did was essentially a steep walk up a paved path, which was decorated with graffiti. After that, it was pretty easy. I'm more accustomed to hiking on dirt filled with stones and branches, but the paths were pretty much just dry dirt. My personal preference is something a bit more challenging, but this was a good area to go hiking with people of all skill levels. The main draw here was the views. It was pretty cool to be able to look one way and see the mountains and look another way and see Los Angeles. It was especially nice to see the snow-capped mountains this time of year. Overall, I'd recommend for a convenient hike!

I'm not a complicated hiker at all and enjoy easy ones and this one is such a hidden little easy hike near the SGV! There's a nursery right at the very first entrance to the park/trail. They teach you how to plant trees and you can volunteer too! Parking on this first lot can hold maybe about 20 cars and even when I arrived at 9a on a Saturday I found a spot. If you need more parking, up the paved road is even more parking. The trails are easily found on the map or just by following the paths. You can't really get lost here because it just makes loops. The sights are pretty sweet when you make a stop to take in the scenery. There are portable potty's stalls there but I did not venture to try them.

This is a great hike, a quick 10-min drive from Monterey Park for me. There is a good amount of parking available on a dirt section before you start the hike. It's a continuous incline and there are a set of different paths you can take to the top, including an extremely inclined paved 'road' that I would definitely be scared to drive down. Even walking up at times felt like a climb (shoes with good traction is key!) Watching the sunset here is just stunning and there's a nice view of the LA skyline and then the hills rolling on the opposite side. Worth a visit for a good workout!

Great short hike. Will def get your heart pumping. Beautiful sunset views! Totally recommend it.

This is and has been my morning meditation place since before Covid. It is the perfect place for a person like me. What I mean is, it feels safe for a woman and her dog. I hike a lot and with that always comes the question of safety. I feel safer here because it's meadow-y. You can see your path really far out. There aren't trees to block you at all. It's a place where you can take a good hour hike through decent hills. I hit at least 5,000 steps if I go all around from one end to the other end. During the winter and spring it's so gorgeous. Green hills and lush brush. As it gets warmer it dries out and gets dusty but either way it's a great spot to find amazing views of dtla and surrounding areas. The parking is way easy and I'm so glad we have this space to wander! It's quite beautiful! Just look out for coyotes and snakes? I've seen dead ones but have never had a live one cross my path. It would be cool to see them. The snails are so cool, they're all over the brush and the ground. The rabbits are so cute too!

Review during Covid ~~~ October 2020 ~~~ First time I saw the hill from Lincoln Height area. I was t sure if there was any hiking trails there, so I google search, but google didn't show any trails. Then I search through All Trail app, that's when I found a few "not so famous" trails in the areas. I finally decided to explore every single neighborhood trail in the area, and here it is! Ascot Hills Park with two gated parking lots, and multiple intertwined trails, one of which leads to the whole view of downtown LA! Ok, if you are still reading by now you might know by now that I am obsessed with trails, and this one has an amazing view of my favorite city. As a public park, with all that it provides to the bored, locked down residents under the time of pandemic, this park deserves my 5 stars you can rate your own experience after you visit it. *** the first parking lot is on the left side of the gate when you enter. The second parking lot is a little up the hill aim to the right after you enter the gate. *** suggestion: night hikers should bring flash light as it gets dark very fast, and wild animals could come out at night.

    Great hike

Ask the Community - Ascot Hills Park

    Are there restrooms or bathrooms?

    Yes but not super clean.

    Are bikes allowed here?

Yes you can mountain bike there. I've never seen bicycle tire tracks but I've seen any bikes there. I guess 99 percent of the people are hikers. I'm planning on going back to riding my mountain bike and that will be my practice area.

    Can you drive up?

No, you must park at the desginated parking area and walk thru the hills

A couple of things that could be better: It's a dirt/sand path, so wear shoes you don't mind getting dusty--unless you want to spend each day cleaning them. It's usually around 6,000 steps for me--though that varies--and roughly 400 calories burned (but don't quote me on that!). It used to be free but it's $6 per person and you have to park on the street, but no big deal here . . . yet. Our group of 3 walks up along with another person and we try to check in with 2 men at a table. One older gray haired man tells us the tour already started. I'm completely confused and look at my watch, and say, "it's only 3 minutes after the start time." Then he says, "We were looking for you!" I said, "Well, you weren't looking very hard because here we all are checking in at the start of the tour." After he checks us in, I ask if we can sprint to catch up to the tour and he says yes. I lean into the doorway and see the rest of the tour - 4 other women right there. So half the tour was 3 minutes "late" and they decided to start, weird but moving on. The woman leading the tour was really quite lovely and I wasn't expecting the house to be so amazing since I was focused on the garden part but I really loved learning about the house and original inhabitants. We are asked several times if we want to join the meditation but I'm getting culty vibes and we keep politely declining. Once we are outside, we are asked again if we would like to join the meditation and now the gray haired man is with us again and I said, "No, we really just wanted to see the gardens." At this point he says, "Oh the gardens are closed." I'm completely confused again and said, "What? But that's why we came-- to see the gardens & labyrinth." He then says, "Oh! well the labyrinth is open but the gardens are closed." At this point I think they asked us to join the meditation again. I asked when they expected them to be opened and the response was June of this year, maybe because there have been a lot of delays. Again, weird, but okay we just want to walk the labyrinth. There were a couple of other women walking it and then our group of three joined too. I'm halfway thru it and I look up and see the gray haired man STARING at us - which included 3 preteens/teens in halter tops posing and taking pix - and I was so incredibly creeped out. I had no idea what to do, cross the labyrinth? ask him what he is staring at? I came to this place to ground and do something calming and now I have a man staring at me and other women but since everyone else was looking down or at their phone, they didn't notice so I didn't want to disrupt THEIR experience. Eventually he went away, to join the meditation I guess. We finished the labyrinth and left. It was only $6 but since it didn't mention the gardens were closed on the website or ticket, I am asking for a refund. Would I go again when the gardens are open? Yes. Would I recommend to others? Yes. Would I advise against it as a single woman? Also yes. I will update if they refund us or not.

But the second you actually spend time here, especially on a weekend, it turns into something completely different and honestly pretty disturbing. The park gets insanely packed, which already makes everything feel chaotic, but the real issue is the condition of the facilities. The restrooms are beyond unacceptable. Not just "oh it's a public park" bad, but genuinely shocking, like something that makes you stop and question how this is even allowed to stay open. I'm talking about conditions that feel neglected to the point where it's uncomfortable just being nearby, let alone going inside. I went into two different restrooms thinking maybe one was just unlucky... nope, both were equally disgusting. I'll be posting pictures because it honestly doesn't feel believable otherwise. It gives off this weird in-between vibe where you don't know if you're at a city park or some kind of neglected shelter space, and that's not something anyone should feel at a place like this. What really made it worse for me is walking into the recreation building with the basketball and volleyball courts and realizing it's the same story inside. Worn down, under-maintained, and just lacking any sense that the city is actually investing in it. Meanwhile, you literally have the Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust right there being renovated and cared for, which just makes the contrast even more frustrating. How is that level of attention happening on one side, but the actual park people use daily feels ignored? It's honestly disappointing because this place has so much potential. The location alone should make it one of the best parks in LA, but instead it feels like it's being left behind. I hate to say it, but I probably won't be coming back. There are just too many other parks where you don't have to deal with this level of neglect.
