We love Ascot! Everything they have is great...from the fine meats, sides, frozen items to save for later....and the desserts! Wow. We have been customers for many many years and this last visit tried the frozen pizza...unbelievable delish! I have to say just about the best pizza I have ever had...carry out included. I even make homemade and this frozen was better. Crispy crust, bursting with flavorful sauce ...and tons of cheese. We get the fresh ground sirloin for steak tartar and it is always perfect! My wife decided that we would use the Kababs that her dad would get for special occasions during a family meal. We drove out to prospect heights from Antioch and got 4 each of the beef and chicken kababs. They were VERY pleasant and helpful. Lovely folks. The kababs were the BOMB! This shop is just a few blocks away from my home. When I walked in I was immediately greeted and informed about the meat quality and gluten free commitment that the owners have. I was promptly escorted (not shrugged off or pointed, but ESCORTED) to the lamb section upon request. These people want and deserve my business. Why they are worth the slightly higher cost: They do not add fillers to their meat. This is a much heavier and tastier option. They have their own product line and support other small businesses and their product lines. They are friendly and super helpful. For me, that's worth the extra $ alone. They have creative kebabs and stuffed meats ready to go. Give them four days notice and they will make sure to have fresh product for you. They told me so. I'll be back. read more

I have always lived near this butcher but just started going on a regular basis for the past 2 years I would say. I LOVE it! I'm so grateful we have a nice place like this nearby and wished I went sooner. Their food is great and they have so many options to pick from. I love the variety they have. I even get my dog their fresh marrow bones and their homemade dog food. I just hope it stays affordable for me so I can keep going! Also, their staff is SUPER helpful with tips on how to cook their meats to ideas for sides and even cutting the meats/bones to any specific size needed. You won't be disappointed here! read more

My now retired, former butcher taught me how to disarm a airline terrorist with only a ballpoint pen, so Ascot looses a star for not yet impressing me to that degree. The meat quality is excellent, but what brings me back are their "home made" entrees and sides. The bacoooooon wrapped, stuffed pork tenderloin is a particular favorite of mine. The cheesy/pesto garlic bread, twice baked potatoes and paper bag apple pie are regular freezer stuffer items I buy as well. It seems that not many people (at least ones I know) understand what quality meat tastes like. Compare a couple of cuts from Ascot to what you usually buy at "The Jewel's" and you will be a convert. I'm not sure how late they are open, but the store is located a block from the Prospect Hts Metra Station, so stocking up every couple of weeks is a simple matter for commuters. read more

I've never loved a butcher as much as I love this place. I didn't think I could even fall in love with a store. Here's a list of meat I've bought at Ascot over the last 6-8 months: -Filets -Bone in Ribeye -Boneless Ribeye -Porterhouse (twice) -Stuffed Pork Chops (every time I go) -Marinated Pork skewer -All the wursts -Short plate, 4 ribs -pork roast -Brisket flat -Fogo charcoal -Red wine au jus -Stuffed mushrooms -whole chicken -chicken breasts I remember all of these because they were all fresh, flavorful & well butchered. The meat quality is excellent. The beef and pork are all nicely marbled. They also trim the larger fat rinds off to the right thickness for cooking. The prepared foods are really well made. Ever since Schmeiser's in Niles closed I was having a tough time finding German sausages that compared. For a couple good Italian boys, they really know their wursts. I don't buy brats anywhere else. The beer & onion are my faves and the cheddar wursts are a guilty pleasure. My family loves the stuffed chops. They're a regular in the dinner rotation. When I want to cook a nice, adult meal for friends I know I can rely on the steaks to impress. I can't say enough about the service. Everyone is friendly and attentive. You can call ahead and with enough notice they'll get almost any cut you want on the next order...that's how I was able to get a short plate to make tomahawk short ribs. I also think the pricing is right where it should be for a real, quality butcher shop. I think the steaks are even less expensive than a certain Amazonian grocery store (for the regular steaks...not the aged). Lastly, they stick to what they know. There are just enough accompaniments in the store. Just essentials. They don't try to sell anything and everything. Only what you may need to cook the meat you buy from them. Go here. Spend money. I give this butcher a mixed review. 5 stars for quality of meat. Incredible. But 1 star for caring about safety of customers right now at holiday time with a continuing serious pandemic, they have a "masks optional" policy. Only 1 of the 6 employees I saw were masked. I wore my mask as I am in a high risk category and was there early in the day when there were no other customers. If you agree with their policy then you'll be fine here. But if you prefer a business that works hard to protect their customers then look elsewhere. read more

Bait and Switch I called this shop to order some pork fat for making sausage and they quoted me $2.50 for fresh pork. However, when I arrived today to pick it up, they charged my $3.39. I asked to see Matt, the gentlemen I had spoken to over the phone and she said it came in higher than he expected and could do nothing about it. Because the Ascott Meats shop is far from my home, I called earlier in the day to confirm pick and spoke to Matt. He made no mention of the increased price. I need the item for an event and have no timely alternatives, so after having to drive all the way I had no choice than to purchase the item. It is my last purchase. read more

Outside their window, they advertised "Order Your Fresh Turkey" and I was very interested, believing I would get a fresh (not frozen) turkey of a higher quality we normally never get at any grocery store. My husband pre-ordered it went there to pick it up Wednesday, but the girl working there had no clue about his order. She went into the back for ten minutes and came back with a packaged frozen turkey, which she claimed was "chilled." It was exactly what I could've gotten at the grocery store, but this was much more expensive. We had to pay $45 for a 13 lb turkey. I have no idea if she just couldn't find our order and replaced it with a frozen turkey they had in the back, or if this was actually the product we got suckered into. Most of their stuff there's gonna be a lot better than what you're going to find jewel or Mariano 's, plus they always have a few things No one else has like Arctic char , and Picana steak . Went there on a Sunday to get a roast. They were nice and cut a piece of meat for me. With that said it was just a hunk of meat wrapped in butcher paper. Go to Thuringer meats in Arlington Heights if you want a top notch roast, they are uniform in size (not an odd shape chunk of meat with fat wrapped on in and tied. Not to mention the prices are high here but the roast was okay. Nothing to rave about IMO. read more

Ascot has high quality meats at moderate prices. Homemade sausages (pork, chicken and turkey), pre-seasoned roasts, pre-stuffed chops and your regular butcher offerings. Their cases are filled with appetizers they prepared, and they have everything in store to make a pot of chicken soup. The great thing about local places is that they know you and know what you like. Whenever the guys make a new product (turkey breakfast sausages, yummy!) they toss one in for me to try. By my third trip in they recognized me, my likes and threw a few jokes around. Ascot Prime Meats is a small butchershop all the way out in Mt. Prospect. As a homemade sausage maker I willingly go out of my way for quality service and quality meats. A friend recommended this shop. I'm grateful for that recommendation! Stopped in today to pick up some pork shoulder, pork fat, and hog casings for my homemade sausage. Service from the young lady and the older gentleman was awesome. They both helped me out with exactly what I needed and were very knowledgeable about sausage making which is something I enjoy talking about. I also ended up picking up some of their house made sausage. I got their sweet Italian, hot Italian, brat, and chicken sausage. Their sweet italian was great, hot Italian had a perfect zing and a nice amount of fat in it, the brat was pretty sweet and flavorful, the chicken was grinded perfectly and turned out much better than any chicken sausage I've ever had. The quality of the pork shoulder I got was great. It was lean but had a nice amount of fat, which is needed for the sausage. The man even offered to grind it up for me, that was very nice. Not just meat, but side dishes, lunch meat, natural dog food and treats, etc. I feel confident when purchasing a cut of meat I've never made before because they will tell you suggestions on how to make it. They have delicious prepared meals like stuffed porkchops and chicken breasts that you just pop in the oven and they are ready to go. The plain chicken breasts are my favorite and if I run out and have to go to the grocery store, I can totally taste a difference. This place is amazing. You know you drive by all the time and think "oh it's a hole in the wall" or "maybe they're too expensive" but both are untrue. It's a full butcher shop and deli with high quality meat. I dare you to find a better grill burger than the price than Ascots, which usually average about $1.50-$2.00 per good sized, large patty. Excellent homemade sausage. Porterhouse and ribeye cuts are better than any grocery store, yet only a buck or two more. Quality lunch meat, and their ready made dinners are amazing. Stuffed chicken breasts, bacon wrapped turkey meatloaf, and homemade pasta sauce are my favs. Feed your family a good meal without having to do prep work.
