5 stars for sure. 1st time going, so getting the lay of the land was awkward. Employees seem to think everyone is a repeat customer. Everyone is nice, but less helpful. Food is Spectacular!!! I can't wait to go back. BLT...perfect. Northside Johnny was amazing. My 1 complaint was about the BBQ baked beans. I asked for a side, and was told NO. You have to buy a bbq combo platter to be allowed to buy beans.......weird, right? How difficult is it to serve a side and charge me. Oh well, we are going back anyway. The shop is much smaller than I imagined from their Instagram posts. 15 tables at most. The food was good quality to be sure, but sadly not what I hoped it would be. I ordered their smash burger. It was good but not impressive. We had asked for sauce on the side, but I think they interpreted that as additional sauce on the side. The burger had sauce on it as well. The flavors were dominated by the sauce. Being a butcher shop I was hoping for a really good burger. I'd rate it average. We went a long way to visit and sadly while the staff is super friendly and helpful, what my sister and I ordered wasn't something we'd make the drive for to get again. Maybe we choose the wrong things. The parking for us was easy. The staff very friendly and helpful. The pizza on the bar looked dried out or outright burned so we stayed away from that. Volo Quality Meats is an Italian butcher and deli. We were in the area and was looking for a deli,. On a Sunday afternoon the place was packed. There is limited parking and we were able to secure the last open spot. When we walked in we were greeted by one of the butchers, while he was carving beef. The deli showcases a large variety of meats. There are also several freezers with packaged meats. We bought a few varieties. They have a diverse menu of sandwiches. Sandwiches were priced a bit high, but it they were high quality. I had their signature sandwich -the Franklin. It was recognized by Chicago Magazine as one of the city's best dishes. It was roasted turkey , sofrito aioli, cheddar, avocado, arugula, and pickled red onions on sourdough. It was a blend of flavors. My husband had the reuben . It was in house-prepared Brisket Corned Beef, swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and a tangy Russian dressing. We had a side pasta salad and potato salad . There is indoor seating and almost all of the tables were taken. Prices are a but steep, but the quality was very good. read more

My hubby and I drove 45 minutes to check this place out and I am so glad we did. This is one neat place beaming with pride in their food and service. Someone on Yelp commented that the prices are high. Well I don't mind paying a little more for high quality food made with love. All the food we ate and bought was delicious! They make their own deli meats and hard Italian sausages that are made right next door. And sold at other places. Their brand name is Tempesta. The mortadella was so good. They also sell a spicy version, just as tasty. The pastas are amazing. We talked to the owners dad and he was so nice, happy and proud. You really need to check this place out. read more

I think the sandwich I had, #13, the Franklin sandwich, was the absolute best tasting sandwich I've ever experienced. Wow, I didn't get the bacon, and it was very tasty and fresh- see menu in photos. It's a turkey sandwich with lots of goodies included. My husband had the #19 sandwich, the Reuben. That was fantastic too as I had a bite to compare sandwiches. Wow, what a friendly, charming place. The employees were accommodating and made their recommendations. Now, it is expensive as it was $38 for the 2 sandwiches, one order of fries and one drink. I guess you get what you pay for. Since we were in the area and after reading reviews from other Yelpers,we decided to stop in on a Saturday for a late lunch. There is parking in the front and back of their building. The inside has table seating plus a butcher shop selling fresh cut meats,cheeses,sausages and cold cuts. The layout is somewhat confusing as to where you order and pay..basically if someone is behind one of the registers,that is who you go to. We ordered one of their gourmet sandwiches ..The Northside Johnny . It was very good but I would have liked less chimichirri and more porchetta. Sandwiches are a little pricey as you do not get chips or a small side salad. My wife had their Italian Potato Salad which was very good. They don't have many food options if you want Gluten Free. They bring the food to your table and the wait time was not too long which gave us time to browse. They offer Daily Specials as well as salads, soups burgers and desserts. There was a constant stream of customers supporting this local establishment which is always good to see. We ended up buying a few packages of their homemade sausages and snack stix. I feel if the staff would have been a bit more helpful in explaining their ordering system and their menu and daily specials were all listed in one area,this would be a 5 star sandwich shop. read more

We were in the area and searched for something to eat and found this market and deli. There are only a few parking spaces, lucky for us there was one available for us to park. You can dine inside or outside.Everyone working here is very kind and polite. They have music playing in the background which is nice too. I ordered the Franklin Sandwich it comes on sour dough bread and is very flavorful. Every bite was different so it was not bland and boring at all. I would definitely order it again. My husband ordered the Chicken Parmesan. Fried chicken breast with marinara and topped with melted cheese. He said it was good but the chicken was a little dry and there was too much sauce. He liked it but will try something else next time. They have coke fountain drinks and bottles of other beverages in a cooler too. The dining area was clean and the temperature of the room was a little warm but still comfortable. We will definitely be back again to try more of the menu items. This butcher/deli is a good stop in Volo for carnivores looking for just about any cut of meat. Gluten free or vegetarian options are almost nonexistent. The older gentleman who greeted everyone except us (he was called to the phone) was very warm and helpful. The other staff members need training. We dined in anyway and everything was freshly made. I enjoyed the organic blood orange sparkling soda and it was the same price as a fountain drink. The Italian Potato Salad was unique with green beans and vinaigrette that was pungent. My husband enjoyed his sandwich but I thought it looked like it could use much more meat on it for the price. They had some samples of various meat sticks on the counter which were on sale at 50% off. There are tables indoors and picnic tables outside to enjoy on a nice day. read more

This is that "once a week spot" that so many people don't have. Until this spot opened I was one of those sad individuals. Honestly if I had the money I'd eat here every single day! Initially drawn in by a yelp prompt about delicious sandwiches I was skeptical. I HAVE been fooled before. One step inside and you'll get it... this is the real deal. The smell hits first, and whatever it smells like when you get in there it's guaranteed to make you hungry. The atmosphere is amazing as well. They've done something incredible with this space. Wood, brick and iron provide a backdrop that feels more like your in a Naperville Butcher shop than anywhere near Volo (Thanks for being HERE and not there guys, seriously). The Butcher counter knows their craft and the head chefs here know how to build flavors. I will say, the cashiers are a bit clueless sometimes so if you have questions, don't ask at the checkout if you can help it. I've now eaten here more times than I can count. Just look at the pictures... almost all mine. I won't go over EVERYTHING but I will say everything is amazing! I love getting the weekend specials. From chimchangas with fresno pepper hot sauce (still waiting for them to just bottle this) to the thickest chicken sandwich on the best bun, they do some amazing and fun stuff with these. Keep an eye on social media for updates on these items and remember that they can go quickly. The hot bar changes daily and, again, it's going to be delicious. It also moves pretty quickly... especially if it's wagyu burnt ends. Yea, they get real authentic wagyu here sometimes, you can get it at the Butcher counter as well. The sandwich menu is full of winners. Every sandwich they do is the best version of that sandwich I've ever had, even the turkey sandwich is a masterpiece of flavor and techniques. The pizza is fantastic and you can grab a big slice and have it heated up for you. DONT SKIP THE FRIES! The seasoned fries are the best fries. I didn't even know I'd been eating such pitiful fries all my life but I can't pretend I don't know now. These fries are life-changing! I can't say enough good things about this place, I almost don't want people to know about it just so it doesn't get too busy but they deserve the praise. I do think this is a must try destination but it's a shame that there's not much else to do around here to make the trip worth it. The Volo museum is nearby and could help kill some time if your looking for something else to make the trip worth it. If your a real foodie though, the sandwich is enough. Side notes. Parking is very limited in front and the back lot is a loose gravel "do your best" type of situation. They have gaming in a side room and offer some discounts on pizza and wine if you want to hang out in there and test your luck. And, best of all, once you get it, it taste more incredible than it looks! Ok, back to the basics. I drooled over 50-day dry aged ribeye while ordering a sandwich. I couldn't decide so I asked the shop to make my decision and ended up with a Dirty Talk sandwich. It was brisket, an egg and ecstasy aioli. If I could have climbed in the bun and rolled around I would have. While that was going down I had a slice of cheese pizza. The was a lot of cheese and some mild moaning. It was pretty great. Hidden Gem. Discovered VQM this year and have been here several times over the last 6 months. Small place that packs a powerful punch. They're a combined butcher shoppe, deli, super market, take out/dine in, pizza place, Italian pasta hot bar and must have sandwich shoppe. The NY pizza slice is huge and delicious. The smash burger is tasty. Steaks are aged and everything is done with great service in mind. They are a great follow on instrgram also. If you come on the weekends be prepared for a wait. It was ok, very expensive and the sandwich I got (b frankin) was a little skimpy on the meat and way too much avocado...and it just didn't taste great. It seems like the ingredients are high quality but just wouldn't order it again. Also ordered a slice of cheese and it was a combination of burned and floppy and there was just too much stuff on top of the cheese that ruined the taste. I had high hopes having just tried adams sub shop in McHenry a week ago but was kind of a letdown. We had never been there before so we decided to take a ride to Volo. The place had good ratings so we figured we'd give it a shot. We ordered the meatball sub and it was huge. We went at noon on Valentine's Day and the place was jammed we almost didn't get a place to sit, but we did eventually find a table. It was well worth the drive. I think I was expecting more of a meat market, but they had lunch meat so you could purchase and sausages. I don't know how much meat there was. The seating area was nice and comfortable. read more

Didn't know about this place til I was in the area looking for food! So glad I found it because it was lovely inside and food was delicious. We shared a Big Mike sandwich and it was huge, fresh and full of flavor. I also got a loaded fry and it was so good! Crispy too. Service was good, we got our food quickly and the workers were kind. Where has this place been all of my life? Oh yeah. It's been in Volo Illinois. And I live near St. Louis. So I don't get to drop in very often. But when I am visiting family up here, this is my favorite stop. The food is amazing. I'm not a fan of their pizza but everything else that I've tried is just off the charts. I can especially speak for the pastrami. It's not just pastrami, it's Wagu pastrami. OK, so I can't spell it. Big deal. I can eat it and that's what matters. The sandwiches are next level. Crust was good the ricotta cheese on it was a little light. Overall , could have used more flavor. Center of the 12" was a little undone the outer edge was just perfect. A hidden gem in Volo. Tucked on a side road - you may miss this place when looking for a place to grab lunch but it's a must add to your list of places to try. The inside reminds me a lot of the Mars Cheese Castle. A small curated shopping area with unique European food selections. There is also a deli counter with a wide selection of meats and cheeses. We stopped for lunch and it was hard to decide what to order so I settled on a few things. First, the VQM Smash Burger - the crispy bits on the edges of this burger were the best bites. I found the burger to lean on the sweeter side with the combination of the caramelized onions, the aioli, and the brioche bun. I feel like it would have been a 10/10 if there had been something to balance the sweetness - like a different onion. Second, I got the B. Franklin - overall the flavor combinations of this sandwich were fantastic. The pickled Fresno chilies are a really nice pop of heat and I would have even liked more of them. My only complaint is the texture of the turkey - I had expected a thicker sliced Turkey or even shredded roasted Turkey. Instead the turkey was so thinly sliced it almost felt like I was eating a creamy turkey salad the way it compressed together. The texture was not what I expected. Finally, I got a side of the fries and added garlic butter, Parmesan, and parsley. I don't have a single word to speak against these fries. They were so delicious, crisp, and flavorful. I still think of them weeks later. Bottom line - I really enjoyed the selection and what they're trying to do here. I'm ready to return for round 2. read more

The food is top notch. The Italian options to take home are great. Love Jeff Mauro's contribution to VM. The staff overall is friendly. The cashier is part of the overall customer experience. It could be the only interaction a customer may have. I know the person at the register is someone's mother or someone's sister. I'm sure she has a good heart. But it's critical to be the smile or the fixer that gets to yes or doesn't mind getting a big sandwich wrapped to take home half of it for later. Or getting a pizza order wrong. It happens. It happened to me. Ordering peppers on a pizza and getting pepperoni. I didn't call to complain or take it back. Their food is so good we just ate what they gave us. And that's why I will go back. My only regret is not having come in here sooner. Someone gave me a recommendation to try a sandwich here. Truth be told, I love sandwiches. My waist line proves how much I love sandwiches. Right when you walk in this place you can't help but be awestruck by the meat, cheese, etc selections available for purchase (I need a game plan and will be coming back soon for steaks, salami, and sausages). I ended up getting the Dante which is their take on a traditional Italian Sandwich. I can't explain how great it was. Even details that so many places fail, they flourish. Example, that's the freshest, best tasting tomato I've ever had on a sandwich. The standard this place sets for itself is incredibly high and it just delivers. Finally gave this place a try after hearing great things about it for so long. Upon walking in, the place looked promising; tons of Italian specialties to look at everywhere, and it smelled amazing in there as well. Ordered two sandwiches; the Cubano and the Yo Vincenzo, which is a basically a chicken parmigiana sandwich. Two sandwiches, a drink and no sides came to $35. Sandwiches were big, but were mostly bread, and were pretty heavy and greasy. I know everything is expensive these days, but if I'm paying $15 for a sandwich, I expect a little more to that sandwich, or at least a side with it. First, the reason I don't have photos is because of how outstanding the meal was. I didn't even have a chance to take photos! Read on... This off-the-beaten-path place is such a unique experience. As a reviewer who is cognizant of what large families need, this place checks that box. They have pizza by the slice, sandwiches, and an entire selection of craft beer and wine to choose from. Outdoor seating is small but good, and their indoor seating is large enough to accommodate a family of 7. This day, my brother and I each got the special, a chorizo, pulled pork aioli sandwich. It was fantastic!!! Not too spicy or heavy and I ordered the side of garlic fries. The service, per usual, was fantastic and so helpful when making that hard decision on which sandwich to order. The only small pitfall that I believe cannot be avoided is the fact that the order takes about 20 minutes to receive as it is prepped fresh. Bravo!! read more
