It took us about 20 to 30 minutes to go through it all and we also spend time speaking to the owner. He was friendly, knowledgeable and you can tell a lot of thought went into everything. Each item on display had interesting facts but also some had a bit of humor which made the boys laugh. In the middle aisles, they had a selection of toys, rocks, plushies and some boardgames for sale. I wish I had taken more pictures but as my husband said, "If we had taken more photos, his phone would be full of ..." well you can imagine lol Overall, I would definitely recommend stopping by if you are in the area, especially if you have kids and want something quick, fun, and a little different. It was a nice break that costs nothing to enter but leaves a lasting impression.

The exhibits are fascinating, covering everything from the geology of Northern Arizona to the region's wildlife and the rich history and cultures of the Native peoples. The museum sits on beautiful natural grounds that are worth walking through as well. We brought our 18-month-old, 3-year-old, and 5-year-old, and all of them had a great time while actually learning a lot. There are so many interactive elements, including an animal scavenger hunt, pull-out drawers throughout the exhibits, videos, and hands-on displays you can touch. There's also a discovery area with books and toys that our kids absolutely loved. We spent about two hours here, and it was time well spent. If you're visiting Flagstaff, or even if you've been coming here for years like I have, don't make the mistake of overlooking this gem. I'd absolutely recommend it for families and anyone interested in the natural and cultural history of Northern Arizona.

The Sedona Heritage Museum was different from other museums I've visited. While it wasn't very…read moreinteractive, there were plenty of readings and QR codes to scan for audio recordings, which added depth to the experience. It was especially interesting to learn about the family who once lived in the cabin and how the property was passed down through generations, giving a real sense of Sedona's history. Admission is $10, though cultural passes are available through local libraries. It seems the admission fee helps keep the museum running, as there are several signs encouraging visitors to pay at the door. We spent about an hour exploring both the indoor and outdoor exhibits. There were many unique and fun things to see, including the iconic turquoise McDonald's signs, a Morse code learning area, and an old-fashioned apple peeler/corer. Outside, the views of the Sedona red rocks were beautiful, and there's a nice park nearby that's perfect for a short walk. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the gift shop had lots of cute items. A nice bonus was that there's no sales tax in the store. If you have the time and want to learn more about Sedona's history, this is a nice spot.

We spent about 1 hour, maybe a bit more here, exploring several buildings, each filled with Sedona area history. The main building houses a huge amount of local history in the form of plaques, dioramas, physical items, pictures, art and more. The barn houses an old horse draw buggy, a restored vintage Sedona fire truck, an entire apply processing plant and much more. The small, tan colored building seen closest to the entry point is a nearly 100 year old, fully restored movie set piece that was used as the telegraph office. The wireless set is in there along with a vast amount of movie posters, artifacts and details about the impact the filming of nearly 100 westerns had on Sedona. There's also some spectacular views of close rock formations from the property. There are a couple of well done bronze art pieces outside. One is of a Cowboy Storyteller telling stories to two children. Another bronze is of a couple, standing on a broken wagon wheel, holding a lantern and looking straight ahead. This one is by artist John Muir and tells a story. This museum was a real nice visit.

It seems to be an underrated museum which should get more exposure and traffic than it apparently does. As their mission states: "To instill understanding and respect for the indigenous cultures of the southwest." And they do it extremely well. Within the unique stone building and confines of the relatively moderate size museum space are an incredible array of objects, relics, Nik-Naks, gifts, paraphernalia, and artifacts to peruse and learn the while away. Our tour guide, Marco, was fantastic and great at answering questions for our little group of 4. The mansion really is just a showcase of how a wealthy person's home from the early 1900's. You get a glimpse into their business and personal lives as well as the type of furniture employed in the household. The tour was interactive and nice. The self guided tour is just literally walking around the mansion so there isn't too much to see but it makes for a nice, short walk. Overall, I think that there are more interesting museums out there. But if you're looking for a super quiet museum to browse, this would be the place.

It's only $2 per person to enter and they take all forms of money. My boyfriend and I saw it all in about 35-40 minutes (including me reading every minute detail and looking at just about every artifact haha). While the focus is on the area mines' histories, one cannot forget about the town history as they are both intertwined. The town flourished when the mines flourished and vice versa. I found it interesting on the bits about the "red light district history" too - a bit of a scandalous past but part of the past. Spend a little time/money here, shop/browse the jewelry for sale up front and you're golden for an hour or so.
