If you've never been, the renovation that was done on this theater a few years ago brings an incredible art deco space to downtown Lexington. The interior is very well executed. There is a small bar/concession stand inside, and the staff is very friendly. Though we only attended an event in the lobby, we did like our head into the theater and it's a very beautiful space. They seem to host movies, plays and concerts in the theater. There is also a small ball room that can be rented for private parties. The Smith is definitely helping bring life back to Lexington, a great space for events and gatherings. If you get the chance, check this spot out

Adorable kids section! My kids LOVED it!…read more We moved to the area last year and have wanted to visit the library for so long. We were finally able to go and get our library cards and check it out. The kids section really shines here. They have made cozy and fun spots for kids to come and read, learn, and explore. They have sweet activities to keep them engaged, like a book hunt and a prize at the end. I'm hoping to make this a weekly outing on the weekends for my girls. The adult portion is not as impressive but they still have a decent showcase of different books. I didn't have too much time to look around, but got a few for myself. I'm so glad we have a library so focused on children close to our home. If you have kids and live in or near Randleman, you should check it out.

I did have some trouble finding it (in the parking lot behind Randleman Recycling Center - same street as Richard Petty Museum,) but when I did, what a fantastic place! Very friendly staff and a great selection of books for what it's worth. I wasn't expecting such a vast selection. No, it's no Greensboro Library, but they have lots of computers set up with their catalog system for easy finding. The area is clean and books are organized accurately. Very child friendly, as well. Highly recommended for the readers in Randleman!

When I do reviews of cities and towns, I always review based on places of similar size. So I would…read morenot rate Lexington against New York, Nashville or Charlotte as examples. More like Lexington vs. Salisbury, Statesville, etc.. Nice town of 18,000 plus population, between Charlotte and Greensboro. Part of the Piedmont Triad with Winston-Salem, Greensboro and High point. The BBQ capital of North Carolina and recognized as one of the top places in the US for BBQ. I had low expectation of Lexington before visiting but I was wowed by how much this small town has to offer. Downtown This may be one of the best downtowns I have seen for a town of its size. Very healthy downtown area. Lots of shops, restaurants and places to get an adult drink. Downtown Lexington has a couple of places that are rare these days. One, a downtown grocery store (old school grocery) Conrad and Hinkle. Two, an old hardware store. Downtown grocery and hardware stores have all but gone away, so it is great to see both of these places doing well here. Parking is street parking, at least I didn't find any parking garages or lots. Signs on Main Street state two hour parking which is better than paid meters like you see in other places. There is a depot district in downtown that has a couple of breweries. This section also has a lot of empty buildings that appear to be old textile or furniture companies. This section of town has a lot of promise if they can get the right businesses to come in. Downtown Lexington is a great place for a day trip. Highly recommend it. Outside of downtown For a city of only 18K, you have about every big box store you need. Plenty of grocery store variety as well. There are at least three wineries close by, including Childress Vineyards on the west side of town. Oh and don't forget about the many BBQ places. I85 runs through the city. This gets you to Greensboro to the north and Charlotte to the south. Winston-Salem is a 20 minute or less drive from Lexington which is great.

Small town charm abundant!…read more It's not fancy and may not have all the bells- but this small southern town is a perfect escape from city life. There are playgrounds and walking trails at the parks. You can find fresh eggs and milk from local farms and residents. And make sure to check out the bartering/trade tables on the main road- especially during the summer mornings they are full of bustle and goods. Everything from yard sale pop ups, to produce stands- even art displays. You never know what your going to find! There are so many great places to eat if you know where to look- and just enough places to shop. Between the grocery stores, thrift stores, and a couple boutique shops- you can find more then just the basics here. It's such a short drive the Asheboro- which has even more food and shops. The drives surrounding the town are beautiful. A few rolling hills, ponds, and so many gorgeous trees. It's quiet here- peaceful, and quaint. Home of Richard petty- there is many local statues and monuments. Surrounded by some cute parks that are great to have lunch in. They always decorate for the holidays- And for those nerds out here like me- there is plenty of poke stops and gyms for a small town here! It's a great place to live, and just a half hour drive to any big city. A great companion town to Asheboro- which is a little busier and fuller.

On a Friday evening just before sunset I found myself walking down an unlit path and it probably…read morewasn't the ideal time to be wandering around a very quiet corner of High Point but it suited me just fine. The path turns parallel to the road and for a moment, you wonder if you've taken a wrong turn but then she appears ahead of you, big and wooden and wonderfully strange. The whole place feels like maybe it used to be a part of a warehouse or a factory before nature started reclaiming the edges. It's a little eerie and a little beautiful and the fading light actually made the visit feel more memorable. Little Sally isn't little at all and she's hand crafted from recycled and reclaimed wood with a kind of personality that makes you stop and look at how each piece fits together. The setting adds to it because it's not polished or curated, it's tucked away and slightly wild, which makes finding her feel like discovering something secret. This is my second troll after Big Pete With the Big Feet in Charlotte and seeing Sally felt like continuing a small personal quest to track down these creations. I liked the quiet, the oddness of the location, and I liked that she's just sitting here waiting for whoever decides to wander down that path. What a cool art installation in such an unassuming part of High Point, near downtown. "Little…read moreSally" is the name of the giant wooden troll sculpture in High Point. It's one of many trolls around the world made out of recycled materials by Danish artist Thomas Dambo. High Point is lucky to have one of these, and it's fun and free to check out. My wife and I took my nieces to see Little Sally. A small line of families with children had built up to see and take pictures with the troll. The troll is hidden from street view, inside a small wooded area, so there's a fun "discovery" aspect to it. We parked in the large unpaved lot at the corner of W Green Dr and W Grimes Ave. Other folks parked closer, across the street in the parking lot of 711 W Grimes Ave. At the time of writing this, the building there appears to be vacant, as does the building in the same block as Little Sally. I'm pretty sure this part of town has seen better days. This project is what you call low-cost urban revitalization. Go to trollmap.com to see a map of all the trolls. There are several in North Carolina, mostly in Raleigh (Dix Park has five). Little Sally was unveiled in 2025. Dambo's first troll was "Hector the Protector," installed in Puerto Rico in 2014.

I made a return trip to the World's Largest Chest of Drawers in High Point, NC. It was getting some…read morework done during my stop, so it had a fence around it. The best place to park is likely at the lot across the street. The Chest of Drawers is on a one-way street, so you might need to plan which lane to get in if traffic is heavy. High Point is considered the "furniture capital of the world." So the 38 feet high road side attraction is fitting. The piece was originally built in 1926 to welcome people to the area and promote the furniture. The design was different, and the bureau was smaller and had a mirror. It was painted white with floral accents. It wasn't a functioning piece of furniture as the drawers didn't open. Then in 1996, Sid Lenger, a High Point craftsman and designer, transformed the piece. He wanted a proper chest of drawers, so he designed and built one with hefty brass handles. This version also doesn't open, but is meant to look like a more realistic piece of high-end furniture. He also added the two pairs of six-foot-tall socks to acknowledge the hosiery industry. I hope whatever work is being done to the chest of drawers preserves the cherry wood finish's color as intended.

Remodeled in 1996, this is the new structure. Steel framing and stucco, it stands 38 feet high with simulated brass handles. And it even includes two giant socks as a tribute to High Point's hosiery industry There is plenty of parking nearby and if you're shopping for furniture at one of these many nearby showrooms, check it out.
