I had the best time at Asheville Bee Charmer. Some of my girls and I stopped by here after lunch on my Bach. We came here because my Yelp bestie and her husband love the sourwood honey. We were all excited to check this honey store out. In the back they have a very cool tasting table. There are over ten different kinds of honey to try. I loved that you could taste test things before making purchases. It was awesome to see how different each one tasted. My group and I had a blast here. They had everything from bottles of honey, honey sticks, bee pollen, honey supplies, and more. I ended up buying a beautiful bottle of the sourwood and a few honey sticks in fireweed and meadowfoam. The honey is both local and from other states too! The staff is beyond friendly. I highly recommend making a stop to check this charming shop out. read more

It had been a few years since I was last here and since that time I've actually had a few of my own beehives so I have a whole new appreciation for the golden nectar they work so hard to produce! And the Asheville Bee Charmer continues to be an amazing resource and showcase of some of the best the gals have to offer. So many delicious honey varietals to choose from! They have their own locally sourced honey including Sourwood and Wildflower, and some sourced varieties from out of state, including Tupelo from Florida and the Chicory and Meadowfoam from the Pacific NW. They even carry Lehua from Hawaii and Fireweed from Alaska! There's also infused flavors like coffee, ghost pepper, chai, lavender, vanilla bean, and more. And the best part? You can try them all! That was my favorite part of visiting, of course, and the staff was very kind and generous with us. We didn't just sample and leave though! We ended up buying more than a few jars to take home to us and to my mom. Speaking of gifts, they also have some really cute bee themed housewares, plus skin care, candles, and other products made from bee's wax. There are two locations in downtown Asheville and somehow it still doesn't seem like enough! Great little small business. I love the tasting bar where you can sample pretty much any of the honeys. I love that they had THREE hot honeys!! I got a bottle of the Firecracker because I thought it had the best taste. I also got some sage honey, which I've tried on chicken per their suggestion, and roasted carrots which was a big yum. I've shopped here for years. The honey tasting bar is worth stopping at each time I visit Asheville. Each year they have new and exciting honeys to try. I'm also a beekeeper so I get a bit more excited about bee products and little stores that carry unique items. My daughter bought a "The future is female" t-shirt from here years ago, it has a Queen Bee on it, and she loves it, it's one of her favorite shirts. I have a well worn "Smoke 'em if you got 'em" hat with a bee smoker on it. I've worn it many times when beekeeping under my jacket and veil. They have a ton of beeswax products including soaps, shampoos, lotions, chap stick and many many more items. I usually pick up a couple soaps and chapsticks made with cosmetic grade beeswax from honeycomb cappings. So smooth and delicious. This is a unique local store, we don't have anything quite like it in Raleigh that's not a store for beekeepers. This is a store for everyone and it should be on your list of stops when visiting Asheville. read more

A local food guide recommended Asheville Bee Charmer and my mom wanted to buy gifts for her friends so we stopped by this store. It's a cozy average size store. It has pretty decorations and is organized well. They have some infused honey but most of their honey flavors are by having bees only collect nectar from a specific type of flowers. Impressive! Besides honey, they also sell some bee/honey related products like honey lotion bar, honey dispenser, shirts, etc. They have a small stand that lets you try different honey flavors so you know which one you want to buy. Some of them have very nice, clear, distinct flavors. My favorite was Lavender as it was not so sweet and really delicate. One of them tasted very close to toasted marshmallow. Others I felt they were quite similar. It's not exactly cheap but good for gifts. read more

Definitely worth checking out if you like honey or bee related things. I picked up a patch, a couple of stickers, and tried a few samples at the honey bar. They had some unique flavor offerings. What an amazing shop with (of course) a variety of local honeys. In addition, they have countless honey-based products for bath, body, and even bee-themed clothing. The staff was so welcoming and friendly and the products we tested smelled wonderful and didn't leave skin feeling sticky like other honey-esque products I've tried. We went to the Battery Park Ave location and they were closed, so we 'window' shopped for a moment and decided to return when they were open. We're so glad that we did! This is an adorable little spot with lots to see and taste. They have a honey bar where you can sample their various kinds of infused and/or raw honey. We ended up tasting and subsequently getting the Smokin Hot honey, and the Firecracker Hot honey. We were surprised at how yummy they were. My husband sampled some of the Beard Elixirs and got the Smoky Cedar one for himself. They have skincare, hair products, and T-shirts, as well as various other knickknacks, all in keeping with the love of honey theme. It's a beautifully designed shop that holds a certain warmth and flow. While we were there there was one other patron being helped at the register and we overheard the relaxed banter between them and the store employee about the bee's and honey as we wandered through. They had an unhurried exchange with a few chuckles and after they left we were the only ones left in the store. We asked to taste some honey, and afterwards we were rung up and then we left. I think this shop could be better if the staff gave each and every patron/party a consistent experience. They might benefit from having a standard protocol for how patrons are greeted and how they are introduced to the store and it's passion for bees and honey. We got a glimpse of what that could look like thanks to the exchange with the patron who was there when we arrived, however, our experience was rather flat. We received what we asked for, and then we were processed (which made this feel slightly like a generic tourist trap). It's such a mindfully and passionately put together shop, so I was expecting the staff to be honey bee Ambassadors, showing us the passion for bees through our exchanges...but it was not like that at all. What they have here is unique and I think that with a few 'tweaks' to the way that the staff interacts with every patron, the experience could become something to share and go back for. One of the things that I was disappointed about was that we had to ask them if we could leave a tip on our card for the lovely person who helped us at the tasting bar. The person who rang us up had to backpedal so that we could do this because she was already ready to close us out, like there was some reason to hurry up. This added to the feeling of being "processed" and it felt unfair to the tasting bartender that we were not naturally informed that we had the option to leave a tip on our card. read more

There's a honey bar where you can sample all kinds of different honey which is a great idea, but with only 1 person handing out samples if someone is wanting to sample everything it makes it difficult for others to get a sample in. This is a super cute shop on the heart of Asheville. They carry specialty honey, hair products, apparel, and honey inspired skin care items all at reasonable prices. I came in specifically for the honey. There are so many varieties to choose from! Everything from wildflower honey to coffee or ghost pepper infused. There's a tasting bar located in the rear of the store so you can sample each and every flavor they offer. I chose the ghost pepper and the smoked chipotle infused hot honey. For the honey they have 3 different sizes. A 3oz bottle is $6.50, a 12oz is $16, and the 16oz is $18. The staff was very warm, welcoming, and knowledgeable about their products. As The Asheville Bee Charmer store is temporarily closed due to COVID 19, I was overjoyed when I discovered that I could place an order online. My hands were overly dry from all the handwashing and I was out of the ABC products that I knew would help. I was a frequent handwasher before this as I work with children but with COVID 19 I've been washing my hands even more. The cuticle salve is what I started with to help repair my hands. Then I got some Naked Bee hand lotion. I also bought some body butter and a foot lotion bar as those are so hard to find at the store (being so popular they sell out fast). Ordering from the website was easy with descriptions of each item. Shipping is calculated by the weight of all the items and that seems really fair and a smart way to figure out shipping charges. I ordered some honey too and was a little worried about having that shipped but the items were individually wrapped and well packaged that everything arrived safely. I hope my next purchase from ABC is in Asheville but I am glad that ABC has online ordering. read more

I've got a serious vacation tee shirt problem, so naturally I got two ABC ones - they're too dang cute, I couldn't pass on supporting local and buy a few. Very fun honey-based shop in downtown Asheville. We have been a couple of times and found it delightful both times. There is a honey tasting bar in the back that stays busy. We purchased a jar of honey that is recommended for kids' coughs that was $17; we think this will last us a while if we use it just for coughs. I also love the hand and cuticle lotion that's available -- $9 for a small tin that really lasts a long time. If you like tea, you probably like honey. Table sugar and agave are tasty and easy, but nothing is BEEtter than honey. Especially the kind you want to eat STRAIGHT out of the bottle. We popped in ABC before a walking tour I had planned in Asheville. At first glace I thought, OK this is kinda packed and touristy, I'm going to get my one jar and get out. Boy, was I wrong! These folks are passionate about their local honeys and honey related items. I spent 25 minutes tasting, looking, tasting again. Giving some to my honey standing next to me -- then back to browsing. If I wasn't careful, my "one jar and get out" plan was going to turn into "how the heck did I spend $100 on honey!?". In addition to things you can eat, they stock my favorite naked bee products which are occasionally difficult to find (unexpired). Yep, just annnnother thing in my basket.... I adored the sour wood, orange blossom and berry flavored honeys. Tough decisions were made (I had beer to buy, it's Asheville after all!) but I walked out with a few jars. You have to keep an eye out for this little gem. It is easy to miss as you are strolling in downtown Asheville. Not eye-catching from the outside, but just wait until you open the door! Filled with all sorts of honey and bee-themed gifts and treats, the Asheville Bee Charmer is a delight. We always go ahead and indulge at the tasting counter. Not only are the honeys delicious (this particular trip resulted in a newfound passion for their Blackerry Honey) but the "Honey Barista" is quite knowledgeable and it is always fun to learn more about the local Asheville honeys!! Side note: the Blackberry Honey I mentioned above was awesome. Recommended by the Barista, at first the blackberry was elusive. But just as you're about to give up, a wonderful blackberry essence fills your mouth. Seriously: PHENOMENAL. Another thing we also really like about the Asheville Bee Charmer in addition to the friendly staff (always happy to recommend other places to eat and shop - so much fun) is the unusual bottles. They accommodated all of my needs, gave me a replacement bottle that was even bigger than what I bought, and they gave me other free items. Every store has incidents and the fact that they did even more than making it right speaks volume! They truly care about their customer and all of their needs! Be careful of spending too much money on the higher end honeys with these guys. I bought some sourwood honey and it is not pure at all. Pretty sure they cut it with karo syrup or something because it is way too thin to be 100% honey. I bought Sour Wood from 4 different shops and 2 out of the 4 did the same thing. I LOVE this place. It had been years since my last visit but I was still dreaming about my tasty last visit to Asheville Bee Charmer. Why such fond memories? Well, the friendly staff, honey tasting bar with a variety of infusions and types of honey along with the beautiful layout of the space certainly don't hurt. Each section of the room displays a different honey and a variety of sizes and formats. You'll find everything from lotion and soaps to honey bottles and honey straws. Honey is one of my favorite souvenirs while traveling and Asheville Bee Charmer is filled to the rim with both local, regional and international honeys. This a cool store for people who are really into honey. There is a sub culture of honey enthusiasts. And this store caters to our needs starting with the honey bar. When we were there and employee was giving out free samples and she knew the background of each jar of honey. Impressive. There is an entire section of honey based skin care products too. Luckily the Asheville Bee Charmer is one step ahead of you. The store has a tasting bar that will gracefully walk you through each of the honeys present within the store and provide a brief background on where each are sourced.
