I was looking forward to visiting this store and it was all I was expecting and more! Cards, stickers, pins, games, trinkets and more. One child just couldn't handle all the cuteness, he yelled "I want it!" Then promptly had a nuclear-level meltdown. Same, kid, same. I feel you. I scooped up some miniature things, my friend had pens and notecards. Honestly, that kid's mom should have said, "Whist!" which in Irish or Scottish dialects means "Hush!" or "Shut it!" A gift shop with so much character! I don't know how they manage to jam so much amazing gift and art into their shop, but i love to go there to see it all, from wrapping paper to jewelry to books to cards. Perfect place for the quick gift, and the staff is fresh and will gladly help you locate that special thing you're looking for even if you don't know what you want. This is the most amazing gift shop I have ever been to. It's the gift shop of my dreams. I was visiting Asheville during the week of Thanksgiving and researched local gift shops before I visited. I knew I absolutely had to stop in after reading all the wonderful reviews. This store completely lived up to all my expectations. I had visited several other gift shops before visiting here and my sister agreed that this was clearly the best of all the shops we had visited. There is so much stuff to look at and there is a wonderful variety of items for just about everyone. Everything I looked at was reasonably priced. There was so much cute and unique stuff that I was amazed and wished there was a store like this where I live. They also have a nice selection of greeting cards. I especially loved the Japanese stuff. The Japanese make the cutest gifts and I wanted to take all of it home with me. I bought a cute Japanese die cut cat calendar, some nail art stickers and a little sushi toy. The woman and man who work there were so friendly and helpful. My review from seven years ago last detail, but same feelings going strong. I always feel like a princess when I get to park right outside and that happened today. They do have a little lot in the back they share. FYI. I feel like it's always the same two people in here when I go, and they're always amazing. Helpful and willing to answer questions, but not over bearing. They never seem annoyed even though it takes me like three hours to walk around and look at all the knickknacks. This is my go to spot for gifts. They have a lot of Asheville, and not in Asheville things for all of your loved ones. From stationary, embroidery packets, candles, jewelry, magnets, games, calendars and more, this place has it. The area they really seem to Shinin might be cards and prince. I've actually loved some card so much that I framed them and hung them up. They have something for everyone. Incredibly inclusive store as well. read more

We had a 10 minute wait for brunch at Early Girl Eatery so we came here while we waited. It's fortunate that our table was ready early because in less than 10 minutes, the three of us had already decided to purchase $75 worth of stuff, and we are not typically loose with our money. This place is dangerous! So many cute cards, gifts, and books. We could easily spend an hour and hundreds of dollars and come out very satisfied. TLDR: stop in here for a local made gift! _____ I always like shopping local when I'm visiting a city and when Whist came up on my Yelp search, I knew this was the perfect place to drop in. They had games and decor, books and greeting cards. A ton of nicknacks in an extremely organized store. I ended up Getting cards and locally made jewelry. The cards were super fun and my gal friend loved it. The owner was so nice and sweet. She lead me in the direction of some locally made jams at a pop up shop happening not too far away. It helps give me a barometer of what the art and culture scene is like in that city. Seeing the work of crafters and artists really helps me identify the vibe of a city! As others have said, give yourself a couple of laps in this shop. There are lots of little things to look at and enjoy. Like fun greeting cards, journals, crafty sets, puzzles and games, home decor, cute patches, lovely and unique jewelry, etc etc. The clerk in the shop was very friendly and warm as we chatted with her about our travels and where we had come from. I LOVE Whist. Upon entering, we were immediately acknowledged and kindly greeted by one of the owners. The place is super spacious and easy to maneuver, say, if you have a stroller. Placement of breakable items thoughtfully placed out-of-reach of little one's hands, for the most part, so that's appreciated. So many things to see! Lots and lots of cool items for young(er) children. An exceptionally cool selection of children's books, mugs, and of course paper goods. Plenty of parking options. Cannot wait to go back! read more

I can't believe it took me so long to visit this cute little shop! Then again, it probably saved me a lot of money because this shop is right up my alley. They sell everything from cards, posters, cool kitchen gadgets, trendy jewelry, and tons of unique knick knacks. The store itself is very bright and welcoming. Great spot for locally-made gifts, souvenirs, and trinkets! The store has a very home-y and welcoming ambiance and shopkeeper is very friendly as well. When you enter, you feel like you're descending into a hometown version of PaperSource or similar stationary store. I'd recommend in particular to check out the posters and decorative papers, with a variety of great vintage designs for only $4 (world map, national parks, skeletal system, moon phases etc)! I work close to this store, and especially wanted to write a review because I've had the exact opposite customer service experience from the first reviewer--- The owners are incredibly sweet and helpful, and every time I have been in their shop, they've greeted each shopper warmly, and made sure that everyone can find what they're looking for. They have a wonderful selection, and great aesthetic taste, which is obvious based on the products they carry. I agree with other reviewer that Whist is a great resource for out-of-the-box gifts and cards and I am, in that sense, a big fan.
