I'm so use to the malls in Orlando where they are PACKED with people before the stores actually open. This mall was the opposite!! No crowds, very nice, clean friendly staff in all the stores I went into and of course the food court (I'm always looking for a quick snack). They have all the major stores plus specialty shops. Nice variety of shop you'll be able to find something for anyone no matter what your budget is. read more

GOOD STORE SELECTION! This mall has a good variety of stores, and is mostly full unlike many dying malls. This mall does lack charm on the inside. This isn't the type of mall I could browse and walk around in to kill time. It's one long hallway, not a circle you can walk around in. Nice size mall. Sad one section closed down. They do great job with holiday decorations. Christmas and Easter. Fun seeing kids getting pixs with Santa and Easter bunny. Stores their are nice. Food court and other treats pretzels and cookies etc...are nice treat. Staff always helpful. Hallmark Barnes and Noble and Belk my favorites. Like Dillard's but more pricey. Ohhh, the Asheville Mall. I have been coming here since I moved here 12 years ago and although it really is nothing special, it is a mall with stores and food and a parking lot with a great view of the mountains, so I think it's worth 4 stars... My favorite businesses in the Asheville mall include: H&M, JCPenney, Earth Bound, Spencers, Ulta, Barnes & Nobles, Torrid and Boxlunch. They also get some great mall points for having The Döner in the food court. Incredible, local business with great food and beer that you can drink there. Pretty cool. The mall is a great place to people watch and to take walks when the weather is bad. read more

Malls are on the way out, but the Asheville Mall maybe hasn't quite caught that trend. There was considerable foot traffic today, much of the parking deck was full and I saw quite a few people with shopping bags. We're not dead yet. There are a couple of "coming soon" storefronts here and they haven't gotten quite as many cell phone repair kiosks as other more vacant malls have. There's a free wifi and a packed food court. Frankly, this review could apply to almost any large mall in the U.S. right now. Many stores are closing and the pandemic is just making things worse. We were in town and stopped by on a Saturday night to grab a bite at The Doner kebab place and to look around. I didn't notice and particularly unique stores and the layout was odd, at one point it seemed we circled back on ourselves. At least the food court was busy and seemed to attract many families. Anyway, we enjoyed our meal and bought a book at Barnes & Noble. Otherwise, nothing else really appealed to us. read more

Thankful that the mall is open. New time during COVID which mall closes at 7pm. All stores are open and have sanitizer. Food court is fully functional and socially distanced. Great to just get out and walk, grab a coffee and shop!! read more

For the cool town that Asheville is, the mall doesn't reflect it. It is dark and depressing inside and pretty behind the times. They still have carpeted flooring even after several floodings... Which means it's not just awful looking but also moldy. They don't have wifi. There is an amazing view of the mountains but absolutely ZERO outdoor seating! Not even a bench for elderly people to sit at. In such an outdoorsy town I don't understand why people have to use the sidewalk to sit on outside?!? They should have picnic tables outside of the food court or at least seating outside one of the restaurants. The food court is very disappointing, there are two spaces that have been empty for over a year. Don't waste your time eating at the mall, just head a few minutes downtown for an awesome array of non chain restaurants. The fire alarm goes off so often that no one reacts to it anymore. Seriously, parents with their children will keep sitting in the food court eating or trying on clothes in stores while the fire alarm is blasting. It's got to be a safety issue when there are constant fire alarms and no one knows which ones are real... Speaking of safety, the mall is so concerned with staying open to make money they don't care about their patrons or employees. They stay open during severe ice/snow storms and fine stores for closing early to let their underage employees leave early due to weather conditions. There was also an emergency situation with a gunman who hid out in the mall from police. The news reported the mall was on lock down but the mall did not have any sort of emergency procedures in place to protect their customers or employees. Plus mall employees weren't even aware of the lock down and kept their stores open! Months later mall management is finally setting up an emergency text system. My favorite stores are H&M (coming soon), Ulta and PacSun. There's no longer an A&F and Aerie is closing soon. I hate to be so negative but there is sooo much more to Asheville than the mall. If you are visiting, check out downtown, the River Arts District or West Asheville first! Or just wait for the Asheville Outlets to open :) read more

I like the lay out of this mall for the most part but it's practically empty. It still has the main stores most malls have but 1/4-1/3 of the stores are empty. Every time I visit there is at least one more store vacated and no new additions except for the cosmetic kiosks that approach you and practically run you down as you pass and no matter how many times you say no and keep walking they just talk over you and keep talking. I don't want to have to outrun salespeople of items I have no interest in when I go to the mall to buy a book or candle or whatever brings me in that particular day. Mall management, security, or Asheville PD needs to be more diligent in keeping the homeless and vagrants from harassing patrons for spare change both in the mall itself and the parking lot. I can't remember the last time I was at this mall and not solicited for a hand out that's why I typically go to Johnson City or Hickory is I feel the need to shop at a mall when in the area. read more

I am so sad this mall has declined so much. I remember waay back in the day, when Uptons was there- anyone go that far back? Lerners, Eddie Bauer, Gap, and the Sears was so nice, before Sears got out of touch with that consumers actually want. It was so good, they had practically 100% stores filled. We would look fwd to shopping there on our way to Gatlinburg. But now, it is so sad...and unsafe feeling. I think that the trend is for all indoor malls to start closing, and that is tragic. I don't like to shop online all the time, you can't try on things, or see them in person. SO, I guess one day, they will level it...and something else be in its place. So very sad. read more

The layout is awful. You have to walk allover the place to get from one end to the other to get to the 3 stores you actually want to shop at! The bathrooms are disgusting!! I am mystified at the venom being spewed at of all places, a mall. I find them fascinating. One can study an environment's socioeconomic demographics with a few glances from the food court. From northern Jersey malls that stun with their size, to the strange "Rio Mall" outside of Wildwood, I have seen many. They are not in to some, but they are far from soulless. As a teen, malls were our mecca. Egos were developed there and so were relationships. My memories of "my" mall include headbangers giving Santa some choice body language, the back-back punk/hardcore store within an Asian furnishings store that I like-liked, and seeing my then-best-friend-now-husband searching for a Christmas present for his dad which is so tender in that it could have been the basis for a few lines in "Chesterfield King". Now I am older, and I have more needs than ever. A preteen and an eight-year-old emulating a preteen have made that so. Ulta for the ultimate. Barnes and Noble has books for my daughter, and the Starbucks has the fuel. Belk is bustling. Justice for the blinged-out brat, and Bath and Body Works for our souls. Hot Topic is for your older daughter when she decides to go goth. Claire's is clearly crowded. Yankee Candle better stay. The Children's Place has amazing prices when they have a sale. Sears has Lands' End. My H&M obsession is keeping that store open single-handedly. Bathrooms are as clean as they can get. If you see horror, it is due to your fellow patrons, not a lack of caring from employees. I never sense a quiet bathroom in this mall. I recently discovered bathrooms almost across from H&M down a long, darkened alley. The woman I passed in this alley victimized the toilet, so even the hidden ones are being desecrated. You can get three different types of massages in this mall: one by chair, one by humans, and one by a human trying to sell a massaging instrument. Kids love the chair. The massaging men near Yankee have a strong, kind energy. A choice joke by me in reference to massaging items being sold by aggressive yet peppy salespeople has made the marketing of said items obsolete in this mall's openish areas. The candy/trinket machines will break your kid's heart, and thus yours. They will take her patiently hoarded quarters, and give nothing in return. This has happened numerous times. A hard lesson will finally be learned. The food court has great cheesesteaks at Charlie's, Chick fil A has a B in antibiotics, and the Asian food is much coveted. Pass the pizza. The play area is loud. The samples are free. Recent experiences at this mall include a hand-holding couple who only let go when bathrooms separated them, errant toddlers with privileged parents, and what I have monikered "The Great Cocoa Catastrophe of 2015", in which a mall patron denied reality and left me questioning it. I did just realize from reading previous reviews that some of the eeriness of this mall is due to the mentioned carpet muffling the whole joint. Not only do I trip upon entering when stiff, new sneakers are worn, but I do not hear the relaxing sounds of fountains, echoes from toddlers, or teenage guffaws. That's O.K-. I need stuff. Fascinating living fossil of a mall, substantively untouched since (at least) the mid 1980's. I expect, in another 10-15 years, this very mall is going to be all the retro rage, so I hope they don't tear it down prematurely, before it gets its day in the sun. To wit: Look at how rare and special midcentury modern architecture became after it started getting torn down. Look what Mad Men did to men's fashion. Look how bell bottoms made a comeback. People make jokes about the Asheville mall now. About how inadequate it is, how creepy, how busted the architecture, how dingy, empty, almost haunted, it feels inside. Someday, though, dingy-and-haunted will be the new midcentury modern, the new bell bottoms, the new Mad Men. It's only a matter of patience and endurance. Time is a flat circle. read more

IF YOU MUST VISIT THIS MALL... This mall is located in an older depressed area. It was built in 1972 and it is evident that it has never undergone a renovation on any kind. It has a parking structure that is oddly designed and dangerous because it has poor directional signs. It was sort of like driving on the wrong side of the road and just praying not to encounter on-coming traffic. Avoid the parking structure, it is just creepy! If you must enter the mall you will want to avoid the escalator area that leads into the food court as it is FILTHY! They have literally given up and not even trying to clean this area. It was really disgusting. The sinks in the mall bathrooms were rusted and I don't know how the condition of this mall is acceptable to managers. If you have to shop here, you may want to stick with the anchors, entering and leaving directly from their stores and using their restrooms which are definitely going to be better maintained. We enjoy going to the mall- mainly Build A Bear, the bookstore, Belk... The last 2 times we have gone, we have witnessed two altercations (curse words being screamed across the mall by Build A Bear on 03/06/19, and two women nearly physically brawling screaming profanity in front of Bath and Body Works a few weeks back). Both times, my 7 year old daughter was present with us and there were no police officers or security to be found. Employees of the surrounding stores were watching and no one called for assistance. The lack of security is baffling, especially after recent events. We have lived near the mall in Charleston and the Mall of Georgia before moving here, and the youth were controlled. There was a sense of safety via security presence. If you care about your mall continuing to thrive in an economy where I can just easily shop safely from home with free delivery options, I would invest a bit more in security and taking care of the families in the mall, rather than prioritizing unsupervised teens. For all of the local businesses and funkiness that Asheville has to offer, the mall is exceedingly subpar. It hasn't undergone serious renovations (outside of stores coming and going) in many years and is in bad need of updating. Recently there has been a high turnover rate with stores, and with the new Asheville Outlets opening soon I imagine the mall is feeling a squeeze. Malls are generally built with the consumer in mind, keeping the customer engaged and trying to urge the impulse buy. The way a mall is crafted is carefully thought out and executed - Asheville Mall does not have this effect. The mall is an awkward L shape that is not conducive to lazy meandering and wandering into shops. There are generally open kiosks, and one of the main entrances by Barnes and Noble is simply open, empty spaces. Their are a fair number of facilities, but the restrooms haven't been updated in recent years. The food court is small, only offering a handful of places to eat. The kids play area in the middle of the court makes any experience a loud one. Asheville Mall could be worse, but it could also do a lot better. read more

Say what you will about The Asheville Mall, it provides a highly valuable service to our community. We love to buy local and support local, but there are some things that one just needs from a mall. The Asheville Mall is your one stop shop for high end cosmetics, sweet kicks, and pretty okay food that has been enhanced by the gentle warmth of a steam pan. It may not have a Bloomingdales, a Nordstrom, or even a Macy's. But it has a Belk. It's also a sign of Asheville's progress that H&M recently opened a fantastically large store here. Let's hear it for the Ikea of clothes! There's also Hot Topic, which smells exactly like every other Hot Topic in America. That weird teenage bubble gum/acrylic scent that wafts through the doors into the corridors. I think the biggest draw back about our currently humble mall are the floors. All of the hallways are carpeted. When I think of big fancy malls, I think about tiles, marble, polished concrete... there's that cacophonous echo that lends some sort of excitement to the shopping experience which the Asheville mall is missing. In an era where malls across the country are closing each month, I'm happy that our humble little mall is sticking to it. Will I shop here regularly? Probably not, but the fact that it's here gives me comfort. read more

This is a review for the Asheville Mall in Asheville, NC. This Mall has seriously declined in popularity over the years. Fifteen years ago, this was a very popular Mall. There were actually nice stores and the Mall thrived. Now, the Mall is practically turning into the doomed Biltmore Square Mall, which is now the very popular Asheville Outlets. When I was a kid, I couldn't think of anything more exciting then going to the Asheville Mall and going to the Disney Store, K.B. Toys, B. Dalton, F.Y.E., and Pet Luv. This Mall used to have so many stores and so many have closed since then. The Mall does have some highlights. It has a Belk, Dillard's, H&M, Ulta and a Barnes and Noble (Which wasn't in the Mall fifteen years ago). This Mall definitely screams 1980's. Most of the Mall has carpet flooring, excluding larger stores and department stores. Most would expect some tile at least compared to many other Malls. The Asheville Outlets is truly Luxury compared to this Mall. I wouldn't be surprised if the Asheville Outlets wiped out this Mall within the next ten years, as it is big competition. If you want to go on a shopping spree, I would recommend The Asheville Outlets or driving to a different city. This Mall just isn't what it used to be. read more

This mall is a basic mall. There is large H&M, Gap, and Ulta which some malls do not have. Everything else is pretty standard. Food court has traditional options- chicken teriyaki joints, cookie place, fast food, etc. The mall was pretty clean and parking was plentiful and spacious. read more

Asheville Mall could definitely use some improvements and renovations. It had many parts of it under construction, so maybe they are working on it. Many parts of the mall floor didn't exist, so people were walking on solid concrete. Other parts of the mall were also no very well lit and the mall layout is not very good as well, a little confusing to get around. Otherwise, the mall seemed to have all the big box stores that you would find at any typical mall. If you're interested in local shops, downtown is a much better bet. You can definitely tell that Asheville mall is not the main attraction when visiting. read more

We needed to find something for our sons birthday, so knew a few places at the mall we could count on. Since it was dinner time , we opted to eat at the Food Courts , The Doner which specializes in kabobs, etc... this is the second time we've chosen this place, since it offers a healthy menu. Now I remember why we haven't been back. I ordered the chicken wrap with cucumbers, tomatoes and cabbage, with garlic sauce. My husband had the wrap with lamb. I tried to cut my in half but the wrap was so tough, I had to rip it apart. The chicken was so dry and it was just fried so that I could barely eat it. To say the least, it wasn't worth the $10! I remembered as I was trying to eat the wrap, that this is what it was like before. Somehow they need to make some changes. This is the only "healthy " option at the food court! read more

This mall is a waste of time and money. As a transplant from Pittsburgh, I save my time and money to go shopping in other towns or online. This mall is outdated and rundown. The only stores that appear to keep a fresh look are Old navy, Hallmark, Bath and Body works and Barns and Noble. The Children's play are is filthy and disgusting it needs replaced. I hate walking past all the kiosks with the sales people harassing me to look at their products. I can clearly see you all eating candy, straightening hair, smoking ecigaeretts and giving massages. The layout of this mall frightens me. One wrong turn and you're walking an eternity to the food court. I felt like I was in one of those "choose your own adventure" books and I chose wrong going toward the food court from the B&N entrance. It was like miles away and the only good fast food option was Chickfila and it was Sunday...sob. Stores are pretty basic ...nothing too exciting. They have bungee jump thing and that seems entertaining to watch. Barnes & Noble is huge, so that's nice if you're into corporate bookstores. Parking not fun.... read more
