Sometimes I could use a 1/2 star rating. I'd give this a 3.5/5 instead of 3/5. We arrived for an October morning full of all things fall. It's a good thing we decided to get there when they open because when we left around 1130, the line was very, very long! We got in line for donuts. They were pretty ready. I was put off by a female employee who was smoking while working. She lit it up after walking out of a door nearby. She had the cigarette in the palm of her hand holding it with her pointer finger and thumb. That was not cool in my book. We waited in line for a wagon to take us to the pumpkin field. We waited not too long for that. While waiting so walked into the nursery area to look at all the flowers... mostly mums. Pricing was fairly reasonable. We finally got on the wagon. It was actually a pretty good ride to the field. We were dropped off and have free reign of the field. We could stay as long as we would like. Then we take a wagon back when we were ready. There was some confusion or lack of communication on how picking and paying for pumpkins went. We thought we would pay by weight and not the whole, "pay a set rate for as many as you can hold while taking 3 steps." A staff member was very kind to us when we returned. We were about to go back out and get more pumpkins to make it worth our trip. There was also confusion on entering the kids play area. We had tickets online, but did not realize we needed to go I see the gift shop to get the wrist bands. The ground in that area where the inflatables were, was really hard in the feet if you took your shoes off in order to play on/in the inflatables. We ended up telling our kids to keep their shoes in to avoid an injury's. For us, this was a one and done. read more

It's like COVID-19 and health codes don't exist at Ashland Berry Farm. When we drove in, the guy working the lot told us "there might be spots." Which is a weird but okay. We should've taken this as a sign There's no signage telling you where you're going so we just stood in a very long line. No social distancing in line, half of the patrons not wearing masks. Great. None of the employees handling food were wearing masks or gloves. I saw someone making cotton candy with her barehands and no mask. Only one person working had gloves on but I saw her re-sanitize her gloves and touch her mouth. That's gross on a regular day. We decided to leave but went into the store for some farm-made goods. It was a nightmare. None of the food is made there, including the jams with their name on it. No employees wore masks, everyone stood close and most of the customers weren't wearing masks. At one point, my group was the only group wearing masks INDOORS and I was starting to feel like I was insane. read more

Pros: We went on 10/23/2021 1 - We went to the Whispering Walls 3D hunted house and it was pretty DOPE. Neon light all on walls a few people to scare you if your not paying attention. 2- Ladies out there working the concessions really keep the lines moving. There was a lady out there with a bonnet and apron out there making sure my hotdogs was blackened to my liking (Thank you). 3- Parking was easy; I saw someone pull out and we pulled right in their spot. 4- For hunts/ food where priced fairly for the value. Cons: 1 - Parking: The employees did the best they could to direct traffic but, some folks don't listen. 2- The lines to get it was long as heck and moved rather slowly. Their website states bring cash but, when you got there there was no sign to state what line you should be in. If John Taffer came to visit, he would make your whole staff cry. Half your team was underage with no emotion or skills necessary for guiding this many people during the fall. The others seemed completely oblivious to what was happening around them. A day at your farm: Starts with 7 lines of people after you park. No one knows why they're standing where they are. Why do I say that? Because I asked four people about the line in the store and three thought it was for the hayride and one thought it was for food. Eventually I got to the front to ask them myself and it was for the wristbands to the scare zone or kid section. Moving onto the pumpkin patch. The drivers just drove, so no complaints there. Fun drive to the field, and really great pick of pumpkins. We did the 25$ for all you can carry. This is where the fun ended. Food booth was an absolute nightmare. I bet you would have more fun in a war zone. They had no idea what we ordered. There was one dude holding it all together. Picking up the slack from others. We got apple cider 23 minutes after ordering. Our donuts.... The wrong ones 5 minutes after that. You know what, I'm tired of writing this. Not worth it. Just go get pumpkins. Too worried about cramming as many people as possible in before close. People working trail were pissed because lines were backed up. They couldn't do their jobs. Went with a small group of people for my birthday on Opening night. We got there early to get our tickets before they sold out and were told to make sure we got cake back before 10 because they lock the gate. We paid for 4 haunts and got they around 9 to start. We were only able to do 2 of the haunts because when we went to the other haunts they had closed and said that staff went home! My biggest complaint is that when I went to the manager to ask if we could be refunded, he was SO rude! He stated "Yea well that's too bad, welcome to opening night!" Then proceeded to look down at his cell phone. Horrible customer service and unprofessional. He already had a black eye so I'm sure I wasn't the first person he's been rude to. I don't know what to say, I was disappointed and embarrassed for taking my family here. Walking in there were people everywhere, lines everywhere. First timers to the farm. It was so busy (over maximum capacity no doubt). We had no idea where to go, so it would make sense to go through the entrance. A shack in shambles, and another long line, I ask the young lady if this was the line to buy the unlimited passes, finally a start to the madness. Standing in line I'm looking around at what's for sale candy, Knick knacks, Halloween decor, jellies etc... a lot of these items had obviously been there for years, covered in dust, dirty, outdated and over priced. Once we got to the front I told her it was our first time here and if we had to get arm bands for unlimited everything, yep. She's explaining to me that the 3D boo house isn't scary, I said no worries mine are older and I pointed to them. My 16 year old daughter, her 16 year old 6ft tall boyfriend and my 14 year old son (he's no little thing either). She laughed oh yeah they'll be fine. At that moment I should have been told that the arm bands would've been useless ($30) WHY? Because there was absolutely NOTHING for them. Granted most pumpkin places are geared to the little ones, but there is usually something to keep the older ones occupied for a couple hours. Bounce house, hay barrel maze, tractor ride to the pumpkin patch furthest away, that's it. Mud was everywhere. The good decision I made that morning was to eat before we got there. There was one shambled shack (yep another one) that supplied a few food items with a mile long line. I counted only four, yes four picnic tables to eat at. The website mentioned fresh baked donuts, who wouldn't want that?? I could smell them when we first came in, but couldn't find them. Maybe that was a good thing. There was nowhere to sit and just relax, there was no atmosphere to relax in but that's beside the point. My hubby and I left the kids to roam the overcrowded, muddy grounds to try the Isley Brewery that was there. It was located outside of the exit. They had three beers to choose from a pumpkin ale, gose something and another one. We ordered two different beers to try. Once again (surprise) there's nowhere to sit, standing only. The beers I didn't like, that's not the brewery's fault, I just didn't like what they had to offer. Did I mention the yellow jackets?? Everywhere!! Literally, flying in my beer, in your face, over the trash, EVERYWHERE! This trip was part of my sons birthday, I still want to cry because I feel so terrible. I will take them to The Sneads Farm to make up for it. Ashland Farm is so run down, uncared for, unkept, no pride taken in their farm. Overcrowded, dirty, boring, no place to sit, no more than one shack to choose for food, overly long lines and filled way beyond max capacity. Tear it down and start again. Belvedere Plantation doesn't have anything really for the older kids, but mine would've rather went there for sure. Save the drive, time and money. read more

Our families, including a 2.5 and 5 year old and four adults, visited ABF to pick pumpkins Saturday, Oct 15th, around 3 in the afternoon. We spent the majority of the day waiting in lines - a parking line, a hayride to the field line, and a hayride back to the farm line - for a total of almost three hours of standing in line. The farm entrance was mostly dirt and rocks and litter, including cigarette butts, that I had to constantly remind my son not to pick up. The pumpkin patch was trampled and there were wooden stakes here and there, so I had to reroute my toddler constantly as he stumbled and fell around the field (to be expected), so he didn't face plant on a wooden stake. The process of paying for the pumpkins was chaotic. A girl was yelling 'pay here', but after waiting our turn, we were told credit sales were in the store. When our friends, who had cash, asked for the price of the pumpkins individually vs the all you can carry for $20, she said we would have to inquire about individual cost in the store as well. We thought about trying the hay maze, but it was a mess and it cost $4, which also had to be paid in the store, so we skipped it. There was a concession stand, but it was crowded and busy, so I couldn't see what they were selling or the cost. There was also what looked like a small bonfire, but it wasn't lit, so I'm guessing that was for the haunted attraction. I did see the 'store' area on the way out, but by that time I was exhausted and ready to go, so we didn't go inside. I think there might have been a spooky kids attraction, but I'm not sure. I've visited this farm since I was a child and I feel the farm has completely shifted the focus from being a family friendly pumpkin patch to an expensive haunted attraction. There used to be grassy fields, lush pumpkin patches, bonfires and roasted marshmallows (though that may have been a special boy scout event), free children's activities and awesome, friendly employees. IMHO, it is now overcrowded, overpriced, chaotic, unpleasant, unfriendly and not much fun for the adults or children. We plan to visit other pumpkin patches in the area. This place was super busy. Little to no social distancing although they had signs up everywhere encouraging it. A lot of the patrons wore masks but not all the employees did. No social distancing on the hayrides and shared condiments at the food stand. The pumpkin patches had an amazing selection and they were beautiful. Things were a little hectic getting off the hayride and paying but doable. We didn't see any of the other activities advertised... I went here for my 13th birthday (Now 28) and as I couldn't have left a review before I guess now is the time. We went for their Halloween Trail and within the first 20 minutes of the trail a man with a chainsaw came too close to me and my hair was sucked into the motor fan of the chainsaw. I went on for about 5 minutes with an entire chainsaw attached to my head through the trail. The horror was now my reality. Strobe lights were flashing and no one could see what was really going on. If it wasn't for the couple in front of me that turned around to look and then grabbed everyone that was coming out to scare us to assist in helping me I'm not sure what would've happened. I had to have my hair cut with a pocketknife on my birthday because of just pure negligence. Still to this day I cannot hear a chainsaw without cringing. This has been definitely a moment in my life that I have had ptsd from. Please do not go in their haunted hunt- If you do wear a hood because space isn't something that's considered. I worked there for almost 2 weeks when I went to pick up my paycheck the woman who works payroll screamed at me and told me she wasn't giving me my check and when the owner came in and told her she was wrong she proceed to scream at the owner . The owner gave me my check after she stormed out of the office . The structures in the woods are extremely old and out of code as on 10/24/2019 one of the doors fell and hit a costumer In the head or on my first night working a chain fell and hit me in my face and busted my lip and put bruises on my face . We drove 40 minutes to their pumpkin patch instead of choosing closer ones because of the variety of children's activities advertised as being open on October 3rd. Unfortunately those things were not open. Simply updating their website would have been appropriate. It is really frustrating to make two young children wait on a long car ride with the promise of a bounce house and a petting zoo and then not be able to deliver on that promise. Otherwise the fields are lovely. The tractor rides are fun. It is nice that they have a snack bar. They had a fun spooky haunted house and a nice little shop. I was inspired to write this review after going to an inferior pumpkin picking location north of Atlanta where I currently live. Ashland Berry Farm has spoiled me for fall, for life. I grew up on this place - we'd go pick pumpkins every year in the fall, and I know I've been strawberry picking in the summertime at least once. I remember when you could see a big strawberry on that landmark silo - it's now totally covered with ivy (at least the last time I saw it). How pumpkin picking works here: you take a nice long hayride out to the pumpkin fields and then look around for your perfect pumpkin, and take it back to the main farm. The disadvantage to allowing customers to access the fields is that sometimes they are much picked over, and the pickins can be slim. But it is so much more fun than selecting a pumpkin out of a pile - you can do that at the grocery store. There is an "all you can carry" option for payment - load yourself up and then walk a certain marked distance with the pumpkins for one price. That's only the beginning - there are also lots and lots of FUN fall activities. There's a store that sells Halloween and Xmas stuff, a haunted house, a hay obstacle course, a hay maze with a trampoline in the middle, a zipline, horses for kids to take short rides on... Some of the stuff is geared towards kids, but it's really appropriate for any age. I think even more goes on at night, too. And the food's good too - you can buy hot dogs to roast over a fire, and yummy cake donuts. Fall is beautiful in this part of Virginia. If you're anywhere near by, you should definitely go. read more

If you're looking for a "real" pumpkin picking experience, I totally recommend Ashland Berry Farms. There is another farm with a similar name to the South that is very geared towards kids/families and entertainment value. When I go pumpkin picking, I want to take it off the vine and don't need the extra entertainment. Just the thrill of finding the perfect pumpkin is enough for me! If you're going pumpkin picking on a weekend in October, expect it to be busy. Don't set yourself up for disappointment -- you're going to wait in line. Take silly pictures in the cut-outs while you wait, admire the mums, or send one of your parties to the food line and get hot apple cider and freshly made donuts. There's no fee for taking the tractor ride to the pumpkin field, they let you off in the field they're picking and you have free reign to find the perfect pumpkin. I went with two friends, and between the three of us, we brought back about 10 pumpkins. No limits on what you can pick, and other than the ones others have rejected, they're all still on the vine! My friend with the biggest wing span held all of our pumpkins and shuffled three steps and we only had to pay $20. We also found some pretty mums for my front porch - 3 6" mums for $10. We've been going for the past five years and always enjoy it. I totally recommend it for a family fun time, without the extra money and distractions of its Southern cousin... read more

There is absolutely no enforcement of any COVID precautions they claim to have. We were assured that the cast members would keep their distance but they definitely did not do that. We even had a staff member tell us that we did not have to wear "those silly things" (our masks). This was a terrible experience overall. I have only visited ABF twice, both for pumpkin picking only, so my review is based solely on that. The mistake we made this year was arriving early on Oct 15th. Our previous trip had been closer to 3pm and we had no issues with lines or waiting. But on this occasion, we arrived around 11am, and spent most of our day in lines: about 45 min to even get on the hayride to the patch, another 20+ min to return, a line for the donuts (but seriously, these are worth it; don't think, just get the dozen!). Besides the line, I feel like its a good place to get pumpkins. Its all you can carry for $20. We were able to get 6-7 pumpkins. I wish they had a better deal on the gourds or specialty pumpkins, but it really isn't a big deal. They also advertised a petting zoo or some other children's activities, but I honestly never saw where to go, and no one was at the shed selling tickets, so we just forwent that activity. The $20 deal always gets up, because its such a good deal, just wish there was a little more. And go later in the day. :) read more

Great pumpkin patch for the fall. Just be sure to go a week before Halloween like I did (!) Everything was pretty much picked over. We did not have fun. I love farms, especially pick your own farms, so it kills me to give such a bad review, but this place is a mess. It suffers from several problems, not the least of which are a lack of clear signage and identifiable employees. We had never been before, and when we arrived Sunday afternoon, the place was hopping. There was a huge line that came all the way to the parking lot, which we assumed was to get in as there was - point number one - no signage. We would find out within a few minutes that there were multiple lines for various activities/sales, but nothing was marked at all. Another customer ended up telling us the line was for the hayride, which we weren't interested in, so we got out and started wandering around to try to find the actual pumpkin patch, since that was what we were there for. I would also note here that everything was SMASHED together - it would be so much easier to navigate if the different attractions were spaced out more. After several minutes trying to figure out what all the lines were actually for, and looking in vain for someone who worked there who could tell us where to go for what we wanted to do - PICK PUMPKINS - we spotted the pumpkin patch in the distance. We noted that there was no one walking to it, so we stopped a family with a wheelbarrow full of pumpkins to ask how we got to the patch. Turns out, you HAVE to take the hayride to get there. We did not end up doing that. It wasn't about the line, which was ridiculously long; in fact, my husband has social anxiety and claustrophobia, and while he was managing the large crowd OK just walking around, there was no way he was going to get on a hayride we didn't even want to take with dozens of other people to get to the patch. I can't understand why just WALKING wasn't an option. So we decided to look at the country store, which was a huge letdown. The thing was full of nothing but junk - overpriced junk at that, and poorly displayed. There were pumpkins for sale outside the store, but they were terribly overpriced and by that point, we were so disenchanted we decided it was time to leave. The only other thing I can add is that we did, in trying to find an employee (again, never did - only ones we saw were the parking attendants) we wandered into the pond store. I was really excited for a moment, because I'm a huge water gardening enthusiast and I didn't realize they had a center for it there. I was really disappointed here as well - the fish looked terrified, the lighting over them wasn't on, the water in the tanks was pretty gross, and there were no pond plants whatsoever. My first time experience with the Scream pass of Ashland Berry Farm was absolutely ridiculous. First off, when driving in and being guided to park the man guiding my vehicle led my car to park right on top of a glass bottle. After this, when buying the tickets the lady that was at the register was not polite and did not even let my group and I know that we would literally only be able to do one of their attractions. She basically scammed us and told us after our purchase that there would be no refunds. During the first attractions the woods, I had an experience with one of their employees there to "trick" us. The lady's job is apparently to lie and tell the group they are going the wrong way; however, they are not supposed to touch the customers and while heading towards the right path the lady had literally pressed herself against me. This made me really believe I was not heading where I was supposed to and my group head the opposite way only to realize that there is literally nowhere else to go but through there. When heading back inside the lady was literally pushing my group and I towards the exit. This prolonged our experience longer than it should have. Honestly my experience with scream forest was much better than with this company's and I will not be coming back since I completely wasted my money. read more

Disappointing. We took our 8 and 10 year old girls here last weekend. We are new to the area and looking for pumpkins and fall fun. We didn't find fun here. There was a long line for wagon rides to pick your own pumpkin, but it took us a long while to find out just what the line was for. Chaos and unfriendliness ruled. The signs were not helpful - how is "Fort Pumpkin" a corn maze? I had to talk to a lot of the employees to find out just what was what and what was going on; signage was nonexistent. The employees seemed unhappy to be there, and I certainly wouldn't call the place family friendly. We had mediocre hotdogs and were bombarded by bees. The biggest downside, in my opinion, was the lack of indoor restrooms. The only option was port-a-potties in the parking lot. They were relatively clean, but still, the opposite of fun with young kids. We stayed less than an hour and will never go back. read more

My boyfriend and I went to Ashland berry farm for terror on the farm on Halloween, when we first went to pull in there was little to no room to park we got the last spot, and the traffic director was very rude to the other visitors that wanted to park. When we walked up the line was all the way to the middle of the parking lot with people not even a foot apart, WITH NO MASKS ON! After waiting in line for well over an hour, we bought tickets for all four trails, the first trail little kids that "worked" there were hitting people that were in line for the trail. When we told an adult worker she said that their grandpa owned the place so they can basically do whatever they want with no consequences. The next two trails we didn't have any problems other than having to wait in line almost an hour every time. Then we got to the last trail " Booger woods" we got on the hay ride and went down to the trail, another hour long wait, we got through the trail and back on the the hay ride when we got back to the main part of the farm we asked the tractor driver if we payed a little extra could he take us for a ride by ourselves since it was my birthday the next day, he was very nice and willing to take us for a ride, being that the farm was about to close and there wasn't a line, we then got rudely asked to get off when we tried to explain that he wanted to take us for a ride, the lady said very with a very rude tone "we don't do that here" and the other guy said "we have paying customers waiting" as if we hadn't payed, we got off the ride and I through my arms up by my side, the man then said to the woman that I had flicked her off, which was a lie so I told them I didn't flick anybody off, and I walked away when I turned back to see if my boyfriend was behind me the guy was running up to get to me, and pushed my boyfriend out of the way in doing so. When he got to me he stood maybe a foot away with no mask and put his flashlight in my face and said " you wanna try that again" I calmly said I didn't do anything, he asked if I had anymore tickets I replied with no and he rudely said good, I said Happy Halloween and went to go to the car to leave, I looked back again at my boyfriend and the man put his flashlight in my face again and said that's right I'm escorting you to your vehicle I politely said thank you I appreciate it. We would 10/10 not recommend, the staff is rude and inconsiderate and all they care about is their money, we will not go back. read more

There was a total of 12 of us that went this past Saturday night. We bought tickets for all 4 haunts which was a total of $360. I was really looking forward to this because I have not been in years. We all were really disappointed. We did get there early so we could avoid standing in line forever. None of the houses or the woods was scary at all. The majority of the time we were just walking through the houses or woods without anyone trying to scare us. I saw very few people working each attraction. This was a complete disappointment and I will not be going back next year. We wasted a lot of money and 6 people in our group left before finishing all 4 because they were so bad. I went to Ashland berry farms at night and it was so SCARY!!! The perfect Halloween festivity for adults who still enjoy being scared like a kid again. I only did the booger forest. This is not a activity for children and there were thankfully I saw no children participating. They take you out on a long hay ride through a dark field to an area by a fire where you stand and wait for your group to enter the experience. It starts out as a corn maze and then you go through a bunch of different enclosures. Weaving in and out of dark places, some straight up pitch black, some dimmed, some flashing strobe lights to where you can't see anything but flashes of creepy things. And it ends with a BANG!! (I won't give it away). The pumpkin/gourd selection is awesome. They also offer coffee, hot cider, fries, hot dogs, donuts, and some other things. The reason why I have to give it four stars is because he dons johns we're absolutely unbearable. There was pee everywhere. Also, the line to get in was around a 40 min wait. And the cash line had no one in it. They need to post something on their website about bringing cash. But the experience overall was like nothing I had ever done and I'm for sure going back next year. Love it!!! read more

Ashland Berry Farm is the absolute best at landscaping and hardscaping. We have had them do several projects at our new home and we will continue to use them in the near future. Ken is wonderful at designing & is a perfectionist! He is always accessible and really loves what he does! read more

I do not recommend this, the staff were pretty rude if you ask me! Go to chesterfield berry farm instead, It may not be that scary for the older kids, but for the younger ones it's great! Lots of activities! Love it! I am not impressed with Ashland! read more

Bee's everywhere while waiting in line to hop on the hay ride to the pumpkin fields, due to the overflowing trash cans and smell of doughnuts and ketchup... Yes, ketchup. Teen workers a rude and smart off when talking to almost anyone. It seems the customers are an irritant to them. I considered spending several thousand dollars on Landscaping products/design and services, but if they can't handle a simple hay ride I have no confidence they can handle a complex landscape project. We go every year because its awesome but after my experience last night I will not return. We waited in line from 9pm and finally at 11:20 we got our tickets. We went out to the booger woods first because there was no line. There were a total of nine people and two of them worked the fire pits, one in the beginning and one in the end. There were two guys that had to hold the steps up because they broke which was ridiculous, we crawled up to the steps and two guys who were out of costume was letting one person at a time walk up the steps to step and crawl down because the beam had broke and they had to hold the weight while we walked across the steps. then the rest of the time we only saw maybe five people who tried scaring us and three of those guys had chain saws. After that we went to the 3D one and the painting was cool but when we did finally find workers to scare us they were sitting down in the chairs talking to one another and the one girl with the no sleeves said "hey guys how's your night" ARE YOU SERIOUS..... The next one was the fright one and when I complained to the guy and girl sitting out front collecting tickets, they said yah we have been doing this all night so a lot are tired and "when you only make $7.25 and hour you start to not care" yes word for word. Then the last but not least we went to the final one and the girl was sitting out front told us to rip our tickets and put them in the bucket....... you cant do your JOB and do that your self. There was a total of three people in the whole haunt and I think that it was the same guy twice so it might have only been two people.. Probably the worst haunted place I've ever been. Coming from NC to VA and everyone talking about how scary this place is. Waste of time and money, I do not recommend it. By the way everyone in VA talks about it, it should have been the best haunted attraction but turned out to be the worst. read more
