Feb 14, 2025 I have been a patient of Dr. Beall's for almost 30 years. She is the most knowledgeable Doctor I know. She is patient, a great listener and really hears your concerns. My case was one of her most difficult ones, and she used her problem solver skills to get my condition under control to the point that I barely have any aches and pains. If anyone deserves an outstanding rating for her professionalism, bedside manner, listening and caring skills. She definitely deserves it. I recommend her to all my family and friends as well. I made an appointment at least 4 months in advance only to show up for my appointment to be told that my appointment has been cancelled. I never received any word. I needed that appointment prior to getting my covid vaccine and there isn't another opening before that happens. I'm very disappointed. I found Dr. Beall very helpful in the past. read more

I had to stop to write a review when I saw Dr Beall's relatively low rating. She deserves much better. Dr. Beall is considered to be a brilliant rheumatologist in metro DC. I saw this from the results I got as her patient, and also from the reaction of every other Dr here I've seen -- "you see DR BEALL? WOW!" Dr Beall does not behave like she's extraordinary or special. She's warm, she listens and explains things, and she always answered all the questions I brought in on a list. I went to see Dr Beall for several things that happened when I had to relocate mid-summer from the San Francisco area (moderate, comfortable humidity and temperature in summer) to Rockville. Within 2-3 weeks, I developed a full body rash with purple raised areas, and extreme swelling of my feet and ankles, as well as horrible pain in my feet at the joints where my toes attach. Dr. Beall did extremely thorough bloodwork and x-rayed my feet. The joints of all 10 toes had bone-on bone arthritis, and she gave me hydrocortisone shots for relief, but told me I could only have this done a few times because it damages the connective tissue. I would need surgery eventually. Over time, my feet became so painful that Dr Beall told me surgery was inevitable soon, and to drop by for hydrocortisone injections whenever I was suffering. My bloodwork did not indicate any illness or autoimmune disorder. Dr. Beall tried several drugs to eliminate the rash and had me see a dermatologist to biopsy it. This showed an autoimmune disorder that is usually secondary to lupus or another autoimmune problem, but I had no sign of those. My type was not dangerous, but other types can be fatal. When I didn't respond to standard treatments, she consulted with a Sr. colleague who looked at my chart, then looked at me, covered in red and purple except for my face, with shock. The two Drs looked at each other and simultaneously said the name of a powerful drug usually used to prevent rejection of a transplanted organ. Over time, the rash slowly went away, and the swelling in my ankles and feet did too. This was very important because one autoimmune disorder can beget others. When the rash went away, the arthritis stopped bothering me. I think that as she's become better known here, more patients needing her expertise have probably been directed to her. She's probably needed for patients who are very seriously ill (I don't mean I am in that group), and for cases that are very tricky to diagnose or treat effectively. I don't mean the reviewers seeing her PA don't need and deserve good treatment, but there are nightmarish autoimmune problems that can be fatal if not immediately diagnosed and treated appropriately, while other illnesses could be helped with more standard treatments. I'd suggest that Dr Beall is so busy not because of greed, but because there are so many people with problems that are difficult to identify or treat. Their previous rheumatologists may have sent them to see Dr. Beall. I've seen her when my problem only needed a fast check about medication, and she's needed to quickly move on. I think that next person needed her. I don't believe she thought I didn't matter. I've also found the office to be comfortable, and the staff to be helpful and pleasant. She really wants to help people, and has incredible talent in a very difficult specialty. read more

A friend of mine recommended Dr. Beall because her mom was seeing her for over 20 years. Although it's a drive for me, it's worth it! Dr. Beall listened to my concerns and even though my results came back normal, she validated me and made sure I was getting relief. If Dr. Beall isn't available, Jenny is always responsive and knowledgeable. I enjoy working with both of them and look forward to the continued care. read more

She cancelled and rescheduled my appointment three times within a couple of months. She basically took all referrals from PCPs and gave them to her PA. She doesn't show up for appointments even though she said she and the PA work together as a team . My primary doctor referred me to her and wanted me to see her, but she basically dumps all referrals to her PA. Like other reviews say, she is rushed and unfocused. With much hope, I saw Dr. Beall to treat lower extremity joint pain. She diagnosed me with RA due to family history and high WBC count in my knee. I never had an abnormal CRP or SED, but was prescribed a variety of meds over a 2 year period. None worked and I often had bad reactions to them. She refused to fulfill my request to get a more in depth look at hip through an MRI. I Learned later after getting my records that she had minimized MY REPORTED HIP pain. I ended up going to an orthopedic to treat my hip and was diagnosed with FAI- a hip impingement. Subsequent and needed surgery showed it was severe with a shredded labrum and bone on bone. Dr. Beall, in my medical records wrote, "the FAI still does not explain pain level reported by patient." I felt terribly dismissed. All I wanted was help from an expert. Today recovery is long (19 months now) and hard due to the extended period I went without proper diagnosis & treatment. I sensed she didn't believe me and even took my husband to appointments to verify the difficulty I was having. I regret that my experience with her was not better and wish she had the professionalism to listen, understand and not disregard my reported pain and refer me for proper treatment. Dr. Beall impressed me greatly. I believe she may be the best MD I've ever been to see...and my husband is a doctor. She asked all the right questions, I never felt rushed, I got to ask all my questions, and she prescribed a treatment that gave me considerable relief. She also gave me something additional, something I don't necessarily require, but appreciate - she validated my pain and expressed caring. I give Dr. Beall my highest rating! read more
