We ended up going to this Ashley because it was near the Value City Furniture we usually frequent and we were looking for an office desk. *military customers this is for you* We are new to the area and have purchased from other Ashley Furniture Homestores previously and got great deals. We went in today to purchase a sectional that we first saw at the NEX Home Gallery but Ashley had it listed cheaper online and we did not know that NEX price matches competitor prices until we went back a second time. So we went in to Ashley Furniture during tax free weekend and they were doing a promo of up to 30% off and they claim to offer a 10% military discount. After sitting down with a very nice salesperson and writing up the quote, we DID NOT get a military discount or their promotional offer and we also did not get tax free on tax free weekend... THIS WAS CRAP! We ended up walking out of there and going back to the NEX where we purchased the same sectional, used a scratch off, paid less for a furniture protection plan with the same benefits, and paid over $400 less than what Ashley Furniture in Chesapeake was trying to sell it to us for. The salesperson at Ashley told us that we would not get this item cheaper at NEX and we are very glad we did not listen. This store does not appreciate the military and will not give you the discount easily as it does not apply to most items in their store. Fair enough. However, the whole time he shadowed our every move. I found it really annoying especially since we said we were just looking. Ashley Furniture in Chesapeake is one of the more relatively high-end furniture stores I've been too. The pieces seem really nice if you are after a more traditional/contemporary look. (Disclaimer: I'm not one for the old-fashioned/conteporary look, but I don't hold that against them.) My desire for modern looking microfiber furniture left me wanting more. In that regard, I can't say the selection is perfect. If I was into the furniture that Ashley offered, I could see it being a great experience, but a more complete selection would have been nice. The staff seemed very kind and not overly pushy, something I find to be problematic when you walk into some furniture stores and have employees who refuse to leave you alone. The furniture on display seemed to be of relatively high quality, and that's perhaps the most important thing. PLEASE READ TO AVOID A HEADACHE WITH ASHLEY FURNITURE!!! If I could give zero stars, I would. I regret ever wasting my time with Ashley Furniture. I had ordered a sleeper sofa early June of 2021. Due to Covid we were advised that the delivery could take up to twelve weeks because of the impact of the pandemic on the manufacturer. We took the chance and waited twelve weeks for our couch to be delivered thinking that it would all be worth it in the end. I received a call for my delivery date scheduled for September 3rd 2021. The delivery team came to drop off my sofa, when we discovered that it had manufacturer defects. The fabric was coming off and the screws weren't tightened all the way and they were poking out, and one of the main support beams was warped and bent. I refused delivery because I was not going to be responsible for a defective and unsafe couch. So I contacted the warehouse and was advised that they can deliver another sleeper sofa of the same model two days later. So my new delivery date was scheduled for September 5th. The next day I get my confirmation for the new delivery date, but the address is incorrect. I called the warehouse to fix the address, to which a representative said "I'll go ahead and take care of it for you.". I got another confirmation on Sunday September 5th, notating my delivery window but the address is STILL incorrect. I called the warehouse again so they could fix it before my sofa was dropped off but no one answered and I was forced to leave a voicemail. I waited the whole day and nobody called me back and my couch was never delivered to me. So I called the warehouse again on Monday September 6th and spoke with a female about my situation and she advised me that the delivery was marked as complete. I told her it can't be complete because I didn't have my product. She answered back that in the confirmation photo that there was a mattress, side table, and some other items delivered. I told the representative that I ordered a sleeper sofa and no one had come by to deliver it, so those photos had to have come from a different delivery. She then scheduled me for another delivery for Friday, September 10th. I waited until Thursday September 9th to get my confirmation, which I never recieved. So I called the warehouse again on Friday the 10th to see what was going on. I spoke with a male representative and explained our situation to him. He advised me that our sale ticket had been voided, and he would have to speak with his supervisor and call us back. I waited until Monday the 13th and never got a call. So I called the Furniture store that we purchased the sofa from and asked to speak with the manager. Straight away we got sent to her voicemail and we never got a call back from her. At this point I am beyond frustrated so, on Tuesday the 14th I go to the furniture store in person to see what is going on. We spoke with the manager in person, told her everything that happened and she called the warehouse herself. The person she spoke with from the warehouse let her know that she would have to check in the back to see if she still had any of our model of sofa in stock and she will call us back since she didn't know how long it would take to "put her hands on it". So with nothing resolved, we left. We got a call about two hours later from the same gentleman I spoke with on Friday the 10th. He said that they unfortunately do not have the couch in stock anymore so they will have to reorder it from the manufacturer. Meaning that we would have to wait 12 weeks all over again. At this point I can't believe what is going on. I try calling the corporate number for customer service, to which the receptionist tells us that the number is only for ONLINE orders, and not in person orders and transfers us to the store where we ordered the sofa. I wait on hold for over 20 minutes to speak with the manager before hanging up. If we were supposed to have our couch delivered on Sunday September 5th, to which the delivery team never came, then where is the couch that was on that truck? Then on Wednesday September 15th, I get a call from the supervisor from the warehouse saying that they have the same model of couch that they can have it delivered on Friday September 17th. So I scheduled delivery for then, giving Ashley Furniture one last chance. The delivery comes on Friday, but with my luck, the sofa will not fit through the door due to the pull out bed in it. The delivery team did not want to risk damaging the bed inside the couch because of the flexible material. Because of this we refused delivery and decided we wanted our money back. At this point, I want no further business with Ashley Furniture, I want my money back. I called and let them know I want a FULL refund but the receptionist tells me that there is a 20% cancellation fee. Our salesperson was great. Very helpful and thoughtful. However, even though they said the furniture we purchased was in stock we still had to wait two weeks for delivery. AND when I went to reschedule my delivery date to today they never put it in the system and now I have to wait another WEEK to get my furniture. Their customer service people are TERRIBLE. NOT pleased with Ashley Furniture Chesapeake, VA . The customer service has not been good at all. I purchased an entertainment center back on August 29th. It was scheduled at that time to be delivered "assembled", which is how I ordered it with the sales associate Patricia on Thursday, November 5th since this was the first available delivery date in the system they had. Well it came on November 5th at 5:30pm, delivered by the contracted HDL delivery warehouse that Ashley Furniture uses for all of their deliveries. When it got delivered it was NOT assembled and had a note on the box that the "customer would assemble". NOT!!!! They had to take it back because it was supposed to be "ASSEMBLED" like I paid for. I called that evening to speak with a manager at Ashley Furniture Chesapeake to find out how this mix up happened and I was connected to the assistant store manager Ben. I explained to him what was going on and he said that he would not be working in the store that Friday, November 6th and asked me to call back to speak with the store manager Maria Lopez and that he would fill her in on the situation. Well I call back and Maria was supposed to be checking on the mix up to get resolved and she said that she would return my call, however she DID NOT. So, I waited a couple days and call back the next Monday, November 9th to speak with Ben the assistant store manager and the woman that answered advised that he was not in that day and to call back the next day. However, the woman did look in the system to reschedule my entertainment center to be redelivered on Thursday, November 18th. Well, I call back on that Tuesday, November 10th as the woman suggested to speak with Ben and I kept getting sent to voicemail quite a few times. But then Ben called back that day and advised that all he needed to do was send a quick email to the HDL delivery team and warehouse to confirm that this time my merchandise would come assembled like it should have been the first time. I asked him to send me an email to confirm for which he agreed he would but I never heard from him. I called again on yesterday, November 17th and got connected to a young lady that answered the phone sounding very nonchalant and not really motivated to assist me. I asked for the store manager Maria Lopez because I was told Ben was out. She keeps me on hold for a few minutes and then takes me off hold for which I then hear what sounds like the store manager in the background feeding the young lady what to tell me, which was basically that they had not rec'd a reply back from the HDL delivery team. I'm not even sure the email really was sent, but anyhow, they could not reassure me if my entertainment center would come assembled this time and would not know until the day of delivery. The customer service focus should be better than this. Please teach your employees correctly enforcing better customer service skills for your staff. My initial thoughts in the store was that too many people asked me if they could help... which is opposite of others experiences. Maybe that has to do with the day or the employees working. Who knows, right? I sort of settled on one sofa and chair I liked BUT when I asked the prices the store price was higher than the Ashley Home Store online price... weird. I left so I could do some research and look around at other stores. I went home, added all of the items I knew I wanted to my Ashley shopping cart, did the app for the financing online and was approved. I COULD have just bought everything online... BUT, I assumed the nice young lady that assisted me worked on commission so I went back to the store only to find out she did NOT work on commission. :( Oh well, I am here let's just buy it now. She honored the online pricing as well as the 40% off sale they was having on items that it could be applied. Then.... Well, let me say the check out process in this store needs improvement! Worst experience ever , after waiting 12 days for our adjustable bed,an new mattress that we paid cash for $3,900 furniture arrives, an the delivery person tells me that the adjustable base will not fit in my platform bed, an they need to alter my bed in order to make it fit! Altering by reconstructing our bed an breaking off a lip in the bed ! Now mind you my bed is only 7months old I purchased from value city ,so now we're trying to fit the adjustable base into the bed , we finally get inside of the foundation an , the set up guys start testing the mechanical parts of the bed , they start to raise the head of the bed an it gets caught on the headboard an completely splits my wood rails in half , needle less to say the only way to finish making our adjustable bed work at this point is they have to dismantle the rest of the bed that they've already destroyed. So only remains of our platform bed is the headboard, the rest found its way to the dumpster. We really had a great buying experience with the most informative and patient salesperson, Janice. what a sweetheart! we purchased a couple of love seats, 2 chairs, and an ottoman to add to our new home's overwhelming amount of empty space. Everything about the experience was pleasant and easy. It took us a while to make our decision and our kids were getting super cranky, but Janice was so chill and accommodating, she honestly didn't seem annoyed at all with our indecision or sleepy children. She was personable and totally relatable and I wish every buying experience included her. The finance people were nice too, we feel like we got a great deal on everything & know that, with kids, the warranty was totally necessary to purchase. We like knowing we have that kind of protection with purchases like these. Our delivery date is in a couple of weeks or sooner they said and we're excited to get everything in the house and see how rockin' good it looks. Great furniture. Atrocious customer service and delivery. I made a large order of furniture (dining room table/chairs, leather couch/chair/ottoman, coffee table, end table, TV table, dresser, headboard, footboard, bed rails, nightstand) - yes, I spent a lot of money at Ashley. After delivery, I discovered major chips on the bed rails and the dining room table. I also learned once the crew left that they'd installed my dining room table incorrectly - with the cabinet doors facing inward - as in, handles INSIDE the table. Not very effective. The crew also left a MESS behind of tiny pieces of styrofoam and plastic. I had been told they'd clean everything up. I am still waiting for re-delivery (an "even exchange," I am told) of my rails and dining table. And again I am now faced w/the inconvenience of leaving work to meet the delivery folks. This time around, they will not give me a range for the delivery time until the evening before. I am very happy with my furniture, but because of the customer service and delivery issues, I doubt I would order from Ashley again. read more

We bought our furniture from them and scheduled our delivery for today. They called and confirmed and everything. They gave us a 4 hour window from 7:30 to 11:30 and never showed. We called 5 times and no answer. We called our sales lady and she informs us that one item isn't coming because it wasn't in the warehouse. Over a week ago now I went in and purchased a matress. The delivery date was for today but had yet to receive a confirmation call of this delivery. Called yesturday to verify and was told that my matress has been ready for pick up and no delivery was even arranged. Now they want to charge 6% of total amount of matress in order to deliver another week from now. My husband and I purchased a sterns and foster mattress and King bed last April. During the initial delivery process the delivery person proceeded to place his sweaty palm on our wall, leaving a black palm print. The bed was scratched up and a new delivery was arranged. Within 6 months the king bed collapsed at the base of the foot board. We were permitted to reselect and while in the Chesapeake Ashley store we had an opportunity eventually speak with the store manager who stated that he's never heard of a bed collapsing and that all his furniture is from North Carolina. The bed was made in Vietnam. Today our reselect was delivered and it was damaged. First, the delivery driver was late and caused my boyfriend to miss an appointment. When they brought our very expensive mattress in, it wasn't wrapped in plastic. The mattress was FILTHY!! And the guy putting it together in the frame was SWEATING all over it. We called the store and told them what happened. They said that they will send us a new one. Bought a sofa and love seat set almost 3 years ago. The seat cushions were starting to go down after a few months use(I'm average guy- 6'1"/190). Contacted Ashely and they said it was normal wear and tear. Here it is almost 3 years later and we have had the seat cushions repaired on our own at the year and 3 month mark(after fighting with Ashely to get it fixed). We bought three bookcases from here. We set the delivery date October 15th and they arrived on time and were stunning. I mean, these things are beautiful and we love them. Everything about the experience was fine until a week or two later. See, one of the bookcases didn't come with their brackets needed to install the shelves. We called the delivery guys who said they'd note their paperwork and he suggested calling them the following Monday to make sure they knew. We called (no apology), they said they'd mail them and it would take 7-14 days. A week and a half later I called for an update. Nope, they weren't shipped (again, no apology). New delivery date was end of October. Could we just go to the store or the warehouse and pick them up? Nope. They had to be delivered. During this time I start messaging Ashley HomeStore via Twitter. A few days later our delivery date gets pushed to November 10 or 11. Messaging them did nothing to expedite or fix this. At this point my husband gets a phone call from an insanely rude lady who at one point said to him, "I thought we already took care of this" and "Do you not remember our previous conversations?" So rude. Two weeks later and she hasn't called us back like she said. We love the bookcases but not the fact that they don't give two figs that they were missing an integral part of their purpose when they were delivered. It's like delivering a couch without the cushions. If in fact the brackets were shipped when they were supposed to, we should be getting them a couple days. My wife and I recently spent a good sum of money at this store (gaylon bedroom set). I could not possibly be happier with the product. The manager, Hunter, was nothing short of amazing in helping us come to a final product choice and Mary was the epitome of southern charm. My husband I went to Ashley and purchase a large sectional and 60in tv stand plus coffee table and end tables. Large purchase for us. Delivery was set on a Monday over a week after purchase. I get confirmation on Tuesday that my delivery would come between 8:30am-12:30pm on the 28th. Still I'm thinking Wednesday. I call the store and leave a voice mail for the manager that I got confirmation of delivery for but still no mention of the pegs, please make sure they come with delivery tomorrow. The next day, I wait and at 12:20 I get a call from the whare house telling me my items would be delivered on Thursday between 8:30am-12:30. WHAT? THURSDAY? So I'm now boiling. I heard Wednesday twice. Mind you I've been sick this whole week, so this is not good. Manager calls me back from whare house to tell me I was right, it says WEDNESDAY the 28th. The manager from the store put it in for delivery as WEDNESDAY the 28th. The 28th is Thursday. Oh and the pegs, I mentioned those to the wharehouse and now they are looking into that, whatever. We purchased a dining room table, chairs, and china buffet / hutch. We have had the worst experience with this store!! Almost everything arrived damaged or had missing parts. Trying to get everything taken care of has been a nightmare. Due to the large number of issues we had they offered us a little money back which they told us was refunded, but never was. The customer care advocate insisted they refunded some of money; she even got a bit repugnant and told me to call my bank to figure it out. In the end they had not refunded anything to me at all!! The dining room table was broken and stuck in a partial open position exposing sharp metal pegs. I called and complained that it was a danger to my toddler in the condition it was in. That didn't same to matter to them at all, as they insisted it would be a week before they would pick the table up. A week later the day they told me it would be pick up, I waited, and they never came. Huge waste of my time!!! It took me threatening a lawsuit if my child became injured on the table for them to come out and secure the table after an entire week of it being a safety hazard in my home. I was very upset with how I with treated! I placed many phone calls regarding this situation asking for compensation for my trouble which went unreturned! Apparently the owner of the company (Craig Stein) told the customer care advocate he refused to do any more for my continued issues with his company! Although, at this point they really haven't done ANYTHING to truly compensate me yet. Also, when I requested to speak to Mr. Craig Stein myself regarding all my issues, the customer care advocate, say to me, "No, he doesn't speak to customers". What an awful way to run a business!!! So, I will be returning the furniture, which at this point leaves me in a lurch, but I suppose that's better than spending nearly $4000 with a company who has zero integrity and poor quality merchandise!!!! I bought a Bed and base from them right after the new year because they were having a sale. Initially I was told the delivery would be the following week and I would receive a phone call at the beginning of that week for my specific time and date. That week came and I called them because I had heard nothing, Wednesday (1/6/16) and was told "oh I was just about to call you" and that the base wouldn't be delivered until the following Tuesday and would then be delivered. I called again today (1/12/16) because yet again I heard nothing. I was told this time "oh I was gonna call you in like 5 minutes" the base came in last Sunday, ill call you back in 5 minutes. I want to talk to my manager to see if we can get it our fast than this Friday. Ordered a complete bedroom set with mattress and everything has either been incorrect items delivered or damaged. Calling the store is a nightmare. 90% of the time they won't answer your call. The other 10% of the time they will need a manager to help them out and they will promise you a call back. Get comfortable because that call will not be coming. Also, they will offer a deal for you to use their 3rd party delivery service for a lower price. This option is about as reliable as getting a deadbeat dad to pay child support (I've used both options, they're both trash). This store is a joke. If you there is someone in your life that you have ill will toward, recommend this store to them. I promise the experience they have will be enough revenge. I literally cannot express how trash the service is here. First off I want to say that the 1 star I've given is more than id like but there is not a less of an option. My Husband and I went into Ashley's a few times trying to decide on furniture for our new home. We want to make sure the few thousands we are spending on furniture is exactly what we want. The first trip there we are greeted by a manager and then passed off to the saleswoman who I refer to as Tammy ( this is not her real name). Tammy tries to convince us the couch we are sitting in is the best, even her daughter owns it and we should get it. I let Tammy know we have no plans to buy anything today we are just looking. Tammy AGAIN tries to convince us to buy (I know that's what she gets paid for) I let her know that we are in the process of buying a home and that I can NOT put any money down or run my credit as this will completely mess up my mortgage loan that it not yet final. She yet again gives me a quick response that I can do layaway. I, as nice as I can decline and we leave. We return again to look at the couch while also looking for more furniture. Not so lucky for us Tammy greets us. We tell her again were just looking and ill let her know if we have any questions. We walk around while she is lurking in the background. We decide to get a quote on all the furniture. Tammy gets out her scrap paper and writes down all the item#'s and tells us a price. My husband asked her if the 4th of July sales will be any good. Tammy's response, "not as good as I can do for you today". Keep in mind "today" is a random weekend with no special sales just her free delivery and 20% OFF. We leave without purchasing. Now, its the 4th of July sale and Tammy greets us again. We get the quote again with the new sales and are told "this is great price I couldn't do better with my own discount". Clearly the lies are imbedded in their heads. We get our quote and were told we could do the lawaway with $120 down. The quote is roughly $2300. We leave to discuss it and return the next day ready to put our money down. We decided to change our sons selection of bedroom set but the prices were all the same. While we were walking around INSIDE the store Tammy calls to see where I am. I let her know we are still here walking around and ill find her when im ready. We are ready but no worries Tammy found US! This time the cost is over $3000 I believe it was about $3400. WHY?! Well here is why.. Tammy added the protection plan that we told her we DID NOT want which was about $500 and she FORGOT to add an end table to our quote the day prior. The cost still didn't add up for me and I wanted to know what the difference was. Well, ill let you know Tammy does not like if you question her. She kept repeating that I wasn't adding the TAXES- which was roughly $170. I couldn't understand how it went up by so much. We removed the protection plan but the cost was still way more than the previous day. She called her manager over again to discount something and while he was walking over she said to me, In a rude voice, "im giving you discounts you shouldn't even get". That was my queue to get up and walk out which is what we did. We decided to check out other furniture stores so we did and then visited another Ashleys in Virginia Beach.. Here's what happened there, We were greeted by a man and I told him we are just looking and he let me know he would leave us alone. We looked for the couch we originally wanted and asked him for a quote on it. We let him know we found the couch online at a much cheaper price and do they price match? (I prefer to buy in person so this would have been great). He told me he would have to "talk to his manager". so my Husband and I sat on the couch discussing it waiting for his return. When he finally returned he let us know that they could not do that and the price online was to low for him to compete with. Well that's fair and in my head I was surprised he was being honest and not trying to persuade me. Well then it HIT me, the smoke smell!!! he didn't talk to his manager unless they discussed this outside over his cigarette! Long post but to sum it up Ashley's sales people lie about anything possible you can get different prices from different sales people. They don't care about their appearance and clearly have no problem leaving you to smoke. They ALWAYS have 20% off and free delivery. The prices on the furniture is NEVER what you will pay they will always like I said give you a discount. Also, the furniture in stores can be bought online cheaper with FREE Delivery. I will never step foot inside an Ashley's Furniture EVER. P.S. my mother recently had problems with their delivery and items being out of stock without her being told. read more

So far we had two defective furniture and waiting for someone to call back and see what they are going to do about it. I have been to the store and spoken to the sales person and a manager. From there I was referred to costumer service who referred me to another person at the corporate office who has not returned my call. Not sure what to do next. Some other big issue was that the furniture you see at the store is not what you going to get. It seems that there is no quality control. read more

Well I wish I'd taken the time to read these reviews BEFORE we shopped there...lesson learned!!!! Nice store...nice sales people...nice stuff in the store. So why the 1 star? Because I'll never return to their store ever again. Nor will I recommend them. And as a manager myself...that's what really matters. Will someone comeback and will they tell their friends good things? THE DELIVERY SERVICE is a nightmare. Don't use them if you buy something there. It's a shame because if they left it to the drivers things would probably go much smoother, but their automated service and delivery coordinators just flat don't care, and from my experience not capable of handling a bad situation that THEY created. They start out with an automated service that gives you a range of time or "block" like a cable company. They gave us "between 10am-2pm". Fair enough...I'd been fine with just that. But THEN a delivery coordinator calls me that morning and tells me the driver will be there at 10. Little did I know the driver had called my wife at 8:30 and said he was halfway there and 20-30 min. away! So my wife rushes out of work and calls me on the way. Mind you we live 30 min. from home so it's not small feet to get back. She arrives home at 9. Meanwhile I call the delivery service and explain what the driver said and that they were going to leave if we weren't there. The delivery coordinator argues with me over what someone else told me and said that if we aren't there by 10 they are telling the driver to leave! So what do they do? They send the driver to another delivery and he shows up at 11! So there my wife sat waiting for an hour and a half! Here's where it gets even better. Their automated service calls me at 11:10 and asks me to take a survey. The first question is "was your furniture delivered in the time frame it was promised press 1 for yes and 2 for no". Of course I press 2 because they are a hour late not to mention the rest of the hassle! HERE'S WHERE IT GETS HILARIOUS...because I pressed 2 for no it then says "WE'RE SORRY WE WERE UNABLE TO REACH YOU...GOODBYE"! They kicked me OUT of the survey because they knew it was going to be a bad one! UNREAL! Never again...ever. FYI...my wife said the driver's themselves were cordial and nice. read more

I previously wrote a great review on this store but here is my update: we ordered a new sectional from this location about two weeks ago, yesterday it was supposed to arrive. they were supposed to call us with a delivery window for it but they never did. So I called the store and they said it would be here between 1:30 and 5:30 and that they were at the stop before ours. About 15 minutes later I received an automated phone call saying they were on the way. Fast forward to 6pm and they still hadn't shown up. I called the store and first they said they tried delivering it but no one was home, then they said there was a note on the order saying the customer called in to reschedule because there was an emergency. Fast forward a day, we get a call saying we won't be getting it until next week. Needless to say we are never shopping here again and will be trying to get our money back. Unless you are okay with someone "calling on your behalf" don't shop here. This is coming from someone who has spent 5,000 at this location in the past year. I'm done. read more
