We wandered off during one of our days while staying in the Berkshires to come here and take in all of AsiaBarong's immense art collection. To add, the husband and wife team prove that there's no stopping them. The massive- and I mean jaw-dropping space is the perfect background for showcasing a range of Tibetan sculptures, Balinese, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Nepalese, Indian to Kama Sutra and even more items. There are $$$$$ sculptures up the wazoo- but we were substantially below that. Plus, we're not in the market for Asian statuaries or marble items weighing a ton. As an alternative, AsiaBarong has many modest pieces such as Buddhas that I was eyeing- but we have a few in the garden and indoors. Instead, we picked up a very small Xian Warrior sculpture, a black lacquered Japanese vase, hubs picked out a black onyx bracelet for himself and something for our daughter. The price was right and so was the super warm service. She even secured one of the gifts in like a (cleaned) plastic salad container for the ride home. Listen... whatever works. read more

With travel restricted by the pandemic, I haven't been able to get up to the Berkshires... but when my wall clock stopped working, I decided I really needed to replace it with a decorative mask, to go with the other masks (many bought from Asia Barong) on that wall. I looked at their website ( https://asiabarong.com/ ), as well as eBay and a couple of other websites, but didn't see anything that was just right. So I phoned Asia Barong, and the owner, Bill, was more than willing to send me photos of the other masks he had available. I chose a few that I liked, and he then sent me their prices and dimensions. Once I decided on the ones I wanted (I decided that two would work on my "mask wall"), I gave him my credit card info and he shipped them right away! What an amazing place! They literally have thousands of Asian items, ranging from $8 fans to $20,000 sculptures. I saw things that I've only seen in movies- a bridal box to carry the bride, a Jeep from WWII, a medicine box from Thailand, and ancient doors from China. Imagine "Lara Croft- Tomb Raider" and you get the picture. I imagine they came here for their set pieces! A must stop for everyone! read more

Wow! I was intrigued by the pictures I saw online so we had to stop by when we were in town last weekend. As others have said, this is part store part museum/gallery. You could pick up a $5 tchotchke or a $30,000 hand carved teak door...custom made new or hundreds of years old. Need a fully restored WWII Jeep? They have one of those too. Quite possibly the greatest store I've ever visited. It's impossible to stop in without staying for hours to admire the massive collection of Asian art that the owner acquires from all around the world. Asia Barong may technically be an art store, but it's essentially a museum. I've never seen such an incredible and overwhelmingly massive collection of Asian art. The store is enormous, and filled to the brim with an endless variety of breath-taking items. Lovely furniture, jewelry, sculptures, wood carvings... basically anything and everything. Great prices and very kind and helpful staff. There is a $5 section with tons of items, as well as an entire room designated as a discount room. In addition to the massive indoor store, there are 2 separate outdoor sections with a variety of garden pieces and larger items. If you're in the Berkshires, this place is a must see. Strange combination of Asian artifacts and furniture, had the look of cultural appropriation... Just a weird vibe all the way through, with temple-sized buddhas and prayer gates, masks, full-room scenes from sacred places... all supposedly fairly sourced. I would recommend anyone really interested in these cultures go to the Far East. read more

Not everything here is antique, but most everything here is wildly expensive. I've been here a few times and seen things i like, that i would buy if i had anywhere to put them. they sell everything from cool teak sushi trays to cheapy lanterns and huge antique furniture. They have an entertaining erotica cabinet filled with pervy art which i of course, adore. and some naughty tibetan statues as well. There's a massive outdoor sculpture area and they even carve to order anything you want. all in all a nice place to lose yourself for an hour or so in great barrington. read more

A treasure trove of statues (of every imaginable size), artifacts, pairings, furniture, home decor, art, musical instruments, textiles and more that I'm sure I am leaving out. Pieces from many Asian countries and made from many mediums and can be indoor/outdoor items too. You are bound to find item(s) to suit what you're looking for. Yes, the hours are not 100% set. Asia Barong is a unique shopping experience. We drove up as a day trip to visit the store and purchase some Christmas presents (went there mid-December). Definitely call ahead because they are not open all year round, and are especially likely to be closed during January, February, and March. Bundle up because the back room of the store isn't heated and gets quite chilly in the colder months. The owner is extremely cheerful and friendly, which made it pleasant to call and to visit the store, I thought that they had a spectacular selection of items. It was like going to a museum where you can touch things and buy them too of course! Many unusual and beautiful pieces. Obviously for large items, the prices were high, but I felt that comparatively their prices were actually very reasonable. We really loved this table and were quoted at around $450. We didn't end up buying it, but I was surprised they didn't want double the asking price. There are lots of interesting small items as well. I bought a few things for myself and as gifts. They had a bargain area and I found two small items (a mask and a wooden box) for $5 each. Score! I thought they had so many great decorative items that were under $50. I definitely saw a few items that I have priced in other places that were less at Asia Barong. Lots of hand carved wood and decorative items. Some really nice furniture like dining room hutches and gorgeous, absolutely to die for tables made from recycled wood from boats with all different colored paint, which I would love to have, but of course those were somewhere around $1,500 (out of my leauge as a recent college graduate). I've never seen anything like that anywhere else though, and that can be said for many of the items you will discover at Asia Barong. read more

Asia Barong is unlike anything you've ever encountered. It's like a museum but everythings for sale and you can handle and touch the items. Jewelry, coins, statues from the smallest to giant size, rickshaws, hand carved beds, huge gongs, elevated hand carved shacks for storing rice, an American WWll Jeep captured by the Japanese and many other items too numerous to mention. "Do you want to go here to kill some time before heading to Tanglewood" "Yeah, sure....not sure what we're expecting to find, though" ^statement prior to entering the majesty and adventure and having my mind Barong-exploded Let me tell you....if you appreciate adventure, culture, exploration, and antiques (only consider it to be far beyond your price range) then this is a place you can appreciate. It's like Ariel's treasure trove in this place! Not everything is for everyone, but there certainly is SOMETHING for everyone. From small scale (unique jewelry, pottery, hats, kimonos, teeny sculptures) to the LARGE scale (bureaus, cabinets, massive sculptures, parts of old temples *like doorways*, and even full HOUSES) - - - there's certainly much to explore. Sitting Buddha, dancing goddess statues, dragon columns, and even the odd phallic representation (well, actually this was everywhere: bottle openers, canes, pottery, paintings, and wood carvings - - - - not especially child-appropriate). Our visit landed on the same week as their "tent sale" and many things were dramatically reduced in price. Many of these things were damaged, but still beautiful. I purchased a small granite statue which had been broken, leaving only a partial foot and robe behind (but it fits my style - especially for $10), as well as a larger marble statue which had been of a sitting Sai Baba which had been partially damaged (originally $85, but 1/2-price due to the sale). The beau and I have vowed to return when we own property (*slash* have a place to properly store/display such antiquities). You may end up spending a load of cash - - - but hey, this isn't your Allen-wrench Ikea coffee table...it's imported artifact! read more

From my first step into the yard, I was transported to the Far East in all its splendor. The energy from the various "antique" sculptures, panels and former homes on stilts is palpable. I quoted 'antique' as these are far from the antiques we find here in the U.S. or the U.K. Many many of these spectacular finds are thousands of years old allowing us to imagine the homes they've had and people they've seen. Mesmerizing to the point I was completely unaware this magical place is on a busy Great Barrington road, I made my way into the store. To say I was overwhelmed at the inventory would be inaccurate. I was transported yet again to items from far away cultures. This is one place to visit for an experience you won't forget, especially if you're searching for a special gift. There is lovely jewelry and clothing from which to choose among many items with which I know you'll fall in love! Touching sculptures which are hundreds if not thousands of years old is a rush for me and I guarantee you will have the same result. Asia Barong is sensational. I've had my eye on an item which truly wants to come home with me. I wish you the same reaction. Interesting place but the guy who works there is just a righteous obnoxious smug snob. He probably thinks too much of himself because he's well travelled. Whatever. Ask him a question and he'll give you a sarcastic remark. Some stuff may be nice and the price may be okay but I left without buying because of his attitude and I honestly don't regret not buying. Shops like this are impulse buys anyways. My advice is to wait before you buy anything and if you really must have it then go back another time. Which of course is a problem because they don't have set hours. I started this review weeks ago and totally happy that I didn't buy the piece that I wanted. read more

I ordered a double pyramid box. It arrived BROKEN. Not shattered, but with a chunk of the side missing. Neither did it have the fine carving of the photograph. Really a mess. No fine workmanship. It wasn't a problem with shipment mishandling, the missing piece was not in the box. The seller simply tried to get away with it. When I bought it I knew fair shipping was 13 dollars but the seller wanted me to send under separate cover almost 15 dollars. The shipping on the package was 11 dollars and change. I collect quality items from all over the world and I have never seen such a terrible representation of a pyramid box. I don't know how they have any internet clientele, but don't trust them unless you are seeing the actual item at their shop. Seller did refund my money in full. read more

When you know what you're looking at, this place is the ultimate Asian antique spot. The shelves of statues are arranged by deity - and that's just the beginning! I think I spent a good hour inside just wandering around with a semi-interested husband in tow (but at least he wasn't totally anti). Had I a second hour to spend browsing, I could have spent a lot more money. Fortunately for my bank account, I stuck to my original search for a Ganesh figurine and a string of small prayer flags. Hubby and I loved it here so much we came back twice. We wanted to buy everything! But settled on three of the pink tagged items. There is enough here for everyone and one can spend hours looking at the art...I mean items. I found this place while traveling with friends to Lee Shopping Center. Honestly, this place is hard to miss from the road because of the large statues in front of the building. We decided to stop and take a look around. I'm glad we did! This place is so interesting and has so many things. Not all of it is Asian but more of the eastern side of the world. There are a lot of huge pieces that I believe are meant to decorate the outside of your home but there are furniture options for inside of your home as well (Dressers, tables, armoires, etc.) The front and side of the shop is decorated with the largest pieces of merchandise for example an old war jeep and tree houses. There are some very old pieces such as bridal carriers which is just interesting to look at and admire all the detail and culture. They have the most beautiful little jewelry boxes which i want one in every design. There are small knickknacks there as well as jewelry, chess sets, kimonos, fans, veils, scrolls and perfume bottles. Upstairs they have a room that is filled with paintings. There are some pieces that could be considered erotic to very reserved individuals so I wouldn't suggest dragging your children along with you here. I love going here and I would suggest others who love Asian cultures and want something out of the ordinary. The large pieces can be very expensive but the small product is reasonably priced. I try to stop in here every time I go to Lee. They always have new things! read more

This is in response to the owner, William's response to my criticism concerning how shipping was dealt with in his store. He definitely gave me a shipping quote that ended up costing me almost double the price for the original Buddha I asked him about. He pressed me to take my purchases to the shipping store down the block telling me it would be cheaper than if he sent them for me. He offered to send his guy with me because of the weight of the 7 pieces, costing about $3900, I bought from him. The many signs throughout the store saying they ship anything anywhere were very misleading as he was completely uninformed about shipping costs. And after the fact he can't take any responsibility for any of this. We are both very nice people. He is just not honest. read more
