One of the first things I did when I moved to Denver was find this magazine. It's a great way of familiarizing with the local Asian community. As a bonus, I like the restaurant advertising since it's the Asian restaurants that target an Asian consumer. I'm a little surprised that Denver has a magazine like this, since Seattle had a larger Asian population yet lacked a Asian magazine (or at least one written in English... hehe). One more nice thing about this is what they don't have. Unlike many of the freebie papers, they don't have any medical marijuana advertising. While some of the other papers are plastered cover to cover with "medicine" ads, this one isn't. I guess you can interpet that different ways. Maybe it's not allowed, maybe the dispensaries don't consider it a target market... either way I enjoy not seeing it. read more

What happened to Denver? Asian Avenue Magazine happened. This magazine represents unity between Denver and its Asian American community. Whenever visitors ask, "what's good" in Denver, I pass them a magazine that's available practically anywhere. They have events as simple as a high school culture show to something as HUGE as the Colorado Dragon Boat Festival. AAmag is legit in shaping what Denver is going to become. It is single handedly creating the bridge that is "Asian America". They host one of the biggest growing events in Colorado; the Miss Asian American Colorado leadership program. And they continually feature the lives of outstanding individuals who deserve recognition in the community with issues such as the "Asian American Heroes". Simply put: If you're in Denver and don't grab an issue of AAmag every month... you're falling behind. read more
