    Steak & Flank Pho

I think this is our only option for pho in our area and thank goodness, it's GREAT! We tried the chicken satay for the first time tonight and it was fabulous. My boyfriend loved the peanut sauce and I loved the cucumber vinegar salad that was served along with it. Pho comes with all your typical fixings- beans sprouts, jalapeño, limes, hoisin, and siracha. Give this place a try!

A nice surprise. Fresh veggies. Great flavors. Pleasant atmosphere. Not sure why others are ragging on the place, I have yet to have a bad experience, bad dish (have had 6 different meals there so far), or anything else negative to say. Kids love the Pad Thai. Wife likes the fact that you can increase the heat from 1 to 5. I love the fact that it doesn't break the bank to take a family of 4 out to dinner unlike some of the other national pre-processed salt induced coma chain restaurants that dot University Ave. I mean, it's not mind blowing food. Let's face it, we live in Cedar Falls, IA. There is not much around here that is mind blowing. What it is however is a good selection of fresh Asian cuisine in a family friendly atmosphere. I honestly do not think you can go wrong at least trying this place out. *****UPDATE 04/05/18***** Well, I am not going to take any stars away (yet), I am still leaning in the "Yay! I'm a fan" rating, but have been losing faith over the past 6 months. I usually get the Pad Kee Mao, and it has recently been hit or miss, almost as if whichever cook is there that day cooks it slightly different. Sometimes chock-full of flavor, other times, not so much. So yeah, not sure whats happening there. Other dishes are good. Veggies remain fresh. Service is good. But I have been trying other places lately and have found myself not returning as often. I still have faith in them and would recommend them as a "must try" joint, but I would not be surprised if they under-impressed even moderate Thai food fans.

I'll start by saying I give them the benefit of the doubt, maybe I went at the wrong time of night (7 on a Friday). We waited nearly an hour for our food (some pork egg rolls, red curry, and vermicelli). There were tables near us who were seated when we walked in, and they only got their food about 10-15 minutes before us. After waiting for my Jackfruit smoothie to be prepared, it was quite an enjoyable taste, somewhere between a banana and mango. I desperately missed the traditional tapioca balls or jelly though... it could have used it. The shredded pork egg rolls where very tasty too! They come with a rice paper wrapping and the same sweet/sour sauce they serve with the vermicelli. After having these two items, we grew increasingly hungry for our entrees. My vermicelli with slices pork and egg roll was pretty tasty, but I've had better down the road at Viet Noodle (where I can add in a red chili paste and hoisin sauce to my tasting). The red curry was a COMPLETE disappointment. It was like water flavored with spices. There was little to no coconut flavoring (which there should be in curry) and it was hard to finish. The only upside to the curry was the addition of eggplant. I didn't know there could be such a horrible curry in the Cedar Valley... Total, our bill was $32 for our appetizer ($4), two entrees($10 for vermicelli and $12 for the curry), and a smoothie ($4). For that price, your time and taste are better off going 3 miles east down University to Viet Noodle in Waterloo: http://www.yelp.com/biz/viet-noodles-cedar-falls , 2936 University Ave, WATERLOO, IA 50701.

Ordered takeout: the curries had no flavor, the phò was equally flavorless. Chicken Satay was OK, everything else was terrible.

There is nothing that gets me quite as excited as piling up heaping bowls of meat, noodles, and veggies and cooking them with the HuHot sauces/oils. Service and ambiance are always great, and I'm lucky that I'm accompanied by the best company whenever I come here. Lots of memories and great conversations had in the booths of this restaurant!

I will preface this with the fact we found out it was her 3rd shift as a hostess/ server here. Grace and understanding applied for that...and they saved a star by the way they removed us from her server duties and spent time going over the SHOULD HAVE BEEN 'non-issue' she had turned into an awkward situation for all. I have family in town from out of state visiting us as I am battling inoperable stage 4 cancer. We recommend Hu Hot saying they are always good! Our servers have always been fast and friendly! Our server came and she introduced the process and 'one bowl' rule to our visitors. (All in late 70's and 84 yrs old and never been to a Hu Hot) I have never had them push that ONE BOWL rule except on the sign. But...ok. Asked about drinks and I asked for a bowl of lemon wedges for all the waters then ordered drinks. My aunt opted for just water, I ordered an ice tea, wife ordered a lemonade then my uncle said, very clearly, "ice tea please" and my aunt said "me too, I will have the ice tea". All 5 of us were very clear on what was ordered. She dropped off 1 ice tea, 1 lemonade and 3 waters and the lemon slices. We noticed 2 missing ice teas NO BIG DEAL! EASY FIX! and I told my wife we would just flag her down. A different server came by and I asked for the 2 missing ice teas. He said "Sure! I will let your server know". The original server came back and set down 3 ice teas on the end of the table and said "Here's the 3 ice teas but you said 3 waters! But I will replace them anyways". Very rude tone! Our jaws actually dropped and 3 of 5 of us all spoke up and said "nobody ordered 3 waters and we all heard ice teas. She walked off in a 'whatever' manner and we all stared at each other in a bit of shock. Really!!! Mad at us because she messed up the order we all heard?? Wife went up to the same server at the bar to make sure we weren't charged for the 4th tea and explain that we ordered what we wanted...in a very calm tone. Server said "I don't like the way your talking to me and am getting a Manager! Mind blown again. The assistant Mgr came out and had a good , calm, intelligent talk at the table (learned it was her 3rd shift) and they made adjustments in the staff to get us a server we could talk to who did a great job. The food, (good as always)second server and assistant mgr earned the 3 stars. Really do NOT know what this young lady is going through in life...plus a new job...so Grace and possible extenuating circumstances mindset applied. I do hope it's not as bad as inoperable stage IV terminal cancer. . Even fighting THAT, I can't be that intolerably rude. We do pray she finds a peace that allows her to answer a Mis-heard order with a "Sorry about that! I'll be right back with your _______ ." Or something friendly like that! We will adjust our statement made while suggesting Hu Hot to my family and friends in the future to saying "The food is always good and the service is ALMOST always fast and friendly". Thanks assistant mgr and Hu Hot staff that worked through this SHOULD HAVE BEEN "non-issue". We will be back! Just really careful on server selection! God Bless! I do hope the server finds a silver lining in this situation.

Quaint little restaurant and the decor was solid. We had to wait for almost everything which isn't surprising as they looked to be short-staffed - I hope they staff more than two front house people regularly. My friend and I had drinks, he tried a Thai beer and peach saki, which he enjoyed. I had fountain root beer. We ordered steamed potstickers, which came out too quickly, were just north of warm and the sauce was far too sweet. Underwhelming. They'd be better if they were up to temp and the sauce was more savory and less sweet. The crabmeat Rangoon was crisp on one side and a little soggy on the other, they came out hot but I think they had been sitting for a bit. The sauce was again, far too sweet. It looked like straight honey with red pepper flakes in it. The entrees however, almost made up for the appetizers. Both plates were large and outstanding flavor. He had Racy Pad Thai (shrimp) with level 2 heat (1-5). I had chicken pad Thai (level 3), with a tamarind-based sauce and chopped peanuts on top. Again, both were fantastic. Overall a pleasant experience, I will return.
