I caught an ad in this suburban night life paper called, nitelife.org. It advertised a singles dance night at a Schaumburg hotel, ages ranging from 28-40. The ad also mentioned if you brought a friend the usual cover charge of $10/each would be discounted to $5 per person. So, I checked it out with a friend. First, the ladies at the ticket counter gave me such a hard time about the cover. Stating that I should've brought the ad and forced us to pay $10 each. (I checked the ad later, you did not have to bring it with you. I think they weren't doing so hot with # of attendees so..) The average age was NOT 28+. More like 46+. My friend and I stuck out bad, most would've thought we were cougar hunters or cruising for "pension checks". There were a few cougars, very few. Strange music variety, a CD player DJ was playing everything from Euro to pop to oldies. Imagine going to a elderly Jewish singles event, rollin' with Morty trying to pickup women. I shit you not, there were two guys on the dance floor with walkers, rolling about to the sounds of the Humpty dance. The website and newspaper photos of upcoming events are very misleading. On that particular night the ad boasted 500+ singles from neighboring burbs would be participating.

There was the circling group of lone wolves around the dance floor, of course. But I didn't see a lot of partner changing during the three hours we stayed. The theme of the dance was Marti Gra and there were beads and masks and other party favors available. In the lobby there was a tarot card reader to tell your fortune. There was a lot of energy at this dance controled by a live singer on the podium. We all had a good time for what it was. I think people expect too much from events like this and are disappointed. But I want to say something more about the energy produced by the entertainer at this dance, not a DJ, but Chicago's own Ms. Diva Montell, herself. I was surprised by this and did not know what to expect from MS. Montell as she is known for singing opera and singing in the cabarets of the western burbs of Chicago. Let me tell you that the owner of Thunderbirds did himself and his business a favor by securing Ms. Montell for this dance. She was great, Ms. Montell can ROCK, controlling the energy of the dance by her song selection, with one song following the next. Great fun did we all have last night! I know for a fact, that there was at least one married couple there. This venue is not just a singles party. I understand that Ms. Montell does these dances from time to time.

While it took days if not weeks longer than expected, I had no reason to fault them specifically. This time, I needed a new battery. According to Tissot, the time difference and hand lag (pictured) is due to improper battery changing sequence and/or incorrect battery. When I called to let Castello know, and find out next steps, the manager Michelle was fairly rude and defensive instead of helpful and understanding. She said things like: "we change 20 batteries a day" "I have worked here for 30 years" "I have sold 100 of these watches" "We have sold Tissot for 40 years" and sooooo many other things like this instead of "let me find out about that" or "I will take care of that for you". She did come close with "we will send it to Tissot for you and report back with how much the repair will be" ....yikes. I said I was ok paying for anything not related to their apparent lack of experience changing batteries in a T-Touch, but there was no offer to stand behind their work, as I read the wrong battery can "fry" the watch, whatever that means. One last Michelle quote:(she does love to argue and be defensive) her: "Is the watch working" me: "yes" her:" that means the battery is good" LMAO I even did a little homework, emailed it to her, and asked if the battery brand used or sequence was followed. She thought the idea was absurd that she read that email from me, when all I wanted was to find out how or if they could help rectify the situation. I visited today to get my $25 back, and decided just to send to Tissot for repairs myself. A LOT more words from Michelle, most of which contradicting her statements form our phone call like "I said I would take care of it" "we have sold Tissot for 35 years" "I have worked here 31 years" etc. but no $25. They are out here just stealing money at this point lol. I will see what Tissot comes back with and if the battery was the cause of any damage, I will return for Costello for them to reimburse and hope they come to their senses and do the right thing. It started with a minor issue last Saturday when the person working had to ask me the color of the tie I was picking up. I had to text my son since he did the drop off. (Tip - have the person dropping off the clothes take a picture of the items in case a different person picks up the order.) When I got home, I noticed both suits had spots on them - see picture. I went back and left the pictured suit with them to re-clean, but couldn't leave the other one because my son needed it for an interview on Monday morning. With my son took the suit jacket out of the plastic Sunday evening he realized it was not his suit! When I brought the suit back on Monday morning at 9 o'clock, (which BTW, is late for a dry cleaner to open, and is not the time listed on Google), the woman insisted I had the correct suit because the numbers on the ticket matched. Luckily, this time I had pictures of the suit, including the brand label and went behind the counter myself to find the correct suit which I did in 30 seconds. I hope they can figure out who owns the blue Perry Ellis suit that was not mine. In the future, I will be marking my clothes when I drop them off at the new dry cleaner I will be using.

We came in to get the battries replaced for our watches and within 15 minutes both batteries were replaced for $7 each and we were on our merry way. Besides the usual pawn shop fare, this one had plenty of DVD's and CD's on sale too, some for about a buck a pice. If you're leery about pawn shops, and you should be, at least give this one a try next time your priceless gold chain breaks. They'll fix it in no time and you'll still have enough cash in your pocket to buy some used movies.
