Based on all of the excellent Yelp reviews, I contacted John for help setting up my new laptop and transferring all data from the old to the new. He did not disappoint. I thought I was on the verge of completely running out of storage...... Actually, I did run out and I lost almost 15G of data and some very important files that I would not be able to replace. It was along day of making calls and trying to get a referral to someone who could help. A friend mentioned John and told me many people who lived in the building he managed had used John and they were very impressed with the quality of his work. I called John, who was able to diagnose the problem pretty quickly and then spend another 1.5 hours helping me to free up space on the hard drive so the missing files would reload. He returned my call at 5:30PM and had me back in business by 7:30PM. Not only will I use him again when needed but I will send a note to my circle of friends with my highest recommendation. John is awesome. Seriously, if you have any type of computer issues or problems, call him. He's honest and fair to the point I would trust and recommend to him to family. Lemme explain.... I admit I'm something of a girl geek. I kinda live online (as my husband will attest to) and yeah, I'm one of those people who gets nervous when I don't have computer access for a few hours. Basically, I've learned how to do most computery "things" myself out of necessity which means somehow now I've become the one our family and friends all come to when they have a virus, a trojan, a "slow" computer, software questions, want to set up a router or a network, need help setting up a new computer, P2P programs, etc, etc. Anyway when I woke up today and one of my computers wouldn't start I was pretty sure it was the power supply (and saying prayers that it wasn't the mobo). I've built computers, but it's been a while. I looked inside, made sure it wasn't the power cord, the surge protector, the outlet, any dust, etc and that all the connections were tight. They were. And then I looked at my PS to see what I would need. That's when I noticed I was in trouble. I couldn't get in to disconnect the PS to bring it with me because of this computer's wacky set up. I literally couldn't get my hand in there to disconnect things. Okay, so I needed help. And this was beyond dork squad plug in a modem or delete a virus help. This was possibly take this whole sucker apart and remember where everything went help. No way do I have time to do all that. I tried a few places by phone. Most said it would take them 2-4 days before diagnostics could be run and several said oh, it's going to be your motherboard (and the estimates for a new one? Over $600 for parts alone plus labor and 5+ WEEKS!). One even said power supplies rarely fail (which is just such bs!). So, trying not to panic, I checked yelp. And John's name popped up. Thank goodness it did. John called me back within an hour, listened while I explained what was going on, and said he had a new ps for me. He said it would take about 30 minutes to put in and he had some time that very night. Sweet! And as if I wasn't hooked? His price! One place's diagnostic was $199 and I had to haul it there, leave it, and then lug it back. Not good if something doesn't work when you get home. John's quote for labor AND the new PS was way less. But wait, it gets better! I couldn't resist. I went to microcenter myself before John came over. I had to return something small but while there, I bought a new PS. It was on sale. It was a brand I like. It was less than at newegg. It's a powersaving model. I couldn't help myself! I called John, told him, and having dealt with shady characters before (ever try telling a plumber or a car mechanic you bought your own parts?!) I said if he thought the one he was bringing me was better we could still use his. He was totally cool about using mine. Even said I bought a good one *g* He arrived in the time he quoted, ready to get to work. Somehow, he was able to get in that tiny space and hook everything up. It was not easy, but he did everything with a smile and even stayed to make sure it was up and running (it needed to be tightened and rebooted a few times which if I was doing this would have driven me CRAZY! John has patience to spare!). John even took a little time after it was up and running to see if I needed any system optimization. A very nice touch. And all he charged us even though he stayed longer than he quoted was the original labor fee. How many people do THAT? But here is why John is awesome. Because if it turned out that besides needing a new ps, if it was my worst, most dreaded fear and this was a mobo problem? He said that he knew someone to help and would refund me. Seriously? This guy rocks. No other computer guy is going to do that! And my computer? Juuuust fine with the new power supply. I can't recommend John strongly enough. And I'm going to. To all those family and friends I don't have time to help. ;) Give him a call. You won't be sorry AND you'll be up and running before anyone else can even take a look at your problem! read more

I was having multiple long-term problems with my PC and my printer over a period of six months. I had paid for home visits from two well-known tech support companies, and they had not fixed the problems. Then I contacted John's Computer Tuneup and asked for help. John came to my home and checked everything, identified the problems, and went about solving them. For the first service call, John came to my home and checked all systems. I had a list of problems large and small, and he addressed all of them. He is very articulate and able to answer all my questions and to explain what he had done. At my request he set up a remote connection so that at any time I could log him in to my computer to avoid a house visit. He has helped me with several major problems since that first visit. John is committed and quite knowledgeable; and he is usually available for urgent calls. His fee is reasonable, especially for the high quality work he does. In my 35 years using computers, I have gone through many tech services, and none of them measures up to the quality of John's services. I might add that I have a lot of computer skills to cope with things I need to do, but in other ways I'm a computer dummy. John got me out of a SERIOUS jam. I got a bug that annihilated my computer. (Fortunately, most of my important files were on an external drive) It was so jacked, I couldn't even download the drivers needed to get me back on the internet to download the other drivers I needed to restore even my most basic settings. It was extremely nerve-wracking. I called John on a Sunday late morning, and to my surprise, he was able to come out later that day! He talked me through several fixes that I could do on my own (without his help or charges), but when none of those worked, he came out and put my broken humpty-dumpty computer back together again. He was extremely patient with all my questions, and was able to get things back on track in under an hour. I found John's number posted at the local Jewel Store. I had been using the Geek Squad, but fired them when I was told I couldn't request a particular agent, because he was "outside" of my service area. I called John's number, and left a message. He returned my call promptly! As soon as I spoke with him, I knew he was the real deal. John likes what he's doing, and it shows. He's a genuine person, who shows up at your house when he says he will, and fixes every problem you're having with your computer. John's a great troubleshooter! He also gives you reminder sheets, with clear directions, so you can safe guard your computer against viruses, yourself! The Geek Squad never offered me that kind of information. John's prices are reasonable, and he's very upfront about how he charges. Obviously, I am not a computer wiz. John never regards any of the questions I ask as stupid. In fact, he's very good at explaining things. Frankly, like David H. said, if you can find a better computer fix it guy than John, GOOD LUCK, indeed! Give him a call, he's great!
