On the day of our shoot, my husband woke up very sick. He wanted to cancel but I begged him to hang in for a few hours until our session was complete. He agreed but he was irritable the whole time. Our son was cranky and teething and hadn't slept through the night for at least a week. Plus we had just partied for three days with out friends at our family beach house in Moss Landing so I was super tired! To top it off, the weather on the afternoon of our shoot was unforgiving. When Rachel arrived we sort of rushed her through our session because we all wanted to get back home to the Bay. I figured we wouldn't get a lot of good shots but if we got at least a few it wouldn't be wasted effort. She was gracious and patient and gave us just the right amount of direction that we needed since my husband and I feel super awkward in front of the camera. Despite giving her zero workable material, the photos came out gorgeous! (And we received them in a week!) I couldn't believe it. I am so glad I hired Adam for my surprise proposal to my girlfriend. Living in SoCal and having…read morenever been to Monterey/Big Sur, I planned my whole proposal based on google searches, reddit threads, and word of mouth. Being a Big Sur/Monterey local, Adam provided extremely helpful insight and feedback for my proposal. He definitely helped relieve a lot of the stress during the planning phase of my proposal. On the day of the actual shoot, the day-of jitters was overwhelming at times, but Adam's energy and demeanor was very centering. He was patient and gave my new fiancee and I space to calm ourselves, and also knew when to take charge and guide us with our poses. He also had amazing and creative ideas for how to pose and brought us to local, reclusive spots to take intimate photos. Best of all, Adam always had a smile on his face and he made us really think like we were supermodels walking the runway haha. I studied film-video in college. Thus, I did take a standard into to photography class. I learned…read morethe basics-not hard, not rocket science. Which brings me to Jason Collins. He had good ratings on Yelp and elsewhere locally & did homes for sale pics. His pics looked good. We started the process to get him on contract for the job. I started over a month in advance as I was going to be out of the country for 3 weeks during that time. His tracking of communication was lacking. He kept pushing back on the exact day I needed the shots done while going back and forth on e-mail while I was very busy out of country. I was right & he was wrong about it because I clearly remember what we agreed on because I had the higher vested interest whereas he had to track other jobs as well. So I just gave up and relented. I needed it done on a Friday so that I could list the house on that Saturday & had a housekeeper scheduled for Thursday to clean the whole house. I had to move that all up a day which cost me an extra day to get the house ready for the shots. He knew this yet passively complained about the fact that I was still moving furniture around that morning after the all day cleaning the day before. He took the shots & they were as expected-again-not rocket science and matched what one sees on other quality home listings. Then he sent me the link w/password to download the pics. Guess what? The file sizes were HUGE and thus unusable to upload to Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace-WTH? They were all at least 25-30 mbs. or more! So I had to contact him yet again after the job was done to get normal sized shots (1-2 mbs.) and did get them. Overall, in closing, during a time when I, as a certified Project Manager Professioal (PMP) was juggling an overseas trip and getting my house ready to show, well, dealing with his peccadillos was far from fun so buyer beware.
