Went on the polar express train ride the other night and it was so magical. The aspen crossing staff all work so hard to make it special for the children. The only reason I am giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is because our 1 hour train ride turned into a 2 hour train ride as our train got stuck in a snow drift. Someone came by our table to inform us and my family became concerned and I said ... she's joking it's part of the play to which my uncle said ... she's not joking! If you want to relax, find yourself a hotel. - DO NOT STAY HERE.we were charged for the cost of washing out spilled coffee and mud from our bedding. The coffee was obviously an accident and traveling with children brings in sand and in wet days mud. At no time did anyone smoke within the caboose but we were charged fir it. I can attest no smoking was done in the caboose. I suffer pulmonary disease and my grandson from asthma. I will not be returning to Aspen Crossing. I read more

Heartless company. Do not support them. My Dad was admitted to the ICU on life support the day we were supposed to attend the Polar Express with our kids. We were unable to attend ofcourse to be at the hospital to support him. They refused to give us any refund or credit to return to the next year. I understand refund policies, but there's a point where being a human-being kicks in and showing some compassion. Unfortunately, this will be the last year we attend. Do not support a company that has no heart and would put their greed before helping a family crisis during the holidays. read more

I like it here for dining but have only eaten on the train. I had one bad experience in so so many years but it was rectified quickly and I even received an unexpected $40 gift card (still have that card from years ago as it's not about the money and more the experience, I'll use one day!) in the mail for bringing it to their attention. Need to check out the other building, name escapes me (white building off the parking lot) there's a place for food there and an escape room. read more

Aspen Crossing is a preserved piece of private track that runs some restored old cars and locomotives. You can sign up for all kinds of experiences - Polar Express for the kiddos at Christmas, plays, music on board, brunch or dinner on board ect. They have build quite a little enterprise. There is a dining car restaurant, train station gift shop/nursery with an event tent attached, a campground (you can rent out a caboose if that's something on your bucket list) and they the train itself which travels back and forth on their preserved tracks for people to enjoy the praire landscapes. This restored train ride the second of it's kind in AB (the other is closer to Edmonton) but Mossleigh is a easy breezy 45 minutes from Calgary. There are two grain elevators along their tracks (something that's disappearing fast and furious from our landscapes) there are rolling hills and big skys. When we did our trip, we saw deer and coyotes running around in the fields. There is a candy cabose for some snacks and a lounge car for some drinks. You're free to hang out in the cars, caboose, open air car, or check out all the different cars that each have a different history. When we rolls by the campground the kids and photographers were out to check out the action so we waved at them. Over all it's a pretty relaxed event, the train robbery was kind of interesting, but it's mostly just a fun thing to do in the country for a morning/afternoon or evening. Our ride didn't come with dinner so we ate in the dining car which used to be John Diefenbaker's private car when he was PM ( food was over priced but good - you're a big of a captive audience out there) I wouldn't make this a "must repeat" but I would do it again. I would recommend it for train lovers, kids, and city dwellers that forget what the country is like. read more

The four of us had a hoot drinking our refreshments watching the world go by. The landscape is different for us and was quite interesting. Lots of deer grazing and all sorts of birds of prey flying around. The open air car was fun to go out on such a nice evening. Our waitress said they had the "best chili in the world" and she was close. The three of us really enjoyed it. The robbery at the end surprised us, even though we were expecting it. That funny old lady who entertained us the whole evening ended up robbing us and then stopped the train to meet her brother. The shootout with the sheriff by the cemetery was quite entertaining. Luckily we used the Groupon (and the extra 25% discount) to book this. When ordering the Groupon, it automatically booked you on the train as I called Aspen Crossing to confirm this. A great way to spend 4 hours. On our way back to Calgary driving in the dark country roads, we saw a great horned owl snap up a rodent as we stopped at one of the country 4 way stops. A highlight as this bird was massive as it glided over our car. read more

We just returned from camping at the Northern Alberta Caboose for one night and it was the best camping experience I have ever had. This caboose can fit 6 people . Well worth the money and much more comfortable in my opinion than traditional camping or even the Parks Canada O Tent kits . This is perfect if you like the outdoors but still want hotel accommodation. Staying at a caboose was very cozy and actually better than my stays at some hotels with plenty of room and the cupola on the second level was very neat. Looking forward to coming back for a train trip in the near future. read more

We had great pleasure taking the Aspen Crossing Champagne Brunch train ride today, July 7, 2019! We are veterans of many of these sorts of train rides and this becomes tops on our list! We highly recommend this for special events and for families as well! The ride is well-thought out, managed, planned and executed!!! From the very easy-to-use online website that allowed us to purchase tickets and throughout the entire ride we have nothing but compliments. The service was top-notch and friendly. The buffet was exceptional in variety, quality, quantity, tastiness, and presentation. Also noteworthy was that the temperature of the food was maintained perfectly and we were the last folks in the buffet line! The staff managed the buffet line efficiently as well. Besides the delicious brunch, wonderful entertainment was provided including a guitar/banjo team who serenaded us during the ride. Additionally, friendly actors carried out frequent skits and interaction with the guests that was quite enjoyable! This is a great day trip and easy to access from Calgary if you are visiting the area. Great value and great adventure through the gorgeous prairie lands of Alberta! read more

So very disappointed. We had booked our very first ride on the Polar Express for our children for Christmas and were beyond excited. This is a very expensive splurge, but we felt confident making the commitment as we were reassured that if it were cancelled we would be refunded in full. Unfortunately due to Covid-19 restrictions in AB our tickets were cancelled. While we can appreciate that this is no ones fault, the way in which they have handle these cancellations has been sneaky and dishonest. After the restrictions were announced they changed the policy on their website and are refusing to give refunds. Instead they are offering store credit as the only option. They dealt with similar cancellations in the spring and chose NOT to update their policy at that time and continued to state a full refund would be issued on their website and through the ticket provider. We would not have booked without this guarantee as we recognized that there was a chance it would be cancelled. Most people cannot afford to be out $300-400 at Christmas and still have no gift to give. This has been such a bad experience we will NOT rebook ever again and have had to despute the charges through our credit card due to their dishonesty. So very disappointing as we had heard nothing but good things about them in the past. We will be sure to tell everyone we know, not to support a company that cares so little about their customers, especially at Christmas. I know many businesses that are struggling right now BUT are continuing to conduct their business on a honest and respectable way. read more

We took the wife to Aspen Crossing for her birthday. This was a lot of fun. We started off touring the grounds. We started at the gift shop full of interesting train related items. Next there was a great old converted dining car owned by former Prime Minister Diefenbaker set up as a stationary restaurant. I hear the Friday night prime rib is excellent but we didn't have enough time for a meal before our train ride. When it came time for our train ride, we were greeted by the conductor and boarded the train. The rest of the attraction was more or less what you might expect. A 3 hour train ride in the middle of the Alberta prairie. I believe there was the locomotive and 7 to 9 cars in our train. Each car is quite large and you can walk from one end of the train to the other. All the cars are authentic and some of them have the original decor from about the mid 1940's. There was a bit of excitement along the way as we encountered some train robbers. Drinks and simple meals (hot dogs, hamburgers) were available. There was an enclosed upper observation car and an open air car. The sunset and harvest moon were spectacular. Very enjoyable evening. read more

Have had excellent meals and service here. was facinated by the dining car and of its past history of being the sleeping compartment for Sir Lord Deifenbakers western travelling pullman car. Highly recommend going into the gift shop and nursery with its abundance of fragrant flowers and greenery. They often have murder mystery dinners. Also dont miss train days held each fathers day. They have displays and miniture traim rides for the kids. Sunday brunches are the best in vulcan county...they ways have a fresh and scrumptious assortment of brunch items available. Dont forget to make reservations as seating is limited and they dont have handicap access to the dining car because the aisles are very narrow even for regular ppl. read more

Delightful from start to finish. We stayed in the Union Pacific Caboose and it was spotless. Attention to detail in decor as well. The train ride was lots of fun - campy and entertaining for all ages. Most especially lovely was the warm, attentive customer service. Always a smile and very accommodating. The prices in the camping area general store were oddly inexpensive given the location - which is really in the middle of nowhere - where they could gouge without consequence. That said, prices at this little store were impossibly good. Free wood for the fire pit was a bonus. Highly recommend this attraction. read more

i went on the circus train today and it was fun. the bank robbery portion is entertaining. my only complaint is how it is 3.5 hours for the whole trip, some may enjoy this but i found it one hour too long. overall a fun and recommended experience. read more
