Before starting, the office ran my insurance and provided a written estimate showing about $2,000 total out-of-pocket. Given the scope of work, this seemed reasonable. I agreed to proceed, signed the paperwork, and paid $1,000 upfront, with the remaining balance paid across my appointments as planned. Several months later, I began receiving texts claiming I owed an additional $3,500. I assumed this had to be an error, it didn't seem possible that an estimate of $2,000 could suddenly turn into $6,500 out-of-pocket. When I called, I was told there were insurance issues and that I did in fact owe the additional balance. I spoke with the office multiple times over the following weeks. Eventually, I was assured they would resolve the insurance matter and call me back. That callback never came, so I believed the issue had been handled. Months later, I again started receiving texts and letters stating I owed $3,500. Attempts to contact the office resulted in long hold times and no clear resolution. I am now being told the balance is past due and may be sent to collections. This situation has been extremely stressful. I agreed to treatment based on the estimate provided in good faith. Clear billing communication and accountability are essential, especially for medical care involving large financial commitments.

I want to preface this review by stating that I'm writing this on behalf of my girlfriend, who…read morescheduled an emergency dental appointment at this business on a Monday for a bad tooth ache. We are based out of Tuscaloosa, so we drove an hour and a half one way to ensure we got her dental care for the problem on an emergency basis. We arrived at the dental office to find a note taped to their door stating that the dentist was out of office for the day for a family emergency. The receptionist, who was subtly rude and very curt, scheduled an appointment for the next day. We found later that they had texted us 5 minutes before the appointment date to let us know it needed to be rescheduled. While I can certainly sympathize with family emergencies, the unapologetic attitude of the receptionist was unappreciated. The next day we came to our appointment. Same attitude problem from the receptionist, but she finally got to see a dentist. She waited for probably 45 minutes after being called back, then finally had her teeth examined. Their prognosis was incredible. They claimed that her wisdom teeth had yet to come in yet, despite 2 of them having already broken through the gums. They doubled down and denied it despite her telling them they're there. They told her she would need multiple root canals and numerous cavities that needed to be done as soon as possible. They also said that they would likely need to pull multiple of her molars, as they probably weren't savable with root canals. "There was no saving them." They also pushed and pushed that she needs their own brand of Invisalign braces, which were an exorbitant amount of money. They also pushed gum treatments. The culmination of this Invisalign discussion was verbatim, "if you don't start these treatments, in the next five years you will need to have a full set of dentures," all but saying she will lose all her teeth. We, after receiving two exorbitant quotes of over $10k for services, naturally went and got a second opinion from a local dentist where we found that: 1. Her wisdom teeth are (shockingly) coming in, one needs to be pulled asap. 2. She has a couple cavities that need to be filled. 3. She needs a single root canal. The difference between the two dental exams is shocking and, frankly, speaks clearly to both the disgusting corporate greed this "corporate dentistry" has and the unabashed ignorance of the dentists and dental assistants employed at Aspen Dental in Cullman. This is a clear case of professional misconduct, and, frankly, strikes me as almost insurance fraud, especially if we had went through with their "treatment program." The pressure to upsell small treatments to a full program without justification is patient deception. This dentistry is, to put it plainly, a sham full of inept, fear-mongering, bad-faith employees that predate on the people of Alabama. Needless to say, do not go to this dentistry.

I had severe infection and swelling with an exposed abscessed. I looked into it a little bit but…read morehad no idea people have problems with Aspen as a whole. I understand they deal with a lot of people on the daily but some of the things are just inexcusable. You still have patients who pay money for you to treat them. Dont listen to the machine prompts on the phone for confirming your appointment. If you do, it will send you to an AI assistant that they apparently don't have access to knowing you confirmed with it. I called this TWICE. Once to confirm it, and another to see if the "ai assistant " actually confirmed my appointment and it said it did. This feature shouldn't even be here as a whole if its useless. Make sure you confirm it with someone from the office OR they will reschedule literally the hour of the appointment. The dental assistants are probably the best ones that I interacted with. Receptionist is friendly and just doing her job despite it being inconvenient for a lot of people. Again, I know that this place is very busy. You can still write dental plans though, I don't understand why every time I went in there someone was confused of the care/game plan. My initial visit we planned to pull the tooth out that was causing me a lot of problems at the moment, my first molar. I knew I had more problem teeth but that one is what I needed care for first since it was causing me pain that kept me up all night, swelling, etc. I guess despite discussing this tooth the dentist that was scheduling me decided to write in a whole other tooth, despite it being verbally and thoroughly discussed. On the day of my appointment it was near closing, my dentist refused to wait for the anesthesia to kick in on my tooth despite already attempting to make it loose, drill into it, and yank it. She left me with an incomplete extraction and sent me on my way. Got rescheduled for two days after. The next appointment I got another dentist. He started immediately trying to talk to me about my other teeth, which was a bit pointless since I was of full acknowledgement of it from the initial exam. I guess we all got lost in the plans (it wasnt fully discussed-- and now looking on the paper my initial dentist wrote down the SECOND molar for the care plan. which I KNOW FOR A FACT. Was not the one she tried to pull Monday. The one we discussed the whole time). We went back and forth a little bit, he was professional but it still was redundant. He tried to talk me into a root canal on the tooth that was already attempted to be extracted-- which I declined for root canals all together. Then he suggested pulling the second molar AND the first on the same day, which wasn't discussed. He refused to believe that my first molar was attempted to be pulled. I understand something was written differently on the paper, but I don't understand why I was put up to question. He brought in the dentist from Monday to confirm it. It felt like a weird humiliation ritual while she tried to make me look like a liar. Speaking to me slow, continuing to argue with me. She claimed that the reason why my tooth wasn't pulled Monday is because it was "hard to pull" since it was impacted in my mouth. Which we both knew was false and NOT the tooth she tried to extract. Why? Why wouldn't I remember you sticking a needle into my inflamed gum of my first molar as you tried desperately to numb it? I felt absolutely everything. So I remember good and well what tooth you tried to pull out. Even with all this, why wouldn't someone remember the tooth you tried to yank out. I went home with more intense swelling and Monday from her failed extraction so of COURSE I remember it. Still I dont need to prove myself. After a bit of going back and forth they finally just agreed to pull the tooth. The dentist DID NOT check my blood pressure at all before jumping in, which could be dangerous. Luckily it was quick and easy and he went to work fast unlike the first time. Had some troubles with my antibiotics and refused to call me back. Thanks Aspen

Holly was super quick in getting these done & knew exactly what she was doing. Not to mention that she was incredibly sweet! To my surprise, this super cheap x-Ray also came with a consultation! Doreen checked my gums, taught me a bit about why I was having so much decay. I had so many questions & she so patiently answered them all! I then met with the treatment plan counselor, Courtney, who helped me figure out what promotions were running so I could get discounted! I've easily paid 3x for 1/2 the amount of treatment I got at Aspen. We chatted about what was on my X-rays & the recommended next steps. We then got to work! The office was packed but they figured out ways to squeeze me in, which was super appreciated. I came back the second day. After what must have been a million cavities filled, I feel no pain!!! Woot they even took the time at the end on the fillings to give me a chance to feel around my teeth & told me what to look for (a cliff). Dr. Boling offered that if anything felt weird, they could shape it better! Oh & I almost forgot Gema one of the assistants even took pity on me when I mentioned that I had forgotten to eat breakfast or lunch & gave me some of her food!!! Fair warning, I don't think she brings enough for all patients ;) I definitely recommend this place! Btw - they even have TV at the operating chair! I opted to make Dr. Boling & Gema listen to the Freakanomics podcast instead, haha.
