I want to start out by saying this review is mostly about Aspen Dental in general. The one star review is not for the people in the office. I would rate the Doctors and the Hygienists here 5 out of 5 all day. They were always kind, caring and knowledgeable. If I had any questions they went out of their way to answer it. No problems there. The problem is Aspen Dental when it comes to billing and coding. I have never and I do mean NEVER got the 2 free preventive cleanings from them that my Dental insurance benefits says I get every year. I have ALWAYS HAD TO PAY. I have been going for 4 years now. I have fought consistently with the billing and coding part for a while. They ask for both Medical and Dental cards to be presented when you're at your appointment...Will they use both? NOPE. Will they make sure to put a completely different number so that it won't get covered and billed correctly? YEP. I literally have pre paid for a procedure months in advance just to be told that I needed to pay EVEN MORE AFTER A YEAR IT WAS DONE. I literally paid for it so I wouldn't have to get a surprise bill for it. I had to force them to get information to my Healthcare provider so I could even use my benefits that was I paying through my workplace..If you guys don't take this insurance or for some reason you don't know how to bill or code it correctly to them..THEN JUST SAY WE DON'T TAKE THIS PROVIDER..If you're in this far, think twice before coming into an Aspen Dental and be sure they get both insurance cards into the system or you'll be paying for every "free preventive cleaning" after you've already made the next appointment. read more

Update: since that last review I've had 2 more reschedules. Also my initial implant was lost and they had no digital record of images taken so I had to go back in for new scans. Once the second tooth arrived the first dentist was unable to get it to fit properly. So we came in another time to see the main dentist was also unable to get the tooth to fit. upon further scan review he found that the titanium post was cracked. (I'm wondering if all the torquing from 2 dentist had anything to do with this). So he was able to remove the cracked post and re graft the hole. Keep in mind I spent a good amount of money on a graft from another dentist before even coming to Aspen. So the dentist tells me to let the graft heal and come back in 2 months. I'm not sure why he said 2 months because everywhere I read it says 6 months. Fast forward to today. I was left a voice message on 11/15/24 at 12:51pm (I state the time because thats on a Friday and the practice is only open until1pm) graft will need more time to heal so appointment needs to be postponed. Well appointment was for Monday 11/18 at 10:30am. If you read this you can see a pattern. I'm not trying to be a jerk here. Everyone here as people are wonderful but the follow through is terrible. I took a friend to this location, and after a consultation that took about 3 hours, we went into the managers office, and she talked to us about pricing like we were buying a new car. They told my friend that she would need to have 20,000$ of work done, and had her apply for care credit. All she wanted was a bridge, for a front tooth that had been knocked out. They, of course told her she had to do the deep cleaning. They did not send the prescription for the anxity med prior to the deep cleaning, and extraction (the removed a tooth they found that all of sudden needed to be removed) and did not send the prescription for the pain medication after that, and she had to come in for a second cleaning. They told her she would need another two cleanings before getting fit for her bridge. For the x rays, consulation, half the deep clean, and extraction they charged her 1500. My friend was in absolute tears about this. Because she could have gotten everything she needed done for that much if she stayed at her regular dentist. I will not reccommend anyone go here. I showed up to my appointment a half hour early and still had to wait twenty minutes past my appointment time even though five others walked in after me and went right back before me. I was in a terrible amount of pain and they had no problems shoving this contraption into my mouth for X rays. Like they had Zero concern. I got a total of 8 shots of novacaine. They wore off in two hours and i was in more pain than I was when I arrived. They promised to send me prescriptions but when they found out I had prescriptions already from the ER the day before, they just let me go, not even giving me a consultation about the future of my smile which thanks to this rotten broken tooth is gone forever. I would have loved some more comforting besides "Oh, looks like you won't have much bite surface to work with!" I was humiliated. And since when does regular old tooth extractions cost $500???!! I've never been so depressed in my life. read more

Not normally a review type of person. but I had an amazing experience at Aspen. The ladies at the front desk did above and beyond to help me get the care I need. Was nervous going in after reading some of the reviews but I couldn't have ask for a better care. From the front desk staff, to the dental assistant and dentist all of then made me feel relaxed and taken care of, i could not have asked for a better a team for my dental care. 10/10 will be back in the near future to get more dental work! My review of this place is 100% accurate. They will make you pay upfront, screw you around on appointments, they'll have no idea why you have an appointment, charge you for procedures they don't do, and if you ever get to the end of the nightmare, hopefully without needing surgery to repair the damage they do, you'll get a bill you don't owe, a bill from your insurance saying overcharged and want you to pay. I really hope if your reading this you understand I am dead serious about this place. I'm now 17 months into this still needing what I needed when I started, 5500.00 out the window with only more time and money in court. read more

Horrible place, I was in so much pain (and still am a month later to the point I am going to ER) and was told they would not fix the problem tooth until i paid $2300 for a deep cleaning. I called 3 other dentist and they all said every dentist will get you out of pain, then start a treatment plan to fix the issue. Aspen also told me I had an infection but offered no treatment (antibiotics) for that either. They were quik to get my credit ran for fiancing for a credit card I have never heard of, then looking at the reviews of the credit card. They were awlful. read more

I was almost given a root canal that I didn't need. Turns out it was a piece of popcorn husk below the gum line (found at the last minute). I question their competency. Another thing was that the front office charged me a penalty for a past due bill I was never told about. No bill through the mail; nothing was ever told to me and I asked every time I was in there if I had any balance due. I don't dispute a past due balance. I'll pay it if I owe it. I have a problem with the penalty charged for something I was never told about. I will never go back to them. I found a new dentist. read more

Absolutely AWFUL place to try to go if you're having a dental emergency anywhere near their time of closing. My Husband rushed in there after work - or at least tried and they had the doors locked 30 min before they were even supposed to close. When I called, they confirmed they didn't close for 30 more minutes. When he finally got someone to come to the door they refused to see him despite being in a TON of pain, a GROWN MAN crying his eyes out because he's in more pain than any broken bones he's ever had. You didn't take him seriously and sent him on his way to go figure something else out while he's in agonizing pain. When I called I was told they didn't see anyone who looked like him, got put on hold, then sent to a voicemail box that repeated the same message 4 times before it ended the call. I couldn't leave a voicemail. I will be canceling our appointment that we made on the off chance he could make it until morning because it's clear these people couldn't care any less. Aspen did me a huge solid today; they are having a nationwide outage of their phone and computer systems and still took me as a walk in to help ease my big mouth pain. The dentist I saw was kind and gentle. She talked me through exactly what she was doing to help ease my dental anxiety. I will be going back there for the rest of my dental needs. read more

PLEASE save yourself or any family from having any experiences with this business. My mom who lives by herself fell in to a sales scheme to get her dentures she 80yrs old and they promised her the world when it came to her teeth. This was far from the truth they almost killed her!!!!! Dec. 20th 2023 Dr. D'Angelo felt it necessary to extract two teeth that had an infection. My mom did question her but she had informed her that it was going to be OK. It was not. Dr.D'Angelo was less worried about my mother and more concerned about a party she needed to get to. They did not give her any antibiotics or painkillers but directed her to keep her dentures in. Well, she became septic. We will be filing formal complaints with my mom's doctor and talking to a lawyer. I felt I needed to let other families be aware of what they do and the carelessness of their actions. My mom is doing better no thanks to Dr.D'Angelo. read more

I was there a week or so ago, I had a great experience! I was in and out. Jada ( the dental assistant who helped me ) was very kind and welcoming talked for awhile and enjoyed some laughs on the way. I never leave any reviews, but this place is horrible. I wish I could leave a 0 star review to be honest. I made two appointments and they booked on top of my appointment both times. I had to find someone to watch my baby, and then when I got there they had me wait for 20 min just for someone to talk to me. Bad service. I'd had a horrible experience here that lasted for well over a year. It's for that reason I'm only giving the Independence office a three star rating. Maybe others got good service here but I sure didn't. Thankfully, their customer satisfaction team came in and saved the day. I wasn't pleased with my dentures. I found out later they were not only out of center, they were crooked as well and the Independence team knew about it, but they didn't want to spend the extra money to get the job done right. Kudos to Mr. Cory who stepped in and made sure I was satisfied. I told him I'd like to use the Lee's Summit office instead of the Independence one. I did and I must say I'm very happy with the results. It took over a year but in the end, I'm very happy with my new smile and my new teeth. Made appointment for my 95 year old Dad to get bottom dentures replaced. Had to arrange transport from nursing home. Appointment was at 11:00 am. Told to arrive 15 min before appointment. Got there and the office was closed until 11:00 for lunch. Had to wait in van until they opened doors, it was 35 degrees that day. Got in when doors opened and waited over an hour for the insurance person to see us. Explained to the receptionist he had a van waiting for him. She didn't care. Felt if they were this way on a first visit the next visits would be the same. Very rude and uncaring to a 95 year old person. Terrible experience, we walked out after a 5 min meeting with the insurance person. Probably would have waited another hour to see the dentist. Will never go here and have told friends of our experience. Avoid this place. read more

Avoid this place at all cost! Patient care is nonexistent. I went in for a simple cavity fill. Staff told me I had life threatening gum disease (seriously, they more I refused to sign a contract for expensive unnecessary painful dental work the more dramatic they got). After almost 3 hours into my scheduled appointment and no work completed I requested to leave. The staff refused to put the chair into a seated position and twice the dentist attempted to block my movement. This so-called health professional even followed me out to my car yelling that I was going to die if I didn't immediately start the gum disease. Imagine my surprise when I saw a totally different dentist at a different practice later and found I have zero gum disease. read more

I recently had part of a filling fall out, so I went to Aspen Dental for an exam and X-rays so this could be addressed. They said I needed a crown to replace it and quoted me a fair price for that. I've had crowns before and know what they cost. If they would have left it at that, I would have accepted. Instead, they talked to me about several deep periodontal cleanings I would need, using scare tactics such as possible dentures in the future to illustrate why this is necessary. Then I was taken into a small room to talk pricing; I started to feel like I was at a car dealership at this point. The price they quoted me for the crown and three cleanings was over $4,500, and they talk fast and push things along just like any good salesperson. They offer financing with extremely high interest rates - excellent credit apparently isn't taken into consideration with their financing options, because I've never had a loan or even a credit card with such a high rate. This is a place designed to take advantage of people with no insurance or bad credit, or people who simply don't know any better, and I felt like a fool for even giving it a chance. At least I was able to take my X-rays to a reputable dentist to get the care I needed without paying thousands of dollars. Avoid this place. read more

Would of gladly recommended Aspen dental of Independence until I came back and Dr.Riddick was gone and Dr.Edward Shameieh came here! No one told me when I made my appointment that all the dentist I was used to were gone! Edward Shameieh is the rudest health care person I have EVER had to deal with. Was very rude from the start and never once made me feel comfortable! Kept judging me, asking me why I waited to come in and being very rude! (It really is none of his busisness but I was taking care of other health issues and was trying to get all of my dentist work done as well. & not to mention they changed the total I owed three times!!!! ) People in health care are supposed to make you feel comfortable and better!! This man did the total opposite!! I was upset about how he was acting and how I was getting treated! After I waited an hour and a half for them to start and he already made me cry twice!!! I posted on my personal snap chat saying I definitely won't be coming back to independence aspen dental.. by coincidence a girl from high school works here she showed him and he came out to where I was sitting waiting for my x ray copies, he then started yelling at me and saying I'm not welcome here while showing me the snap chat!! I moved to the area recently and had an infected tooth so I went there cause they could get me in soon during Covid. They made me wait 2 hours to get my tooth pulled (and it took him literally less than 5 minutes to do) and it was horrible. The dentist didn't seem to care at all. Now 2 days later I have to call and ask why they didn't drain the infection after I asked 3 different people when I was there how it would go away/if I was getting antibiotics. Its late june and 90 degrees outside been waiting for an hour now. Two elderly people also had apt at 1 and waiting outside in line when an air conditioned waiting room could be used. I'd had some problems with this place from time to time but, thanks to Cory, their regional manager, everything seems to have worked out nicely. I know I paid quite a bit for my dentures but after months of seeing what my friends were getting with their discounted prices on their dentures, I'm glad I made the choice to go to Aspen Dental. Yes, I paid more but, in the end, I'm going to be much happier with quality dentures and a professional staff to help me through the process. Kudos to Cory and Maria.
