I'm writing this review to help others avoid what my son went through at this Aspen Dental location. He's an incredibly strong, capable adult who rarely asks for help--but after this experience, he was in so much pain and confusion, he asked me, his mom, to step in and advocate for him. That alone should tell you something. He initially went in on April 10, 2025, for a cleaning and to get a treatment plan for his wisdom teeth. He left thinking everything had gone well--until we found out he'd been charged $300 for an oral care kit he believed was complimentary. They scheduled him for extractions on April 16. During that visit, the dentist attempted to remove his impacted lower right wisdom tooth. The procedure lasted nearly an hour. The tooth fractured, and the dentist left part of it in the socket, telling my son it was fused to the molar in front of it and that if he wanted the rest of the tooth removed, they would also need to pull that molar. He was sent home in extreme pain, given only Motrin and antibiotics, and told to return if the roots worked their way out. Over the next 8 days, the pain did not let up. He couldn't sleep. He experienced nightmares about the procedure. No one from the office followed up. No imaging was done. No surgical referral was offered. I accompanied him back to Aspen Dental on April 24 to request better care. The office staff was professional and apologetic, and they did apply dry socket treatment--but only after he endured six more injections to tolerate the pain. The dentist, however, was short-tempered and defensive. When I asked a basic question about aftercare, he cut me off and asked if I was a lawyer. Thankfully, the next day, Gideon went to Joplin Oral Surgery, where they removed the remaining fragment and both upper wisdom teeth without incident. Under anesthesia, he finally received proper care. The oral surgeon confirmed there was no fusion between the wisdom tooth and molar--meaning Aspen Dental's justification for leaving it in was not only wrong, it could have cost him a healthy tooth. This has been a traumatic ordeal for my son--physically and emotionally. We've filed formal complaints with the Missouri Dental Board, Aspen Corporate, and the BBB--not to punish, but to protect future patients. Please consider a second opinion if you need anything more than a basic cleaning. We learned the hard way that this clinic is not equipped for complex extractions, and the consequences were severe. read more

Aspen dental review 1000.00 lesson learned and mistake. I'm going to have to change that 5 star review. If there were a -5 I would do that one and I'm not Karen. I'm a major people pleaser. To a fault sometimes but this was crazy. You may as well go across the street while you can to affordable dentures where they are honest, good at what they do, and looking out for you not only themselves at your expense. First she tried to get me into a 1000.00 extra on interest payments through in house financing. AFTER I JUST TOLD HER NO THANK YOU. I can't there because I have a care credit credit card And was going to use their 18 month no interest promotional financing. I'm glad I read the paper she gave me to sign. I said oh no this isn't care credit. I'm not paying 1000.00 extra interest. I came here because of care credit. It would've been 3500. Not 2500. She said oh let me see if we have that. That tells me right their she was full of crap. I'm starting at the pamphlet I just got from HER DESK! she is the FINANCE MANAGER! She knows they have that. She should've said oh, you did tell me that, my mistake. But she didn't she said, let me see if we have it, and played stupid. Anyways, so she says, of here it is, we do have that option and fixed it. Then talked me into a cleaning I only got to help them out because my insurance pays for it once a year so it didn't matter when or where I got it. Turned out she bills me under a paradontal cleaning which is coded different she only said, AFTER I was charged, they messed up on my teeth and I WANTED MY REFUND. I also had night two tooth brushes for 300.00 that I didn't need again of you are good to me I'm good to you. I was trying real hard. I even wanted to like the teeth but they looked like a horse. A denture wearers worse nightmare. He took teeth out the back and kept adjusting them but I told him the teeth were way too big and there's no adjustments that call fix that. I offered to get a cheaper smaller denture and he could've changed the teeth but didn't want to. So for 2500. Aspen dental could only do the top denture and cleaning. The bottom they said was another 1400. Or so. And said my insurance didn't pay anything. When I asked for my refund for the teeth after two weeks and give appointments of adjustments and not being heard, she took off the 1600. But I still owe 1000.00 and I'm going to call tomorrow again to have her call or try my insurance again. She said she would check to see if they covered anything but I know she didn't even check. How? Well I went across the street and for top and bottoms EVERYTHING was only 1067.00 my insurance paid for half plus the whole visit fee. Still it would've been 4k over at Aspen. If you want good people with great integrity that are good at what they do and looking out for you. Then put it in reverse Terry and go across the street to affordable dentures.​ I don't normally write reviews but people need to know because that's an expensive horrible experience that no one should have to go through. The lady at affordable checked and my insurance pays for half of my dental procedures up to 4k a year so I'll be calling again tomorrow for this full. 768.00 balance I shouldn't owe in full. read more

I've been to many dentists and orthodontists in my life. My SIL is an orthodontist. My previous dentist was the husband of my primary care doctor. They attended my church and made annual trips to Mexico and Central America to provide free medical services to people in need. I share this to say that I've always seen dentists as respectable professionals who were trustworthy as people. I recently relocated to MO, wanted to find a new dentist and become an established patient. Aspen Dental was offering free X-rays & an exam so I decided to take up their offer and have my teeth cleaned at the same time. When I called to schedule the appointment, I was told the cleaning would have to wait so I settled on the free services only. When I arrived at the clinic, I was surprised at the large number of X-rays I was to have. This was months ago and the exact number eludes me but I believe it was something like 13. I've never heard of any dentist needing so many X-rays but I agreed. After they were done, I saw the dentist. He was a friendly young man. He said that all of my teeth looked good and that I could schedule the cleaning with the woman down the hall. I was escorted to her office. Thinking this would be a quick matter of finding the right date & time, she began going over each step that would be included with the cleaning. As she talked, her mannerisms were a bit distracting. She constantly tugged at her hair and was rather . . . twitchy. I wondered if she had a medical problem. I wondered if she was on some kind of drug. As she finished going over the cleaning procedures with me, she asked if I wanted to schedule an appointment. Of course I said 'yes'. That was the main reason I had come in in the first place! But first I wanted to know how much the cleaning would cost. She handed me a print out of each item and the total cost. Thousands of dollars!? I was shocked. I was in disbelief. Then she said she would collect the cost in advance. Red flags went up for me. 'Pay in advance?' I asked. I've never had to pay in advance for any dental services in all of my 70+ years. When I refused, she said I could pay a portion in advance. 'That is not how I do business' I replied. Then she presented me with a form stating that I agreed to pay $xxx for their services and said I would have to sign it. I was amazed that she produced this form so quickly and wondered how many other patients had refused this pressure to pre-pay a ridiculous amount for dental services. On the page, it stated that this was 'not a legally binding' document. Dumbfounded, I was reassured that on the paper it stated that this document is not 'legally binding'. I could only imagine that this one statement was the only thing that prevented these dentists from losing their licenses to practice. I signed the form. My appointment was scheduled and I walked out in a state of shock. The whole encounter left me speechless. I felt like I had just been the victim of a bait-&-switch scam. I wondered if the woman's twitchiness was from 'crack' rather that some benign medication. It took some time for my senses to return. I couldn't believe I was just in the office of professional dentists. They advertise free X-rays then make up the cost by asking an insane cost for their other services and by pressuring patients for payment in full prior to service. Go there is you are ok with this. I will never return to any Aspen Dental. I'll pay fair market price for dental X-rays and cleaning any day rather that put up with this nonsense again. Needless to say, I cancelled my cleaning and I found a dentist from recommendation of a trusted doctor in town, a dentist who charges normal rates without gimmicks or twitchy employees. read more

I really liked the dentist, the patient representative (girl at the front desk) and wasn't particularly happy with the people taking X-rays but I could live with that. I have never met a hygienist however who appears to elevate herself above the dentist! I'm not sure where she got her high horse but I hope someone knocks her off it. And I'm sure someone will because she's so annoyingly "professional and proud" there's no way she's getting by with that forever. I wanted a cleaning and she refused unless I paid $600 out of pocket. I really felt like she was gouging my insurance company. I'll get the crown I paid for but after that's done neither hubby nor I will be going back. If you do go, make sure you don't get the fake blonde. I'm sure that working on you is beneath her too! read more

Made my first appointment for my daughter. I spoke with someone that same day and then showed up at the confirmed time. I was then told they tried to confirm the apt but I didn't answer so they canceled. What? So, after taking time off of work, they would still not see my her and wanted to reschedule. I will absolutely never go back or recommend this dentist office. read more

I went in to have a back tooth surgically removed, which they did. At that time, I got a temporary healing partial. A few days layer, I notice a bad pain under the partial, as a piece of bone was still sticking out of my gum. At my follow up appointment, the dentist did nothing to remove it and sent me home in pain, still not able to wear the partial. I went back in for yet a second follow up and another dentist raached in there and removed the bone sticking out. With no problems. Of course, still not able to wear the partial that cost me and my insurance $1000. Flash forward 6 weeks, they were supposed to fix the partial and just this morning, I got it back. THEY DID NOTHING TO IT!!! 6 weeks without it. What's the point now? It was supposed to be a temporary healing partial. Now they want another $217 balance for something I STILL can't use! read more

Every appointment you have you get a different dentist ! DR SOTO pulled teeth that was not to be pulled! then the crown they put on broke within a month. The parcel dentures they made the teeth size was baby teeth and no way match my teeth. Ran my bill up over $8000!! I told them when they said I qualified for $8000 loan i could afford that high loan , they said don't worry about it. The dentures were never remade, and they still have them. I'm not usually one to write reviews but this needs to be done. Aspen Dental is absolutely AMAZING! I will never fear the dentist again! Everyone from Kelly at the desk to Dana and Dr.Soto were so far beyond any dental visit I've ever experienced. I had 3 extractions and honestly honestly honestly never felt a thing! Even the numbing shots....didn't feel a thing! Because of their attitude, the thorough explanation by the awesome account girl, the great job by hygienist, their HONESTY, and most importantly the level of care they give, I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend the Aspen Dental Team in Joplin, MO. read more

I had an extremely unpleasant experience at aspen dental. I am only 20 and have never had to do many of these types of things independently yet and instead of helping me and making me feel welcome they seemed annoyed of my ignorance on the matter. Understanding that they are busy I expected to have to wait a bit and patients is something I practice very well. After and assistant told me the doctor would be with me soon, I was left I. The office for nearly 48 minutes without any consideration of a check in or an update on what was happening. The doctor visit was short, unthourough, unhelpful, impersonal, and my prescription was missing information to where the pharmacist had to call for clarifications. They want me to come back however I will certainly be going elsewhere. read more

This is my third set of dentures in 20 years. These were made in March and are the worst dentures I've ever had, even though they cost as much as all three of the other ones put together! Been back at least 10 times for adjustments and they just fit worse! Teeth don't line up, can't bite and unable to chew correctly! These were supposed to be the best so certainly would hate to see the cheapest! No comfortfit in my mouth! The staff is very pleasant, but I wouldn't recommend the dentures to anyone! I had an excellent experience with Dr Soto and his staff. I was so happy to learn my cleaning was free. I was amazed at how quickly I was seen by first the dental assistant and then Dr Soto. After reading my dental films, Dr Soto was honest and open about the treatments I needed and the amount of time it would take. He made me feel comfortable and included in the conversation about my dental care, and was encouraging throughout. I have never felt more relaxed in a dentist chair! I can't speak for all Aspen Dental offices, but this place is all about taking advantage of the poor, uninsured, and elderly. The dentists still use film x-rays and do not prescribe any pain medications after extractions. My mom did not need a full deep cleaning, and they credited her account; however, they will not allow her to use this credit towards further treatment. The office manager supposedly submitted a refund request over a month ago, and it still has not been acted on. Furthermore, if you need to put your treatments on payments, and you have decent credit, do not apply for a Dental First account. You can find zero interest credit card offers. Dental First does not offer automatic payments, and if you miss a payment, you will be charged interest from the first day of the first charge. read more

Terrible. My wife had work done here. Her crown fell off twice. They tried to pretend it was because she had an abscess. They tried to set her up with a "specialist" to have another root canal. When we tried to get the x-rays so we could get a second opinion, they gave us year old x-rays. We finally got the "infected" tooth x-ray to give to another dentist. He was super confused as to why they tried to get her a root canal. So no infection, no root canal, just a crown getting put on correctly by a different dentist. I won't even talk about the unprofessional receptionists they have working here. Do not go here, seek help elsewhere. read more

Really happy with my experience at Aspen. Everybody there has been so nice and helpful every time I've gone. Getting a root canal done here next week and I feel like I'll be in great hands. They also take my dental discount plan, Careington, which anybody who doesn't have insurance should have! Huge discounts on all dental work, even cleanings. read more
