Update. I wrote a review in 2024. My husband & I were new to Knoxville, from Florida, and our 22 year old daughter was on summer break from college. We (stupidly) decided on Aspen Dental for her routine cleaning/ checkup. She had always had perfect teeth, but one tooth was feeling a little sensitive and was being monitored by her dentist in Florida for a few years. We were shocked when Aspen Dental told her she had 8 teeth with surface decay and beginning stages of gingivitis! She would need special cleanings and would need 8 fillings!!! We had no reason to question them. It was a summer of pain and misery for her. The first dentist was young. He messed up every single filling! They all had to be redone by a more experienced dentist. The staff was incredibly unprofessional, gossiping about each other while working on her, and continually downplaying her pain. One tooth with "surface decay" ended up, with the pathetic excuse for a dentist, hollowing out that tooth, and leaving it that way. We had to go back, multiple times, and have a more experienced dentist redo all of her fillings- )She used to like going to the dentist until her traumatic experiences in the Aspen Dental West Knoxville location. Today, she finally worked up the courage to see a dentist in Cleveland Ohio. Her fillings on the two teeth have never been right. When she would floss, the floss would break, because the fillings were so rough between those two teeth. Her new hygienist, in Cleveland Ohio, was surprised at the poor work on the fillings. Now, she needs a root canal on the teeth that, supposedly, had "surface decay." I'm about to say something that sounds crazy. Prior to this, she never had a single cavity. When she went to Aspen Dental, she only had one tooth that had discomfort, and may have had a cavity. We were shocked when Aspen dental told us she had 8 cavities. We, now, strongly suspect they lied. We believe they drilled into healthy teeth for money. We believe Aspen Dental lied about the amount of work she needed done and drilled healthy teeth. Something is very wrong about them. We are so upset and angry. This has caused daily misery for my daughter. She walked in with one sensitive tooth, and now her teeth are permanently impacted. I called the number Aspen Dental provided in response to my add. After getting kicked off of a "press 1 or 2" carousel a few times I was connected with someone in the billing dept. They offered to connect me with a regional manager "complaint line." I declined having already done this and sent emails several times with no response. It seems Aspen's insincere offer to help was for readers of the reviews benefit rather then mine. More likely it was an autobot's response that monitors all forums for negative comments akin to their customer concern lines and customer care email addresses being black holes. I'm so upset. They gave me dentures that are cutting the inside of my mouth. I can't eat anything, not even soup, because it burns the cuts caused by dentures. I've called and showed up begging for help and they are telling me it will be a week before they can help me because they're too busy. They weren't too busy when they took my money. I had implant supported dentures at aspen dental at this location, they made the entire thing extremely comfortable, Dr. Andrew Ferraro the surgeon wasn't scared to give me the pain meds I needed after surgery and implant uncovering, and he was very caring about the anxiety I was experiencing and even let me go under anesthesia for the uncovering, he did an excellent job. The staff was kind and patient with me, and the temporary dentures fit perfectly even without adhesive. I'm sorry people have had bad experiences, but I just do not see the problem here. They stated needed deep cleaning after dentist looked at teeth and x-rays and said looked good. Only visited because my original dentist retired. Now saying they wanted to pay over $500 and I have insurance that pays 80%. Billing person was very ...not rude but not pleasant. Wish could go get 2nd opinion...checking with insurance. My Name is Brenda, I got upper denture. within 2 months I had swallowed 3 teeth. The denture was thin rough. The teeth were very pretty, Aspen treatment was as if I was trying to get something for nothing when I asked for a new set, Aspens reply was we will repair only. As of today I no longer wear them I just look at the pretty teeth... by the way another tooth fell out. I got dentures when I was 15 I'm now 77. You get the picture??? I thought I had found a good dentist to rely on at Aspen Dental but, unfortunately, I can no longer depend on him or his staff. My disappointment came when my personal dentist at this facility would not respond to a letter I sent addressed to him (Attention: Dr. Patel) to ask about a $633 charge, nor did any member of his staff respond ( I actually sent two letters). I had spoken to someone in the office and she told me she would refile the claim. So I didn't pay immediately. Insurance denied it, which I knew it would, so I wanted to speak to Dr. Patel about it. He never responded. When I turned up a couple of weeks later for my routine check-up, the staff denied my visit and told me I have to pay the charge before Dr. Patel would see me again. Now, I always pay my bills, even if its on a payment plan, but I wanted to talk to Dr. Patel about this particular charge because I was trying to avoid it. Because he left the examining room after I asked about insurance paying for this charge (I assume) to check with the insurance person at the desk, I thought he had verified that the procedure would be covered. It's a $633 misunderstanding, which I am paying off at $50 a month. Herein lies my problem with Aspen: it is run like a business rather than a healthcare facility. The most offensive part is their refusal to see me for my check-up and cleaning (which is 100 per cent covered - no charges would have been incurred). I must have healthcare providers that answer my letters or phone calls. I cannot be thought of as such an insignificant patient that neither doctor or staff can take the time to answer my questions. In retrospect, although Dr. Patel is excellent in every way (except communication), the front desk has always been difficult. Snooty and uncaring. I AM THINKING OF A CLASS ACTION SUIT! Switch and bait mean anything to you? If not, it could after your visit. I was quoted a price for my bottom implants. I asked for the 20% off discount. It took me about to walk out for her to " give it to me". I need to know the true total because I was withdrawing from my retirement. She gave a paper work with detailed action and cost. Like I said finally gave me 20% off... Not. She did show me a different amount due finally, I wrote it down on the paper work that had the original total.It turns out there was 2 procedures I didn't get. Post discount the total was just over $800.00 due back to me. Note, I paid in-full before the start of the work, So I wanted my money back, because work wasn't done. I was told, I could have a credit. I told them I wanted my cash back. They said I had a balance. I told them no I didn't. I paid in-full. An awful experience. I was in need of a procedure and was told by the person who called me, they will take care of me next day. Arrived to the office in Chapman Hwy Knoxville TN, and nobody explained anything. Sogned paperwork, I was asked to do X-Rays, a comprehensive evaluation, and to schedule a new appointment for another procedure and an additional appointment for the procedure I originally asked for!!!. And nobody explained this from the beginning, nether the person who called me, neither the office personnel. Oh, and of course, they want to bill my dental plan for rendered services thay did on their own,without explaining anything before. I will never return neither recommend Aspen Dental to anyone. I have dentures from another company. I use to live in Indiana so these are not from Aspen Dental. I had a tooth fall out a couple years ago and called Aspen to ask if they could repair. They did. Now a year later that tooth is cracked. I called Aspen to ask if they could repair. They said they will need x-rays. Not sure why. I had xrays taken just a few weeks ago at my regular dentist. My dentist said they would be glad to email to Aspen. The receptionists said the doctor will only use his own xrays. I told them I'm sure insurance won't cover xrays since I just had them. They couldn't help me fix my fake cracked tooth without their own xrays. I asked if they knew of anyone else who could. They suggested I try Affordable Dental. I told them I would and I would give them a review. I would NOT recommend Aspen. read more

Then decided I would use them for a filling and a crown needed and told that I could not get any other dental work done until I paid $500 out of pocket for a deep cleaning. WONDERFUL customer service!!!!!! Dr. Patel very professional/ efficient. Dr Patel and staff ensured that I understood all aspects of service(s) provided. For example, when I received my 1st root canal, Dr. Patel explained everything utilizing the x-ray results, he was very supportive and thorough when explaining the painless procedure. Which essentially assisted with relieving my root canal anxiety. In addition to my 1st root canal I required a front tooth crown, Dr. Patel provided detail assistance once again utilizing x-rays to ensure I understood the final results of my crown & provided referral accordingly to address any gum tissue cosmetic concerns. I've been trying for three weeks now to get insurance claim filed through Aspen Dental at Kingston Pike location. My wife was charged for the service at full price because they did not file the insurance claim stating that the insurance was not active. She was forced to pay at time of service and told that when insurance was fixed, she would be refunded. I called the insurance, there was no issue. I then called office and spoke first with Jessica who said she would get the insurance filed and update me with the refund. However, she never returned the call. The next week, I called and spoke with Natalie who stated that they were awaiting a fax from insurance regarding claim and she would request the fax and update me on progress. Again, no call back. I have rechecked with my insurance, there is no issue on insurance end. My only assumption is that because Aspen dental has cash in hand, they have no reason to follow up with insurance. We absolutely will not use this office again and I will be checking to see what legal actions can be pursued. Absolutely ridiculous. I wish we would have looked at all the reviews prior to service as Aspen Dental very obviously has some issues. read more

I would rate 0 star if that's an option. I just moved to TN and went to them as my dental provider. Then they said I have 5 caviats and need cleaning. During the filling, the nurse was impatient for the numb to take effect, and gave my 4 shots of numb at different locations, I'm pretty sure it was over-dosed as it didn't recover until about 8 hours later. After the filling, I felt it was too tall and i asked them to fix it. After that my entire lower jaw started to feel pain. Besides their poor service, their pre-charged me for the next few services, I thought it was normal practice but it was actually totally scam. My front bridge fell out in March 2022. The rest of my teeth were too bad to repair. I had all of the upper ones extracted. The temporary denture was uncomfortable but I was hoping the permanent one be a lot better. I got the permanent one in September 2022. I have tried getting use to it for over a year. It is horrible. I can't talk right and I have almost stopped going anyplace. I leave it in my mouth several hours a day but I am miserable. I went back several times and had it adjusted. I was lucky to get 5 to 10 minutes each time. It never helped. After 6 months the dentist told me to leave it overnight. I did and he relined it. My insurance was charged $333. I was not told this was going to happen. It didn't feel one bit better. I thought they had a guarantee for at least a year. I was wrong. I have sent them letters telling them how bad the denture is. They have my home phone number and my email address but they don't bother to respond. Once they have your money they could care less about you. read more

Nothing but bad experiences with Aspen! A couple years ago, had fillings in lower front teeth done 3 times! Each time they came out in a week or less. Finally gave up! Didn't go back until Nov. 2019 when porcelain came off a crown. The porcelain was glued back on, but it came off again in about a week. This time I lost the piece of porcelain and I went back to see what could be done to repair the crown. He talked about ordering a special material to bond and said it wouldn't be white. I didn't care, I just wanted the metal covered with something! The office manager was supposed to call me when the material came in and they got his schedule. She did not! It took me 3 months to get another appointment with the same doctor! He repaired the crown and it was white; so it couldn't have been the material he told me 3 months prior he was ordering. It had been so long that he probably forgot what he told me he was going to use. It did look good for a few days and I was very careful not to chew on it at all, but it didn't even last a week! So, I'm back where I started - having to keep my mouth shut and not being able to smile. Also, they wanted over $10,000 to replace my crowns and that was with insurance! read more

My husband and I were new patients and booked back to back appointments for a Saturday. I booked mine over the phone and he booked his online. We both received multiple confirmations for the appointment via email and text. On the day of the appointment the office was closed and not a car to be seen. We waited 10 minutes past the scheduled appointment time to see if maybe someone was running late to open. My mother drove an hour to babysit for us so we could get our appointments done after waiting over a year because of covid. What a waste of time. read more

The Kingston Pike office in Knoxville, Tn is refusing to honor the terms of the seven year warranty on the Comfilytes. A tooth fell out while eating a sandwich. ​When called to get it fixed I was informed that "about a year ago" this office changed their policy and now requires a dental exam costing $230 ​if it has been more than a year since they have examined the patient. This was not the deal that was signed for in 2017. It was not required when the warranty was used once before (more than one year after the exam). This feels like a price gouging and warranty breaching abuse of power. I called another office to see if they could help. They said they do not charge to honor the warranty, but would have to have an exam to be established as a patient in their office. The Aspen Dental offices are independently owned. Corporate can not help. I would strongly advise using a different location in this area. Not only is a very expensive exam required to get a tooth glued back in, this greatly drags out the length of time that a patient has to go without their dentures. read more

Avoid! Avoid like the plague! These people are nothing but money hungry and uncaring for anyone but themselves! I was in extreme pain! I needed a root canal, I knew I needed a root canal, I told them I needed a root canal, did they care? No! The initial exam was only $19 so I can't complain about that. However, after the exam, the dentist came in he shook my hand, asked how i was feeling, and I told him I was in extreme pain. After telling me everything I was doing wrong and skirting around the issue, he informed me that I need all this extra work before I could have a root canal, and it would be 3 weeks plus before I could have it done. WHAT!? I needed a root canal, thats it and I needed it right then! So, after talking with him, (VERY BRIEFLY I might add) I was guided into the finance office, and this woman was just awful! The worst woman I have ever met! She didn't care about anything but getting the money and bleeding me dry! She said that everything I needed totaled up to $11,500! WHAT? ARE YOU KIDDING ME!? I looked at her and said "All I need is a root canal, thats it, all this other crap will have to wait. I need this taken care of now!" Her response; "We will not do it, unless you have this "OTHER" work done first." I said alright, I don't have $11,500 just lying around. She said "We offer finance options through 3rd party outlets." Which the co-pay would still be $3,000. Yeah, not happening. I told her that was out of the question. She then told me "That's tough. ...Thats tough? Really? I told her I would go elsewhere, she didn't care, unless she got her $11,500. I have never in my life seen a bunch of non caring, crooks! Now this is what takes the cake... The dentist rushed over me so quickly he DID NOT prescribe anything! No antibiotics, no pain killers, nothing. So, after I was released from that horrid finance lady, I asked the lady at the front desk, "Um, I need some meds, if he insists on me paying and arm and a leg for his services, which I can not do. I'll need some pain killer at least." She then informed me that "He's out to lunch, you'll have to wait." Yeah, I had to wait an hour and a half for this joker to finish his lunch. Then after waiting, he wrote me a prescription for very crappy pain killer and an antibiotic I WAS ALLERGIC TO! I WAS ALLERGIC TO, I WAS ALLERGIC TO!!!! I informed this to him TWICE! His response; "Just try it and if you start to have a reaction stop taking it. If you are not going to have the procedures done, I'm not going to help you any further." I would stay away. read more

I went in for dentures and they told me they had an oral surgeon on site in the building. And lead me to believe this untill seconds before they started trying to pull teeth. This place is a scam. They are only there for your money. I went in for a severe tooth pain and all they did was give me a list of 50 different procedures I needed to get done (which is false after visiting another dentist). The only reason I am giving two stars is because the staff was nice, but not $4,500 nice. There is no reason for dental work to cost that much out of pocket, especially on top of my dental insurance. They also tried to secretly charge me for a $100 electric toothbrush because apparently I can't use the one I already own. I ended up taking a copy of my X-rays and going to a privately owned dentist office. This place did nothing to help with my pain, if anything they made it worse saying my treatment plan was going to cost $4,500. I will never set foot in another Aspen Dental again. read more

Service date: Nov 2012 - Feb 2013 These people almost tricked me into paying for the FREE cleaning that I am entitled to from my insurance. They told me I had to pay because I did some cleaning previously (Nov 2012). I told them my coverage entitles me to 2 cleanings/checkup in a calendar year and they refused. What was so annoying was it took me a month to make an appointment and they waited after 1 month to give me this information. Anyway, I was happy I refused because I contacted my insurance company and they thought I was playing a joke on them when I told them I was refused service (a PPO + plan). Since then, I resolved never to go there again beacuse they are a fraud. Oh ...lest I forget.., they sold me services that I did not need (as usual). One very interesting thing I observed - After I paid in full for all my services, I overheard the (sales?) manager/'the person you talk to when you want to pay' say this to the receptionist Receptionist: Did you max her out? Love the people at Aspen dental. Dr. Kline And his staff are great. I had suffered with bad teeth for years. When I went to Dr. Kline he and his staff made me feel very comfortable with the procedure and answered all of my questions patiently. I had 19 teeth extracted all at one sitting and didn't feel a thing. I feel 1000% better and look 10 years younger with the high quality dentures the made for me. I did not like that the dental hygienist repeatedly tried to sell me things I didn't need (Invisalign, teeth whitening). I also didn't like that they don't include the cleaning with the dentist visit like typical dentists offices, so I had to wait an extra 30 mins for the hygienist to have an opening. What really sucks about this place is the billing. They make the bill almost impossible to understand so you can't argue it. They also added treatment to my visit that I did not want, but they did not explain to me that it was being done until the end, then expected me to pay it. My husband also had a bad experience where they did a specialized cleaning even when he specifically stated he wanted the routine cleaning. Then insurance wouldn't pay for the cleaning and we had to pay $200 for a visit that should have been completely covered. My husband called repeatedly for almost 6 weeks to find out why he was charged so much, and each time he would get the run around or would never get called back. 100% do not recommend this place. Went in to Aspen Dental for a routine screening, was asked to pay 2800$ for 6 procedural interventions for periodontists (not detected by my usual dentist back in Utah either 9 months ago, or a month after this appointment). The methods the dental assistants used were designed to get the result they wanted (pressing forcefully up into my gums to falsify pocket depths). I wish I could say that the dentist was not guilty of this as well, but he most certainly was. He wanted treat two teeth with soft spots which he called 'pre cavities'. No. How about trying to salvage teeth that DON'T have cavities yet? I was not allowed to discuss my treatment plan with a dentist at any point during my visit. I was not consulted in any way about what they wanted to do until I was presented with a sheet of paper they wanted me to sign which showed how much I was agreeing to finance through them for these treatments. It was a non-itemized bill showing the total amount minus the portion my insurance was going to pay (which amounted to 5% of the total bill, if that gives you any indication of how necessary my insurance considers these procedures). I asked for an itemized bill, and an explanation of why i never got my teeth cleaned. Their office manager told me that I was so sick that it wouldn't be ethical for them to clean my teeth before my underlying illness was addressed. That was when I left. I came back the next day to collect my records to give to my old dentist, who I decided to visit while I was visiting home later in the month, and was told that I was not entitled to a copy of my records (except my xrays). I had to make a fuss before one of their office managers finally came over and, after much argument, finally gave me what I had asked for. I don't know if this is true of Aspen Dental around the country, but I suspect sadly that it is. This business is unethical bordering on fraudulent. My experience with them as a health care professional was just nauseating, and my heart goes out to every other person in that waiting room that didn't know what was in store for them. Aspen Dental operates on the premise that it is providing care to folks that can't afford dental insurance. They provide in-house financing, which in theory is a decent idea, but has clearly run off the rails and right into crazy town. Specifically, this applies to patients who are using Aspen as their primary dental service. Apparently, fillings and the like are quite cheap there, but that is their trick. Get you in the door, make you happy with a cheap filling and then, bam, periodontists. Do not go to Aspen Dental. They aren't crooks, really, but they are the worst kind of scumbags in the dental industry. They will steal from you if you let them. Please don't give them the chance. read more
