I've had great experiences with the dental care itself at this office--the dentist, dental assistants, and hygienist are all professional, friendly, and thorough. I truly value the quality of care they provide and would like to continue being a patient here. Unfortunately, my recent experience with the front desk staff, specifically the paitent coordinator, was frustrating and disappointing. I had a billing discrepancy between what the office charged and what was outlined in my insurance Explanation of Benefits (EOB). When I asked for clarification, I was met with a dismissive attitude and a lack of professionalism. Instead of taking the time to explain the issue, I was told--rather condescendingly--that I was only charged for a cleaning and still owed the full amount for my crown, as if the concern was whether I could afford it. That was never the issue--the concern was about being overcharged for a previous visit. What made the situation worse was that, before I could even provide my EOB for review, the patient coordinator loudly announced the cost of my crown stating it would be less expensive as previously stated and that it would even out the discrepancy across the open office--in front of other patients. I found this to be a serious lapse in patient privacy and basic courtesy. It's disappointing because the clinical side of this practice is excellent, but the front office experience--especially dealing with insurance and billing questions--has been unwelcoming and unprofessional. I hope this issue can be addressed, as I'd really like to continue receiving care from the wonderful clinical team here. read more

I went there and had a bad experience I had crooked teeth and the final denture was so thick I couldnt taste my food at all. Also it made me have a under bite and gave me TMJ. I was told "oh don't worry you'll get used to them. I cried for a long time. I pd 5,000 and felt as if they didnt have time for my issues. I have wore my partial until its cracked. I've been to an Aspen dental in New York and in Michigan for EMERGENCY DENTAL traveling and they were great. I got in same day or next day, having never been a patient there. I currently have a extremely botched dental job from another chain (the tooth Inc from Texas) which I regret and the dentist never told me how to take care and what I couldn't do until it was already damaged but I as of last night I now have two "Permanent" bridges - so 6 of my front teeth- that have broke, snapped off and fallen out- I don't have many back teeth- I can't eat and I'm super glueing them in place at the moment to be able to eat anything, but that's not an emergency- because I can't come in unless it's later tonight because of my child, because I'm not in pain since the nerves are dead, and mainly because I'm not a current patient you can't get me seen at all until Monday (its a Wednesday) that's 5 days- but you offer emergency dental??? This is what it should say "EMERGENCY DENTAL FOR CURRENT PATIENTS" Maybe if I had said it hurts so bad I'm bleeding and i can come right now (because I am bleeding) would I still have to wait? I loved the ones I went to in NY and Michigan. the one in New York especially was great. What's wrong with the ones here in Kentucky? Why are they all different? No other surrounding locations have any openings for a "new patient with an emergency" You do only have an average of 2.5 stars here and on Google with people talking about multiple Kentucky locations so I should have known better. I went there despite the poor reviews and the fact that the Lexington location had caused my Mother to walk out a few years ago. This was the Georgetown, Kentucky location. I have a very bad tooth and can't get it treated in town. I was told I could at Aspen After 90 minutes, dental XRays that were the most painful I've ever had, and being left to languish buy a doctor who was lass than caring, the tooth was never cared for, but a $19000.00 treatment plan was presented to me as "Bait". I felt if I didn't agree to SOMETHING. They would refuse to see me or treat me. I have Dental Insurance, which made no difference to them. They made NO effort to treat me. I made an appointment because my son had terrible pain from erupting wisdom teeth. The appointment was at 5, but his pain got so bad we went to the office to check for any cancelations. This business says you may get an emergency walk in... this was 10am. there was nothing available so we returned home and went back at 5pm. when we arrive they said they canceled the appointment because they didn't think we would come back. the receptionist that canceled is an idiot and could not explain the cancellation. i raved to the office manager , who could not explain the cancelation. 2 idiots. read more

I've had a great experience with Aspen Dental! They are efficient and thorough...however, a little pricey.

I went in for a root canal issue (wasn't causing pain but needed to be fixed.) I was told I had several cavities (more at the one visit than I've had in my entire life) which I thought was odd since I had 0 pain in my entire mouth but I wanted to trust the professionals. After getting 4 of the cavities filled I was left unable to use those treated teeth for 6 months until I went to an actual professional and had the teeth fixed. Not to mention they attempted to over charge me for things like unnecessary screenings/test, a new tooth brush (that I quickly googled and found for $75 less online,) AND tried to run my credit for a "payment plan" that was actually a credit card, thankfully I realized all these things before it was too late. Again, I had 0 pain when I walked into Aspen Dental for the first time and left with severe pain for over 6 months. Avoid this place like the plague. read more

Superficially professional. That's how I would describe Aspen Dental. The hygenist I had was extremely nice. The doctor that saw me for about 30 seconds came across as extremely competent. Competent enough to realize that I didn't actually need 7 fillings. In fact, she said my teeth looked great. The fact that they made a mistake in my initial exam, noting that I *needed* 7 fillings when in fact that's the number of fillings that *already exist* in my dentition is not the reason I'm rating 1 star. But it sure doesn't help. Aspen required that I pay *before* work was being done. Then, when the work wasn't needed, they have refused to refund me. The excuse is that the claim hasn't processed. But the reality is THE WORK WASN"T DONE, so there is no claim to process. The short, hygiene follow up was 100% covered by my insurance. Calls to them go no where. On the 14th, Kayla lied and said they were sending my refund and would take 7-10 days. Didn't get it. On the 30th she said they're "waiting on the claim." In the meantime, finance charges are accruing on my credit card. A few things seem clear: 1) Aspen is a business. And I get that. But making money is clearly a priority since you have to pay *before* the work is done (in five decades of dental services, I never have had to). 2) Their *business* practices, in hindsight, seem borderline scammy. I feel like I was buying a car and getting the upsell on everything. They know what insurance will pay and will not pay and where they can get some out-of-pocket $$$ from their patients. Or should we just be real and say "customer?" 3) Aspen Dental is too big to be competent. Too many moving parts. They marked my existing fillings as teeth that *needed* fillings. They sent a claim a month late (the insurance company told me this). It doesn't take 7 to 10 business days to refund a credit card. I managed collections and customer service for a major bank's credit cards for nearly a decade. It can generally be done in 7-10 minutes. At most, over night if it's after hours. But I get not wanting to under-bill should a claim not process. But in this case they ALREADY KNEW what my insurance would and would not pay. Don't use Aspen Dental. Avoid them. Find a small dentist office that's been around a while. Ask neighbors and friends for recommendations if you move to a new location. read more

I'm living in Lexington for a medium-term consulting contract and needed someplace good to help with cleanings. I may go home for dental procedures but don't want to just for cleanings! I called and made arrangements that I would provide X Rays from my own dentist at the initial appointment. This was quite a good, detailed discussion. The next morning someone called to confirm seemed to have no clue regarding the initial conversation and insisted that new X Rays we're required! Sorry but I'm not going to let myself be exposed to two sets of X Rays in the same week! You shouldn't want that either. So I can only comment on the appointment planning, communication and flexibility to meet special needs. I rate all of these Poor. I certainly hope there is better here in Lexington ..... if I find one I'll rate it on Yelp also. Stay tuned. read more

This happened to me in 2016; however, I still get angry thinking about it. I went to Aspen Dental in Lexington for a routine cleaning. The dental hygienist immediately started with scare tactics concerning my gums. My gums have always been large and no other dentists have ever been concerned. The dental hygienist and dentist both told essentially told me I would lose my teeth if I didn't IMMEDIATELY get a very expensive treatment plan of root planing and scaling, as well as maintenance visits. I was in graduate school, working as a teaching assistant, and paying for a wedding. I was crying in the financial office thinking I would have to get a student loan just to "save my teeth." Luckily for me, my fiance was in dental school. When I called him crying, he thought something was off. So, I got a second and a third opinion. Both of those dentists immediately thought Aspen Dental was scamming me for the money. Here I am two years later with my teeth still intact - shocking! Just had my routine cleaning last weekend (elsewhere obviously), and the dentist had no concerns whatsoever. Aspen Dental in Lexington also scared my friend who was also in college into the root planing and scaling. It is a LOT of money, and they apparently target a lot of young women into getting it. Please be careful with any treatments you receive there, and get a second opinion if it just doesn't feel right. Headed back the next day for them to remove a cracked tooth. Met with Dr. Gutherie this time and he was friendly, attentive and he tried his darn-est to pull that stubborn tooth out without having to drill. Regretfully, he had to break out the drill and it took awhile. He was as gentle as he could have been considering how stubborn that thing was being. He finally got it out and I was ready to head home. The staff is extremely friendly and both of the dentists have a great bedside manner. I like the fact they're open late on Tuesday's until 8pm and they do work on Saturday a month. read more

Don't go here for dentures. I was treated like a bothersome nuisance because it took a while and more than one try to get my dentures right. But because I only got basic dentures and didn't spend a ton of money apparently my expectations for my smile, health, and self esteem were too high. I'm sorry but if you don't want to sell dentures that are less than $2000 then don't. But don't treat people like they don't deserve the same care, expertise, and respect because they can't afford more. Also, quit advertising "dentures in days, not weeks," because mine took 4 months! And I was told they were "rushing mine." Really?!!! But if you look t the website and Facebook people you see nothing but glowing reviews. Hah! Denise did my zoom bleaching yesterday and was awesome. Her years of experience shows. They didn't care that I only needed two teeth on the top bleached and only 6 on the bottom. Oh no, we gotta make that money no matter what. After discussing it with them 3 times in previous appointments the focus is still on that fee... Only thing is they seem more focused on contracts and fees and assuming people cannot afford them more than they focus on getting you in to get the care you need. the dentist however, really seemed to care. read more

New patient dental exam and cleaning appt day June 5th-2019. Dr. John Ihnen DMD LLC Nicholasville Rd STE 140. I was 15 minutes early and filled out all the paperwork. I went to the exam room sat in the dental chair , had an incompetent woman take over 18 x-rays of my teeth. Her mannerism were rude, unfriendly and the procedures of taking the x-rays were uncomfortable and she was unapologetic. unbeknownst to me they did not do a cleaning (which is the main reason why I came to the dentist today) rather they scheduled a cleaning at a separate time for Friday 2 days later June 7th. On June 7th I promptly arrived at my dentist office. I was told because I did not text C back to confirm the appt on Thursday they canceled my appointment and would not be able to see a hygienist. Again, the Staff receptionist was not friendly her name is Hillary. They did not try to find a way to accommodate me being I was just here 2 days ago, why would I need an appt reminder when I was just here and I was never told I had to text C to confirm when I already had a note card with my appt on it. I called my insurance company and they told me that the Aspen Dental procedure was not standard procedure as all dentist offices see their new patients, doing exam and x-rays and cleaning on the same day. WARNING to anyone coming to Aspen Dental especially Lexington on Nicholasville Rd . Do not use Aspen Dental. They care only about up charges, making multiple appts to charge your insurance more money. They had me spend 60 minutes waiting on a dentist to exam teeth after the xray. My husband and I recently relocated to Lexington and decided to give this place a try as our new dental practice. From the second we got there, nothing was quite right. It took time to sort out insurance that I had already handled on the phone. Then I had to go through x-rays (a ton of them) and during the x-rays, they decided to change staff on me while I had the film still stuck in my mouth (and no one seemed all that concerned that I was needlessly uncomfortable). Once I was in the chair, I had someone come in and go over my medical history, then leave me for a while. Then someone came in a measured my teeth and then left me for a while. Then the dentist came in, looked at my teeth and then said someone would be in to go over my treatment plan. I had been there almost 90 minutes at that point with no teeth cleaning. I was informed the "treatment plan" was going to run me $117 (despite my insurance covering free cleanings). At that point I knew it was some sort of scam. My husband, meanwhile, was being run through the same process. I didn't see a cleaning in our future and I no longer trusted them to touch my teeth so we left. We will never go back and would never recommend this practice to anyone. read more

Horrible experience. Went there because my teeth were hurting. They supposedly did "free xrays" but when i went back i was charged for them 150.00 on my insurance. Then they said my tooth needed to be capped and i had periodontal disease. Yea ok right. So they charged my insurance 850.00 and my care credit 1800.00. They temp capped my tooth and i had to go elsewhere to have it pulled out. It was killing me. I kept calling aspen and they said this was normal for it to hurt. Ive had caps before and nope this is not normal.So i had to dish out 211.00 to have it pulled. Now ive had to call my care credit and explain to them that they charged the whole amount on it and it needs to be taken off as i had the tooth pulled and the perm cap was never put on. What a rip off. Please do not go to these people. The tooth they pulled out was partially black and Aspen should have seen this when they were sawing it down for the temp cap but no they wanted their money. No wonder i was in horrific pain. Very corporate. I immediately got the impression that their business model was to feed off patients' ignorance. I have excellent insurance where cleanings are free, but was told I needed 2 special cleanings $180 out of pocket, and $1800 worth of crowns and fillings (some needing replaced). I did the first cleaning and had to pay $90. I was stopped by the finance lady and told I had to pay $26 more for the toothpaste I was given. I will have to find a new practice after almost three years at this practice. My hygienist was always great, but after my last appointment I scheduled my six month follow-up which was today. I arrived 15 minutes early today to find that my appointment had be cancelled and given to another patient because I had simply not replied to a text message a day earlier. Booking the appointment in the first place is my 'confirmation' that I'm going to be there, and I shouldn't have to 're-confirm' or have an appointment canceled for. Also, I was never told that if I didn't reply to the text, my appointment would be canceled. read more

I do not recommend this company. I moved back to Lexington and needed to find a dentist. My tooth, my back molar started hurting on Easter Sunday. I went to Aspen and they said I needed a root canal. They referred me to an endodontist for a root canal then I went back to Aspen for the crown. From the day they put the crown on my tooth to today, I have constant pain. I've returned to Aspen three times to let them know something is wrong and my tooth continues to hurt with no results and have returned to endodontist three times with no results. I've spent over a thousand dollars out of pocket and my tooth hurts worse now than when I first visited Aspen back in April. I'm disappointed because the dentist verbally recognizes that this tooth has given me the worst time but that's it. No resolution unless I just want to have it pulled and all that money go down the drain. I haven't received any follow up on my care from them. I have to call and continue to say something isn't right. I haven't got any relief. Wish I would have taken more time to research dentists in Lexington to find quality care. read more

This place is amazing and I've been a patient here for the past six months as I had an accident and needed extractions, implants, and crowns. Dr. Young is such a smart, down to earth doctor. My process is almost finished as I suffered from some severe trauma. He was referenced to me by a very close friend who I trust very much and I'm so glad I listened and took his recommendation. The teeth that I have that are fixed right now are beautiful and people still tell me everyday I have a beautiful smile (even with the flipper I have to wear since I'm waiting on my implant to heal AND the flipper looks so natural, people I know say they can't even tell). I can't wait to get my implant and see the final results! He is a true artist. Hands down the best dentist I've ever had in my life. This has been one of the most trying times in my life and this dental office has put me at such ease and has been more than accommodating to my needs. I'd give ten stars if I could! Dr. Young and his assistant are a wonderful team and Matt and Brittany in the front office are so kind and always remember my name and that just goes to show they truly care for their patients. Staff was friendly, but this place will charge you for anything they can. Get this - I went today, had a consultation. I arrived for my 2:45 appointment, got my x-rays, then say in the dentist chair for about 30 minutes waiting for the hygienist. I saw her finally, and they told me I'd need two cleanings, a mouth guard, and they suggested the oral b electric toothbrush. I waited 45 MINUTES for the actual dentist to come in and look at my teeth. At the end, they were going to charge me $771 for two cleanings! And that was after my insurance! The paper did not say it, but the lady said they included the price of the toothbrush, take-home supplies, and that the cleanings are "special cleanings". I went in for the free exam offer. I do not have dental insurance so this seemed like a good option to see what needed to be done. I had a very bad experience in the past so I hadn't been to the dentist in quite some time. The dental exam itself was a very good experience. The dental staff and actual dentist were very friendly and explained everything throughly. The trouble began after the exam. I repeatedly asked before making the appointment if they offered payment plans; they assured me that they had payment plans for everyone to fit every budget. Instead of offering me a payment plan in which I pay them directly, Aspen made me apply for TWO CREDIT CARDS, which I promptly got denied for as I told them I would. It was at this point they began breaking down the treatment plan for me and "prioritizing" what needed to be done first. Nothing added up to the total they first gave me. All of the work that they were going to do, when broke down, was less than $1000. The original total that they ran my credit for was $8400. There's no way to reconcile that number with the breakdown they gave me. At NO POINT did they offer a real payment plan. A credit card is NOT a "payment plan". read more
