Went in for a first time cleaning with them. I religiously have my teeth cleaned and not had a cavity in probably 19 years so nothing wrong with my mouth. Was left in the waiting room for 45 minutes. They took a bazillion xrays. Hygienist said they wanna do a treatment plan. I just need a cleaning lady. They would not do a cleaning on me unless I came back for TWO more visits and paid 400 bucks even though I have dental insurance. Said I had bacteria and periodontal disease. It's a mouth. Don't they all have bacteria? Anyways, they wasted 2 hours of my time and I still need a basic cleaning. Stay away. They are all about selling something you don't need and apparently EVERYONE has periodontal disease I heard them talk about another patient that was questioning that as well when I was there. Edited to add: I went to a different dentist. Said I needed nothing extra. Cleaned my teeth and told me that I don't even need to see the actual dentist but once a year because my oral hygeniene is so good. Absolutely no concerns. Be warned of these practices. Just trying to suck people dry for a basic need. Thankfully, I was not stupid enough to fall for it and now have found a dentist I trust. read more

They told me I had to go outside because the waiting area is for patients only. The office staff is not friendly at all. I read the reviews before I made his appointment. The reviews were bad. I would give zero stars if it allowed me to. Besides the fact my appointment was rescheduled 2 times.. lets start this nightmare! I told them I had a filling fall out and needed it replaced when I made the appointment, told them again when they confirmed the appointment and told them AGAIN today when I arrived! They had me there for 3 hours total and 2 1/2 before I ever spoke to the dentist. Panoramic x rays, 3-d xrays and individual mouth xrays. I was examined by 2 people before I ever laid eyes on the dentist..I thought ok 1 set of x rays because I am a new patient I get but 3 sets and all the other people poking around in my mouth for a filling replacement? Seemed a bit much! DR. Knox finally arrives in the room.. starts making a treatment plan with out even asking me the nature of my visit, which I assumed she knew since I had told 3 people before being seen that day. Nope not one person wrote down the actual nature of my visit.. so I stop her during her $15,000 dental treatment plan to ask when I was getting the filling replaced that was why I came in. She said first, well it's late in the day now, I said it was not 2 1/2 hrs ago when I got here, then she said she would not replace the filling until I had the gum treatment first (at the $4,000 price tag) I said WHAT?!?! That's the whole reason I am here!! I want it filled before it gets worse and starts being painful ... DR. Knox said then it was not too late in the day, but I just had to start the gum treatment first then she would replace the filling. So forcing me to pay the $4,000 ($2,000 for me after my insurance) before doing what I went in for. I was MAD I mean really MAD! I grabbed my things and left. Called my insurance and am filing a complaint on the claim they try to submit for payment for today, I did not want or ask for all those xrays! They also gave me the phone number for the Texas Dental association to file a formal complaint against this dental office with them. I am doing that as well! It's pretty sad when you call your dental insurance company and tell them what happened to you and the insurance agent asks you if you went to Aspen dental! I swear to god they already knew where I went! She told me they have A LOT of complaints on them for doing this same thing to other patients!! DO NOT GO TO THIS DENTAL OFFICE... Terrible choice of dentist. I went initially for a broken tooth and severe pain. I was given a treatment plan and told to call Monday to get in for an extraction. Sure, no problem- let me have a broken tooth throbbing in pain with no medication. I called on Monday and am told they can get me in on Tuesday. I go in and when given the shot in roof of my mouth, I cried and was told by Dr Knox "if you think that hurt, that's nothing". They continued on with the extraction of the tooth and sent me on my way with no antibiotics, no pain meds and no remorse. It made me never want to see a dentist again. I have spent over a week now taking Tylenol and utilizing orajel to try to be comfortable. Now I will have to sign whatever documents to be able to have my info sent to a different dentist to continue my treatment plan. I paid for horrible pain and should have never went! Let's not forget the assistants that fill out the notes before the procedure is even completed because "she has been getting on to them" about getting it done. The notes for my procedure were done before the dentist ever even came into the room. Shameful practice and horrible experience. Should have left a broken tooth, at least it hurt less and didn't cost anything. read more

Staff is friendly, but always rushing. I feel like I did not receive the best of care. Teeth and mouth are still hurting for 2 months.

Where to begin? Sign on the door says to call them if you have an appt and they will come take your temp and you have to wear a mask. Ok. Done. Go inside and two staff at front desk are not wearing masks. A patient comes in and they tell him they require all patients to wear a mask. So hubs ask where their masks are. One puts his on and says I'm wearing it now. The other says, I know I'll put it on in a minute. Dr comes to call me back and she's not wearing a mask. Hubs asks her to wear a mask. She then puts it on. No one appears to listen to him as they ask three times which tooth hurts. He keeps telling them it's broken but not hurting. Then they want $2400 to do a root canal and crown. Yikes! Should have walked out when they weren't wearing masks. Had been there 3 years ago and the dr told him he didn't have one of his crowns last time. He said yes I did. She said nope it's not on the X-rays from then. Wow!! read more

Save yourself grief and choose another dental office. I had no dental issues and only went for a checkup. My previous exam, at a private practice dentist elsewhere, was less than 6 months prior and I was told at that time that everything looked good. I changed dental insurance and had to change dentists. Unfortunately I chose this Aspen location. I go in with no dental complaints and leave with an estimate of over $8,000 worth of "necessary" procedures. So according to Aspen Dental I went from "no issues" to catastrophic issues in about 5 months???? Really??? I had no pain, sensitivity, gum bleeding, nothing!!!! The dentist herself was unfriendly and unprofessional and chose to bad mouth my previous dentists and the work they had done in my mouth. She did not act like she cared one bit for me as a patient. All she seemed to care about was money. I'll never return to this office and will advise my friends to choose a different dental provider. * I called this place to schedule an appointment to have a broken tooth removed....Said it would be $148.00. Went in, PREPAID, got the exam consult, X-rays, then sent to financial desk. I have NO INSURANCE and the sign in the front says X-Rays and Exam Free for Non-insured. I assumed the payment was for the procedure I requested. They give me a line of BS that all 7 of my top teeth needed removal and a BRIDGE made for almost $5000.00!!! I asked about just the extraction for the 1 tooth, it went up to $500.00!! I left. I called later in the day asking for my XRays they had taken for me to take to another Dentist. They said come back tomorrow after 10:30 a.m. to pick them up. * Today (Thursday) I went and got the XRays before my appointment with another Dentist I was referred to in the first place. They hem hawed around, in the meantime I asked why was I charged the $148.00. They claimed the XRays and Exam. * After my dental appointment elsewhere, I called the Financial desk person at Aspen and questioned the charge. She gave me some line of more BS so I said the Sign in front is mis-leading. (I wish I could post a pic of their sign.) They are Con Artist, Shysters, Crooks to no end! I wish I had read these reviews before my appointment. I read other reviews that were good. I chose Aspen Dental because they were on my dental insurance provider list. I couldn't believe the estimated cost. My portion was over $6000. Needless to say I will be shopping around for a more reasonable provider. I was told this visit was no charge thank goodness. Aspen Dental in Lufkin not only charged my insurance $6500 dollars (some,of which the Billings codes did not appear on my bill)of which they paid approximately $1200, they had me pay out of pocket $1900 for extractions, a temporary lower denture and bone grafts. I specifically asked about bone grafts before starting any treatment hoping it would save me out of pocket costs. The office manager said absolutely not, that my insurance was covering that. Well after having extractions and receiving my temporary lower denture I received a call that they could not continue my treatment until the "past due" amount of $1100 was paid. They informed me that my insurance doesn't cover bone grafts and I was responsible for the cost. Of course I contacted my insurance company and was told that had they bothered verifying my coverage before treatment they would have known that. They attempted to conference call the office manager and held for 20 minutes before having to disconnect. I immediately called the office manager and she told me she didn't need to talk to the insurance company that she knew what she was doing. She told me that she would "take care of it" and I wouldn't owe anything else. That she would call me on Friday to let me know what day I could come in this week. Of course she didn't call and when I called this morning she was with a client and I was told she would call me right back. I told the receptionist that I had an appointment at 1pm today with another dentist and if I didn't hear from them before then I would continue my treatment somewhere else. Of course they didn't contact me so I went to my other appointment and will be receiving my permanent lower denture tomorrow at a cost much lower than the $1100.00 that Aspen said I owe them. I liked the fact that they give free X rays but after getting my teeth cleaned there I regret it. My teeth were not cleaned at all compared to other places I've had them cleaned but my biggest regret is after treatment I now have very sensitive teeth. I'm 56 and have never experienced this until after getting teeth cleaned at Aspen. They even ask if my teeth were sensitive and I said no. They ask if I smoked and didn't ask if I drink coffee or tea. Seemed judgemental because I had just overheard head Dentist professing to be a Christian to patient b4 she came to my room. They were not professional at all. Maybe they had a bad day but after these few months of sensitive teeth I strongly warn anyone to stay away. Cheaper price may mean poor quality of work. read more

This dental office is nothing more than a money grab. I hadn't been to the dentist for a few years, so I went to this place. After the exam, they had a laundry list of things I needed done, and required payment up front for everything on the list. I paid. They put things in the Bill like $30 for a tube of toothpaste, an Oral B Genius electric toothbrush for $135 all without discussing it with me first. Then came the fun. I needed 2 crowns. First visit I sat on the chair for over 6 hours as the dentist went from room to room to room, during which time I regained feeling. Dentist came back in and without even checking she just started drilling, to which I nearly jumped out of the chair. Finally got the temp crowns. Came back in 2 weeks for the permanent crowns. She pushed them so hard into place that both broke. Over 5 hours in the seat that time...but wait, it gets better. Came back in 2 weeks again, first appointment of the day at 7am. And again she had no care about causing pain. Didn't use topical numbing, just jabbed the needle into my gums. At 5pm...yes 5pm (over 10 hours in the chair), I was finally leaving with what felt, and looked like Flintstone crowns that didn't even cover the teeth. So now I'm going to a different dentist to correct these horrible crowns. The only bright point was when I called to get my money refunded for the future work they said I needed... they refunded that money, but not for the worthless crowns they installed. When I first went there, I had no tooth pain, now I can't even eat on the right side of my mouth. I would give them a negative rating if it was an option. If I could give no stars I would!!! I had a broken tooth and called in before going to see if they could pull the tooth if there was no infection etc. I was told YES!! I got to the clinic at 4:45 they did all my X-rays and I assumed after the doctor came in and said there was no s/s of an infection he was going to pull the tooth BOY WAS I WRONG!! They worked up a bill of every thing that was wrong with my mouth but the issue and end up coming up with a total of 6500. After telling them several times I just need my ONE TOOTH pulled. The treatment lady told me that I might as well get all 3 teeth pulled instead of that one tooth I came in for.(if anybody has had a broken painful tooth then you know this was aggravating)I end up leaving with the tooth not being pulled and a lot of drawed up plans on what I could get done in order to fix other issues in my mouth. read more

Loved the building and the cleanliness but that was it! The first appointment is free for exam and X-rays but then you talk with office staff to pay ahead for any procedure you need. My son and I had appointments for fillings, we spent 2 hours in the chair for only seeing the dentist 45 minutes for filling and numbing if area. You cannot come in there with a problem and have it fixed the same appointment, the dentist looks tells you what you need and back to office staff you go to pay ahead to make an appointment for that problem. Very frustrating, especially when your mouth is hurting. read more

One of my teeth broke a couple months ago and just a few days ago started excruciatingly hurting. Having no dental insurance i decided to make an appointment at aspen dental since i would be a new patient and they were having free exams for new patients. I made an appt friday for today (tuesday) since my husband would be off from his full time job. I made the appt for 2pm and received an email with the new patiant paperwork and everything. I get to aspen dental at 140 and tell the receptionist that i have an appt at 2 and im a new patient. She tells me to have a seat after taking my paperwork. Fast forward to 1 and 1/2 hours later and im STILL sitting in the waiting room waiting to be called back watching other people who came in WAY after me getting brought back! Finally i went up to the new receptionist since the one i talked to went home for the day and told her to not worry about calling me back, ive been there since 2 and now im leaving. She said that the person who just went back isnt being seen but being counciled and i said i dont care why he went back i scheduled an appt at 2, its now 330 and im still sitting here! She asked me for my name and looked me up and said oh, this is why, your appt wasnt confirmed so we gave your spot to someone else. I was like are you kidding me?! Y didnt the first @#$%& receptionist see that and tell me instead of letting me sit in their office for 1 1/2 hours!!!! if i would have known that i could have made a new appt, stayed home, and my husband could have worked a half day at his part time job!!! Apparently i looked like someone who had all the f***ing time in the world to drive from douglass to Lufkin and sit in an f***ing waiting room all day. I wonder if it would have been any different if i had my 16 month old with me running all over the waiting room and being loud! He was the only reason y my husband stayed home, so he can watch him while i went to this appt! Next time look at the person's profile or whatever its called on ur computer and if something doesn't look right THEN LET THAT PERSON KNOW INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM SIT AROUND WAITING FOR NOTHING FOR 1 AND 1/2 HOURS!!! i've used Aspen in another area and they were wonderful - not so much in Nacogdoches. The other office was in a larger metropolitan area and people did not wait hours to get taken care of. I guess it is true - the South moves a lot slower. they make appointments about 1/2 hour apart and you get to sit and wait for over an hour before they call you for x-rays. after x-rays, you wander around for a while so they can figure out where to put you. once you have a room, you have to wait for the doctor. it seems they have only 1 doctor to work on patients. diagnosis given. then you have to wait another 1/2-3/4 hour before they act. in my case, i broke my dentures and needed a repair and i intended to get new ones since the broken ones were more than 15 years old. then go to the financial dept. to discuss payment plan. (still did not take dentures to repair). after payment arrangements, took dentures and had to wait another hour plus for them to repair - this could have been done at least 2 hours earlier but no. then wait at least another 1/2 hour for repair to set. for the mold, they use repaired denture as mold frame which is an acceptable procedure. Then you get to sit around for another hour so that the mold can harden properly. When they hand the dentures back, they mention that an appointment was made for the wax impression (verify fit & tooth color). If you ask at the front desk, they mention that indeed an appointment has been made and would be ready in another hour. So, you sit and wait only to be told that you NEED to make the appointment. The person who was to make the appointment had left for lunch. Many other interesting facts: the employees love playing with walkie-talkies and will call someone just to see if they are listening. After they have been there for 3 hours (open at 7:30), they are talking about being ready for lunch. Lunch time is from 11:30 - 1:00 and they do not go out in shifts. They all leave at the same time. Dentures were in the lab waiting for someone to finish - when they get back from lunch. Meanwhile, I got to sit and wait - no teeth, no lunch. Wax impression will be ready *hopefully* on the appointment date. I wonder how long I will have to wait before trying them out. Another 3 hours? My appointment was at 9:45 (I arrived at 9:30) and was finally able to leave a little after 2:00. This was my first time with this office. You would have thought that they would be a little more attentive to give a good first impression. Needless to say, I am NOT impressed. If I did not need these dentures, I would not be seeing them again. read more
