Everyone here was extremely kind and made me feel very welcome. They took the time to thoroughly explain each procedure and were willing to work with me based on my budget. Dr Melnik and his staff even stayed overtime to complete my dental work (wisdom tooth extraction, cleaning and fillings) due to an issue with my insurance coverage. They're currently in the process of moving to a nearby location with all new equipment (mid February 2017). However, their current location is very clean with industry-standard equipment. This Aspen can get pretty busy at times, so it might help to schedule your appointment for an earlier time of day if possible. read more

I had a very disappointing experience at Aspen Dental - Binghamton. From start to finish, the office felt disorganized and rushed. Appointments seemed to be double-booked -- I waited far past my scheduled time more than once, and it was obvious they were trying to move patients through as quickly as possible. The quality of work did not meet my expectations. I felt like my concerns weren't taken seriously, and procedures felt hurried rather than careful and thorough. Communication was poor, and I often felt like I was being upsold instead of genuinely cared for. Every time I went to Aspen Dental they have never helped me. I had a broken tooth and the dentist said"we can put a filler in but what's the point you will just keep needing it replaced " knowing I was going to a dentist that could replace it. I just wanted it fixed for a short period of time. He said we could take all of your teeth and give you Dentures. That's all they do there. They are not friendly and DO NOT try to help you. I had a routine filling done by Dr. Melnick which left me in severe pain and damage to my tooth and jaw. I had to go to emergency room and have it rectified by a new provider. Melnick got very nasty with me, accused me of wanting free dental work and discharged me. Then after I filed a BBB complaint, Aspen charged my bank account 3 times for a savings plan subscription, my account was set for no renewal of services but charged me anyway. was quoted a cost for the elite signature dentures with a full mouth extraction. we paid in full. 6 months later when time to get the permament dentures was told NO that's not what we had! thank god I have my original paperwork. the office admitted they made an error. after getting permabent dentures received a $5200 bill!!! have been phromised this will be taken care of and we do not owe anything. however have received to date 3 bills for the $5200 and now being turned over to collecton!!! I went to the Vestal office back in January for tooth pain. They told me I needed a root canal, but their endodontist was not covered under my insurance. They said the crown was completely covered, but not the root canal. Said I could go somewhere else for the root canal and come back for the crown. Not sure why the office is covered but not the endo, but whatever. I went 1.5 hours away because that was the closest endo that would take my insurance. I got the root canal done and have a temporary filling until I can get the crown down. I have been calling this office for 10 days, leaving messages every time. I can't seem to get anyone to answer the phone or return my calls. How this place has business I don't know because I can't seem to get anyone to answer the phone. read more

Only used this office because it had availability to look at me for tooth pain. They look at my teeth and don't give a clear understanding whether anything is actually wrong, so they address a side issue of gums. They charge me $1000 for some treatment plan for the gums while the teeth still hurt. Then when I try to get in contact with them again, they are extremely unresponsive with calls. Called 4 times and left voicemails over the span of three weeks. Called a 5th time like five minutes after the 4th and somehow got through and got an appointment the week after. At that appointment, their office team was chatting aimlessly and on their cell phones, so I don't believe they're too busy to be replying to my voicemails. Then they look at my teeth for less than 5 minutes after making me wait for 30 minutes, and they still say they don't see anything wrong. They refer me to an endodontist which I'd have to pay $500 just to meet with. Then the office worker says this appointment is to determine how to "save the tooth," but no one could even identify what tooth was bad if there was a bad tooth. You'd think the dentist would mention if there was a serious problem instead of constantly saying there's nothing wrong. What a joke of an office and a business. I sent complaints to their service line, and I'm sure it won't be responsive much like their phoneline. I called to make an appointment. when I called, I first asked for them to check my insurance provider to see if I would be covered for a new bottom denture. the lady but me on hold. when she came back to the phone she said" you will be covered 100%" well after 6 different appointments, for getting Ex rays and fittings and the new denture. I left thinking I was good to go. NOPE, a month later I get a bill for $577.00. I called the main office 3 different times. The one and only person I spoke with said she would try and figure it out. after about 10 minutes on the phone, she put me on hold, then after 7 minutes my phone went dead. if I could give zero stars I would! I went to the horseheads ny office yesterday due to a painful tooth needing to be extracted! Once I meet with the dentist I immediately knew it was going to be a rough trip! He had zero bedside manner! He was short answered, had the worst attitude of any dentist I've ever met, and made me feel like I was just part of their revolving door of patients. When he finally decided to pull the tooth after I sat waiting longer then the actual procedure, he aggressively went to put a bite block in my mouth and when he did he jammed the metal into my gums so hard that I now have a sore in that spot! He clearly was irritated and then says "guess we will do it without it". He then starts pulling the tooth and it being a wisdom tooth Ik they can be pretty tough to pull. He was pushing on my jaw so hard I really thought he was going to break my jaw. When I informed him of it he once again got angered. Once he finally had the tooth out he pulled it out, through it with the tool he used to pull it onto the table, and walked out! He didn't say another word to me other then BITE (on the gauze) And that was the last time I had seen him. He didn't check to make sure he didn't chip the bone or make sure it didn't need stitches! NOTHING! He literally threw the tool and the tooth in the table, ripped his gloves off and away he went! I mentioned to his assistant that he has zero bed side manners and she said "I get that a lot unfortunately". She seemed to be a nervous wreck, and stressed to the max As well but overall was doing her best. Couldn't imagine why she would be stressed working under someone like him! They also gave me info on a partial that is needed and the amount of out of pocket money is INSANE! Especially since I have insurance! I had my daughter with me and she was so shocked and upset for me at how unprofessional, rude, and rough this dentist was. That will be the LAST time I ever go there. I've heard my fair share of horror stories but like with all places you need to know what to believe and when. Well I now see why so many people recommend NOT going there if you need any actual dental work done! They are more for if you want dentures, partials or implants! On my first appointment earlier this week to fix a broken crown, scheduled to 7:00am. I was forced to wait for at least 20 minutes but it was closer to 30-45 minutes if my memory is correct. I received a treatment plan that totaled $504 after insurance. But to proceed to fixing the broken crown I was required to have a cleaning at their office. I agreed to stay that day for my cleaning during the cleaning I was given a rinse it took about 5 minutes. I arrived today about 10 minutes late due to a snow squall. I apologized and was told they understood. Then receptionist said I had to update my treatment plan. This took several minutes and I was charged an additional $40 for the rinse I was given last time but not informed it would be an additional charge. After paying for this I sat down for a few more minutes and was eventually called back to my room. Once there I was told the doctor refused to see me because I was not 20 minutes late and he had an meeting he could not miss. As I waited in line to reschedule a pizza delivery person came in and I asked if the pizza party was the important meeting and the reception just said she could not comment on why my appointment was cancelled. I explained what was going on and I was told they could not over rule the doctor. I asked if I could speak to anyone at corporate and was told it wouldn't matter any complaint would just go back to her and there was nothing anyone could do for me besides reschedule my appointment. I asked to cancel my treatment plan and issue a refund. In the end I was required to pay over $100 for the fastest cleaning in my dental history and $40 for a small cup of rinse. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. My complaints were met with less than concern and based on the another women that was also complaining about mysterious new charges on her account my guess is they get more complaints than customers. read more

Gave me the bill which I paid upfront and was told that I had to send it to my insurance and I would be reimbursed, I ended up paying 100 dollars out of pocket. Aspen knows that the insurance is going to pay them less money so they stick it to the customer. I should have been informed that they were not sure if I would receive 100 percent reimbursement. And then when I called to discuss it they were rude and couldn't care less. They just want the money and to sign you up for a discount membership. Guess what? I got screwed!!! read more

WISH I COULD GIVE THIS ZERO STARS! HORRIFYING. Here is my story: I arrived at the appointment for cosmetic bonding, which was discussed at the consultation visit. I give the receptionist my name. She clicks and clacks on the keyboard, and I am informed that I must pay thirty dollars without so much as a "hello." I told her politely that I would not be paying today because the bill was shown to me as zero dollars at the consultation meeting, and I wanted to look into the bill further. She had no problem with this and asked me to take a seat. A few minutes later, I am called back to the exam room. I hang up my things and have a seat. The dental assistant who calls for me isn't the warmest, but I make small talk as she matches the color to my tooth for the bonding. We decide on a color, and she leaves to get the dentist. The dentist enters the room and greets me by asking to see my tooth because he "forgot what happened." He gives a QUICK glance at my smile and gets busy with something on the counter behind me. I remind him I just need some bonding on the front tooth. He leans the chair back, asks me to open my mouth, and sticks something q-tip-like in my upper lip while saying, "just some numbing cream." Then, he returns to the counter behind me. As I sat there for a moment, I thought it was odd he would be using numbing cream because the last dentist hadn't done that. Before I have a moment to ask, he returns to my mouth with a needle and simultaneously says, "just a small pinch," as he injects me with a local anesthetic. I was UNAWARE I was receiving an injection and was given it without proper warning. He and the assistant leave the room within seconds, and I immediately tear up. I was overwhelmed with emotions and entirely baffled by what had just happened! A few minutes later, they both returned to the exam room. While wiping my tears, I calmly say, "I'm feeling a little overwhelmed and confused. Why you used numbing on me? My last dentist did not numb me, and I have NEVER had this injection before." "You don't want numbing? Well, I use numbing on all my patients. Do you not want me to continue?" he replied defensively. I told him to proceed, considering he had already injected me, but I requested to know what he was doing before he did it. I took a breath, sat back, and opened my mouth wide. The dentist responded non-verbally by shoving a cotton roll in-between my back molars and motioning for the assistant to place the saliva ejector inside my mouth. He moved the light to get a good look at my front tooth finally and began talking to the assistant as if I was not present. "The patient should expect to get numbing. We numb everyone." He said to her. He then began shouting at me."Tell me, exactly, what it is that you want me to do?" At this point, it is obvious to me that he thought he was performing a standard filling on my HEALTHY front tooth. Despite the clarity in my request, not once, but twice for cosmetic bonding. I removed the items from my mouth to calmly re-explain what I needed. I said, "I need the worn-down bonding replaced on top of the tooth to fill a small visible space left after my braces were removed. I just need bonding on top; you are not drilling into my tooth." He again speaks directly to the assistant."See, when we do the Invisalign, we don't leave a gap. There should be no gap to be filled. We have to drill into the tooth. We cannot do it this way." He asked me again what he would like me to do, and I reiterated I would like some bonding placed on top of the tooth. Then, still shouting, he stood up and said, "No, we cannot do it that way. Have a nice day!" and STORMED out of the exam room. I got up, grabbed my things, and beelined out the door to my car. By now, I was sobbing as I was completely dumbfounded by my experience over the last 10 minutes. Quite frankly, I was equally worried about whatever he had injected into my now completely numb upper lip. I sat in the car and called my mother-yes, my mother-in a panic. (Who else do you call in a moment like this?!) She reassured me the medication would wear off in a few hours and that I shouldn't have any trouble other than while drinking liquids. As I hit the end call button, I receive a text notification. Oh yeah, remember that thirty dollars? It was a message from ASPEN dental reminding me I have an unpaid balance due-just in case I forgot. If you are a person-especially someone with anxiety-you can understand how debilitating this experience was for me. Absolutely horrible service. Had a crown done two weeks ago and it's killing me. Tried calling during business hours and nobody answered. Left a message that I was in pain from a crown they put in, and no call back. Tried the emergency number, and they were going to get someone but ended up hanging up. Still cannot reach one person! I've been going for routine dental follow up for years at Aspen because it's under my insurance. However, I will pay the price and go to another dentist! I'm done. read more

I have every intention on suing this particular office, even with receipts showing I am paid in full they sent me to collections ruining my credit I found this out after applying for a car loan. They never gave me my permanent dentures, fucked after pulling my teeth by missing one. They claim I have my dentures but I have found hundreds of people have the exact same problem with all Aspen Dentals around the country. Probably the most unprofessional Dental Practice I have ever visited. Went to my appointment on June 12th for a consultation for a cleaning and removal of my wisdom tooth. After I was done meeting with the Dental Hygienist and the dentist, I was told that I must get my wisdom tooth removed asap. I was sat in the waiting room and waited for 25-30 minutes but no one to be found to check me out and let me know when to come back for a cleaning and removal of my wisdom tooth. Eventually I spoke to the front desk and I was told that they were extremely busy at the moment and they will call me later same that day to let me know what the next steps are about being set up for a cleaning and removal of the wisdom tooth. I got home waited for about 3-4 hours and did not receive a call. Called them to ask them what to do next and I was told the person that was supposed to call me is busy at the moment and will call me back the next day. Next day goes by but no response. I called them again but no answer. Call them the 3rd day and I was told the person was on a lunch break. I was fed up and called their HQ and they tried to get in touch with this location but they could not get a hold of anyone in this office and sent them an email to reach out to me. Still nothing till this day. Mind you I had to take a day off from work to come in to be seen. Waste of my time and no respect for others time. read more

BY FAR the worst dental experience of my life. The zero star rating is certainly needed for this place. The ONLY thing you need to know about Aspen Dental is that it's a business that employs a Dentist. NOT A DENTAL PRACTICE!!!!! The store is run by a manager who tells the dentist what he needs to do. A normal dental practice is entirely orchestrated and run by a dentist, with secretaries to handle scheduling and billing. Aspen Dental is more like a business that tells the dentist how they can make more money. My husband and I were at our appointments for two hours and still did not receive a cleaning...of that two hours, 1:40 minutes was waiting. As we had our infant along, we certainly did not appreciate the lack of service. The dental assistant was quite pleasant, however there is only one dental hygienist and one dentist. The dentist is entirely unconcerned and only looking for profit. He couldn't even pretend to care...again, a business, not a dental practice. I am at Aspen Dental right now. I'm not very pleased so far. I just got my teeth xrays done and I'm waiting for the next step. The staff hasn't been friendly or welcoming, which isn't helping me at all since dental work isn't my favorite thing to begin with. In addition, Sean, who did my xrays was a little pushy and not really nice about doing his work. Xrays aren't comfortable to begin with! I have to bite down on this plastic thing that pokes my mouth! I don't appreciate you scowling at me just because I'm uncomfortable or you have a hard time setting up the xray! Also, let's talk about sanitation. You're handling something that goes into my mouth. Please don't be handling the chair and other things. I am a student at BU and needed to get my wisdom teeth removed. Aspen Dental is close to my apartment and accepted my insurance so I decided to give them a try. I cannot stress enough how horrific the experience has been from beginning to end. First, the wait time is extremely long and the staff isn't particularly friendly and unprofessional. They did not call me to remind me I could not eat before my surgery or call my doctors to double check if I was okay to go under with the medications I was taking. I had to call the day before and remind them to do both and they gave me attitude about it although I could've faced terrible complications from their reckless indiscretion. Second, they suggested thousands of dollars worth of work that I did not need and kept giving me unclear and mixed answers on billing. Finally, my wisdom teeth have become terribly infected after having them removed and I had to go to a doctor and another dentist to correct the problems they created. Going to aspen dental was one of the poorest choices I have made and I am regretting it every moment I am in agony because of their work. I am just hoping that this experience has not caused permanent damage or does not result in another oral surgery. This office is just shady. While some of the staff are nice, they always look for a way to bill you hundreds of dollars for even the most routine stuff. I went in for a simple cleaning and was then told I need a filling in conjunction with the cleaning. I ended up getting charged over $900 out of pocket AFTER my insurance was applied for cleaning and filling! To add insult to injury, after the filling I started having toothache where the filling was done, which I never had prior to the so-called filling that I didn't ask for. The pain has been so severe that I had to return to the office several times to complain - all they did was prescribe pain relievers. Then they tell me I need a root canal, which is $177 out of pocket, after my insurance is applied (it is $1296 prior to insurance). I show up to have the root canal done and suddenly they hit me with an out of pocket bill of $789, which they require I pay before the procedure. Shocked at the bait and switch, they begin to explain that it is necessary to have a crown in conjunction with the root canal, hence the charge. I end up waking out without doing the procedure. I have family members who have had root canals done and they weren't forced into having a crown done as part of the procedure. This pattern of excessive hundred of dollars of surprise billing also happened with people I know who visited the clinic. I've had it with the office. I really think they need to be investigated by the Attorney General's Office. read more

In short, if you are a new patient and make an appointment for your teeth to be cleaned, you will not have it done that day. Details: Today, I had an appointment for teeth cleaning. It never happened. First, I get a bunch of x-rays. I ask if the panoramic will be covered by my insurance and the lady didn't know. I explain, I only want the imaging covered that my insurance pays for. She speaks to someone and comes back and says it'll be free for me as a new patient. Then the dental hygienist comes to count/check my teeth/gums. He says he'll be back since the dentist needs to first check my teeth and x-rays. I wait a little bit, the dentist comes in and says everything is fine. This is where things start getting odd - the business manager starts asking me when I want to have my teeth cleaned. I was like "this appointment is for my teeth cleaning." We have a back and I even explain that I was told the hygienist would return to clean my teeth. Well, apparently this is not how this place operates - their policy is that you are evaluated first and then make an appointment for teeth cleaning in the future. And as far as the hygienist "returning to clean my teeth" yes, but not that day. This was aggravating as I specifically spoke to someone over the phone to make an appointment for teeth cleaning. None of this was ever mentioned to me by the person over the phone or when I was checking in. I question this practice's integrity. I have gone to Aspen Dental for 2 cleanings so far. Both times, I thought their customer service was very nice and professional. My dental hygienist. Steve is a very nice guy, very friendly and talkative. The second time I went to Aspen Dental, I was 20 minutes late for my cleaning and my dental hygienist Steve still took me in. Though he was being rushed by his co workers, he did a good job cleaning my teeth and I am happy to have him as my dental hygienist. The one bad thing I would say is that at my first appointment some lady tried to sell me services I didn't need but besides that I have no complaints. read more

A friend of mine had a cavity filled here. It resulted in fixing the work elsewhere - with a root canal! Apparently too much tooth was drilled out. I had xrays done here, for free, because my insurance had not kicked in and a filling fell out. They said that I had at least 10 cavities that needed to be filled, they could not re-fill the missing filling...it MUST be crowned or taken out and an implant put in. They quoted me for THOUSANDS of dollars worth of work. Then I went to a dentist with a great reputation (Smile Designers in Endicott) and they said I had ZERO cavities and the missing filling could be fixed with...wait for it...A FILLING! Aspen is known for being money hungry and firing dentists for not upselling enough work as well as butchering you if you do get the work done. I went to a dentist every 3 months for in depth cleanings before going to Aspen! Aspen tried putting me on a $2,000 treatment plan. I went to another dentist for a 2nd opinion without telling them about my experience and they didn't even come close! Why pay $2,000 for treatment if my teeth are gonna "fall out"!?!? I showed 30 min before my appointment only to find out that the dentist was running late by an hour because she had to get lunch. Mind you, this was an appointment scheduled a month in advance. One would think people schedule their lunch breaks in relation to their appointments. To make this worse after the one hour wait, the actual appointment ended up being only a consultation and they requested I schedule another appointment for the actual cleaning. Staff was horrible and rude. The hygienist was forceful about treatment options, she refused to do a basic cleaning and told me my only option was a 450$ treatment- before they had even done any xrays or measurements! when i expressed financial concerns the hygienist made a rude comment about my personal choices. the woman imputing info into the computer made jokes about my gum deterioration. i waited 20 minutes after the hygienist left for the doctor to come in, he spent all of 20 seconds looking at my teeth before asking if i had any questions. i immediately left and will never go back. Super clean facility very efficient but I have to get low ratings the doctor was only concerned about pulling my teeth and ignoring my complaints about pain would talk over you and tell you what he wants to do not what I asked him to do or look at they're really concerned about $$$money$$$.. and after he extracted the tooth he was out of the room in less than 10 seconds and I was out of the chair and on my way out the door within 30 seconds did not offer to clean or anyting else ... if you're looking to be seen fast and have your teeth ripped out quick this is the place read more

I moved to Binghamton, NY area this past summer. I found a new Dental practice that accepted my dental insurance and made an appointment wanting to get my teeth cleaned and wanting to make sure I had no cavities. I arrived early, filled out the paper work and waited-I wasn't seen until 20 minutes later than my appointment. After having more x-rays than I can remember I was finally seated in a typical dental chair reclining. I waited another 5+ minutes before an employee appeared and began examining my gums. Calling out numbers that evaluated the health of my gums, she completed her exam and let me know the dentist was going to come in. He did come in and he looked in my mouth for no more than 30 seconds. I was then sent to scheduling. Apparently I had some gum issues which needed fixing-I was presented a cost for the fixing the health of my gums to the tune of $900, after the insurance would kick in $500. I looked at the clerk and declined the gum treatment and asked if I could schedule a teeth cleaning. She said it was against the law!! Once I was diagnosed with gum disease, they were not allowed by law to clean my teeth until my gum issue was resolved. I AM NOT GOING BACK AND LEFT VERY ANGRY!! read more

I'm only giving it 1 star because that's the lowest you can give. My son had his wisdom teeth removed in early February 2015 and we are still waiting to be reimbursed in August 2015. Of course, they got their money up front but now refuse to talk to our insurance to help us get our claim issue resolved. We are out over $3000 because they now refuse to work with our insurance. Don't go there! You'll never get reimbursed and they don't care about you at all! read more

I was really nervous after reading these reviews but I still went anyway. I had a great experience I didn't wait too long to be seen the xrays were fine and the person that did them took extra care to make sure it didn't hurt. I also got to see my own xrays after she was done to see my teeth coming in. The dentist came in looked at me teeth let me know I don't have any cavities the only problem is my wisdom teeth. He prescribed some medication for the pain and in case of infection. The front office gave me a few referrals to an oral surgeon and that was it. I'm very happy with the experience I had at aspen and I would go back as well as recommend them to people. My friend actually recommend them to me she had 2 teeth pulled and they worked really well with her about financing plus she said it didn't even hurt that much. Definitely happy I went. read more
