Do not use this shop. We spent around $1800 to have work done and when we picked up the car, the check engine light was still illuminated. Several days later, the car just wouldn't start. I was then told that I had to find a way to get the car back to the shop to be looked at. Once it was looked at again, I was told that there was a gasket issue with the engine at that the engine was in hydro lock. The result would be just under $5000 to repair this issue. I was also told that once they get in there, the possibility of other issues being discovered was likely. To make a long story short, I took my car to the dealership and they checked the vehicle and siai the engine was perfectly fine. The car needed a new starter and new batteries for a total of $2230. Aspen Total Automotive was going to charge me close to $5000 to fix something that wasn't even broken. Seems like complete fraud to me. If not fraud then complete incompetence. I highly suggest never using this shop. read more

Aspen Total Automotive saved my ass not once, but twice! The first time I smashed my oil pan speeding over a dip, and the second time I got a blowout on the highway after running over a two by four. In both cases Aspen Total was able to slot me into their schedule and had the job finished within 36 hours, including the sourcing of parts which they didn't have on hand. If you're looking for arrogant, belligerent and downright unpleasant interaction/service, Scott the manager at ATA is your man! I dropped off my Mercedes to be serviced and when it was returned to me, the digital speedometer had been disengaged by whomever had worked on my vehicle. When I came back several days later to pick up some parts and settle my bill, I asked them to re engage the digital speedometer, I immediately started receiving "aggressive" push back from Scott the manager. He falsely accused me of trying to pull something on them when I was simply there to pay my bill and ask them to rectify THEIR mistake. Scott then asked me to "step outside" in pugilistic tone of voice so he could look at the speedometer himself. After playing around with it for a short time, it was abundantly clear that he didn't possess the technical know-how to solve the basic problem that his shop had caused. Now I need to take my car to a Mercedes dealer to fix it. On reflection, steer clear of these hacks, they treat their customers VERY poorly! read more

He also showed me that my alignment is out of whack bc my tires are cupping in a weird way. I understand that Bob just bought the shop in the last few months so sharing a current experience is important. I was on a coast to coast road trip when my fuel pump gave out. Aspen Total Automotive were booked up for weeks but found a way to shoe horn me in and get my car sorted. Pricing was incredibly reasonable too! 75% of the hourly rate for similar work back in Chicago. Didn't expect that in Aspen ... We were on a trip to Aspen and our car began having trouble right before we were supposed to drive back to Denver. We drove to Aspen Total Automotive, and were discouraged to see how busy they were-- fearing we'd be waiting a long time when we needed to get back home. The guys at the shop were so nice. They worked us in right away and fixed our car on the spot. We were so touched by their concern and service. Plus they only charged us $20. What a good lesson in just good people-hood! I was on a road trip with daughter and ended up needing some rear brake work done. Was only in the Aspen area for 3 days and could not continue on with trip without getting them fixed. I called and left two messages on Monday after no one answered the phone during business hours. Asked to have someone call me back. It is 4 days later and still never heard from them. Was unbelievably over charged for simple repair. Needed a patch for a tire that had caught a screw and caused a flat. They didn't even need to remove the wheel from the car, as I had done that for them. The repair took a day and half and cost $80!!! They didn't even offer to put the wheel back on the car. From what I researched a tire patch with a balance costs $25-30. Was trying to patronage a local business but really payed for it! read more

I took my car here b/c my AC was completely out and i was facing a drive back to Texas with two small kids and a dog in 95+ degree heat. I will give them some props for getting me into the shop for an assessment of the issues as they were very busy. Upon assessing the problem it was determined that i needed a new condenser and they could not get the part. They could not top off the Freon as they are not allowed to do so when there is a leak. I do not blame them and do not expect them to break the law but I asked them if there is anything i could do and they offered no options as i paid my bill. I called my mechanic in Texas and he was very surprised they didn't offer a very simple solution that i could do myself. My mechanic guided me through the process of adding Freon which i did in 15 minutes. I had AC for four days up until i was able to get the condenser replaced. I do not expect anyone to break any laws but our situation was pretty serious considering the heat and lack of other viable options. There was an easy solution that i could easily do myself and i had to rely on my mechanic to offer it up. If this shop had their customers best interest in mind they could have taken five minutes to explain the same solution my mechanic at home offered. You be the judge. read more

I have taken many cars in for repairs and I have always felt that they did only what was needed and they would try and save me money if they could. No unnecessary repairs or feeling squeezed for money. They explain things fully and are super friendly and work to get me in when it's an emergency. I've never felt taken advantage of, which I've felt at other repair shops. I know nothing about cars and they seem to know everything. When my car broke down in Aspen over a long weekend and I pulled in on a Friday afternoon, not only were there no "you can't expect us to fit you in!" comments, but the shop figured out was wrong quickly, told me what was needed (unfortunately a tow back down to Denver), and Tony even drove me to where I could pick up a shuttle back to town. The worst experience I have ever had with a mechanic. Used him a couple times, they put oil in my brakebooster which caused every rubber part in my brake system fail. $2000 to fix it. And of course they denied it. Also went in for a valve adjustment that I was quoted $400 for and the bill came to $1000. When I asked he said "oh this was loose and that needed to be tightened... This is the mechanic everyone is scared of getting... He also took out my smog pump and put in a used pulley that lasted 3 months and charged me for a new smog pump. When I brought the truck back he said it wasn't his fault that the used part he put in my car failed and that now he needed to put in a new smog pump that was going to cost $800... I went online and found the part for $125 and it took me 30 minutes to install... The worst lying mechanic I have ever met.. Do not take your car to him read more

My wife and I were staying in Aspen. We went on a road trip to Paonia when we experienced trouble with our Lexus SUV. The folks at AAA in Colorado recommended we take it to Aspen Total Automotive to have it repaired. We called John first thing the next morning and he said bring the vehicle in to him even though he was extremely busy. I had the vehicle in their shop by 9am. Within 20 minutes they had it up in the air, inspected it, and made a diagnosis. John checked for availability of parts, and told me that he thought it would be ready by afternoon. I was surprised but happy to hear this. He gave me a loaner vehicle for the day and said he would call when my car was ready. Sure enough they called me around 4:30pm to let me know it was ready. I picked it up and was expecting a whopper bill for the work, but was again pleasantly surprised to receive a very fairly priced bill.
