The Parents at drop off are scary ( driving too fast , don't stop for pedestrians and aren't considerate of the neighbors or other parents). School isn't neighborhood friendly. Pick up is just as bad- with line extending the entire block. School isn't well organized. Dangerous school location off of Firestone- does not have a proper drop off or pick up area. No parking available for parents for events such as graduation, plays, etc. read more

My son is coming here and enrolling my daughter in the fall. I like this school because it has a socially conscious based curriculum. I would love it to lean more in the STEAM but they are trying. I also like if there is ever an issue I can have meeting with faculty or admin ASAP. No school is perfect but its up to the parent to be actively participate and hold them accountable if there is ever an issue. Overall the staff is communicative . read more

She has the best and sweetest kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Hansbury (thank you for all that you do, My daughter has learned so much in your class). My daughter and I love Aspire Firestone! She has been attending for three years now. The principal, Ms. Kislinger, is amazing! She is passionate about working with the students, and she is always readily available to engage with other stakeholders. Their afterschool program is solid! The afterschool educators work hard to provide students with fun and engaging activities. AFA works with the community and is able to bring a lot of different organizations and experiences to their schools. There are many opportunities for families to come and participate in events with their children. I also love and appreciate all the antiracist work they do here. The staff at AFA all work together to ensure that students are gaining the necessary skills to become critical thinkers. read more

Good school went there from k-5 but not good food they should've brought back dominos on Fridays

I went to this school from 1st-5th grade and it was the best thing ever. Every day I drive by the school and just wish I could go back. All the teachers a incredible, the staff is just so awesome, and just overall everyone there is amazing! One day I hope to be a teacher here and be as awesome as all these teachers that work here. I had to take my 4 year old out of this school. It was one teacher for 30 TK and K. students. With that said they skipped the basic foundation for my child to learn how read and fell behind. First semester, teacher told me he was very smart and all was well. Second semester all of a sudden everything went wrong. I went to go observe and my child would get ignored when he would say he didn't understand. Now just to make things clear. They did not bother teaching my child his abc's and sounds. First piece of homework was writing 5 words 3 times each. a sentence 3 times each, read a short story and write two sentences. This was every night. How is a 4 year old suppose to do that with out you first teaching him the basics. The teacher told me the reason is because even though they offered TK, they did not have a program for Tk and would just put them in kinder. One time my 4 year old walked out of class and the principle personally called me to tell me if my 4 year old walked out of school there is nothing he can do about it. He would have to let him walk out. I switched him to private school. There the teacher told me that TK learn one letter per week. How to write it upper case, lower case and the sound. I saw such a huge improvement in my child in the 3.5 months there than the semester and a half at Aspire. It's now been a year since he transferred. He listens to the teacher, does all his homework and understands it and can now read. Best thing I ever did was take him out of Aspire. read more

Absolutely love Firestone/Gateway Academy. The teachers are attentive and caring, you can tell they really enjoy teaching and being around the kids. Communication among school staff and parents is great, I get emails almost on a daily basis regarding parent news, fundraising and the children's accomplishments. My son loves his art classes and the after school program, mainly because of the science club. His after school teacher is awesome btw. Overall, this is a great school and I would recommend it to any one! read more

My child went to this school for 3 years.. I loved it back then! Unfortunately I cannot say the same anymore... Once they changed principals, everything changed! The office does not communicate things on time anymore, they email you about your kids activities or performance, 1 night before! & They email you at 10pm! Like REALLY am I suppose to go shopping for whatever he needs RIGHT NOW? sometimes even notify you after activity took place. Example that afternoon! I missed out on my child's performance 2xs because of there non communication skills. I cannot say anything about Eddie in front office ,Mrs. Shafferman, Armida or this other new lady.. can't think of her name... But they are awesome!!! Overall, they don't care ABOUT communicating anything important to you as a PARENT.. oh, but they will call you QUICK IF UR CHILD IS ABSENT! THEY TELL U THEY WANT EXCELLENT ATTENDANCE BECAUSE SCHOOL AUDITS/ DOCUMENTATION.. oh but u can drop off ur kid and just check them out withing 1 hr. They just don't want to get poor scoring with the district I guess... Even though it's a charter school..ohhh hand get prepared to pay for school pictures, books, anything they sell is CASH ONLY NO CHECKS.. YUP! AND VERY THAT'S HOW THEY LOST MY CHILD'S YEARBOOK $.. I SEND IT IN ENVELOPE. my kids said I left it in the office, unfortunately forgot get a name of the person. $26.. hey it's tough now in days making your $!! So Yes I am complaining. Ohh let's not get into the PE teacher! Intimidates the poor kids that are TRYING hard playing basketball! PE teacher ONLY cares about winning! Basically lowers the kid self esteem... It's for fun lady! Not paying for NBA! way to go on that end! I NEVER make these poor ratings or NEVER this long! But I said to myself once I check out my kids! i transfered both my kids to firestone academy. and i have got to say that although i have to drive a bit more than before. this was the best decision i have made my kids have improved. the staff is helpful and when you have a concern is taken care off. there is a problem with bulling in the school. and they are trying to fix it. that i don't like but the teachers and the principal there are very good people. read more
