Her demeanor came across very cold and unapproachable, with little expression or warmth, which can be tough for younger kids who need that kind of encouragement and connection--especially in grades like TK or 3rd. I believe every teacher has their own style, but in my opinion, her approach may be better suited for older students rather than younger elementary kids. Aside from that experience, I still genuinely appreciate the school and the many wonderful teachers who go above and beyond for their students.

In one year that my daughter attended she did not learn to read or write. Unfortunately, we are not able to leave because the other schools had met their enrollment capacity. Now, my daughter is below grade level but is working hard at the new school with the support of her new teachers to catch up. The only thing we miss about this school is the spirituality. I tried countless times to address the concerns, I spent the year in countless meetings trying to come to an understanding for the teacher, Elena Haas's capacity to teach Kinder, age-inappropriate curriculum and anxiety my daughter had developed. My concerns were not addressed. Monsignor Lorenzo who is in charge of the school was not able to come to an agreement with the teacher and Principal to provide a simple parent meeting to discuss academic concerns. At other schools, Principals invite parents on a monthly basis to coffee with the principal to maintain communication and address concerns. But not at this school. This school is clean and does a good job spiritually but academically they are terrible. If you want to give your child a solid academic foundation, you should take them somewhere else. This school also is more interested in your money than in your child's academic career. Expect to donate and give money to the school every week. The school will not sponsor any event, although they charge higher tuition, higher service hours and higher annual tuition than other schools.

The report was **ultimately determined to be unfounded**. While we understand that educators are mandated reporters and that child safety must always come first, the way this situation was handled caused serious harm that could have been avoided with better communication and care. From our perspective, concerns were escalated without a reasonable effort to clarify facts with us or to address the situation through a direct, timely parent meeting. Once CPS was involved, the school's communication felt minimal and unclear, and we were left to navigate an intense process largely on our own. The impact didn't end when the report was closed--our family dealt with ongoing anxiety, disruption to our child's sense of security, and significant practical consequences. The economic impact was also real: legal fees, missed work, time spent on meetings and phone calls, and other related costs that families shouldn't have to absorb when a report is found unfounded. The emotional toll on our child and on us was even worse. I'm sharing this because families deserve transparency, professionalism, and empathy--especially when serious allegations are in play. I hope leadership reviews their internal procedures, staff training, and parent-communication policies so other families don't experience the same trauma from an **unfounded** report. **Bottom line:** We cannot recommend this school based on our experience.

Every 2nd Saturday of the month 40+ small businesses gather in the parking lot of St. Mark's and they have an outdoor marketplace from 11am-4pm. Every parent I've met with students at St. Mark's always gush over their amazing experiences with the staff and fellow families attending the school. They've created an extended family vibe across their entire school and church families. He was not threatening other children nor was he being a threat to himself she just found it "disrespectful" she said that he shut down and put his head down. I would like to think that perhaps she would have given him time to cool off or think about things. After all he is 5 years old and she could have talked to him had him discuss what exactly was wrong. Once he got a chance to express himself or cool off perhaps he would have not ignored her.. Instead it upset her enough to grab my sons arm and squeeze it. Then proceeded to take him to office. Initially, I did not believe him because I thought he just didn't like her. However, when talking to her after school in conference she did admit that she grabbed his arm. It really made me think about her educational level, low level of tolerance or compassion and caring level for small children. My son was new to school, new to rules, and this was his experience at this school. I was once very excited to send him to St. Marks. However completely and utterly distraught to have had my son experience this. I took my son out of the school and now going to a different private school that is nurturing and caring. He still after 6 weeks of being out still talks about his bad experience of the mean teacher who "grabbed his arm". I never gave permission for anyone to touch my son in any way shape or form. I write this yelp review hoping that parents will ask more questions. The school has no SCHOOL WIDE discipline plan and according to the teacher discipline varies from child to child.
