She was also not yet independently using the restroom among various other concerns. In our search, we visited various schools, some that we were highly impressed with. We were hesitant to use a home-based school, but decided to visit anyway. Upon meeting Mrs. Valerie, we were immediately put at-ease. She listened to our concerns and never made us feel as though our daughter was behind; we could tell right away that she understood kids and that she truly cared and was knowledgeable about their development. She was open and honest in her communication and was just a very warm and welcoming person in general. During her year there, our daughter learned so much! I don't mean an academic focus (which is still there) but in other ways; she's now more social, independent, and her communication skills have improved. In fact, during her IEP with the district, we were told she no longer qualified for services and they asked us what school she had attended. They were surprised with how much progress she had made in one year. I can confidently say that the majority of her progress is due to Mrs. Valerie. Being a Christian school was a bonus for us! What moved this school over the edge was the in-school opt-in enrichment opportunities: music class, karate, dance/gym. AND the hours are perfect for working families like us. My son started here at age 2, not potty trained. Potty training was barely on our radar but his teacher, Ms. Demmy, worked with him and one day randomly told me that he's ready and to only bring underwear the following week. I was shook! But he was officially potty trained at 2.5 years old! If it were just on us, he definitely wouldn't have been until after age 3. We are so thankful. Later on to my surprise, they sent home Trimester Report Cards evaluating their necessary milestones for their designated age. I was blown away and it helped us to know what areas we needed to work on at home for him. As an educator, this was so impactful, because I didn't expect report cards until elementary school! This has been so valuable to track his progress overtime now that he's 4-years-old. The teachers and director here are phenomenal. Super attentive, open, kind. Creative Day lives up to their name. They're SO creative! From the arts and crafts they do weekly to the fun activities they do. Some of the most memorable are how elaborate the Trunk or Treat & Christmas Programs are, family picnics, and the first ever Preschool Prom! And how can I forget PARENTS' NIGHT OUT!!! Once a month, they host a parents' night out for $35 to keep children until 11pm. As someone who doesn't have family nearby, my husband & I try to take advantage every month, so we don't have to actively seek a babysitter. This has been such a blessing that most schools don't offer! Before Creative Day, my child attended 2 previous preschools in Bellflower, and we were unsatisfied. My daughter attends M-F full time and even on the weekends she wants to be there. They do offer after school care till 5:45pm so it's convenient for working parents. It was hard finding one that did and also one that was willing to accept non-potty trained kids (you do pay a little more for it). She was potty trained in less than 4 weeks! My two-year old daughter is attending twice a week Monday and Wednesday. She loves it here that she doesn't want to leave when I pick her up. I pay extra for the potty training, but I don't mind because this is one of the few schools that have potty training. Before my daughter attended this school, she had trouble listening to me and she was shy with other adults or children. But after a week or two of attending, I saw the change in her. She is listening to me now than ever and she talks herself away. I was so happy and proud of her. In addition, she is finally drinking from a cup, social to other adults and children, and she is doing other independent activities. She is learning to write and she loves the arts and crafts too. The teachers are amazing (Ms. Debbie and Ms. Donna). The child gets the attention they needed. The academic curriculum is good. The children learn their alphabet, numbers 1-100, and writing letters of the alphabet. The teacher gives them story time and the children gets to bring their artworks and projects home.
