I used to only do cardio and never enjoyed going to the gym, especially without guidance, but this has been the perfect alternative. With consistent classes, I've noticed a huge improvement in my strength, built muscle, and feel much more toned overall. I've taken classes with several different instructors, and they're all really great, but I have to give a special shoutout to Helene. She gives clear, helpful instruction and thoughtful adjustments, and she really knows how to challenge you and push you to improve. Her classes are never boring. She mixes things up with different moves and keeps it fresh every time. On top of that, she makes class genuinely fun and always gets us laughing, which is a nice distraction from the burn! I'm moving out of the area soon and am so sad I won't be able to keep coming here. I am hoping the studios in my new area are even half as good. Then, I have had the pleasure of working with Jaime teacher for more than a year, and I can confidently say that it changed my daily routine(posture) for the better. Jaime teacher's classes are sometimes challenging, but she takes the time to adjust each exercise to my level of ability, making sure that I get the most out of each session. She's also very attentive and makes sure that I am using the correct form. It helped out a lot with the condition I am suffering from. (backache, shoulder pain, the usual that comes with having bad posture). Currently, I am currently taking private and group classes at Crescendo Pilates. The workout atmosphere is positive and encouraging. I highly recommend Crescendo Pilates to anyone looking for skilled and supportive Pilates instructors.

She also has group classes, but she informed me that usually you would have to be invited. It is located in a plaza across from Ace Hardware and there are plenty of parking. The instructor was quick to reply and very kind in answering any questions. I haven't personally been trained by her, but my friend highly recommended here and I trust her judgment. Top tier in my book. The neighborhood is super cute, parking is easy, and the facility is clean. So what's not to like? I'm just not a fan of the Montrose studio over their other locations. The room gets so hot and we're not even in the dead of summer yet. I'm not sure if A/C is limited or what's going on with the ventilation. Also, the layout of the space is narrow but long. Machines are spread out with enough space in between each other, but they're basically stacked vertically (one behind another for a few rows). It does seem to be the most space-conscious arrangement for what they are working with, but it's hard to follow if you're all the way in the back and the instructor is demo'ing a new move or if the instructor is newer or not superbly clear throughout class. If this studio location is close to you, do NOT skip on Motivate! Bring grip socks (if you don't want to buy them there) and be on time. If you're early, check out the boutiques and mom-in-pops along Honolulu Avenue. Choose a machine in or near the front unless you're a regular.

Working with Zonnie has built up my core and strength overall. I'm more toned and have lost weight. But what I really need to recommend is working with Zonnie herself. She adapts each lesson to how my mind and my body are feeling that day. She has helped me focus or be Zen when I come in frazzled or will accommodate on days when I'm just plain tired. Zonnie's Pilates knowledge is expert, and she is warm, funny and fun to work with. She's the best!

It is astonishing at how much improvement I have had and how quick it was…read more I had some old and newer injuries that affected balance, movement, walking, knee pain, lower back, hip, etc. It wasn't just that Zonnie knew the exercises that were correct, she knew exactly how to do them, what exact position, and what muscles to activate. She is keenly present from moment to moment observing, correcting, and controlling, and is a very competent, pleasant, and calming presence. Then there is a different way of breathing, standing, balancing, and operating one's body in day-to-day life, the training along with the exercises to activate the appropriate muscles. The improvement in my balance is huge, I was frequently tripping or bumping into things - no more. I love to stand up paddleboard, now my balance has improved so that I can paddle on rougher ocean water. I like hiking again - it had become tiring due to injuries. There are side benefits associated with the core exercises and breathing technique that has improved certain common difficulties associated with males of a certain age. Better sleep etc. My knee, lower back and hip pain seem to be in the past as well. It's a lot more fun to do the day-to-day stuff.

I went to many, MANY places, and they were either too basic or so fast and shouting through a mic that people were going to get hurt. That is NOT the experience you'll get at Pilates Eagle Rock. Jen is a true master, she's had the studio for over 20 years and really knows her stuff. I think I know what I'm doing, then she gives that tiny tweak and I realize I know nothing!! Penny and Sofia are also favorites of mine and SUPER GOOD too. They're former dancers, as am I, so really know how dancers move - and sometimes over extend - to keep me in check. There is no parking lot, but they have small classes and it's super easy to park, so don't let that deter you.
