We let it go because I tend to give people chances. They (with his son) worked on assembly all day which I have no issues with because I was thinking they are trying to do right by us. After they finished around 9-10pm, I asked if all tools and hardwares were in the box as we have not opened it since some contractors like to open it themselves. I asked Bryan if he used all the hardwares (screws and anchors) and with confidence he said "Yes". It was late and I felt bad keeping them any longer. I paid for the service and they went on their way. I got a better look at the pergola the next morning and noticed that Bryan only used 8/16 of the bolts that the pergola came with. Each post has 4 anchors and there are 4 posts in total. He only anchored two bolts per post. I was very disappointed because this was not disclosed after I asked him before he left. I called him and after getting a hold of him he told me "It was getting late and I didn't want to disturb the neighbors". Again, he did not say this before he left and after I specifically asked if all hardwares were used. After that, I should have just taken my losses and move on but we agreed on an appt for him to come back the week after. Moving on to yesterday, he scheduled to come in 8-830am. Once again, he's late. He came at past 9am. At this point, I just want to get it over with. I let him work and do his thing and I get busy inside the house. Next thing I know, HE IS GONE. No words, just left. Took his tools and away he go without anything being said. I called him and of course he did not answer. I looked if he at least finished bolting down the pergola. Oh no, when I lifted the cover to see the bolts were not screwed all the way in and was sticking out. I called again and no answer. I texted to let him know how disappointed I was. Still he did not take the time to communicate and explain himself. Instead, he sent me a text saying he had to take his son to an appt. Whaaat? Wait a minute, I was pretty sure I did not decide on the time he was going to come and so now I guess paying customers have to adjust to the time that was already convenient for him? And that makes it okay to come and go as he pleases and still not finish the job. This man up to this day did not bother trying to call me to make things right. I asked for partial refund to hire somebody else to finish the anchoring and he declined. Worst of all, in an attempt to request money on Venmo, I accidentally paid him. When I asked him to return the money, he did not respond and has decided to keep it knowing that it was an incorrect payment since he had already been paid in full previously. Such a dishonest and untrustworthy person. Not a person anyone would want to do business with!

I've worked with a lot of movers who were unsatisfactory & I'm jaded. Suffice it to say I was pretty defensive with John & was nitpicking with contract details. He was patient with me & still kept me as a customer; I would have probably let me go though. He did his best to reassure me that everything would go as planned. Even going so far as to coming out to my house to sign the contract. The day of the move wasn't perfect, but no move is. He is exceptional at communicating. I never felt worried he bailed on me--I've had movers stand me up before the day of the move. There were a few hiccups but John compensated me financially & offered to take additional items to my storage unit for no extra charge (I was downsizing from a 3 bedroom townhome with garage to a 2 bedroom apartment). What I enjoyed the most about John was his attention to details & honesty. He provided a ton of input on how to arrange my furniture as I struggled to vision how it would all fit. He & his team were careful with moving my things, and he was completely honest about anything that may have gotten scratched, damaged etc., (there weren't many). In the past I found out there were damages too late & I knew the movers saw them but never said anything to me during the move; John didn't do this. I move constantly for work & I'm a little bummed he isn't based in the Sacramento area. I highly recommend him & his team.
