My daughter had an issue with it and asked for guidance on how to get added study material and the teacher was rude and disrespectful. Grammar was horrible and the principal did absolutely nothing and just let her teachers run all over her. When asked if other parents are proactive in their children's school the principal actually said no! And the reasoning was absurd!! She actually said because the teachers do a good enough job reviewing in class!! What education facility gets mad at a mom for asking for more study material at home?? It is a very small school which was exciting at first but the atmosphere is extremely one sided and they are watered down Christian's. They take Christianity as a joke. It is not a professional environment at all! Walked in to speak to the principal and none of them were dressed in professional attire. The vice principal came out in jeans and a sweatshirt and the teacher was in a skin tight dress. Demeanor was extremely poor and on the defense, and so incredibly rude! Please if looking for schools and you find this one because it is on the cheaper side, there is absolutely a reason why it is cheaper. We made the mistake of bargain shopping but it was a total waste of money. They are far behind on education materials and you are never allowed to question a thing. This was not a Christian school it was more like the reason why people turn their backs on God, thank God I have been a faithful servant of Christ my whole life to see what they were actually doing. I was looking for something else on-line and came across Redemption Lutheran Church, my growing-up…read moreyears parish. We lived on Ripley and Large Streets, one long block away from the church, and which was the center of our lives back then. My parents (Ruth & Bill Merz) started attending in 1941 (in the annex before the current sanctuary was built in 1951), and I (Ruth D. Merz) started attending in 1945. From Sunday School classes in 1947 to leaving for a Lutheran college (Wittenberg University) in 1963, the foundation of our faith and religious lives were taught and secured by the Pastor (The Rev. Albert Shumaker), our parents and family, and all the elders and members of the Parish. My two younger sisters Barbara (in PA) and Linda (in AL) were also influenced the same way I was. Our lives outside of school (Rhawnhurst/Wilson/N.E.) revolved primarily around the church and we were there for weekly Sunday services (sitting in "our" pew of course), weekly Sunday School, two full years of Confirmation Class, Girl Scouts (Troop 330), Jr. Choir, Luther League, Nursery helper, sports teams, special events and trips, parish dinners, etc. Our Moms served on the Altar Guild and our Dads on the Church Council and both were heavily involved over the years. I remember walking in the silent snow to Christmas eve services in the dark and always getting a new Easter outfit each year, even if we had to wear a coat over it to keep warm. The only negative was that back in those days, girls were not allowed to serve as Acolytes, a coveted position we would die for, and which only the boys were allowed to do. Looking at the photos today of the buildings on-line showed the still same absolutely beautiful and simple sanctuary where many were baptized, confirmed, married, and brought to the Lord, and so little has changed at all. While I am now 77 years old and have lived in Hawaii for the past 43 years, Redemption will always hold a special spot in my heart. Carrying on with those early teachings, I have attend St. Peter's Episcopal Church here in Honolulu since 1980 immersing myself in all the activities of that church. I grew up in Haddon Heights,…read morewent to preschool at the Methodist church on garden ave, elementary at 7th Ave, and then junior and senior high school at the Haddon Heights High School (HHHS) all six years from seventh grade thru twelfth. I suppose its not something you should review on yelp since I'm sure there's tons of school reviews elsewhere. But in general, and I can honestly say this, the schools did not prepare me for the future that I, personally, knew I was heading for. Because I test pretty well and have a real knack for retaining information, they tried to enter me into honors which I immediately dropped out of due to the amount of work expected from me. I was a fairly lazy student, you see. Also, most of my junior and senior years were wasted by the teachers telling me that I HAD to go to college and that I HAD to do projects relating to the colleges I was applying to. I applied to none in total. It basically ruined those last two years and I let my grades plummet in every class, especially english. I recognize that college is important for those planning on going right from high school. I also recognize that my teachers did not seem to give even the slightest care that I wasn't that sort of student those last two years. I ended up needing to be brided by my mother to graduate rather than drop out and test for my GED. The high point of my time in the haddon heights school district as a student was the guidance counselors. They aren't even called that anymore because it isn't P.C. enough or something. But my entire time, from kindergarten to senior year I managed to have an adult to talk to about anything that might possible be bothering me. That's something that helped in every way. Honestly, I can thank my high school guidance counselor for a lot but mainly the fact that he just sat and listened. Most parents need to pay for that sort of therapy.
