My cousin recently had her wedding ceremony in this church, and the architecture was stunning. The space itself is vast and ornate. The stained glass windows were gorgeous. We all snapped some great photos. Comments: There is no air conditioning. Doors are left open, which raised the decibel level substantially. Full blown day care was out of the question since we're already dropping dime for our Au Pair. A number of inside parks are on the pricier side, and further away. But the Parent Infant Center, also known as PIC, is close to us and very affordable. If you buy a 5 pack, it's $5 per visit. There are toys, lots of other kids, and they even provide snack time. They usually do some group songs and offer other activities. If you are up for helping, which is a super easy gig, you show up at 9am and help set up. Breaking down is even easier and typically happens while you would be there anyway. In exchange, they don't ask you to pay for that visit and give you three more free visits. Not too shabby. The crew is very nice and this is a great option for kids to interact without footing the bill for full blown daycare.

(over 4,000 members) The Pastor is genuinely concerned with the spiritual growth of his members. There are too many ministries to name but the Youth ministry, Women's Ministry, College & Career Ministries are a few. Also, there is a Cell Group ministry. This is basically small group Bible studies during the week; this is in place to make sure that no one gets lost in the large crowd. Definitely a great place to go if you are concerned about your spiritual development and want to hear teaching from the Bible.

I visited this church twice; one of my friends invited me, and then I once attended it more…read morerecently on my own. I first want to start by what I really like about this church. Both times the people here seemed above average in their friendliness, but, unlike many churches, the friendliness went deeper than the surface. My experience with churches and church coffee hours is that most of them have a lot of people who greet with a smile and statement like: "Glad to have you here today." but it can be tougher to engage in real discussion. I love it when people ask me what I really think or feel about the service, or asking what my religious background is, or ask why I came to visit the church. And by ask, I mean ask in such a way that they are genuinely open to an honest answer, because I sometimes get the impression from people's body language that the only acceptable answer is "Oh it was nice." At this place, I found a number of people that were really engaging with me. Their dialogue was sincere and intellectually stimulating. I suspect that this may have something to do with the presence of several students who are studying in theological seminary, but I found that the people here were interested in who I am and what I had to say, and had a lot to say themselves. I really appreciated that! My other comment is about what I did not like about this church. I did not like the sermon, at all, either time. In fact, both times the sermon was sufficiently troubling to me that I felt it would be better for me to not take communion, because I had a compelling feeling that my beliefs were very different from those presented here. Normally, I do not feel this way and I am comfortable taking communion in ELCA Lutheran churches. I even regularly attended an ELCA church for a while when I was living in Delaware. It was some time ago that I visited this church, so I don't remember the exact details of what it was in the sermon that I found troubling the first time, but I do remember noting that the sermon seemed loaded with subjective assertions and broad generalizations about our society, and cause-and-effect in our society, many of which I either saw as untruthful, or so vague as to be meaningless. One thing I have struggled with over my life is depression, and, to me, depression has been characterized by overly broad thinking, involving highly subjective statements. I also have been a member of numerous groups and committees which have struggled with the issue of internal conflict, and failed to reach consensus on key issues. Helping to make my own thinking more specific, speaking from experience, and being careful to make my statements as objective as possible, has helped me to establish more healthy patterns of thinking which has both helped me to overcome depression, and to have healthier relationships with people in my life. I also think that avoiding subjective statements in comumnication with others has helped me to reduce conflict in groups in which I participate. It was troubling to me to see a pastor using language in a sermon in such a way that I associated with unhealthy patterns of thinking and communicating. The second time, it was harder to pin down exactly what I did not like about the sermon, but it seemed to still be presenting a lot of subjective statements and subjective analysis of scripture as fact, rather than as one possible interpretation. I believe that there are many possible interpretations for the Bible and I do not like it when people say: "This is what this means." -- rather, I like it when people ask open-ended questions about scripture, and suggest different ways of interpreting it. If offering a suggestion of how to prevent this sort of problem from occuring in the future, I have no idea if the original pastor will ever read this, but I would suggest that any pastor (1) speak in specifics (2) clearly separate out what is objective truth and what is personal feelings, personal beliefs, or personal experience, such as by using I statements and telling stories for the personal experiences rather than feeding them into vague generalizations (3) avoiding broad generalizations that are less than 100% truthful. I know it probably seems strange, it's not exactly a theological difference, but to me, these details of communication ARE essential to the deepest aspects of my belief. God is all about truth, and I'd like to see religion pursuing truth; if a sermon is muddling up subjectivity and objectivity, it's very hard to get at the notion of truth, and thus, I feel like I'm being fed ideas that could be harmful and distance me from God. So that's why I wasn't comfy taking communion here after the muddled-sounding sermon.
