They sent me a notification 20 hours prior to an appointment that I never knew about and told me that if I cancel I need to come bring them 50$ or they will add it to my next session. I feel if they knew my number to let me know this they, could have initially confirmed the appointment with me or at least sent the confirmation more then 24 hours before so that I would have had the time to cancel. Critical: I don't even know where to start. I called to enroll my son, checking prices asking questions just like any other parent does. The person answering the phone seemed otherwise engaged and just not interested. Really didn't even seem to hear me. I was quoted a price & told the price would be going up due to gas prices at the first of Nov. Great! No big deal. I checked w my schedule and my sons grandmother who was paying for it as a Christmas gift & decided to move forward immediately. Thought I was actively fast. Only to be told they were booked up the rest of the month of October so we only had November available. I was confused, but not really even sure why we were informed of the price change if the lower price was not available. The difference was only $10, but I just didn't feel the middleman, the woman in the office, was communicating how I felt as a customer, a potential first time customer, correctly. I didn't feel as if she was engaging or even hearing what I was trying to explain to her so I cut the conversation short and requested a call back from the owner. The girl said OK, we hung up and approximately 10 minutes later I got a call back from her and she stated that her boss did not want to deal with me I'm not she would not be calling me back. Then, I get a text message from her boss and apparently the owner of this school. See text attached. Whoa! Being a small business owner myself I I am completely flabbergasted and shocked at how this owner handled this entire situation or lack there of handling. Small businesses are struggling these days and it's unfortunate however I feel the need to warn everyone that if this business handles theirNewcomers like this right from a phone call, imagine them handling your child trying to learn how to drive. Highly recommend Astar! They set up my Daughter drivers training on back to back days and I was able to set her drivers test that following Friday! On her first day Jim was the driving instructor and he was very friendly but at the same time he was patient with my daughter. She felt comfortable even though she was nervous before he got there. Jim was with her for two of the three day. On the third day Ed was the instructor and he also was friendly. He gave great advice and tips to tune her up for the test for the following day. My friend moved into town from China and needed to get a CA DL. Called Jodi to schedule a 2 hour lesson so my friend could get familiarized with American driving. Jodi was very nice over the phone, told me what options my friend has. Then on the day of lessons, Ana actually was the one taught her. My friend said Ana was very nice and professional. Very patient and gave her lots of useful information. Then on the testing day, Jodi went with my friend and she PASSED! 99 points! DMV was backed up and Jodi patiently waited with my friend, during the wait time, Jodi gave her some very useful information about the town and things to do..etc. Overall a great experience with two great ladies! Can I give a NEGATIVE star? It is so unprofessional to show up to an appointment that you are being paid to render a service with a dog!! A barking chihuahua at that. Did you ask if anyone was allergic or afraid of dogs? NO! So I immediately cancel never to call again or remotely recommend. How unprofessional and inconsiderate can a person be. LOCALS BEWARE! I made 2 appointments for my son with A-Star Driving School a few weeks ago, with the agreement of $125 per class. He had his first lesson last week, which I paid over the phone. His next lesson is/was tomorrow. I just got a call from the owner stating that his lesson has went up and is now $130. I kindly reminded her that we had already confirmed a price, and in good business she should honor the price agreed upon. Her reply? She asked if we wanted to go to another driving school. WOW. She then went on about what is stated on her website, gas and some other lame excuses for her tacky and unprofessional business. And then she made the mistake of dismissing me. We got into a heated discussion and I diplomatically gave her a teachable moment. She hung up on me. I called and left a message that she was in breach of contract and that I would make her poor business behaviors known everywhere possible. So, I'm starting here. While typing this out, she has been texting my phone, trying to place blame on myself instead of how she conducted business. While it's only $5, the fact that she was being dishonest and rude beyond belief, I don't do business that way. I have a little biz myself, and if I give someone a price, THAT is the price they pay. I won't call them the day before and raise the amount because my jewelry supplier raised the price of adhesives (my highest priced supply) in between our agreement and the day you get your item. My son really enjoyed this school for the lessons he received! The best part is when he would drive with me and he would tell me all the laws and things he learned. Its not the greatest when I'm driving and he's correcting my driving. lol I feel very confident, as a mother, that when my son gets his license and is out on his own driving he will be safe with all the tools he's learning, shoot I'm learning them to from him. I sent my son to driver's ed class because I thought he would get more than an online class and it was the only one around. Unfortunately he hated it but maybe it was just sitting in a class on his summer break. His main complaint was that the class smells like bird poop so that's too bad. We as parents' dreed the moment when you're kid comes up to you and says "I wanna start driving, can I take Driver's Ed/Training"? A part of you want's to say "Ahhhhh HELLLLZZZZ NO!!!" but then the other part of you thinks..."hmmmmm....run my errands and he/she can drive to school". Ok maybe this might not be too bad. Before I begin telling you about this AWESOME driving school. Let me give you some important information... Your child can begin driver's Ed (reading part) at age 15-1/2. Once the course is complete he/she can go to DMV and take a written test to get a permit. This will allow the child to train behind the wheel with an adult. Your child will then need to sign up for Driver's Training. This is basically a company that will teach your child how to drive behind the wheel. This is needed if he/she is not 18 years old, otherwise they do not need to take Driver's Training and can go straight to DMV to take their behind the wheel test for their driver's license. Since my lil man refused to wait until he was 18, I knew I had to find a Driver's Training school and I found Astar. I'm so happy I did. The course was 6 months long (a standard for all schools). The 6 months course, is basically 3 (2 hours behind the wheel) course. It's 6 months, because you can't take the 2nd course until 2 months after the first one. The cost at the time was $300 (subject to change). I know you're probably saying...."dang that is a lot"!! Let's just say it was all worth it, because my lil man, PASSED!! Yup!! Holla at me!! *high five* He pass!!! Only did 2 errors. His teacher was Jody and I highly recommend her (I think she is the owner) my son specifically requested her. The cool thing about this company is they picked up my son at school and dropped him off at a designated place which I requested. This saved me time, since I was working. If you have a child who needs Driver's Ed/Training...look no further!! This is the place for you. Very punctual, a friendly staff, and the last course is set up a couple of days before the DMV test, regardless of how busy they are. They will find time to make it work. FYI...once your kid has a driver's license, he/she cannot have a minor passenger in the car for 1 year. This is the first and only driving school I have used and I'll tell you I decided to not come back after my first lesson. The car I drove in was nice, but the lady who showed up to help me was dressed unprofessionally, with a wife beater tank top on and ripped jeans, showing off her many tattoos and piercings (I don't have a problem with tattoos or piercings, I was just describing what she looked like so you know who to avoid). I know this type of job isn't meant to be a 9 to 5 office job, but have some respect for your clients and wear something presentable. I was incredibly nervous for my first lesson, and she definitely didn't help with calming my nerves. While I was driving, she was texting a bit and would grab the steering wheel and would get upset with me. Mind you, this is my first time driving, so I was going pretty slow, so really there was no need to act like I was going to crash the car. At one point we stopped at the Astar office so she could go to the bathroom or something? I paid for a full hour of driving, so why were we taking a detour? That driving lesson just left me upset and too nervous to drive again for a bit. If you have a teen who's not at all experienced in driving, or they're nervous about driving, avoid this place. read more

Astar driving school is way better than the first one I had. Jodi my instructor is very sweet and patient. She made me feel calm on my first lesson with her. She treats her students one of her own. Passing the behind the wheel test is the goal of doing lessons but I think the overall experience and the way she made me feel comfortable and confident while I'm on the road matters the most. So my son went through Astars driving school a couple months ago and then did the three behind the wheel lessons with Anna. He absolutely loved the classes and seemed to learn a great deal. I noticed that after his first two classes he'd become more attentive when i or his mom were driving the car and he'd definitely gotten better when we let him drive, fast forward after he completed the Drivers Ed portion and hes already become a better driver then his Uncle, Who I'm still not sure how he has a license, Anyways the Three behind the wheel lessons with Anna were in his own words "Fantastic". She was great as a teacher and seriously helped make my son a confident driver. Fast Forward again and he now has taken the DMV drive test after going out one last time with Astar they let him use one of the Mustangs they use and now he has his license. The Drive administrator- (Whatever the person who rides with them during the test is called.) -Said that he only missed one thing when he accidentally went over the limit line of a stop sign. 99% Is alright in my book though. Now hes so excited to drive that i don't think ill be able to say no when he asks for the keys. Ill probably just do that thing where i say "Go ask Your Mother." or my favorite "If your Mother says Yes." Moving on one last thing to say before I go. Our experience with Astar was mixed. My son only had two lessons with them because he was older and not required to do 6 hours, but we felt that he would benefit from professional instruction all the same. The first session was cut a little short. I thought maybe they would make up the time on the next one, but the second session was even shorter because the instructor went to the wrong part of town looking for our house, even with clear directions. Also, she had a dog in the backseat, which wasn't a big deal, I suppose. My son passed his driving test, but just barely, even though the instructor said he was ready. My daughter is ready for her lessons and we are definitely going elsewhere. read more

I wasn't happy with Astar Driving School. The female instructor arrived to pick up my daughter with a Chihuahua in the back seat; very unprofessional, and very nerve wracking for my daughter's first driving lesson! I'm extremely surprised that AStar allows this. The instructor also thought it very strange that I asked for a receipt for my payment. My daughter did learn a lot from this lesson; however, the 'backseat Chihuahua" is the reason that AStar gets a one-star. read more
