Great indoor pool with a nice slide, lap lanes, hot tub, and small lazy river. The hot tub gets full on a busy weekend and the slide isn't always staffed. Usually during peak hours on Saturday (12-2) it's open. That being said, it's a great pool and I'm especially impressed with the lifeguard staff. They are attentive, kind, and professional. Better than most indoor pools I've been to. Gabby the lifeguard is especially wonderful - took time to encourage my daughter during her first swim test for a wristband. They have three pools. One lap swimming pool, one three foot free swim pool, and a toddlers splash area. There isn't an intermediate swim area. Old people are often going up the wrong way on the lazy river, which functions via weak small pumps. If the pump is covered, or the flow is stopped by anything along the path, the river stops working. This place would probably be pretty cool for a younger child. read more

Great side quest for the trip to Astoria. Being that Astoria has pretty limited kid activities, and almost zero beaches being in an estuary, my kid wants to swim. He isn't strong enough to swim in the Columbia, much less the areas around Astoria that have literally claimed hundreds of boats over the last couple centuries. So having a swim center is perfect to check off that swim itch if you are staying at a hotel without a pool. It's even nice if your hotel does have a pool, as I would doubt that hotel has a 2 story water slide! Only negative was that they only had enough lifeguards to watch the pools, we had to wait till 12 for another guard to come on shift for them to start up the water slide. Thankfully everyone working there was very nice and friendly, making sure that we were able to go down the slide before leaving. Locker rooms were clean, plenty of day use lockers available for storage. Prices were extremely fair for the allotted hours open swim is available. Checking their website couldn't hurt to ensure the pools are available and or open. read more

Captains log - Christmas Family Adventures, chapter 1; I spotted an aquatic center while perusing the map of Astoria. Conducted a website check and found that (upon arriving at the location) it accurately provided drop in rates & hours of operation. Fella at the front desk was friendly, we arrived around 10, a small crew of 5. One 20 dollar bill later, we were all in respectful dressing rooms, readying for a morning swim. Spacious, clean, plenty of free lockers and hot showers. The hot tub was great, lazy river was small but fun, and there was a slide for the kids. Idk what the other ppl who complained about, were complaining about because this place was so worth it. We stayed almost 2 hours, enjoyed the heck out of ourselves too, before shipping off for another destination. I'll likely be back here again. Side note - I witnessed a mom with her young daughter, 4 or 5 I'd wager, noticeably upset and respectfully asking the lifeguards for a manager. Apparently someone who identified as a female, was in the women's locker room while they were getting dressed. I overheard the manager and the mom speaking, he basically said it is their policy to allow those who identify as female, to utilize the female locker room. Just passing this information on as this may be a touchy subject for some. read more

Thought I had found a place where my husband can get his laps in and I can workout in the gym but I was wrong. They only have very specific hours, you almost need to check daily. My husband has tried to swim here multiple times and been successful a handful, he is constantly having to share a lane with a grumpy old man who doesn't want to and makes sly remarks, or a women doing water aerobics, or a swim test that isn't designated in the swim test area (because there's already a lane designed for that), or the multiple days it's closed all day or early for swim meets. During the week the pool is closed from 12-4 due to last of staff. Yet I see staff sitting and chatting with each other, in the computers, or on their cell phones. There a "coordinator" when he isn't wearing his black Tshirt with grey hair who sometimes lifeguards but after 12 goes and works out, he has never once smiles at anyone at the gym, nor really any staff says hello or goodbye to members, so a community pool and gym it feels cold and empty. FYI if the pool is closed for a swim meet, the gym side closes too!! The last straw for me was this past Friday 2/3 when I can into to the gym around my normal time 11:15 and scanned my card and said hi to the person at the front desk, he did not tell me the facility was closing early. I went to the gym side, stared my workout, a short red head girl at 5 til noon told me the gym was closing, when I asked why she said for a swim meet, I asked why the gym side needed to be closed, she couldn't answer. I spoke to the manager and he didn't really have much more to say. There normal business hours are Monday-Friday 6-7, Saturday 11-3, Sunday closed. Subject to lots of changes!So I canceled my family membership. I don't have children but if I did I don't know why you would take them to this aquatic center that in opened Saturdays 11-3 and closed Sundays. It sounds like there is a huge waitlist for swim lessons. If you are looking for a good gym with a sauna, no pool, there's one right down the road by Rogue brewery for $40/month instead of $75/month for the community center that is never opened. read more

I've been to a lot of public pools and this one is really, really nice. They are have great hours so there are many options to swim or play. The lifeguards are on their toes so it's comforting to know they've got my back. They also have nice recreational equipment so I'm going to start taking my mother so she can walk on the treadmill while I swim. Astoria is truly blessed to have this facility. I've been coming to this pool for over 20 years, I've only ever worn jean shorts and a swim top. My 3year old granddaughter was in town from Texas and we decided to go swimming and they kicked me out of the pool for wearing jean shorts and completely ruined a memory for my granddaughter. I asked where this was stated and they searched for a peice of paper that says no exposed buckles rivits or snaps. Nowhere on their website nor posted anywhere in the pool does it say that jean shorts are not allowed, aside from the fact that ive been wearing them for over 20 years in the pool and noone has never been commented on it. read more

Wanted to get a workout in after a long day of work and found this place on yelp. Called ahead and they said they're open to the public and offer day passes for $7.50 Parking lot was not too crowded at 6pm on a Tues night. Fitness center has 3 treadmills, 2 open rack bars (for squats, deadlifts, bench press, etc), plenty of dumbbells, pull ups bars, leg up machine, and mats for stretching and planks. They also have 2 rowing machines. Room temperature just right. Towels provided. Had a good workout with the only caveat being that they close at 7pm. read more

The aquatic center is wonderful for older people with physical disabilities. The early morning (until noon) has been set aside for physical therapy which is very therapeutic. BUT yesterday there were about 8 children over age 8/9 and their mothers. The mothers stood by the hot tub and chatted while the children created mayhem for the group who hobbled as they learned to walk and move in the lazy river area. One of the mothers addressed the elderly lady rudely demanding that she stop telling these loose and rude children who were impeding our way. Most of the elderly people left. It is a delight to have children 5 and younger sharing our space. Older disruptive children should be there with children of their own age but not disrupting the needed therapy for "older folk". read more

The pool is pretty decently sized, with a waterslide (that hasn't been open any of the times we've gone) and lap lanes, kiddy pool, and a hot tub. Our biggest issues have been that it's always packed, and that every time we've gone there have been people hanging around the parking lot scoping out what people have in their cars. It seems like it's a pretty big problem here, just because of the area I assume. Make sure to secure anything of any value at all and lock your car. read more

Hard to swim here regularly. Management schedules outside companies who reserve lap lanes without telling anyone. This makes it difficult for routine lap swimmers to get their laps in. If you do complain to management they laugh at you and talk about you at the desk. Regular swimmers get no respect at this pool. Sometimes the facility can be so dirty at times, even at the bottom on the pool. read more

The Aquatic Center is in decline. I've been using the facility for a few years. The last six months the fitness center has become filthy and unsanitary, It used to be a common sight to see employees vacuuming and cleaning the machines. ( There are quite a few users that do not clean equipment after use). Many patrons grab towels from the fitness center and take them to the pool shorting the gym. Myself and others are perturbed at the weight slamming going on by a certain group of lifters and trainers .Which may be the norm at Gold's gym. Bottom line , it's a shame to have a taxpayer, family orientated facility going down the tubes. read more

Last time, they closed the warm little kid pool an hour and a half before closing. We got there just as they were closing it up. The reason was "chemicals". The time before that, they closed it an hour before closing, for the same reason. So they need to work on that. Lifeguards used to be happy and say nice things to the kids, but now they pace around the pool like they expect a catastrophe. They definitely need to lighten up like they had been when they opened, up until a year or so ago. read more
