This was my personal experience;…read more Even if you have been a previous patient within Yale Medical for years but are a new patient with the Yale Orthopedic & Rehab, expect a long wait for an appointment, at least for Dr. Gibson anyway. Even as a prior patient of Doctor Gibson beyond three years of seeing him last you are considered a new patient. Do not be fooled by a non-existent waiting list either, every time I called there to ask if there's been a cancellation they added me to it, nor the false hope of calling daily for a possible cancelation opening as you will learn below. I've had knee pain now for several months and I scheduled an appointment with Doctor Gibson for March of 2023, acquired in November of 2022. I've made numerous calls to try and obtain an earlier appointment due to a cancellation, as directed by Yale staff when I called to schedule my original appointment. I was advised to call daily by several people that schedule appointments. On December 19, 2022, I was told there was a cancellation in January of 2023. When the receptionist learned I was a new patient, I was told "Oh sorry, you're not eligible for this appointment as a new patient." A complete contradiction to what I was advised back in November and most every time I called. How can an open appointment not be available to a patient, whether that patient is new or existing!? As a result of a job that required a ridiculous amount of pushing furniture, carrying my office with me everywhere and not having a desk caused more damage than necessary. When a second shot of cortisone didn't work, Dr. Halim suggested I wear a brace to protect my wrist. In 2017 I found that surgery was the next step. I am no stranger to going under so I was fine with that. An MRI revealed arthritis as well so I was glad to be rid of it. After surgery I was in a cast followed by therapy. All one place, the doctors and nurses are professional and do their best to get you in and out quickly. Dr. Halim also has another office where appointments may be easier. She is kind and I am pain free.

I'm also diabetic and while I see an endocrinologist regularly for that, she was very attentive to my diabetes and wants to stay updated on my endocrine appointments. As for my grandmother, when my grandma passed, it was Dr. Nwangwu's who listened to her symptoms and really investigated. She was able to help find the cause of her pain shortly before her passing. It was unexpected and the answers came as a result of the thorough labwork Nwangwu had ordered. I've never had to wait longer than 15 minutes (I've visited the office probably 6 or 7 times this year) and when I had trouble initially and misunderstanding with my insurance claim, I questioned my bills and they reviewed each claim with me. I was even offered a discount on my portion since I'd felt there had been some misunderstanding regarding my insurance/initial visit. She's great.

I came in struggling with migraines that ran my life, and since starting with him I've gotten my life back. He actually listens, explains everything clearly, and his treatment plan helped me tremendously. You can tell he genuinely cares about his patients. And Sue is the heart of that office. She's kind, organized, and somehow always manages to make you feel like you're the only patient they have. Getting appointments is easy, she's compassionate, and she keeps everything running smoothly. I owe Dr. Hasbani and Sue so much. Before I found Dr. Hasbani, migraines controlled my days. He's a terrific doctor -- brilliant, patient, and kind. He took me seriously and helped me tremendously. I finally feel like myself again. If you need a neurologist, don't even think twice. We don't blame the receptionists; they don't make the policies here. They also don't make new patient appointments here either, so they can't even reschedule us right now. I was given a slip of paper with a number to call to express my dissatisfaction and request a reschedule, which I did. What I couldn't do was speak with a supervisor. I also could not change preferences for when being notified about changes to appointments by doctors. But we don't use my chart in any regular way. We are not in it daily to see if a doctor changed an appointment. As I explained to the receptionist, my mother had been saying loudly in the background that she wanted to speak with a supervisor. Suddenly, three people in blue scrubs filed out to the desk in front of us, the ones who couldn't do anything. By the way, those receptionists sit in stools that are so low that if the patient were in a wheelchair, they'd never be able to see the person on the other side. Furthermore, if a patient starts having difficulty breathing or something in the waiting room, they'd never see that either. That's not putting patients first. So the blue scrubs kindly reimbursed our parking ticket and explained that the policy regarding notification preferences must be changed in My Chart, and it's not a policy they can change. Now, I can imagine that people might want to change their preferences multiple times a year, depending on what's going on, ER visits, hospitalizations, illnesses, vacations, relocations, and other things. It isn't helping the patient to make this so difficult; it doesn't serve the doctors or the doctor-patient relationship. It's the kind of thing that we'd want to check on and verify every time we show up at an appointment. We can't be expected to go into My Chart and monitor these toggles, wherever they are, whenever we have an appointment. This needs to be changed so that it can be updated and changed at the point of service for the patient's convenience, NOT the doctor's convenience, to go into My Chart and, with one click, derail a patient's entire day if you didn't happen to look into my chart. We want to be notified by phone and mail, not My Chart.

My appointment was for the Branford location. I arrived on time as I always do because punctuality…read morematters. I was taken right away to a room where to wait for the ARPN. I waited. And waited. And waited some more. An hour went by. One hour, mind you, as I sat alone waiting with my shirt off to be examined. Not one sould came into the room to check on me. Not a one. After waiting one hour, I had enough. I got dressed and told the front desk to reshedule me. They frantically looked for the ARPN in a bunch of different rooms and finally found him. Long story short, he had told the front desk that for one patient he needed a whole hour. They ignored that and booked this woman for a half hour and she happened to be there among other people who were waiting in other rooms. There is no excuse for double booking, over booking, or not paying attention to the required time need for the ARPN. No excuse. No lame explanations will cut it. The time of your patients matters. Punctuality matters.
