After visiting the Central Coast Zoo, we decided to walk over to the park located just outside, and it was the perfect follow-up activity. There's a large area to walk around, and you're even able to feed the ducks, which my daughter absolutely loved. She had so much fun on the jungle gyms, slides, and all the playground features available. If you're visiting the Central Coast Zoo, I highly recommend taking the kids to the park afterward to burn off some energy. You can easily make it a full day--visit the zoo, head to the park, feed the ducks, and just immerse yourself in nature. It was a beautiful day and hands down the perfect after-zoo activity. I love this place so much! This lake park in Atascadero is my go to spot for a mid day walk with a girlfriend or a nice morning or evening stroll with my husband and dogs! The full loop is a little over a mile, has wonderful views and lots of spots to stop and sit if you want to enjoy the lake! We were here this past weekend at sunset and it was absolutely magnificent - the colors of the sunset were reflecting onto the lake and it was breathtaking (next time I will have to get some pictures). They also do a wide variety of events like Concerts in the Park, Holiday Musical walk around the lake, the Atascadero Lake LakeFest and Wine Festival. This is a great place for a car show, walk around the lake, fishing, baseball game or picnic. It has a great BBQ area for larger parties, and a large playground for kids. The Zoo is also there as well as the Pavilion for events too. So glad this park is local to me and I visit regularly, especially when family is in town for holidays or special events (Like Cruise night in August). read more

Local and easy access, Atascadero Lake Park is a favorite for my family. We've spent many happy hours under the stars listening to free Saturday night summer concerts and have probably put in hundreds of miles walking the well maintained trail around the lake with our dog and friends. I've spotted eagles and hawks and herons along with various water fowl in and on the lake. Many turtles live there too and can be seen sunning themselves on fallen logs in the lake. My grandchildren have played on all the great play structures and picnics are always fun under the giant oaks. We love A town lake park. read more

There are many picnic tables throughout the park with individual BBQ grills, as well as large-group areas that can be rented for parties or events. They accept credit cards. The lake park is an excellent place for exercise. The pathway around the lake is just over one mile. Not only is this park really beautiful but there's always events going on here and it's right next to one of the coolest zoos Charles paddock zoo there's plenty of room to stroll around this park and even better bring your fishing poles for a little bit of light fishing all kinds of different fish are in this lake also I recommend going on the paddle boats for a little while for it it's very fun and relaxing read more

Unless you're checking into the Atascadero State Mental Hospital, there isn't much else to do in this town. However the Atascadero Lake Park (and the adjoining Zoo) is a good choice, especially for families. There's a nice playset and a walking path around the lake, if it's cool enough. Love this park. I also work at this park. Today we ran into a friend taking pictures and working on his car enjoying the beautiful weather and the osprey that visits yearly around this time. They are a few bald eagles as well but have not been around too frequently yet. read more

Sweet green after all the rain! We headed for a walk through the park after visiting the zoo next door. We took our almost three year old nephew to carouse around on the swings and generally burn off that burger he ate for lunch. We could keep our cars parked where they were for the zoo, and check out as much of the park as we wanted. Using the playground today, and saving a walk around the lake for our next visit! read more

This is a pretty beautiful park - the past three times I've been the water level in the lake has been pretty low, though, which is kinda sad. This is the ideal scene for the stroller striding mommies - A nice 1-mile loop around the lake, a big playground, lots of open green grass, picnic tables, a kid's care center, and the zoo. Little more you could ask for really! I, however, am not a stroller striding mommy, nor a mommy at all. I enjoy coming here with my mommy friend, though, and see the overall appeal. Don't know if I would drive up here otherwise all the way from SLO, but it's a great addition to the neighborhood. Check it out! read more

This park is just gorgeous. With a brand new playground area, this park is even better than before. Plenty of large, established trees provide shade for this large grassy area featuring many benches and BBQ pits. The lake adds a special touch as kids and adults alike delight in seeing the ducks swim on by. Having the option to rent a pedal boat or kayak is really cool, and is a fun thing to do with family for not a lot of money. Be sure to wear a hat and sunglasses as it can be hot in Atascadero. Saturday evenings during summer a live band comes and plays at the stage in the park, making this an all-around awesome park where you can really kick back, relax, and have a good time no matter what age you are. read more

You want to take the kids to the zoo? Cool. You want to take your lady friend for a walk around the lake? Right on. You want to throw a picnic and bbq it up. Do it. From lazy meandering and family trips, to cider festivals, and 4th of July fun, you can do just about anything here. There is a nice path around the lake. There is a great grass area, with tables, bbq stands, and plenty of shade. The event center is a decent size and is clean and bright. I've been here several times for a variety of events and never have had issues parking (though it can be crowded during busy events). It's a park, but it's a great place to relax too. This park is a beautiful little gem in Atascadero. Being mostly a city dweller, it was incredible to see such a large, amazing park tucked away in the more rural Atascadero. The front of the park is grassy, covered in beautiful trees, and has plenty of group sites for BBQs, picnics, and parties. During the warmer months I've attended a baby shower as well as a couple of picnics here in the past. Go further back and you'll find a gigantic playground perfect for younger kids to one side and a pier leading out to the lake on the other. The lake is a beautiful view, and it's possible to go out ont the pier and feed ducks if you bring food. It's also a good place to take a stroll. The park boasts other things to do, including a volleyball court and a place to play horseshoes. Seriously, I get bored easily and think I could find things in this park to keep me occupied all afternoon. I wish all of Atascadero were this fun and charming! read more

This is a nice little park to have a picnic, take your kids to play, or go for a short but picturesque walk. There's a fun play area with swings and play structures for toddlers and elementary age kids, plenty of picnic areas, including a bookable barbecue area, a cute gazebo, a stage for live concerts and lots of spacious grassy areas for just lazing around, as well as a zoo you can buy tickets to if you're so inclined. The lake, for which the park is named, has been pretty low the last couple years, so it's not quite as pretty as it once was. But the lake is filling back up a little and there's plenty of waterfowl if you're a birder. Unfortunately, if you're not a birder, the bird excrement on the water's edge can be a bit of a turn off. Nevertheless, the path around the lake is a comfortable stroll and great for getting a bit of fresh air. Additionally, there's tons of pokestops for the Pokémon Go players, and a couple of gyms in the vicinity. If you're a parent and Pokémon Go player, it's a great place to let your kids run free and stock up on items. All in all, the lake park makes for a fun, inexpensive outing for the whole family. read more

Gorgeous park! Although there's no water in the lake, this park is still very beautiful in its nature and well maintained by the city. My sister-in-law and I walk here often and everyone we pass by are very friendly. Love this park and will come here time and time again! It's a nice park - great for young children. Lots of swings, including toddler swings. The lake was dried up while we were here because of the drought... So sad. I bet the park is even more impressive when there is "really" a lake. I didn't dock stars for that though. The only negative - lots of creepy people. We saw about 4 men there solo... A couple were walking dogs (fine). And, one was sitting in the parking lot in his car, looking creepy, and watching us. And, another was walking with a cigarette in his hand, to a beat up truck - my son started saying "who is smoking?"... he must have smelt it, but didn't see where it was coming from, and I think the guy heard, and then he started staring our way, and glaring at us. Yikes... Off to the car we GO! ;) I would never, ever allow kids of any age to go to this park alone. read more

Still has the swingsets, the picnic tables, and the Pavilion, but where did the "lake" go? Sure we have some new cinderblocks with tree roots stuck to them out in the lake bed, easier access to the bird sanctuary island (sorry birds) and cracked, parched out ground, but the surface of the water is just pitiful. All in all it is still a nice place, with the Veteran's Wall and new parking on the Charles Paddock Zoo side. read more

We were so excited about this local tamale festival we drove all the way up from Riverside County. You can imagine our disappointment when we discovered that all of the tickets were sold out before they even started, the lines were out into the streets, and 30 minutes after the "festival" started, 4 vendors were sold out. We were told all vendors but two would be sold out before who were in line got to the front. We did get to watch all of the cozy city council people get priority and sit in front of us eating tho. Won't be coming back here again...if the planning is this bad, more years of practise won't even be able to improve it. read more
