    Plate 46

I have wanted to eat here for some time but I always seem to miss their stringent last-seating bewitching hour or they're full. It turned out to be a solid three/ three plus for atmosphere, price & value but some things lacking kept it from being a four or five. First I was very excited that the brot they brought out was semolina because it's my favorite and I've never seen it in Germany, but it turned out to be rock hard. The salad dressing lacked any real flavor and half of the meat on the patter was overcooked or reheated because it was very dry. Also my faux pas, but outside not a great idea here because it's such a busy road. On a good note the stuffed grape leaves were quite good & the one lamb chop on my main course plate was heavenly. I ate that first because I didn't want it to get cold. I wish I had saved it for last because the meat was steadily overlooked as I progressed through the meal. The meal was average and if there weren't so many other similar choices I'd be back, but this will probably be it for this establishment. Cheers.

Food straight from the Greek gods.

I visited it for the first time with my mother this evening. Upon arrival, we were promptly lead to a nice, fancy dinner table near the bricks and candlelights - not quite the casual setting we had imagined. It was one of the only table available this evening as all other tables were reserved. Equally as promptly, the waitress brought us the menu. The table was squeaky clean and the serviettes, as well as the forkes and knives were neatly aligned. The waitress, as well as the lady owner of the restaurant were super friendly and casual. Don't let the fancy interior fool you, the setting is pretty casual. I bought the Gyros Plate for 13,80€ whilst my mother selected the "Mezes yia ena" (mixed starters) for 9,80€ (I believe) because she didn't want a full plate. The Gyros Plate consisted of one souvlaki, gyros, a large portion of fries, tzatziki and salad, whilst my mother's dish had all kinds of starters, like authentic Greek octopus, Tiri Dodonis dolmadakia and tzatziki among them. The waitress also brought us two small glasses of ouzo and bread free of charge. The items were pricey, but the price was offset by the ridiculous amount the servings were in - the starters plate was really big, and one could basically get full with only that plate. I ended up eating some of those starters as well. They were extremely delicious. The souvlaki and gyros were straight from the grill and tasted absolutely delicious. The onions and tzatziki really complimented the flavour of the grilled goodies. The fries were just right - not too crispy, not too mushy. I wasn't convinced I could eat my entire plate, but the incredibly fresh salad helped me finish that delicious plate. Needless to say, my mum and I were both more than full in the end, the meal was really satisfying. All in all, it was a priceless experience; for the amount of food, the price is more than justifiable. I would recommend this place for anyone who is looking for authentic Greek delicacies at a reasonably affordable price.

Trying to find a Greek restaurant without seeing a rotating skewer of meat in the window is hard to come by. Aside from the on-the-go pita meal we are mostly aware of, what else does Greek have to offer? Step inside Gaststätte Athens, and be taken away to a different setting than your typical fast food gyro joint! Because I was hungry (like normal) and couldn't decide on what to get, why not opt for the appetizer mezze plate to start? That's exactly what we did! The 2 person mixed plate is big enough to share among 4 people to start. It was a nice sampler of all their cold apps, and all delicious! I could have eaten the whole plate as my meal, but there were more items to try, so I left some for the others :) Also had the grilled octopus.. OMG DELICIOUS! Yes, it was a huge tentacle that's lightly charred.. so if you are intimidated easily, or aren't open to ingredients in its' natural form, then I wouldn't suggest it. But for me, bring it on! This dish was simple, clean, and light! Grilled without being dry, overcooked, or rubbery. Perfect! But wait, there's more! The show isn't over yet... I also had the Greek plate, which was basically another sampler of their meats, served with salad and fries. Tasty yet again! Overall, I was really impressed with the food! One downside was that we came for lunch at 14:00, but we were told their kitchen closes at 14:30 even though their business hours say they don't closes until 15:00. Definitely a turn off since it wasn't mentioned to us until after we sat down and ordered drinks..

Tasty Greek food in a nice atmosphere. Meat is a highlight with a focus on flavours and cooked to perfection. Will definitely be back.

I arrived and didn't realize I was in the right spot as there was no host stand when you walk past a heavy velvet curtain. Rather you're greeted immediately with tables and people dining. It was awkward as I walked out and a local walked me back in and announced to everyone that I thought I was lost. It have everyone quite the entertainment. Despite that welcome the food was amazing and super intricate. The food descriptions are simple yet three plates arrive for one course. People surrounding me were being served at least 8 to 12 courses and I was so full after my six. More than enough! Total bill with two glasses of wine was 150 euros. I would come back because the menu is super creative and imaginative, the food is delicious and actually filling, and only locals dine here!
