I've been attending this college for 2 years and am finally about to graduate in May. It is solely because of this that I feel I can make an educated observation based upon my experience dealing with this school. Here's my honest opinion. Communication at all levels can be difficult. Front desk seems nonexistent unless you are physically in front of them. Staff is subpar except for a few enthusiastic instructors. I've had better experiences with online classes as the interaction is low & expectations are clear. The cosmetology department is terrible. I will not go into depth, just know you will be swindled and bamboozled out of your hard-earned money. The instructors for cosmetology are rude and stern. The Early Childhood Education program is decent but needs to be updated and expectations for each class need to be clearly stated. Overall, I am glad to be done with my degree here at this school. I plan to further my education elsewhere and would only recommend this school if you live nearby for convenience. If you have transportation to go somewhere else....GO! read more

You must physically go to this place if you need any information--nobody will ever answer the phone or respond to an email. The student fees are for ??? A 4 year college with student dining hall, full library, beautiful campus, and full gym is only $300 more. It seems like the teachers are just waiting for an opening at UGA, not really engaged with students. Disappointing that one teacher so far has pushed politics in class discussions in order to use peer pressure to suppress some viewpoints. read more

Maybe other programs are better but Stay away from the Esthetic program and Cosmetology one. Recent Instructors are only out for themselves and the brutality and harshness I witnessed from the program director is unreal. Feel the need to properly escalate anything? Forget about it. They all have each other's back despite the corrupt behavior. The building and lab is still back in 1960. Towels and sheets are a joke. They're nasty. They expect us to use on people's faces. They wash the same towels in with hair ones. They use the slowest washer and dryer possible so there are always towels left to mildew. The program instructors act like they are always out for each other and churning up the next drama with one another. Including which students they can bully for the week or day. every time I go there to attempt to have a question answered I get upset & want to cry. But you must go up there because no one will email you back or answer the phone. The guy in the financial aid office is a doofus who can't answer basic questions about anything. I didn't know how much my cosmetology kit would cost until I was allowed to purchase it from the bookstore, probably because the people who work there don't know how much it cost & don't care enough about potential students to find out. I still have no clue what's included in the kit or what I'm paying 1300 dollars for, but I'm sure I'm getting ripped off. They also don't let you use Pell Grant funds at the bookstore, a federal grant that is awarded to low income students to help pay for tuition and supplies they otherwise can not afford. When I asked about my HOPE grant application & when/how it's awarded doofus had no idea what I was talking about.."umm I don't know I guess you didn't get it." I did get it. It's like no one who works there knows what the hell is going on and none of the moving parts work together plus everyone I deal with when I go up there is just plain rude and give off an energy like they couldn't care less about you and your career goals & you can't get out of their office fast enough. (besides Mr. Mott he was actually very helpful & sincere.) I'm seriously considering un-enrolling & taking out $15,000 dollars of federal loans to go to GA Institute of Cosmetology because it would be less of a pain in the ass...& I learned more about their program from being there 30 minutes than in the months long back and forth with Athens Tech. read more

I have been coming to school here for a few years now, and I love it! The campus is not too big so you can get to wherever you need to go easily, and most of the students are pretty friendly. I really haven't had too much bad luck as far as teachers are concerned either, I have had a few bad apples, but other then that everything has been A-OK. read more
