I couldn't be more satisfied with my experience at Atherton Fine Art. My wife and I needed a frame for some artwork in our baby's room. Mark carefully examined the art and then picked out a beautiful silver frame that not only matched our carpet but also highlighted the colors of our painting. I've had large prints framed here twice and was pleased with the results both times. Mark helped me pick out mat and frame styles that worked with the specific pieces and fit my taste. For one of the pieces, he ordered special over-sized corner mounts that I did not even know existed, but were exactly what my project needed. The frame selection is large and the prices vary greatly. You can probably get cheaper work done at a place like Michael's, but if you care about what you are getting framed, better to come here. The results will be much nicer! read more

Owner Mark is the best framer I know of. Have been working with him for the last few decades (! ) as a young interior designer, and now occasionally personally. He has a fast, incredible eye for style, color, dimension, custom touches on his already beautiful selection of mats+frames. Execution is spot on gorgeous. I just had a painting restored through Atherton Fine Art. We also had it framed. The work done was really nothing short of incredible. The painting worked on was dark, dingy and damaged when it was brought in. I wasn't sure that the restoration was going to do much, honestly, but the detail apparent after the cleaning and touch ups made all the difference in the world. I'm a bit late in writing this review - but I wanted to be sure to give this business it's due. I had a painting restored at Atherton Fine Art, and I can't say enough about the service. The work was done as promised, on time, at the price estimated. To have the piece re-stretched, repaired, cleaned and restored at a fair price was a great find. The only drawback if I had to find one, was difficulty in reaching someone with a question - but I believe that is because of the size of the shop. Phone calls are quickly returned. Disappointed in every other framing store that I contacted about a minor frame repair, Mark not only happily took the job on at an extremely reasonable price but he exceeded my expectations by doing the work quickly, expertly and by doing more than had been asked. All way exceeds expectations. I had a piece of sumi-e style art and I needed custom size frame. The job was done faster than I expected, better than I expected, and the master showed knowlegable of ancient Japanese style, made a very good suggestion for the material, and then also did a few additional touches that fit the spirit of the artwork. The price is defintely expensive comparing to mass-production frames, but that applies to any custom hand-made framing. Based on what I researched, my price was quite modest, and the quality surprisingly high. This is true that you may have to wait quite a bit in line (if there are any customers that came in before you), because it's a small shop. In fact, even waiting is enjoyable. I went into Atherton Fine Art just before the holidays to inquire about restoration for a piece of art with a lot of sentimental value but not much else. I got honest feedback, which included a recommendation not to pursue restoration because it probably would not produce a significantly different result but still be costly. I appreciated the candid perspective and decided not to pursue the restoration. In spite of that, the folks at Atherton FA changed the existing backing (which was inappropriate for the maintence of the art) and resealed the frame, free of charge, so at least I would get more life out of the peice until I decided what to do next. As Menlo Park resident, I really appreciated them demonstrating why it is so important to have small businesses like this in our community. I look forward to my next visit for my next framing need which I expect to bring to Atherton Fine Art. read more
