I have used this place once. My advice: be careful and make sure they tell you exactly what you will be getting. They cut the mat for a pre-made frame that I had bought. For a few days I wondered why it looked so wrong and ugly on the wall. Measuring the mat I found a 3/4 inch difference between the top and bottom of the mat's width. I took it back and the other fellow(not Jim) agreed that the mat had been cut wrong and told me that they will fix it. He was very gracious. When I picked up the re-framed picture Jim was there and he got very offended when I said that the uneven frame looked ugly. He said that I had offended his sense of esthetics. And then he spoke to me rudely to show that he was upset. His behavior is unacceptable for a neighborhood business. I thought he knew that every body's sense of esthetics is different. When he originally cut the mat he should have asked me if I wanted the uneven cut. read more

Although MOST of the time the review average of a place is spot on. 5- Quality of work 5- Timeliness 5- Availability 5- Customer Service We had been collecting Phish Posters for every show me and the hunny-bear attend together this year. Before the pile got any higher, I decided to tackle it. We dropped off a three poster set and GAFC handled it. We negotiated frames and pricing (a ity-bity-tiny negotiating-- as I feel that quality and matching up the vision I had in my head are just as important. Shortly after, the nice friendly gentleman behind the counter swiped my card. As he promised, a few weeks later we received a phone call that the dirty work had been done and I was free to pick up our prizes, at my leisure. Filled with excitement and anticipation, I wanted to go right away... But the honeybear said "ah... Go next week, just relax this weekend." I contained myself until Monday morning-- and then guess where I was come Monday!? Just as easy as it was to drop em' off, was it to pick up our beloved, fantastically framed three poster set! A-OK indeed. That is what this store is, at least when it comes to simple framing orders, like - random example - a Johns Hopkins diploma or something of this nature. As a gift from the parents, I finally got mine framed, and the people here did a great job and waited patiently for several weeks until I got around to locating the store and picking up my order. They were totally cool about it, and I got to cruise the streets of downtown Palo Alto lugging a biggish framed diploma to the parking garage. In fact, I was doubling-up that afternoon and also got a hair cut at the great , affordable, and efficient Hotel President barber shop on University Ave, and I almost forgot the diploma there and had to return to pick it up! These guys do quality work. But they don't appear to have learned time management. If they tell you that your order will be ready in two weeks, simply laugh it off. They even have a sign posted behind the cash register which basically says "all bets are off as to when your framing will be finished, it could be up to 90 days". And you get to pay up front for the whole thing. So they will do a good job, but don't depend on their "estimate" of when the job will be finished if you are getting something framed for a gift and need a /real/ delivery date. read more

Several of my items were gifts and when I let them know when I needed them, they were very accommodating and managed my expectations so I didn't feel stressed. I had a wonderful Mayan zodiac piece that wasn't a simple framing job, and it turned out superbly! They have always been respectful of me and the things I've had framed. They are also very involved in the community arts scene -- they host an Open Studios site and let artists leave information. I needed to find a metal worker to make some custom bases for a client and they referred me to a guy who has been doing an excellent job. I happily recommend this shop. Can't recommend these guys enough, they were fantastic. Planning a wedding means juggling thousands of details and as brides we're busy, so anyone that can make our lives easier during this crazy time goes a long way. We had a ketubah for our big day (essentially a big piece of art, but also a Jewish marriage contract). I had attended and been in weddings where the ketubah was put on an easel and would slip or fall during the ceremony so I knew I had to prevent that. Also if you order it online it comes in a tube so it's going to be pretty curled up. I called these guys up and asked if they had any experience with ketubahs- and they sure did. They told me to bring it in and they would take care of everything. It's complicated because in Jewish ceremonies you need access to the ketubah before the public ceremony because it needs to be signed, so it can't be fully framed at one time. I came in with the ketubah and Jamil layed it out, quickly matching a color background. Then we started pairing possible frames from their hundreds of options. I described the look I was going for and he knew exactly what to show me. We quickly picked out the frame and that was it. My friend was able to swing by and grab the framed ketubah before the wedding, minus the glass. It looked gorgeous on the big day! We were easily able to sign it and display it. Since it was beautifully framed it wasn't going to move anywhere from the easel. After the wedding weekend we brought the ketubah back and left it with Jamil, he just needed 15 minutes to attach the glass. We walked across the street and did some shopping at the Russian store. By the time we were done Jamil had the ketubah all done and wrapped up. Couldn't have been any easier! This is the most important thing we'll ever hang on our wall and I completely trusted these guys, ending up with a beautiful product. read more

The wait was long, very expensive and the original order done incorrectly and when I went to pick up the frame on two separate occasions the store could not locate it.. they then called me up as they had filed it under the incorrect name.. and then refused to send it to me.
