On Thursday I went to this shop with my granddaughter who is the artist of the piece I needed framed. We arrived at the shop at 11:15. We waited several minutes and then a man came out of a back room to see what we wanted. We were told we had to have an appointment and that we could return at 5PM. I'm 90 years old and had driven from Saratoga to Los Altos so I said I would not return. There was no indication anywhere that an appointment was needed and driving the freeway is difficult, especially at rush hour. I would not recommend this business as they don't seem to value customers. read more

Don't bother with this store, their prices have skyrocketed, the lead times are rediculous. I had several pictures to frame and mat. Didn't get a quote for 7 days and the lead time was 45 days, it's now been 62 days and still waiting. Horrible customer service, they need to go. I was told by fellow Los Altans to "shop local" and support the local framer. With that spirit in mind, I aimed to bring two jobs to the store. I was shocked by how these two simple jobs metastasized into $500-$700 quotes. Shopping local does not mean being a chump. Don't let the early 1990s copy shop branding fool you into thinking this place is for all who pass by. It's exclusive to those who live on the Los Altos Hills side of Foothill. I can't think how else they stay in business. I'm sure they do incredibly fine work and when I buy my Rothko after I sell my second company, I will be sure to stop in. read more

Being a photographer I know how ridiculous the price of framing can be. I do a lot of my own so understand the labor that goes into framing is largely hidden. There is a lot of measuring, measuring again, precise cutting, fitting and the need to conserve expensive materials. The materials are expensive because they are created to be beautiful and archival. Both the matting and the glass come in many grades. Glass is tricky to cut, unforgiving and dangerous. I do not like to cut glass so I had need for glass during the summer for a project I was working on. I called everywhere and actually got the best estimates here. I had always figured Los Altos businesses would be on the high end. Even Michaels was more, Great American was so high it was laughable. Fast Frame were friendly and careful and on time. I submitted something to be framed and was told it would take three weeks. On the day it was due to be completed, they called and said they didn't have the frame I selected. This was a simple black frame, nothing complicated. When the owner knew I was going to take my job someplace else, she said she had frames in the store and could frame it that day. Frustrated, I decided to take the job to Michael's. Fast Frame quoted me $780. Michael's is now doing the same thing for $160. read more

I have had more than a half dozen paintings and prints framed at FastFrame with Fred and Jo Ellen. They are not cheap, but the quality of their work is truly exceptional. They are my go-to shop for paintings and other works of art that I really care about. They have a very large selection of frames and mats. Fred is expert at choosing the right mix of colors, sizes and textures for each unique artwork. If you have delicate piece, like a pastel painting, they will handle it with the greatest of care. They will spend a lot of time with you making sure that you are happy with the frame and final selection of frame, colors and mat treatment. Highly recommended. read more

Don't let the name throw you off... Fast Frame is not a quick-turn, high-volume discount frame store. It is a small, service-focused shop that does high quality work. I have had several "treasures" framed at Fast Frame, and have always been extremely pleased. I put treasures in quotes, since the items I had framed were very special and valuable to me, but were not expensive art. In spite of this, the owners of the shop treated me and my projects with the utmost care. Specifically, they listened to me (sounds obvious, but it is amazing how many places don't actually listen), helped me develop my ideas and presented options that I hadn't thought of, and the resulting framed final projects were better than I imagined. Although I would definitely trust Fast Frame with truly valuable art, some of the projects I have had framed include a favorite t-shirt from when my son was a toddler, a small/fragile ceramic wall hanging from a friend, and a favorite card. A beautiful frame can transform a treasured memento into art and protect it from being damaged. Fast Frame understood exactly what I was looking for, and helped me preserve these objects/memories in a way that will bring me joy for years. read more

I called them and they said I need to make an appointment so I did at the time they gave me, upon arriving I was four minutes early as I walked in she asked if I had an appointment in which I said 12:00 P.M. your early there was no one in the store but she made me wait, until 12:00 P.M. then she asked me what I needed and I started to show her what I had she said just a minute she's had to finish with the job that she was doing before I walked in, I was blown away as to how rudely she said it. Then she called an elderly gentleman to help me after asking me what I needed he tried to Pond me off on some other shop saying this was to hard for him to do. He was completely rude and when he quoted me a price the price was so high but I guess he did that on purpose so that I wouldn't have the work done but I would've never had it done anyway just because of the way he treated me. Let me start by saying I didn't actually get my picture framed here so I cannot speak to the quality of there work. I would imagine it is good given the professional vibe in the store. My 2 stars are really for their high prices. I needed to get a family portrait framed for a birthday a few days away and she told me she would need to "up charge" for the short time frame. That sounded reasonable...until I went to other places and found they would not need to "up charge" me. THE GOOD: High quality materials and workmanship. Pleasant village setting. THE BAD: Overbearing, tone-deaf design assistance & very high prices when compared to a nearby comparably skilled frame shop (I say this from unscientific but thoughtful research). *** A detailed explanation is below: I have now worked with Fastframe Los Altos on three different projects and will not be returning. Before writing this review, I also compared service style, workmanship and pricing with another privately owned neighborhood frame store and discovered that, indeed, Fastframe Los Altos deserves a low rating because far better personal service at a more reasonable price is available nearby. Custom framing is always an expensive investment, so skilled, responsible framing service is worth it to reduce risk to your precious items and artwork. I have no doubt that Fastframe provides expert framing workmanship. My problem is with design assistance and price. The only workmanship issue that has come up for me on a completed project with Fastframe Los Altos is in reference to an antique label I entrusted to them with information on the artwork I was to have framed. They emphatically promised to reattach the irreplaceable label on the completed framed artwork, but they lost the label. They didn't even remember that they were supposed to attach the label. I had to ask them about it, and there was no recourse because the label was never found. That was a huge disappointment but I wrote it off as isolated human error. I was finally inspired to write this detailed review after my third and most recent design experience. The salesperson I have worked with (one of the owners) is overbearing (aka bossy) with her vision for your custom frame when patience and helpfulness would be more effective. She prefers to make the choice for you even if you want to look around on your own as well. When I tried to walk the store to choose frame styles that looked good to me, she watched my every move and critiqued instead of allowing me freedom to think. The owner also brought me frame styles diametrically opposed to the style of my art and home decor. When I said, "oh, this isn't what we had in mind at all," the owner answered that despite what I had told her about style, color and decor, she thought this other style better complimented the artwork (think Baroque gold excess versus modern simplicity). When her suggestions were rejected, she seemed put off. She groused a bit and mumbled that she still thought her choice was better suited. I eventually had to ignore her reactions to facilitate the process since I was about to pay up to a thousand dollars for a frame that would be on my wall for the rest of my life. On the last two framing projects I've done with this business, I managed to get what I needed by choosing a style I spotted on my own while the owner's back was turned on the phone or with another customer. I literally rushed around and looked so by the time the owner turned her attention back to me, I had time to evaluate my choice. The owner is by no means intentionally unhelpful. Quite the opposite. However, because she hears only what she wants to hear, she worked against me rather than with me a great deal of the time. On the owner's behalf, I believe this is a matter of personal habit and disposition. But the owner also seems to have lost sight of how her reactions and exasperation might come across to a customer. Choosing a custom frame should be your fun creative experience with the guiding hand of a thoughtful salesperson. While the owner at Fastframe Los Altos is knowledgeable, she is also profoundly opinionated to the point where she can't nuance her service to fit circumstances. Selections I made were scoffed at or whisked away before I had time to compare. The owner got openly huffy if I wanted to peruse the frames myself rather than have her make choices and bring them to me. The creative process is hijacked unless you push back firmly. I found this to be uncomfortable, exhausting and it zapped the pleasure out of a process that ultimately cost hundreds of dollars+ for one framed piece. Ultimately, after three experiences with Fastframe in Los Altos, I have chosen to take all my framing business elsewhere. read more

I had a great experience in my first-ever visit to have something framed - in my case, a cherished watercolor that has recently passed to me after many decades (and memories) in the family. The owner made me feel right at home and was very enthusiastic. She really listened to and responded to my tastes, while also taking the lead to teach and show me where my taste was lacking :) I feel like I walked out with the absolute best frame I could have found anywhere. As others have noted their prices aren't cheap. As a first timer I can hardly judge value very well, but I can say that in this case, I got what I paid for. And that's pretty rare. read more

This place is awesome! They mounted a beveled mirror in a frame that I had spraypainted at home. The results were beautiful with little feet to keep it away from the wall and two hooks to mount this heavy piece with.The cost was amazingly low and the owner chatted with me while the work was being done while I waited.I will definitely go back again. read more

Just picked up a painting that I had cleaned and framed at Fastframe. I bought the painting on eBay for very little with the intention of getting it re framed. It was a nice painting, but the 1970's frame was unappealing, and the matte was the color of nicotine! The folks at Fastframe recommended just the PERFECT frame and matte, and charged a small fee to clean the painting itself a bit, and now I have a piece that looks to be worth hundreds of dollars. I will proudly display in my home. Great job, and nice folks, too. read more
